Welcome to Del Rey Lagoon. #PlayaDelRey

Del Rey Lagoon is a 14-acre municipality park in the beach neighborhood of Playa Del Rey. This park features lighted baseball fields, basketball courts, and playground. There is a parking lot availability for visitors. This park is a few steps away from the beach and lagoon. It's clean, organized and no homeless folks. I came here after walking at the beach. Overall, it's a good family friendly park.

Nice easy walk along lagoon- leashed dogs allowed. No nearby public restrooms. Was lucky enough to find free street parking.

*** A hidden lil gem that I really shouldn't write about.*** But wth, it's public, so I will let you yelpers in on a lil secret ... a park tucked away in Playa del Rey that surrounds a lagoon. It is worthy of royalty, hence the name, Del Rey (King) Lagoon. When I first moved to Playa del Rey 2002, this sealed the deal. I gotta apt w/ an ocean view along the seaway from the marina. So not only could I watch sailboats go out to sea and the UCLA Row Team workout, I could also cruise down the street to this lil park and chill w/ my boy. From 1 to 5yo, my kid had no idea how well he had it ... there is plenty of wildlife from the wetlands here (seagulls, cranes, ducks, geese) and people walking their dog. After seeing snow in Midwest in Apr ... he understands now. ;) Yesterday I went for a run around this park, over the Pacific St bridge, around the UCLA Row station, around to Fiji, down to Admiralty Way, thru the boatyards, to Ritz-Carlton, then back to drink water from the fountain at the Marina Welcome Ctr. (God, I love that run.) Anyways, I was happily surprised to find that they have completely revamped the playground. The old one was demolished, and the new one is slick. *** Improving upon perfection ... I love you, Playa! ***

This is a great place to take Joey for a walk. It's kind of unexpected, right at the ocean in Playa Del Rey. The dictionary says that a "lagoon" is "...A shallow body of water, especially one separated from a sea by sandbars or coral reefs." That pretty much gets it. The ocean is right over a sandbank from the lagoon. It's a small lake thingy in a residential neighborhood. There were lots of dogs and people running. There' s a kiddie playground with a really bouncy floor. Walked around the lagoon, Joey sniffed the dogs, went home.

The small Del Rey Lagoon and matching park in Playa del Rey is just a block from the beach. It's an ok park with a small free parking lot (that appears to always be packed), but the lagoon itself looks kind of nasty with a shallow layer of water and green scum on top. The Del Rey Lagoon is a miniature remnant of a small man-made saltwater lake that spanned all the way to Venice from the 1870s to 1938 when Ballona Creek was made into a channel. It shrunk even more with the creation of Marina del Rey's main channel in the 1960s. In its hey day (around 1904), the Del Rey Lagoon was a key attraction of the booming local beach resort Hotel Playa Del Rey. It later became the site of Playa del Rey's biggest tragedy caused by an arson fire that killed 22 mentally handicapped girls in 1924. These days, the tiny lagoon is home to dozens of small waterfowl, geese, and ducks. It's reported there are even fish in it, but I'm not sure about that. The small playground and big grassy field offer plenty of room for families to play. There are a few free picnic tables. The nearby baseball field and parking lot also attract plenty of activity. If you are looking for a peaceful park to relax in Playa del Rey, the Del Rey Lagoon is the spot to go.

Del Rey Lagoon is a lovely little place. It's just as beautiful as Venice, but the sand is cleaner-the locals are more casual- and there are fewer crowds. What a lovely place to take a stroll. You can walk towards the shops in Playa Del Rey (Playa Provisions, Tanner's Coffee, Senior G's) or head to the beach and walk along the marina path.

Super scenic views. Great park. Love to take the kids here. Arguably one of the best outside basketball courts in Los Angeles.

Parking is a mess. Crowded. Fast drivers. I would rather go slightly south to El Porto Beach in Manhattan Beach.

Cute playground structure for kids to play on. It's away from the beach however seems to be popular spot for the kids to burn off steam.

I love watching the ducks in the lagoon When my niece and nephew come to visit, I take them to the park and they seem to love the little park for kids.

The trailhead is technically listed on Jefferson, which confused me at first. But there's lots of parking at the Sports Park on the corner of Lincoln Blvd and Bluff Creek Dr. From there, you just walk across the street, and there's an unmarked entrance right on Lincoln. The walk itself is interesting in a way I didn't expect. You're right next to the highway, so you can see and hear cars the whole time, but it's still surprisingly calming. It feels like nature just existing alongside the city instead of trying to escape it. I didn't see a single other person while I was there. Just a lot of birds, open space, and a few benches that feel made for sitting and thinking about life in LA for a minute. Lol I've lived here my whole life and somehow never came out here before. It's definitely not some big dramatic hike, but it's peaceful, a little quirky, and dworth visiting at least once.
