Beach Time: my daughters and I love a good beach day especially on a sunny February Saturday afternoon because you're in La La land and it never rains in Southern California. We got here around 3pm and immediately lucked out and got parking at this 3 hour parking lot yay!!! We got some water and snacks from the Manhattan pizza spot and then walked and found a cute beach spot. The beach was packed with swimmers, beach volleyball, families, surfers, cyclists, roller bladers. Just a great time . We chilled and read and ha le a great time . It was so relaxing and and fun watching everyone have a beautiful afternoon. We ended up dipping our feet in the water before we left and it was not cold ! Highly recommend it and will be back . read more

This is a really nice beach as well as a beach town. My review is for both since the town has lots of shops and restaurants which leads and ends right at the pier and sand. The pier leads to an aquarium which is really nice and has lovely views of the sea, sand, mountains, and even the volleyball courts. The town has a lot of charm. They probably have close to 70+ shops, eateries, and restaurants. It's contained within a few blocks so its to manage, with a couple small inclines. A few notable places are Nick's, the Strand, Simmzy's, and The Kettle, where we ate lunch. Overall I would say this is an upscale town and totally worth checking out, then going out along the water edge. Call it a very nice social outing. read more

It's generally pretty to visit manhattan beach throughout the year, and there are a lot of activities during the day, like surfing, beach volleyball, fishing, biking, rollerblading etc. There are all kinds of restaurants, bars, coffeehouses, and boutique shops within walking distance. From my experience, the only downside here is that parking could be very challenging, and the street parking spots and public garages could be filled up quickly. read more

First time visiting Manhattan Beach because of a Yelp event at Caffe Luxxe. So very cool to have learned about this beach because I didn't know it even existed until recently. Thank you Yelp and Caffe Luxxe! Beautiful beach! It's known as The Home of Beach Volleyball. Lots of volleyball nets available for people to play this wonderful sport. I used to play volleyball in high school... not competitively, but casually. Love to serve. Very fun sport! Honestly, any beach along the coastline is just a spectacular sight. When there's not a lot of people, it brings in a sense of serenity and calmness. When there's lots of people, it offers fun and the waves are loud. It's all about the energy! There are gorgeous beach homes alongside the beach. A wide walkway for visitors to stroll and enjoy the cool breeze, feel the warm sun, and take in the vibrant waves. An active pier is here as well. Some of the streets with homes on both sides will lead you right to the beach. Several public parking lots are located close by. These include the Upper Pier Lots, Lower Pier Lots, and Lot 2. Check them out before driving here. Street parking is also available, too. Remember to read the posted signs. I love to come back and see more of Manhattan Beach. I really enjoyed spending time here! The weather was overcast when I arrived so it was beautiful to just sit out and enjoy the sound of the waves and the ocean breeze. I arrived in the afternoon so the parking lot was full. It took a bit to find parking so I had to park elsewhere and walk down to the beach. I was able to find parking a little over half a mile away. The closer you get to the pier the more hectic the traffic is so I tried to park a little further from there. It really is a stunning beach! read more

Spent an incredible and romantic evening on this beach. We held hands, listened to the surf and watched the sunset. Children were playing, people were flying kites and several were fishing. The beach was clean and well patrolled by lifeguards and the police. We felt safe even after it got dark. Nobody bothered us. There were no homeless tents or associated trash. Parking was easy enough which surprised us bring summer in California. It's a beautiful beach and we enjoyed ourselves immensely. read more

Manhattan Beach is one of my favorite beaches. On this last visit when I went there in November, I got to swing on the swings and watch the sunset. I also enjoy being under the pier and pretend I'm a little mermaid while singing. Hahaha... Parking can be rough as I drove around and around and further until I was able to find a spot in the residential area. I walked along the pathway where the houses are next to the beach. These people are so lucky to live so close to this beautiful beach. I like how there's an feet/outdoor shower area at the restrooms, but there are so many birds inside that they will try threaten to poop on you. I didn't want to get pooped on so I didn't use the toilet. Lol read more

Very chill beach and we had a great time just hanging out. We arrived later in the evening so there wasn't many people. We sat down at a bench and just wave watched. The bathrooms were clean and had fully stocked toilet paper. We saw security driving around and we felt pretty safe. read more

A gorgeous beach with a beautiful walkfront and bike lane! The houses here are amazing to look at and are always the highlight when I go to this beach. There's large sections of soft sand at the coast with some areas for ADA. I think the weather here is usually great and the waves are pretty tame. I never swam here but I've always biked at this beach. I actually don't recall public bathrooms so that might be tricky. I believe there's constant signage of no dogs allowed with a $200 fine. Beach volleyball seems to be a perfect sport to do here! read more

This is not about the City of Manhattan Beach as a whole, but specifically directed toward its Parks and Recreation Department and administration of the Adult League. I have played in the Manhattan Beach Adult League, operated by the City of Manhattan Beach Parks and Recreation Department, for over 12 years without any prior disciplinary history. In August, a dispute occurred during a game. I immediately submitted a detailed self-report. The official report, my report, and another participant's report were consistent in their descriptions. I accepted the initial suspension issued at that time and expected the matter to be resolved. Months later, I was placed on an indefinite suspension without formal written notice identifying the specific rule violated, the length of suspension, or the criteria required for reinstatement. When I requested clarification, I received three different explanations for the indefinite suspension from League Commissioner Jeff Conover, Parks & Recreation Manager Mark Leyman, and Risk Management Manager Briza Morales. The explanations were inconsistent with one another. To date, no single clear or documented basis for the indefinite suspension has been provided. Despite repeated written requests, I have not been given documented investigative findings, a formal policy citation, or an opportunity to review or respond to conclusions. My team managers were not notified or included in any review process. During the game in question, I did not initiate physical contact and did not lay hands on anyone. I responded verbally after repeated verbal insults and aggressive play in front of the official. There was no physical misconduct on my part. It is also concerning that other reported incidents within the league involving physical altercations have resulted in lesser discipline. From my perspective, enforcement standards do not appear to be applied consistently. Male participants may be disciplined more severely than female participants in comparable circumstances. If policies differ, they should be clearly written and applied uniformly to all players. After more than a decade of participation, I am asking the City of Manhattan Beach Parks and Recreation Department for transparency, documented reasoning, and consistent application of league policies. Indefinite discipline without clear written standards, consistent explanations, or an opportunity to be heard raises serious concerns about fairness and due process. I remain willing to resolve this matter professionally and constructively. read more

I feel like this beach is so underrated, but also would love for it to stay that way. So that I can always find parking :). It's the perfect spot to go running, walking, biking, or having a picnic at the beach. & I love this spot to catch the sunset!!! Manhattan Beach was pretty nice but was not our favorite beach. During our visits in LA we have frequented Hermosa and Manhattan Beach. I personally like Hermosa a lot better. Hermosa is cleaner and better maintained. However, Manhatten beach did have very good shopping/dining right around it (on Manhattan Beach Blvd). At Manhattan Beach, we were whistled at almost every time we tried to go in the water and told to get out of the way of the surfers. Both beaches were fabulous for taking in the ocean, but Hermosa just seemed more "authentic" of an experience than Manhattan Beach. read more

You cannot go wrong with Manhattan Beach. All of the Volleyball playing and surfing. We love this beach so much, I wish more of our Orange County beaches had volleyball courts for us to participate with. Than it would save us a drive from coming to Manhattan lol. I say that in a complimental way. You will find some of the biggest fish here when fishing, and beware of sharks once in awhile here. There have been no attacks, but they do lurk around the beach here sometimes. read more

One of the cleanest beaches in LA! I love this beach - it's clean compared to other LA beaches. The water is free from debris or much plastic, great waves and it's overall clean if you decide to go into the water. The neighborhood is chill. Variety of restaurants to choose from -, easy eats, chill bars & fancy ones. Stores available for shopping and good variety of Ice cream and coffee shops! Parking lots available for a decent fee, metered parking and free street/ neighborhood parking. It's a safe community which is enjoyable for walks and no concerns of theft. No big dogs allowed in the beach - only small ones in your bag that are calm. Life guards available daily during summer soon. Awesome beach strand for walking and biking available. Overall this is a superb beach to visit for a beach day. read more

THIS IS ONE MY FAVORITE BEACH CITIES ================================= I've been going to Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach for years and they're my top two favorites. In the past week I've been to Manhattan Beach twice to walk on The Strand and it is so nice. I'm really impressed at how clean they keep the beach and the restrooms. The last time I was there on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, I met my friend Peggy and we visited the Aquarium at the end of the Manhattan Beach Pier. It is free, but they have a box for donations. It was nice. Don't forget to go upstairs too. There are lots of restaurants to grab breakfast, lunch or dinner close to the pier. I loved the brunch at Manhattan Beach Post a few years ago. The Rockefeller was good too. If you are back in your car Joey Manhattan Beach inside the mall is good, but really loud. If the weather is nice I would recommend eating outside. I highly recommend going before school is out for the summer. It's so easy to find five hour parking right by the pier. I really need to go again before it gets too busy. read more

Saturday, 10/9/2021 - Checked out Manhatten Beach for the 1st time. We absolutely love it!!! It wasn't packed, smelled like ocean, no loitering everywhere, clean, people friendly, beach soft, volleyball area, bathroom, life guards, helicopter flying over, just beautiful! Upon arrival: Pros: 1) very clean, beautiful beach. 2) people biking, jogging, walking, and skating. 3) soft sand. 4) bathrooms are available. 5) life guards 6) great atmosphere 7) people were very nice. Cons: 1) street, meter parking only. 2) $2.00 per hours worth a max at 3 hours. 3) was so hard to find parking. Lots of 24 minutes parking spots open. Conclusion: We absolutely love this beach and this area! Definitely recommend this area! We will come here again next time we visit. Only 25 minutes-ish from LAX Airport. read more

A perfect beginning to a perfect day. Me & my cousin decided to rent some bikes from Marina Bike Rental in Redondo beach and ride up the coast to Manhattan beach where we saw a couple getting married (love is in the air). It was a chill day, not too many people out and the sun is shining. We admired all of the beautiful beach homes along our ride and took notes of the ones we want to rent out. There is plenty of room on the path for cyclers, people walking, running or skating. If you get hungry, there are plenty of places to eat (Martha's is my fave) & shop at, along with restrooms at the pier & on other parts of the beach and they are pretty clean, considering it's for the public to use. We got complimentary parking at the bike rental place in their parking lot but there is more than enough metered street parking. read more

This was my second visit to Manhattan Beach. One during a work trip and the other for my niece's pre-wedding reception. Despite her pre-wedding reception being held on a public beach, we basically had what felt like the entire beach to ourselves and it couldn't have been more perfect and fitting for the occasion. During my recent visit, I was surprised by how clean the beach was and I really like how wide the boardwalk is here compared to other beaches I've visited. Manhattan Beach has become one of my favorites to watch the sunset. There are also plenty of eateries and shops nearby making this beach worth visiting. I would definitely come back again! read more

The good: This is a beautiful beach that's great for surfing, dolphin watching, fishing off of the pier, taking photos under the pier, people watching, bike riding, walking, picnicking, roller skating, etc. There are tons of restaurants and shopping spots walking distance from here. There's metered parking everywhere. There are lots of volleyball nets set up as well. I saw a few dolphins bouncing around this area. The bad: It can get pretty crowded which makes the place feel a little more hectic and a little less peaceful. The interesting: Sunsets here are magical. Seeing the sunset on the horizon with the deep ocean colors and smooth beach made me feel like I was watching some nostalgic music video about a California SoCal surf youth I didn't have. One of my favorite beaches. I frequent this beach more than any other beaches because of its vibes, restaurants, bike lane, and the gorgeous sunset. There are so much happening here. Annually, they have a mini-triathlon taking place here near the pier. So many people congregate to the beach and creates a very festive atmosphere. And there are many activities taking place on a daily basis as well. Before the pandemic, there were many beach valley tournaments and car shows as well as bike competitions. I come here often to ride bike along the beach bike lanes. You can start from here and ride all the way to Santa Monica. After a good work out, I would stop by one of the restaurants in Manhattan beach. They have so many good restaurants here. One of my favorite restaurants is Nicks. They have very good California cuisines. I love their garlic bread and the fried asparagus. The Strands and Rock n Fish are the two other restaurants I patronize often as well. They both have great food and amazing views of the beach. If you come around sunset time, Manhattan Beach has one of the most amazing sunsets in California. When sun sets on the horizon of the Pacific Ocean, you would be mesmerized by the beauty of the scenery. When I see the sunset, I always think of the many songs about California beaches, the Beach Boy songs, anyone? It's worth it to just come down here to what the sunset. There are many meter parking spots here for $2/ hour. I never had any problem finding parkings. read more

Came here on a Monday around 4pm. There is plenty of parking near the pier. You do have to pay. Not so crowded which I loved plus they have an aquarium which is neat on the pier. You can surf as well. There's volleyball courts too. There's some nice restaurants near the beach. read more

Manhattan Beach was the cleanest beach that I saw on my trip. Although it was cloudy, it was still fun to walk on the sand and enjoy the water. If you are a volleyball player, this is the place to be! Dozens of nets are up for people to play games and I wish that I had had the time to jump in. Been coming here for the past decade cause wife loves, Im ok with it but like any other beach lots of issues. Its really at the end of the day up to your tolerance level. I prefer a quiet, easy direct point of access beach with no parking nightmares or stupid events low key typa beach like Hollywood in Oxnard, but hey thats me and literally no one else. Pros: Clean beach water wise Parking structure few blocks up usually can find daily rates 12-15 bucks and up until 11or 12ish plenty of room. (The metlox NOT any other one those are terrible and cramped.) A Vons, many eateries from sushi to pizza to tacos. Pleasant area up escalators from metlox parking with petros, nicks, lemonade, open seating nice area. Noahs bagels, but not a fan until they learn how to toast bagels. Starbucks, joy. Lots of scattered street parking for placards its great but time limit not good without. Great walking up and down (actually left and right) above the pier takes you into Hermosa...its about 1.7 miles each way, with depressing views of homes you will never be able to afford. Cons: Tar city....be sure and take tar-wipes or baby oil you will get tar. and its a bitch to get off from your beach slippers/sandals as well. Not ONE burger joint; cant figure this one out, or a nice sub sandwich place (dont tell me manhattan pizza I will shoot you.) Steep slope 3 blocks up/down from parking, unless you get here very early to grab the 5-hr limit parking spots near the beach (good luck with that after 9am MAX) Very trying climb back up with beach gear and coolers to parking structure. This summer more than ever, seems every FUCKING week there's a stupid-ass event; Volleyball tourney, whack-ass concert, car show, dick show, bug-spray pop-up village maze like shit promotion tent blocking parking. I mean whatever they can find to block the streets and parking...a bike race through the city...I mean FUCK just block the fucking exit from the freeway so we don't waste our time. But nothing like the Hermosa Beach nightmare to park in that awful single parking structure, thats on another level of torture. Very crowded beach and very wavy...tons of surfers, not a pleasant beach to swim as the waves are relentless and pound the dickens outta your...dickens. The crowd...lets just say cant get worse but does every year...sigh read more

Lots of metered parking, places to lock your bike, area to relieve your bladder, vending machine for water, outdoor "cafe" when an event is going on such as surfing heats. I've cycled past, through, & stopped here about 8 times now at 0600, 0730, 1730, & on a lazy afternoon @ 1300. The am and pm times tons of surfers dotting the waters & crossing the bike paths. In the AM, older guys probably with knee replacements (they stand by their cars, coffee in hand, squinting or reminiscing) are watching the waves & surfers create poetry. Sand/ beach is clean. 2 homeless guys like to use these facilities & cook with their hotpot & collect things to put on their bikes. I've crossed their paths early in am and at 8pm or so. They seem to be in good spirits & are chatty with eachother. Who wouldn't be smiling living on the beachfront? You can run about 3 miles to Manhattan beach pier and play with starfish in the "touch me" tide pool in the aquarium at the end of the pier. read more

I love this place! It's very close to LAX, it's clean and the people who frequent this area are nice and mostly there to surf or work out. There is a long biking trail that is frequented by bikers, runners, walkers and leisure bikers as well. Ok the beach you will find surfers and those playing beach volleyball. Plenty of parking in the main parking area. I will be back here to run, feel the breeze, see the beautiful ocean and the sites. read more

My first stop off the plane on a recent Southern California trip... loved Manhattan Beach! Full disclosure, a sunny warm beach gets EXTRA points from this Seattle girl especially when its cold and rainy back home. Ha! The beach is nice and big, lots of room to explore and spread out. Despite the beach area being absolutely sold out of parking - the beach did not feel overly crowded. There seems to be plenty of space for families, volleyball games, surfing, etc. Saw two different groups with professional photographers while we were there. This beach and the beautiful pier are popular! The pier is a do not miss. It's such an iconic pier - it just screams California vacation! We spent lots of time exploring the pier and taking pictures. Worth the walk out on - the pier has a small homegrown aquarium at the end of it. Lots of visiting and viewing spots along the way - this was an ideal place to see some real authentic California surfing! So fun to watch! Lots of places within walking distance of the beach and pier area for shopping and dining. Truly, my only complaint is there just isn't enough public parking. We had to circle around quite a bit up and down the hills until we finally had good timing and lucked out on a primo spot just across the street from the pier. The public parking is a paid lot - but still extremely busy. read more
