One of the most underrated beaches in So Cal. I love this beach whenever i can come down here for a bit and have fun. It is not bombarded by tourist and non locals. Well, i am a non local whenever we come down here lol.. There is little surfing and volleyball here. It is more of a family relaxed beach close by the airport. Some good places to eat and have drinks, but not very much. El Segundo Beach. So, if you want less tourist, Come to El Segundo Beach. They need some love too. read more

There are only two porta-potties and a portable sink right now. Parking is $13 for the day - came on a Sunday. Beach closes at 8pm. A pretty nice beach, always nice to be by the ocean. There is a nice biking path, plenty of space to set up on the sand. Only downside is the view of the power plants, not the nicest. But if you just face the ocean, its alright! read more

Surprisingly calm and clean beach! This could be on of those places thats a well kept secrete so naturally I'm here to spoil the fun. Came to the beach chill and frolic with the family while theres still some sunny days left in the year. Ive always driven by this beach and never gave it much thought. It's mostly great! Here are all the relevant points about El Segundo Beach: Not Crowded: Could be the time of year, but there was plenty of parking available when I showed up in the afternoon. Bathrooms: Clean enough and they all seem to be gender neutral. Plenty of stalls and there are outdoor showers to wash the sand off. Actual Beach: In this part of So. Cal you're always gonna find small deposits of tar in the sand. It's unavoidable. On the plus side its far enough away from LAX so you get a peaceful moment by the sea. There is also a bike path that goes all the way down to Manhattan Beach. Kind of a Pain in the Ass: Im not a fan of the paid parking system here. There are 2 machines that spit out receipts (one was broken) that go on your dashboard. All I wanna do is pay the flat or hourly fee, get my tickets and go. Here you have to enter your vehicles license plate number on to this key pad, then go through the process of paying. I can see this taking forever on a busy summer day. I feel it needs to be streamlined. Or maybe Im just impatient? Overall: Looking forward to another trip here. Posting this as a review of the waves. Never seen anything like it- mini tsunami-like creations upon an endless expanse of ocean. The surfers out there in December were getting their money's worth. Try to see how many Christmas decorations you can count on a beach-side run. So many surfboards are next to fake snowmen its hard to keep track. Welcome to California weather. I like how this beach is not over crowded. It's really nice and there is plenty of parking. They have trash cans everywhere which is nice and the parking lot is very close to the bathroom which is very convenient. They have security always driving around so that makes me feel safe. I like this beach because it is in a sort of no man's land between the mess of Venice Beach and the hype of the southern towns starting with Manhattan Beach. It's passed over mostly, but that's good because it leaves more space for us to enjoy solitude on the beach. Never mind the Scattergood Power Station behind you, it's still wonderful to look out over the seeming never-ending stretch of the ocean, bringing the faraway present to your feet. I love the walk down from El Segundo down the hill on Grand Avenue where you can catch some big skies. Sunsets are stunning here. The parking lot is a good place to catch rides. The lines of waves can be mesmerizing to watch when you aren't tripping over a lot of other people. Safety is a huge bonus here, I've never felt unsafe. This is a Los Angeles beach destination that people don't seem to care to know and sssshhhh that is okay! read more

Lots of metered parking, places to lock your bike, area to relieve your bladder, vending machine for water, outdoor "cafe" when an event is going on such as surfing heats. I've cycled past, through, & stopped here about 8 times now at 0600, 0730, 1730, & on a lazy afternoon @ 1300. The am and pm times tons of surfers dotting the waters & crossing the bike paths. In the AM, older guys probably with knee replacements (they stand by their cars, coffee in hand, squinting or reminincing) are watching the waves & surfers create poetry. Sand/ beach is clean. 2 homeless guys like to use these facilities & cook with their hotpot & collect things to put on their bikes. I've crossed their paths early in am and at 8pm or so. They seem to be in good spirits & are chatty with eachother. Who wouldn't be smiling living on the beachfront? read more

I came to El Segundo Beach for the first time and it was very nice. Manhattan Beach Pier has been my favorite place for sunset-being very accessible from LAX with restaurant areas nearby. El Segundo Beach is not a pier -sand beach. I like the fact that this place is somewhat more quiet and can see the sunset right from my car parked in a parking lot. Great place to visit if I have my car to get here. read more

It was so quiet here, save for the planes taking off, but after awhile you barely notice them. I had never been to this beach before and was on my way to Manhattan when I decided to pull into the parking lot and I'm so glad that I did. Parking is easy, and reasonable $$ considering. The bathrooms are clean-ish, after all it is the beach. Lifeguards were on duty which was nice and the surf (at least while I was there) was pretty calm. Perfect for Kiddos. read more

This beach is really underrated. It's not as crowded as nearby Manhattan or Venice beaches which is a bonus and the crowd is far more diverse. Nice family atmosphere with groups dotted across the beach but never insane. Friendly helpful lifeguards. There's always parking at Bluffs parking lot and restrooms / changing rooms too which is particularly great if you're pregnant or with kids. Unlike Venice and co. there are a lack of places to eat so be sure to check out El Segundo Beach Cafe for delicious take out (order online and pick up) or dine in on the outdoor balcony overlooking the beach. read more

Well I've been procrastinating writing a review on this beach, I'm practically here every week! It's just a beach, with sand, ocean, some surfers (especially in the wee early morning hours), lots of bikes & peds going through - especially the very narrow portion alongside Chevron, you'll have to watch out & look behind you as well in front because there's always bikes going through, most of them of nice and warn you, there are some inexperienced or careless that fly by and the same goes for pedestrians, you can't walk alongside each other, there's no room for passing! But some people do anyways and you'll get the bikers who'll find their spot and disrupt flow of traffic by stopping w/out looking and you'll have to fend for yourself trying to get past them & get through traffic (not joking, if you've done it before on the busy weekends, you know what I'm referring to). But aside those little quirks, it's worth it! You get to Porto Beach and the Strand much faster. Sometimes you'll see Sea Lions, unfortunately for me, I've only seen the dead ones :( But they are there, hopefully I'll catch some soon. Nice little area of rocks along the way of bike path to sit on and absorb, I think some people fish there too. Bathrooms are open after Memorial weekend till end of summer and parking lot - price also goes up for summer time. Lifeguard on duty too. There's nothing special, no food or drink places within it or walking distance, (unless you live there). It's empty and boring. Why would you want to come anyways Don't come here, you won't like it.......... Shhhhhhh! That's all I'm going to say. (wink) read more

Celebrated all the August birthdays here at this beach last weekend and I actually enjoyed myself. I am not a fan of the sun but this day it wasn't as hot. We all know the farther south you go from Venice Beach/Santa Monica the better the water is. That's the case with this beach. Although there were a lot of people here, it's definitely less touristy than the two mentioned above which means more relaxation for everyone. I liked this beach very much. I even liked the tan I got and y'all can tell I don't really need it. I think I'll come back to surf the waves as they are much larger south of the Marina. Who wants in? read more

If you have been driving down Vista Del Mar from Marina Del Rey or Venice you have passed El Segundo Beach. El Segundo Beach is small path of Beach run by the City not the State. El Segundo Beach is right after you pass DocWeiler State Beach and before you make it El Porto which is actually Manhattan Beach. There is a small little out cove you can turn into and go down a small hill to find a small parking lot that only charges $2.00 a day. The area is great for a picnic or surfing when you are trying to avoid the crowds. A sick left forms off of the Jetty shared with Hammerland (El Porto/Manhattan). Come and enjoy what El Segundo has to offer and leave the Beach cleaner than when you arrived. Be the Good=) read more

I've never been to this beach before and the reason for going is to pay tribute to my girlfriend's mother who passed. She let go of balloons for her mom's birthday and it was really nice. Thee only issue I had was the BIG CLUMP OF TAR that I stepped in. I thought it was something else but it was tar. Possibly from ships from the sea that we noticed. I could NOT get it off from underneath my foot for the life of me. I had to scrub it with wipes and hand sanitizer. read more

Lived locally almost 40 years and had no idea this beach was public. There is a very small sign on NorthBound Vista del Mar at Grand proclaiing "El Segundo Beach". I could not believe how uncrowded, clean, and open this place is in the middle of summer! Parking is very ample but you have to pay $8 for the privilege, unless you take a chance when someone gives you their ticket for free, ummmm have not ventured that far as of yet. The view is spectacular given unobstructed panorama, the folks are pretty chill with no loud music, screaming kids, frisbee head butts or sand kicked in your face. Sorry but you won't be hitting up too many chicas here like the bountiful busy beaches further south in Manhattan, Hermosa or Redondo. Hence, we have a high recommend for getting that pop-up beach tent, chill some bubbly, pack a few snacks and head down to the delightful offerings of El Segundo. Ignore the Power, Hyperion and Refinery plants right behind you, the view is to the WEST! Enjoy read more

This used to be my favorite beach. Came here every other weekend with my toddler and paid $2 for parking. Now it's $13 until 6 PM, then $3 afterwards on the weekends. This beach on Father's Day had less than 10 cars in it. I wonder if jacking up the parking rate had anything to do with it? We didn't have a beach day after we saw the price :\ read more

shhhh... this is a little secret... been living in ES for over 2 yrs... biked through here between MDR and RB and never knew what this spot was. glad to know now! the stroll from ES down to the beach is not too hard. the decline slope on Grand makes it pretty easy. the return, however, now that's a different beast. but, you can't have your cake and eat it too. the span of the beach is pretty much the span of Hyperion/Chevron. almost north up to Imperial Hwy and Dockweiler to just south down to Rosecrans and El Porto. there is a small rock pier that juts out. parking is available in a small lot with differing rates depending on the season. plan on summer being around $8 all day. similar to Dockweiler. there are facilities available as well, just south of the parking lot. no other magical amenities here. no bars or an annual beer chugging, marathon competition a la Iron Man. there are volleyball posts available. bring your own nets just in case. beach is clean and pretty well kept. there is also a lifeguard post. overall, a convenient and great local option to heading to MB or HB or RB during the summers. just hope we keep our little secret. :) read more

Great beach area that seems relatively unknown versus the nearby Manhattan Beach/Hermosa Beach areas. Good parking at both El Segundo or up the hill near Dockweiller. Really cool, beautiful mix of multicultural LA area people hear vs the OC area. Really great relaxing welcoming vibe. Will for sure be back for more time when it gets warmer and the covid situation hopefully ends soon. Parking is $13 for all day on the weekends. read more

Despite living for a while right by this, I didn't know till recently that it was an official beach! I think I thought that because there's not really an entrance or a proper sign! Or parking for that matter. I consider more an extension of Dockweiler, and if you want to got to it, it's best to park there. It is a nice beach area if you can access it though. read more

For parking, you have three options. 1) free - park by downtown el Segundo and walk to the beach 2) coin operated parking - there's only about 6 spaces with metered parking. $0.25 for 10 mins. Max of 90 mins. I made the mistake of putting more coins in and the machine just swallowed my money. Only takes coins. No cards. 3) pay for the day at the pay machine - w/d before 9am $3 / 9am-4pm $6 / 4pm onwards $3 or w/e I think it's $1 or $2 more. read more

If LA beaches were boxers, El Segundo beach would be the scrappy underdog who doesn't get a lot of press but can make the crowd go wild. It's never too crowded, plenty of parking, clean bathrooms and right off the bike path. They have a few volleyball nets too if that's your thing, or just bring a book and get cozy. One big downside and two minor ones: - The bathrooms are closed from labor day until memorial day. Sort of a downer if you want to spend a day at the beach on the off-season, especially if you have kids. - It's not a dog-friendly beach, but the beach patrol seems to leave you alone if your pup is well-behaved. - I think people avoid this beach because it's close to the airport, the refinery and the wastewater treatment plant. But.. do you come to the beach to stare at the land behind you or the ocean ahead? I'll take a mostly empty beach with some industrial architecture in the background over a crowded beach with cute houses any day. And I've never noticed a smell. read more

I am definitely a fan of this section of the beach due to how secluded it is. I do wish they had a slightly larger walking section along the wall of Chevron next to the bike path so I don't feel like i'm getting in the way of the bikes but it's a nice stretch. I also feel like with the rocks there blocking the bike path and the rough waves, no one really uses this section and the beach area could be used for a dog beach. This is a great beach, and it was empty when I arrived here on a Wednesday afternoon. The smokestacks definitely deter people from visiting, however, it is a great place to watch the sunset. read more

First of all it's a quiet beach so that alone would make it a 5 star spot for pretty much everything. There are beach volleyball nets, bike racks, public restrooms and well....plenty of parking. The minuses are that it doesn't appear they are combing the sand very well as I got a small cut from a torn can. However the main reason for the 3 star penalty is the PRICE GOUGE on parking. I just went down for a 30 minute deep sand run and the only options for MOST OF THE LOT is prepay at the machine and post the receipt in your window. However, it is seriously expensive and unfair that you don't get the option to pay for 1/2 hour or an hour? The only option after 9 AM IS TO PAY 8 DOLLARS? I don't think so. A lot of locals utilize this beach and there was very little parking enforcement before and now that they built the new restrooms they want to pass the cost on to locals in a way that feels very unfair. If you ask me, parking enforcement is missing the boat because if they are obviously just trying to get more money than they're worth from people then they might as well give people the opportunity to overextend their 1 hour payment and ticket them then but give people the option. Let's stop this adversarial relationship with parking / enforcement and people who live here and be fair! Yes, there are metered spots. 4 of about 75 other spots in the lot and they have a 90 minute limit plus one was jammed today. El Porto is closeby with all metered spots but they fill up so get there early. read more

Beach itself is clean but it's located across the street from a vast water plant. That, combined with the airplanes flying over took away from the idyllic beach setting I was hoping for. Very industrial type of vibe. Only saw 1 restaurant which was in same building as public bathrooms. read more

Great beach to take a stroll. Not very crowded at all. I frequently drive on the Vista del Mar which is right along this beach and decided to stop and enjoy an afternoon walk. Lots of parking meters around and seems pretty safe as they have lifeguards on duty. read more

Beach is small and lifeguards don't really do too much as far as enforcing any of the rules. They mostly stood up in their one tower, which looked to have about three staff and didn't venture out once except to walk twenty feet to tell some kids not to play too close to the rocks then back into their tower to chat with each other. People were smoking weed and drinking alcohol and because there weren't any patrols, nothing was ever said or done about it. The beach itself is pretty dirty and no one seemed to pick up after themselves which bugged me a ton. I live here and it was very clear that most of the visitors didn't care at all to keep it a clean beach. Super sad really. In the end, I blame the lack of authority there. Lots of dogs are overlooked and we saw a fight amongst them almost break out. Kinda a little scary, especially when afraid of dogs altogether. I expect all the good yelps were from those that were allowed to do what ever they wanted. Hope this changes soon. read more
