I LOVE running here, and I see that many people love it as well. The setting couldn't be more perfect, you get a view of the ocean, a wonderful cross breeze and the course is as flat as it gets. I like that the Manhattan bike path is separate from the running path so that there is less congestion on days when its crowded (ie: the weekend). Also there are benches and water stops lining the strand so that if you don't have water with you, you can easily get some - which is convenient for runners. I would definitely recommend running here since you can run the length of Hermosa and Manhattan to train for distance running without getting bored from running in circles on a track or treadmill. I really enjoy this Bike Path. It's actually all part of a 26 mile long Bike Path that goes from Torrance Beach near Palos Verdes Peninsula all the way up to Pacific Palisades near Temescal Canyon. If you wanna have a nice long ride, this is it! read more

One of my favorites. I either ride this path from the Santa Monica Pier to Manhattan Beach or from Manhattan Beach to where the path eventually ends at Torrance Beach. It's always clean and smooth. Been doing this for about 12 years. Haven't had a negative experience yet. read more

If you're in so cal and want to hit the beach on a bike, manhattan beach is a must. The path is great for all level of cyclists. The path stretches from south redondo all the way past santa monica. This is some of the prettiest stretch of The Strand on which to take your bike. The multimillion dollar homes on the landside and gorgeous views of the Pacific Ocean and sunsets on the waterside, you really can't get better than this. Also, you can feel pretty safe biking this area by yourself. read more

An especially nice bike path......because it is separate from the walking path, as described in the previous review. I posted some photos. The beach bike paths make me nervous when they are shared with skaters, baby strollers, dogs, kids, and groups of people walking who hog the whole path. That's the case in Redondo & Hermosa and that's why I used to only ride before dawn, and only on weekdays. Manhattan is unique indeed in that the cyclists have their own space to breathe. The separate bike path is relatively uncrowded all the way through Manhattan Beach, along the rocky shoreline behind the El Segundo power plant, all along Dockweiler Beach, until you reach Playa del Rey. Then you cross the Marina Channel and it gets tricky again. And yeah the headwind can be fierce, causing the path to be sandy......the reason I use a mountain bike on this stretch. But despite these little drawbacks, this is as close to cycling paradise as I've ever experienced. read more

I like biking and the path I normally ride from is Redondo to Hermosa then to Manhattan then to Dockweiller then through to Venice then Santa Monica. What I really enjoy about this stretch is walkers and dog owners have their own path above us bikers. I hate when people and bikers collide on what happened's to be bike lanes. Walkers think they own the road on bike lanes. The stretch is normally free of walkers and the beach is normally clean. The bike path is normally swept and sand free but sometimes mother nature covers it with sand. All in all I enjoy my rides. I love white sands and the architecture of the homes on this stretch too. read more

You know how they say that when you meet "the one" you just know? Well, that's how I felt when I came here the other night and kicked the tires on this bike path for the very first time. I fell in LOVE. No question about it. I came here with a friend and parked near the Manhattan Beach pier. We biked all the way down to Redondo Beach and then back (11 miles). My only complaint is that if you take this all the way down to Redondo, you'll be forced to ride on the main streets for part of the way because the bike path sort of ends and then starts again a couple of times. But whateves, tempting faith by riding alongside drunks at 3am on a Saturday morning will get the adrenaline pumping and make you appreciate life even more. read more

I've biked on this path a few times now and I must say it is pretty nice to bike on a dedicated bike path without having to worry about constantly dodging foot traffic. The bike path is the white concrete path closer to the ocean and adjacent to the sand, marked with painted bicycles on the path. The walking path is just North of the bike path and the two paths are completely separated going Northbound from the Pier although going Southbound the two paths do intersect a bit. We usually start from Manhattan Beach Pier, there is 5 hour metered parking right near the pier. If you travel Northbound from Manhattan Beach Pier you will bike towards El Segundo and Dockweiler Beach. Going South from Manhattan Beach Pier you will bike through Hermosa and Redondo. The farthest I have gone on the path is 12 miles roundtrip starting at the MB Pier and travelling Northbound. When biking North you will ride against the wind, and it can get pretty breezy although the Southbound return makes for a pleasant reward. A few notables, take a bike light if riding after sunset. The one thing I do not like about this path are the piles of sand which accumulate on the path. You will find patches of sand that you have to traverse through, some thicker than others. If I was a bit more adventurous I would not mind, but I am always extra cautious because I don't want to get my tire stuck in the sand and crash. Other than that, it is a 5 star ride. read more

It was the best bike path I have experienced. The spectacular views of Manhattan beach, the strands of beautiful beach houses, and the people was so serene! I felt so relaxed & happy, and enjoyed every single moment of it. I wish New York City had a bike path like this too! Bike rentals were within close proximity to the bike path. Love this path it stretches so far. If you love the beach and beautiful scenery definitely pack your bike and ride. It stretches from the Westchester area to Hermosa and maybe further. Manhattan is middle ground. You can hop off your bike chill at the park on 27th and catch the views.... Take a break and hit the pump it up area on the path where you can find some muscles flexing; guys doing pull ups and ab work or you can chill and walk the path while checking out the beachfront multi million dollar homes some of them are phenomenal ..... Again if not on a bike you can definitely walk the path like I do plenty to see and get a little shopping in at some of the cute boutiques a little off the path. This path is perfection. I use it to complete my long runs for marathon training and it is perfect. I like that the bike lane is separate from the pedestrian lane. It's nice to not have to worry about getting hit by bikes and such. It also helps that this path is gorgeous! It's paved with concrete, there's beautiful homes, and people playing beach volleyball. There's a lot of people who come out to run, walk dogs, or just stroll along the path in the morning. It stretches pretty far but I haven't run the entire length yet. It's a nice path and one to try out. read more

Free riding with clear lanes and few obstructions! I went cycling for the first time in over fifteen years down in Redondo and Hermosa Beach. Although I had fun, I found myself struggling not to hit random people walking all over the place, skaters, dogs, skateboarders, pretty much everything or anyone you can think of was in the way trying to trip me up and cause an accident. This was not the case last weekend. This bike path is just that: a bike path. Sure, there is the occasional person jogging or speed walking, or there's a roller blader here and there, and others who don't heed the "bicycles only" signs, but it's relatively free of traffic and trip-ups. It was a beautiful day and a lovely ride. I picked up some hang gliding lesson information, and finally found The Counter's other location. Oh, and I love how there are markers on the ground every quarter mile or so allowing you to calculate how far you've traveled. I thought that was hella cool! It DID get a bit windy, and the wind seemed to always change directions so that it would blow DIRECTLY AGAINST me, thus making me work even harder (ha!), but it was still highly enjoyable and something that I want to do every weekend! read more

I gotten yelled out a few times for skating on this path. If there's something that needs to be said, please be kind and converse. I spoke to the lifeguard and he said this path is not for bicycles only, "it does not say only" the image is of a bike and an arrow to guide which direction. Different beaches have different rules. He said he knows about those bicyclist who take their sports too seriously and yell at people. If you are one of those, please don't yell at people, we are all trying to have a nice beach day. read more

I'm not sure if you remember but I don't know how to ride a bike. and people tend to laugh when i use my training wheels :-| Anywayz, i drag my ass up, grab my board and Minnie Mouse rollerblades, and we head to MB. I really like the south bay. Love Hermosa, Redondo, and Manhattan. It's never really crowded on weekday mornings. This used to be my go to date spot because the house are so beautiful and its so chill walking by the beach. Anywayz. fuck that sappy shit. here's the moral of the review. Kids don't try this at home. When you're tired of rollerblading/skateboarding whatever DO NOT. and i repeat DO NOT get the bright idea of tying your emo scarf to your friend's bike and getting a free ride. This ONLY works in movies and i suppose with more coordinated people. Anywhere else will result in unexpected brakage, entanglement, and scrapped elbows. and ruining someone's flower garden. and still shaking dirt off by the time you get to work. My husband and I were looking for a good bike path. While we normally head to the OC we decided to head north and landed in Manhattan Beach with our beach cruisers. We started early to be sure we were easily able To find parking. We arrived at around 8:30 am. The five hour parking right on the beach was already full so we parked up the street at the 10 hour max parking structure. The bike path is great. We headed south first towards Hermosa and Redondo. Great beach views of the ocean and beach front properties. Most of this path has separate bike and pedestrian paths which I love since I hate having to weave through crowds of people. After checking out Redondo pier we headed back north and rode past Manhattan beach pier. Nice ride as well but the views are not as pretty once you get to the water/power plant. We continued up the path to see people learning how to hang glide which was cool. We decided to turn around before getting to a Marina del Rey area as we were getting hungry. We enjoyed a nice lunch and then walked around town a bit. When we were heading out, around 3:30 the parking situation was crazy ! Cars following your every move hoping to find you are leaving. Definitely recommend coming early to avoid the parking issues. Just like all beach areas. We will definitely come back to enjoy these bike paths again! read more

I love Manhattan Beach. The bike path offers exceptionally beautiful views. To the west you have the breathtaking ocean. To the east you have breathtaking homes. The bike path is separate from the pedestrian path, which makes biking so much more enjoyable. It also makes walking/jogging so much more relaxing. The paths are on two different levels, not next to each other like in Santa Monica. Be prepared to hop off and walk your bike past the pier on crowded weekends. Living in South Bay is the best. read more

I've been looking forward to getting back out to this particular bike path for awhile now. The last time I was here we rented bikes from one of the local bike rentals Hermosa Beach Cyclery...(shameless plug for them, they were cool) . Tonight we decided to walk the path and try to cool down by taking in the ocean breeze, which was magnificent by the way. The perfect way to spend a summer night on a budget of zero to twenty dollars. Money for beverages in case we decided to stop and partake in a cocktail or the store. Hydration is important you know. No seriously, we both needed to get away and just take in the beauty of the ocean and the ambiance of everything going on was nice. It added to the experience to observe how everyone had their own way of enjoying the evening...as long as the people are happy, I'm happy it creates a positive atmosphere. Couples were sitting on their balconies with friends drinking wine and having conversation, while others were out walking their dogs or exercising. I embrace the scenery at the beach, because its a major change from the inner city living such as, the traffic congestion, buildings obstructing the view of everything, people on top of people, so the change of scenery is extremely welcomed and embraced.... We made plans to come back early in the morning around 7ish....when the ocean and everything is just waking up and then you can go and eat at Jaxx or the Good Stuff after a brisk morning walk or bike ride...Jaxx has good pancakes and the decor adds to the beach culture...I swear I wanted to drive off in a VW van from back in the days... read more

The bike path is a unique aspect of Manhattan Beach life. There is the "strand" for walking, then the "bike path" for riding. Paralleled to the strand, it provides a much better environment for riding along the beach. There are far few people, dogs, kids to contend with and the scenary is just as good. The winter months can be tricky as the wind will blow sand across, making the path a bit slippery. Too, there can be the non-locals that think it is there for running and walking ... This place was GREAT. We started off in Manhattan Beach rented a couple of bikes, and rode all the way to the end of the path in Torrance. It was great. We had an awesome time. Was a nice change from the bike path we are use to going to up in Santa Monica which is full of homeless, drug addicts, and rude people who get in your way! Not the case here. The Manhattan Beach Bike Path is great. People watching. House peering. Surf gazing. Wind fighting. Sand eating. Bike spinning. Body sweating. It's all available man. If you go early it is even more cool because you avoid the touristas and their kids. Look out for the strollers and the dog leashes. Very dangerous especially at dusk when the sun goes down and all the drunk people go out to watch the sun go down into the ocean. Although I admit it is pretty cool with all the smog making the sunset red. I also wanted to point out all of the volleyballers because it's not Hermosa or Redondo that has the volleyballers, it's Manhattan. That is where the kings are. Another problem is that the path is really smooth and your bike can really slip in the rain so you have to be aware or you will be on the ground with a broken arm or busted teeth just like that. But it's one of the gems of the SoCal beach scene. Give it a try. read more

Love it! There are always a lot of people enjoying this path, but not too many that it's too crowded. It's a fun thing to do on any day, and there are some places where you can rent a bike if you don't want to bring your own or don't have one. The only issue can be parking, so plan time for that and expect to pay the meter! Tickets are expensive and freely given! read more

Stopped at Marina del Rey shops to have a break. And use the bathrooms Help a lady that got hurt when small boy got in her way. Walked along the beach for couple miles as well Left about 3 30 and there was a 1/2 mile line waiting to get into the parking lot Glad we were somewhat early. Been here many timea for biking and jogging. I like how they have separate paths for bikers and joggers, sometimes joggers get on the biking trail. Ive done this as a jogger and didnt see a problem. But now i start biking and can see how annoying it is when joggers or walkers get in the lane and get in the way. Overall people are friendly and nice scenary. If you start the trail here, keep down south, the scenery is nice and have the nice mild beach vibe. If you keep up the trail northbound, it gets nice and secluded at first. U will see the power plants on your right, then the Dept of Water and Power. Pretty soon u will see some parking lot with trailers. I came here on a holiday (7/4) and non holiday time, regardless u see a lot of american flags :) love the vibe If u keep going north pass this campsite, the next campsite gets "ghetto". For some reason, people from this campsite love to take over bike lane walking super slow as if theu own the lanes. Loud, obnoxious and quote honestly, annoying. Once u pass the second camp site, beach gets nice and mellow again :) read more

As good as it gets, honestly, this trail is the reason I visit the Beach Cities. When you call North San Diego home, there's a lot of reasons to stay local. The quality of the water is cleaner and your exposure to southern hemi waves is better (@ Trestles) than most other places within driving distance. That being said, the vibe on this bike trail, the views, and the overall experience are second to none . One of my favorite path. I usally start from Venice all the way to Redondo Beach. Nice scenic route with a nice ocean breeze.

We started out in Marina del Rey at the Panera Bread on Lincoln, and headed south and picked up the Bike Path at Dockweiler. This is a really great ride! Plenty of room, few people other than riders, as there are many walkers and joggers on the seperate path that parallels the bike path in many stretches. Lots of places to pull off for the view or to grab a bite or a drink. The scenery is spectacular, both of the waves and the bikini clad (!) volleyball players. We rode to the Redondo Pier, headed back for some lunch in Redondo at the Cheesecake factory, and then rode back North into a very strong wind. 22 mile round trip, I highly recommend this ride to everyone, we had great fun! read more

I take this everyday to work. It's so much better than driving. It's a well maintained, clean pathway. The only thing I would have a gripe with is people walking in the middle of the road. It is a road - not a MUP (multi-use-path). Sometimes it can get a little crowded through the beach towns, but for the most part it's smooth sailing. read more

It's probable the safest bike path in LA. The view is cinematic. North past the peer offers hours of biking. If you take the bike path south, there is allot of pedestrian traffic. if you want to bike, go north. If you want to cruse, people watch, eat, or just stop some where fun go south. read more
