Excellent location. Sand dune park is a destination for professional athletes, seniors, and families. Exercise in the healthy beach air, or watch your children play in the dune.

Seen these beautiful flowers on the way to the beach.

The park itself is awesome. It's a great workout for kids and adults alike, however the attendant was extremely rude. It's my first time making a reservation and paying the $3 fee. I went up to the attendant and he acted extremely entitled. He laughed at me because I didn't know every single rule they had. It's such a shame because the park is so wonderful. It's obvious they (city or the closest residents) want to keep people who do not live in Manhattan beach away from the park.

Nice place to workout! Sand Dune Park is located in Manhattan Beach city. The sand hill requires each person to pay $1 before hand online. Too many neighbors complained about the number of people so this limits the number of visitors. The sand hill was challenging and worth a dollar. I haven't ran up it in years but I remember how brutal it was. Next to sand dune hill are stairs which people walk up and down. It's a nice alternative workout for a nice leg workout.

Went here for the first time this morning and I'm not gonna lie, I barely made it. It's a very VERY intense workout. It's way steeper than it looks like. It feels like you're climbing upwards toward hell but I'm happy I went. I'm expecting huge results on the scale tomorrow morning...yes it was that intense lol jk jk. Make sure you make your appointment online before you go because you have to sign in with your reservation number. It's a stupid system and though this was the first time I worked out here, it was my 3rd attempt. They really should reconsider this system. MAKE SURE YOU BRING SOCKS!!! DO NOT GO BAREFOOT!! I saw a lot of people go without shoes on so I took mine off. The sand was really hot and painful. Even if the heat wasn't a problem, the sand is not smooth. There's a bunch of sea shells and rocks in there so again, it can get painful. Overall, it's a great place. Great crowd. People will encourage you to push harder. I will be back!!!

Last week I came here on my lunch break, I was craving a stairs workout. Before I made it here I was a little discouraged at the other Yelpers complaining about making some kind of appointment, but I tried to brush that off and came by anyway. I found parking without a hassle and it was not metered. I quickly realized all the complaints were all about the sand dune that was being policed by two young park employees. I walked past them and found the glorious set of stairs. I climbed up quickly and all the the other stair workout enthusiasts were very cordial and we all happily climbed up and down. I made my way down so ecstatic about finding an easily accessible outdoor stair workout. I will be back Sand Dune park!! Thanks for the sore legs!!!!!

Most recently, it's been here for me when I come back from NYC and just want to get some shots up alone. Nothing as cathartic as grabbing the new basketball my Granny just got me, popping my airpods in, and doing the basketball workouts I used to do as a kid when hoop dreams were all I cared about. Something about reconnecting with that part of myself just eases the stresses that come with adulthood. I think that chubby insecure kid would be proud of who I am today, and that makes me smile. It's good to look back at your past and appreciate who you've become... But don't stare at it, or you'll end up staying there. Look back, smile, and keep pushing forward. It's not a destination park, but that's exactly why it works so well. It's clean, quiet, and perfect for a short break: sitting on a bench, reading, stretching, or letting kids run around the playground. What stands out is how peaceful it feels despite being so close to everything. No crowds, no noise -- just a relaxed, friendly vibe. Instead, I picked up a delicious sandwich, some deli sides, and drink from nearby Boccato's Groceries ( https://www.yelp.com/biz/boccatos-groceries-hermosa-beach ), lucked out in quickly finding a parking spot, and ate my lunch at a picnic table before reading my book for almost two hours. It was a beautiful day, and many other people were enjoying the near perfect weather and all the space the park has. There were at least three different kids' birthday parties going on, but they didn't interfere with one another, because Valley Park has multiple areas with picnic tables. It has a huge playground, a basketball court, and what seem like acres of grass to play on. There are also lots of trees for shade. As I said, I found parking almost right away, on Morningside Drive, but that meant a long walk for me, as the path from the western side of the park takes a rather circuitous route past the playground and the basketball court to the group of tables I wanted to sit at (the only ones completely unoccupied when I arrived). I could have taken a direct route through the grass, but that would have meant walking through a kids' soccer game and some of groups of kids playing. Most of the parking is along the two streets that form the northern boundary of the park, but I could see the street from where I was sitting, and those spots didn't open up often, and when they did, they were quickly taken. It got a bit windy as the afternoon passed, so I had to go chasing some napkins and the lid for one of my deli delectables at times, but it really is a nice, well maintained park. I didn't use the bathroom, but I did see quite a few moms taking their kids into them, so I'm assuming they couldn't have been that disgusting. Speaking of the bathrooms, it would be great if this Yelp listing could have a different, less puke-inducing cover photo. Please click on some other photos, people!

EXCELLENT little park!…read more we had Sofia's birthday picnic here. had to put down a $200 check deposit to secure 2 tables and a bbq pit. front and center location was where they put us. good shaded area for this warm and sunny day. the tables were slightly on the smaller side, well, for a family of filipinos and mexicans at least. the bbq was the traditional park type. off the ground and large metal grates. the area we reserved and the area around was immaculately clean. grass was trimmed nicely as well. the slopes that are typical with my little town were negligible where our spot was. further out on the fringes, you can notice them. the park has it's own private parking lot which makes it very convenient. there is a "kiddie" pool on site that was very popular on this sunny warm day. the deep end was 3ft and the low end was 2.5ft. awesome for the little ones. well, not mine since we werent' dressed for it. overall, we're looking forward to coming back to hang out here and have another picnic. maybe not as grand of a scale as a birthday party, but, a little bbq and some sun. also, we'd love to come back and have the kids check out the pool. we should get some use out of our $10 recreation card!

This summer we came the 2nd weekend and it was closed both Saturday and Sunday. When we called to ask why it was closed they said they didn't know. Today I called at 11:45 and they told me that the pool would be open at 12. When I got here we were told that they ran out of chlorine and were waiting for someone to bring some. Then at 1 we were told they would open at 1:30. Finally at 1:50 the pool opens and I'm told that my rec id had expired and I need to renew with 2 forms of id or pay. I said we've been waiting for almost 2 hours and we need to leave soon by the time I go home and get that it will be too late can you just let us in. The guy said uh no. Also if there is a birthday party the pool gets packed with kids and parents. Once the pool gets dirty they close the pool and tell you to come back next time usually within the last half hour. Also at the end of the season the lifeguards start to call out so if there are not enough lifeguards the pool can't open. Also they charged me $1 more than what is listed on the website. If you're coming from far away I wouldn't recommend. If you're local and have a rec ID it's worth taking a chance but expect to be disappointed
