Dockweiler is such a great spot, especially because of the fire pits! I definitely recommend going during the week because you have a much better chance of getting a fire pit without having to wait. The beach itself is also pretty clean and well kept. Overall, it's a really nice place to spend the day and stay for a bonfire!

My family and I visited Dockweiler Beach in May and had a wonderful time. We paid $9 for parking since we went on a weekday, which felt reasonable considering we were able to park right by the beach. There were plenty of fire pits available, and we were able to cook our meat patties and enjoy a relaxed meal together. The views were beautiful, and it was a great spot for us to create memories, eat, and spending time by the water. The only downside was that some of the nearby stores were closed. We had hoped to rent umbrellas because it was pretty sunny when we arrived. The weather was still enjoyable overall, though it did get windy and chilly once the sun started going down. The water was also too cold for us to get in during our visit but to be fair we had visited in May. Still, this was a great experience. Between the beach access, fire pits, views, and convenient parking, we would definitely come back, especially during the summer.

We've been coming to Dockweiler beach forever. Since all of our 5 kids were little. Its are go-to beach. So many good times here! Most definitely a great beach with good vibes!

All day for $8 quid. It's a bargain.

DSB is one of many state beaches in California that occupies nearly 4 miles of shoreline. It is located in Playa Del Rey near LAX. The beach has off white with fine granular sand. Moreover, it is popular amongst local residence, bikers, and tourist. They have public bathroom, showers, lifeguards, volleyball courts parking lot and cafe. I am glad I got to visit this lovely beach for the very first time. I was in this beach to compete in a volleyball tournament. And I was humbled by my opponent! lol. Overall, I had a good time at Dockweiller beach. I recommend you visit.

Dockweiler State Beach may be my new favorite beach! Parking right now is $9 and when I went on Saturday around 930am, it was plentiful. Tons of parking and tons of spots to set up at the beach. A lot of the firepits were still open at that hour, but by Noon they were all taken. Restrooms were better here than at Venice and not a far walk. I actually liked how short of a walk it was from the parking to good beach spots. Only a few pieces of trash on the beach and garbage cans abound to assist in curbing litering. Planes from LAX fly overhead so I could see that being annoying if you want total silence. However I saw this as a fun positive, looking at all the activity in the sky. Just a gorgeous beach that I'm a fan of and will be back to!

Dockweiler Beach is home to famous fire pits, long streches of sand perfect for walking/jogging, a bike path, a continual parade of airplanes taking off overhead, a homeless community camping in the dunes, and the world's smallest butterfly which happens to be federally endangered. It's the butterfly (the El Segundo Blue) that brought me here but I have to admit I enjoyed the beach as well. As LA County goes, this beach was pretty clean with a minimum of trash. The fire pits seemed well maintained. The restrooms definitely needed some attention, however. But there were volleyball players, first responders being trained on the beach, and fresh ocean breezes. Parking varies but was $13/day on the weekend. This would be a great beach for, paradoxically, both aviation enthusiasts and lepidopterists and anyone who just wants to hang out at the beach.

Perfect spot .. to relax ..

Dockweiler Beach is Just a relaxing place to stop and feel the sea breeze on your face .. smell the ocean air .. listen to the waves crashing .. and maybe even read a book. Sometimes ... one must schedule time with themselves ... to do absolutely nothing. Cheers !!

Dockweiler Beach is excellent. They have fire pits and lots of room. The Bike Path is outstanding. If you're in the area, this is directly in front of LAX airport. Check it out !

A great place to relax, enjoy the sun, read a book, or watch the sunset. Super clean beach!

The beach here is really nice & clean. They have active staff here checking on everyone, making sure it stays clean, & making sure it's safe. The fire pits are a little hard to come by if you're there a little later but overall it's a nice place to setup your day & relax

So last Saturday, I went to the beach to go swimming. Why? Because I always going swimming in the water especially in the summer. It was cloudy but I got in the water and enjoyed getting whopped by the waves, lol. I love being shirtless in the water. I have fun, I spent 2 hours in the water. So when it came time to leave, I stayed away from the bathrooms. They're gross anyway. That's my two cents. P.S,: I peed in the ocean and became one with the Earth. I was so happy that I peed in the water because I love to let out my urine into the sea, all I had to do was relax and there you go. Before you go mad at me, I'd rather pee in the water than waste my time in the toilets or have a full bladder on the way home. Better in the water than sorry. I'd encourage you to pee in the water rather than leave your comfort zone. Good day, loves :3

Gorgeous California fall afternoon at Dockweiler State Beach!

    Fire pits for grilling

Dockworker State Beach is one of the closest beaches to the San Fernando Valley, and with our beautiful California weather, you can enjoy the beach almost year-round. I recently visited with my family to grill hot dogs and make s'mores, and it was such a great time. It's one of the few beaches in the area that offers fire pits, so be sure to get there early to secure a spot. The beach itself is generally very clean, and there are lifeguards stationed along the shore to ensure everyone stays safe. There's also a parking lot with rates that vary throughout the year, usually ranging from $10 to $25, depending on the season.

Ask the Community - Dockweiler State Beach

Might be a silly question but are there grills or does anyone know of a beach with grills?

You aren't going to be so lucky. Most if not all beaches are just pits. You want a grill, you bring it. Cabrillo Beach is more like a park which does have grills but not fire pits.

    Is it dog friendly?

All animals are prohibited on the beach.

How late can we stay at the fire pits?

Depends on the season. I think it is 11pm or midnight right now.

Is Dockweiler crowded in January? I'm trying to figure out how early to get there on a Saturday in January for a fire pit.

It depends on the weather but generally in January it will not be crowded where you can't get a space.

    Are the pits available?

Yes. Weekends are crowded as can be so claim your spot early

Has anyone been recently? Website says some fire pits have been returned for use?

Yes called the provided number today and was advised the pits are out and available.

Are the fire pits open for public use?

As of 3/31/21 they were not open for public use yet. They were all stacked aside. I'm assuming this is a covid thing.

    Are dogs allowed?

I have not seen dogs there as I'm an dog owner last time I was told no most definitely not on beach.

    Are fire pits open now?

I'll be honest i seen several folks using fire pits last time I was there but I did not ask at the entrance

Are the fire pits currently there?

    No. They've been removed.

How many fire pits are there?

Any tips on how to score a pit 4th of July? I heard locals camp over night? What time/day should we get there?

that is incorrect unless you have an RV it is closed after 10 pm, also if your local you wouldnt need to camp overnight. if you want a pit you better come early or with an RV

What's the protocol for having a bonfire and your car parked in the parking lot after 10? Will you get a ticket if your car is parked?

yes, you will get cited and then EVERYONE gets booted from the beach at 10. you must have an RV to park overnight or pay

What time should we get there if we want a pit on a Saturday in the summer?

Before 8 am! The earlier the better!

Can I take my own fire pit ? We are planning a family beach day in the middle of summer and just to be on the safe side plan on taking our own pit don't want to be left without our smoors.

You can only use the pits that are built into the beach. If you are observed using any other open flame I've seen them ask people to extinguish the fire.

Is there still street parking at Dockweiler beach?

Nope!!! All red zones now. There is a SMALL amount still left at the very north end of the road, close to the little village area. But other than that damn near no street parking.

Are we allowed to pitch up a tent and camp there overnight?

No Camping. They do rent RV spaces with at least 24 hour notice.

I'm planning a bigger party on the beach - does anyone have any ideas on help with set up (pop up, games )food and trawling drinks onto the beach?

You have have to try and park close enough to unload your car to walk your coolers, pop up tents, food etc preferably using beach carts.

Are there areas where dogs are allowed?

Dogs are not allowed on Los Angeles County Beaches. Lifeguards won't allow them on the sand unless they're a service dog. Your best bed would be to keep your pet on the bike trail.

Whats a good time to go and get a pit on a Sunday in July?

ASAP. First 300 people in $5 parking and then it goes up. By mid afternoon you may be kinda outta luck

We got here around 3pm and immediately lucked out and got parking at this 3 hour parking lot yay!!! We got some water and snacks from the Manhattan pizza spot and then walked and found a cute beach spot. The beach was packed with swimmers, beach volleyball, families, surfers, cyclists, roller bladers. Just a great time . We chilled and read and ha le a great time . It was so relaxing and and fun watching everyone have a beautiful afternoon. We ended up dipping our feet in the water before we left and it was not cold ! Highly recommend it and will be back .

Manhattan Beach, California, USA is definitely not a place I will be coming back to anytime soon…read moreafter this experience. I came in driving a Tesla and parked with my wheels not pointed toward the curb, which I fully understand was my mistake. I expected a simple ticket and moved on. Instead, they doubled down and issued another ticket shortly after for not having a front license plate. The timing of everything felt excessive and honestly frustrating, especially because it all happened within about 10 minutes of parking. What made it even more questionable was that as I was walking back, I noticed multiple other cars around me with the exact same issues. Tesla after Tesla, residents included, many without front license plates and similar small violations. That is what made the whole situation feel less like consistent enforcement and more like something was being selectively enforced or overly targeted in that moment. I cannot say for sure what the intention was, but the experience definitely did not feel balanced or fair. By the time I left, the whole situation had completely soured the visit. Instead of enjoying being in Manhattan Beach, I spent my time dealing with frustration and trying to get out of there. I understand rules are rules, but how they are enforced matters, and this felt unnecessarily aggressive. Manhattan Beach should do better in how it handles visitors and parking enforcement, because moments like this really shape how people feel about returning.
