View from the sand to the water. Good family beach.

Close to Santa Monica with a wholly different vibe. Quieter, cleaner, lots of families. It's what I remember going to the beach was like a long time ago (like 50 years ago. Or 60). The lifeguards are attentive and nice. There's plenty of space to put down your blanket and it's never a far walk from the car to the water. Paid parking. That's okay.

Come on a Thursday in November - there's nobody here!! Clean public bathrooms, $7 parking, handicapped walkway almost to the water. Short walk to the shoreline from the parking lot. Small cafe with ice cream, hot dogs, etc. at reasonable prices. Dogs on leashes are allowed :)

COVID-19: Social distancing is not enforced. None of the lifeguards wore a mask. All visitors are not expected to wear a mask. It's optional now. There are no hand sanitizers available. COVID-19 Vaccination Proof: This beach currently does not require proof of vaccination. While I was here at this beach yesterday, I asked if they allowed pets onto the beach, and they do not allow pets onto the beach UNLESS it's a service animal. They will fine you if you do bring a pet onto the beach. Parking: The parking lot for this establishment is massive, and it isn't free. During the summer, parking is $15 for the whole day. During the winter, parking is $9. Each parking spot is a bit small, so be careful where you park. They do take credit cards. No cash over $20 is accepted. Beach & Staff: The beach itself is very clean, neat, and tidy, The staff/lifeguards here are very kind, friendly, and chill. I decided to remove one star because the bathrooms were dirty AF and had absolutely no toilet paper anywhere in sight in all of the stalls.

This beach has plenty of volleyball courts that are close to the ocean as well as bathrooms. Parking is $15 on the weekends and many of the towers connect to each other so you can just go into one and drive around. Not too crowded on a weekend in September.

I love going to the beach, this is one of the perks of living in LA. But we stayed away from any beach for months during the pandemic. The one we like to go has lots of people roaming the streets around which normally we like, it's fun and lively, near cafes and restaurants. But this year that wouldn't work. So, I did my research (Yelp included) and found Will Rogers State Beach. It's closer to the city, a plus and I read that it's not that crowded. Off we went, first time in a weekend. The beach is right off PCH in Pacific Palisades going up to Santa Monica. There are signs and a big parking lot. We paid $15 for the weekend day. Next time we went on a weekday, it was a tad cheaper $9. There are nice guys who work there and take the money from or the card. Very helpful, I paid cash. The beach is big, wide, clean. It's not crowded, like Zuma (before COVID was crazy), but there are people around. At least everyone stays away, preserving the social distancing. So, no one sat next to us, everyone respected the 6ft rule. You do hear music from people, but that's everywhere on a beach. The bathrooms are easy to find and some of the nicest and cleanest I've been inside - So Cal area. No crowds in there, plenty of toilet paper and soap. There's also a cafe if you get hungry, need a snack, a drink, a burger. Cute, lines aren't crazy. The beach is pretty nice, you can see the pier in Santa Monica in the distance. Depends where you situate yourself you might not see the shore, it's a tad strange, my only complaint. We've seen tiger sharks in the water (harmless) and dolphins further away swimming in the ocean. Also, plenty of pelicans. So, bring a snack, a drink, sun protective lotion and enjoy the cool beach where they shot "Baywatch" the TV show. For us it was a nice respite this summer and part of our staycation!

Thank you, Will Rogers State Beach and the Pacific Ocean for comforting me... If you've ever got some mental/emotional stuff going on, I highly recommend a 6 mile, round-trip run/jog start from Will Rogers State Beach to the Santa Monica Pier (it's 3 miles from Will Rogers to SaMo Pier). Then afterwards, listen to the waves crash, watch the sunset and soak your feet/legs in the cool ocean water -feels amazing! Since the weather has been warmer lately, Will Rogers State Beach is a bit crowded. Although, fewer people than Venice and Santa Monica, in comparison though. Much less homeless folks around Will Rogers too. Has a snack bar, paid parking lot and NOTE: if you park along Temescal Canyon, it's free. Restrooms are decent -ladies room has about 4-5 stalls. Lifeguard on duty and people bring their dogs on this beach too.

Nuthin' But Sand beach clean-up with Heal the Bay
    Tim C.

03/17/2017 Heal the Bay beach clean-up on this wonderful Saturday. About 1100 people came to help clean this beach. Surprisingly enough, 3 car tires were brought back from different volunteers collecting trash. More than 300 pounds of trash had been collected. There were these two older ladies who reported something but did not pick up what they saw. Anything dangerous and/or sharp volunteers should not touch or pick up. So they reported a used condom in the parking lot nearby the Will Rogers State Beach sign. I wouldn't touch that neither. 01/18/2020 Coming back here with Heal the Bay, Nuthin' But Sand beach cleanup event once again. Volunteers have found vape devices in the sand. Still finding cigarette butts and styrofoam pieces. Two more car tires were found too. One was brought in to be included in the weight count. The other tire was being held hostage by the rocks as it is stuck underneath. That's how powerful the pounding surf could become. So be very careful climbing the rocks. Most of the trash found nearby the beach club nearby. There was a syringe found but was not recovered.

Love this beach! Parking is convenient ($15 per car during the summer time), but worth it as parking is very close to the beach.

So we go to YouTube to check out sunsets at Sunset Beach, and we saw a really pretty one, so we went! And weren't we surprised to find that the sun--in the middle of summer--sets pretty much exactly in the West (go figure), which from Sunset Beach, is over the mountains just beyond Malibu! LOL Anyway, it was still a nice getaway for the evening, and we had a relaxing evening on the beach with just a few beachgoers, and a bunch of seagulls who camped in a big circle around us, apparently approving of our choice of seats for the evening. The beach itself is nice and kept pretty clean. There are trash cans available all over the place, the lifeguards are on duty and appear to be vigilant, the parking is sufficient, but you do have to pay $5 for the day. We only saw one homeless guy, but he wasn't bothering anyone, and was just checking for recyclables in the trash cans. What more can I say about a public beach? Go! Enjoy the beach! Just check the map, or maybe head a little further South if you want a proper sunset in the summertime.

Beach of beaches…read more Ginger Rogers Beach named after the late great dancer, singer, actress - classically referenced as dance partner to Fred Astaire is probably my favorite in all of Southern California. A safe space and branch off from/at Will Rogers Beach unofficially officially the LGBTQ+ beach of Los Angeles. Sparking in the 1940s were queer men and women gathered to enjoy all the great comforts of beach time feel good fun. It didn't come without many obstacles from law enforcement, city officials and even locals, but ain't nobody nowhere got time for that. Keep Our Beaches Hate Free :) The bike and walking paths are clear, the sand is amazing, bike rentals available, the volleyball courts volley well... The restrooms are CLEAN - rinse/shower stations work well, some vendors selling snacks and frozen goods on a loop on the beach The views are super clear well and there's a sense of community that echoes in every direction. Maybe even more so since the painting of lifeguard towers 17 and 18 in rainbow flag chic in summer 2023, which were vandalized days after they were painted... But that's not going to put anyone off from enjoying not only the beach like anybody else, but being unafraid to dance it out, skip along the beach, hold a hand, share a kiss and take in a day's worth of summer bliss. We met up with Bears LA for their Summer Beach Day/Birthday Bash for Mr. Bear LA 2023 and his partner who's birthdays were a part of the festivities. They had a great tent next to tower, the bear pride flag and with our group of 40 (more tent covers, chairs, blankets, umbrellas, beverages and shareable snacks grew. I don't know how we got so lucky to also have another group of guys next to us with possibly the best DJ set list of music from the 60s to 2024 super remixed the entire time were were there. The set up with the speakers Donna Summer, Aaliyah, Beyonce, Gaga, Billie Eilish, 90s RnB, Funk, Soul, Rock, Pop, Alternative, ... seriously was this wonderland? Sand was amazing though I will say very very hot to walk on bare at times unless fresh out of the water and much later in the afternoon/evening (earlier was good too before 1PM). If you can shade yourself with a big umbrella like my boyfriend did for us and adjusted as the sun shifted, please do - while the weather was beyond perfect those UV rays are rich in Vitamin D but also intensity. Sunscreen is your friend for sure and when you're in a big group you have extra. It was so fun and so amazing to run into lots of people including allies all day long and friends from as far as Pomona, Whittier, our local bars in the valley (SFV) and further out. Parking is limited as the lots fill up from here to Santa Monica on those perfect beach days like they did today. You'll come across those makeshift lots from small businesses utilizing their space and a few others here and there. Plus there's tunnels that go under PCH to safely cross over to the beach side... One for Ginger Rogers Beach under the parking lot and one more Will Rogers centric on West Channel Road across from where it meets Chautauqua Blvd, it might pop up as the Roosevelt Tunnel and is actually a fun little journey where as the other tunnel is more of a direct shot after you descend the staircase ironically by the colorful Ocean Pacific Coast Stairs. If you're around Entrada Drive a lot of the local residential parking has no restrictions on Sundays only... however everyone might have the same idea to grab that street parking as they do. We found a $20/$25 lot which considering the 5 hours we spent at the beach with our group and each other was more than worth it. The wouldn't even let anyone in the main parking lot after it was super full probably to cut down on a huge parking lot jam. I haven't been here since before 2020, but absolutely hope to get another day in here soon while the heat is hot. Come on down to Ginger Rogers were all are welcome, leave the negative energy and bias elsewhere... Or better yet let it wash away.
