We booked the sunset ride for Sunday at 7:00 p.m. We checked in around 6:40. It only took about 5 minutes to fill out the waiver and get a wristband and walk towards the water. They also have a key to the bathroom, which is around the corner. Even though we were 20 minutes early, they let us get on the water bike after a quick instruction. Riding on the water bikes was really fun! We rode around the bay and the water was choppy sometimes but as you get inside the bay, the water is calmer. A trick is that if you feel the water is too choppy, start paddling - the water will calm down with the pedaling. There are several boats around which provided live music for us. The bike has two cup holders and a front container to put your phones and small stuff in. We had a great time. They share a parking lot with nearby restaurants which offer 3 hours of free parking. That is a huge plus for something near the beach! We will be back next time to try a glow ride. read more

We did this at night for my cousin's birthday. We were running late and since it's a bit tricky to find, got there later than expected but they were nice enough to still let us ride. Don't look for an office just to to the dock behind Ballast Point Brewery. It was cool the first 20 mins then it turned into a workout. The lifejackets we got were wet, so being there at 9pm, that added to the chill factor. My cousin, the birthday honoree, was given a bike that had half the lights on! He got on last and I wish he would've asked for another bike. The man getting us situated was nice but a bit hard to understand, even if I speak Spanish lol, and we weren't given a map. Luckily I found one on their website that I screenshot. Unfortunately, the area I wanted to go to was too far, it took us 40 mins just to get there considering we were a bit lost even with the map. It's hard to tell where you're going at night. So we didn't do the little roundabout by the homes and just headed back. I would do this again but can't imagine during the summer or we'd sweat even more. I think I would try the sunset one next time. read more

For the holidays our family decided to do the Christmas Eve Christmas Lights hydrobike ride through the lights in the canals of an area named "Naples." For background, Naples is a beautiful neighborhood that features lovely homes on either side of a canal. Many of the homes dock small boats in the canal to move in and out the area. Naples is also noted as one of the best places in the greater Los Angeles area to see Christmas lights. In the past I'd walked through here to look at lights and it was just beautiful. When I found the Instagram account for this experience I could not have been more excited. From the videos, it appeared that you would be given a hydrobike at the beginning of the canals and then gently pedal through the area and get off the hydrobike at the end of the canals. Well, it turned out to be a little more complicated than that. LOL When we arrived for our reservation, we found that the hydrobikes were some distance from the canals. It didn't bother us at first. Then once we got on the bikes we realized that due to currents and wind, we would be pedaling somewhat vigorously for about 25 minutes before we reached the canals. We were also concerned because the attendant that evening didn't give the clearest directions on how to get to the canals. While they do have a boat guiding people at the front of the group, they don't have an attendant on a hydrobike guiding the whole group. We were at the back of the group of roughly 25 hydrobikes making their way to the canals and we quickly lost sight of the guide boat. Luckily, there were floating, illuminated Christmas trees which we could follow across the water to the canals. The video also promoted free hot cocoa during the ride but it was never offered to us. After pedaling for about 25 minutes we reached the canals and the ride through there was gorgeous. Full of wonderful light displays on stunning homes. By that point we were all very sweaty even though it was cold evening. So if you decide to do this on a winter evening, know that you will initially need warm clothing for the cold and then need to take it off during your ride when you become hot from pedaling. After we finished pedaling through the canals we had to make our way back across the water to where we started to return our hydrobikes. This was the hardest part since we were a bit tired by then. We are all reasonably fit and exercise regularly but it was still a bit rough going at the end. Still loved aspects of the ride but probably won't do it again. You might love the whole thing and it might be a much different experience if done in warmer months. read more

So I'm gonna be completely honest. It was different from what I was expecting. We were completely lost at first trying to find the place. I wish there had been more signs up to direct us or like a map sent via email with info beforehand or something. And I thought it was gonna be a group thing where everyone goes out together at the same time, but it's just you and whoever you bring going out together. It was also more scary and intimidating to get on these water bikes at first than I was expecting, especially with the water looking like the black lagoon. But once we got on and were on our way we had a fun time and the view was beautiful. The speaker was definitely needed for the vibes. And it will be a leg workout. Wish we moved faster with all the pedaling we were doin but once we made it out by the homes with pretty lights it felt like we were coastin in a dream world. It was a beautiful memorable night, I will definitely come back again with a cute boy one day. But I might wear some booty padding next time because me and my cousins booties were sore right after and for the next 2 days following lol. read more

It was a nice way to see all the Christmas lights around Naples. I thought it would be cold out on the water at night but once you get to pedaling you warm up fast. came here 2 weeks ago to celebrate a friends bday.. I did this 6 yrs ago, and I forgot that this a workout and forgot your butt hurts when pedaling because the seats on these bikes are hard. I asked the guy who was working at the counter, if they got rid of the two seater bikes, and he told me that they got rid of that 6 yrs ago.. This is a great activity to explore the little ocean/lake of long beach.. when we were pedaling back we were pedaling against the wind and we were both tired. lol... read more

So much fun! I took my Mom, she's always wanted to bike ride but never got a chance to learn AND she LOVES the water so I thought, "heck why not put her on a water bike?!" LOL well, glad to report we had a TOTAL blast! The water is very lively! We counted 7 boats where the captain or his passengers waved at us! It was super cute everyone was having a great time! Many gorgeous birds with massive wings, some even scooping fish from the water (I was devastated at first but c'est la vie). Cute tadpoles swimming near the deck! Plus, I think someone recently proposed on the water because I found roses (on the stem) floating! The service is great though I will mention some of the younger workers have sort of a non communicative style and their answers don't necessarily give you a boost of confidence lol the older and possibly more experienced workers who we met on our way out are really fun, sweet and knowledgeable. Michael was very knowledgeable and helpful on how to safely navigate the bay and cycle through the Naples' canals. The bikes are stable and equipped with two beverage holders. I brought a refreshing beverage & water for a hot day and happily played music while I cycled on water. It was a great way to spend an afternoon. I went back this past weekend, and it was as great as a year ago! Me and my boyfriend went when it was at 4:30 pm so we got to see the sunset together for the first time. Honestly the person that met us there he was a really nice guy and did great in informing us what to do where to go and how to be since it was our first time. I recommend night because it was so calm and beautiful at night with the lit up bikes and renting the speaker playing my own music was just the night of all nights and literally made me and my daughter's weekend honestly. If you want a unique water activity look no further than Long Beach Waterbikes. This is such a fun thing to do. The staff is incredibly kind and responsive. If you join their text program you can get a free birthday ride. You do have to use the ride within a certain time frame. You can find free parking in the lot where the check in is located. Once you get down on the dock you'll sign a waiver and get a life jacket. We did the hour day time ride but the glow ride at night looks really cool as well. I am not in great shape but was able to do the ride for an entire hour. My family is already talking about doing this again. I would definitely recommend this!! read more

So fun! As our two kids have gotten older, we've reevaluated our Christmas activities and thought our older teens would enjoy this. Went on a Friday night at Christmas time and loved it. A tip: If you're going during winter, don't bother with a ski cap, gloves, or heavy coat. The beginning and end when you're riding across the main channel are a bit strenuous (esp. for this 62 y.o.), and you'll be shedding all your heavy clothes. A t-shirt and light sweatshirt is really all you need. The main section in the Naples canals with the Christmas lights reflecting on the water is really beautiful and you barely have to peddle. read more

Oh we had so much fun. Might be sore in the morning but it was so much fun. Make sure to potty right before because having to potty on the way back when you're legs are ready to give out is not fun . I had the opportunity to ride the hydro bikes at Sunset! It was girls night! We enjoyed it. Beautiful sunset and glow! Plan ahead and have dinner or lunch at Ballst Point. It gets super busy there!!!! Bring friends because it's way more fun in a group! Camera ready for the sunset! A few tips; Plan a day when it is not windy. Not high tide. Prepare to paddle really fast when leaving the dock because the location of the bikes is very close to the end of the break water and it can get choppy. Don't worry, the likely chance of you tipping is low. I would be more worried about the drunk boat drivers. So know your safety. You do not have the right of way here. Ride to be safe! Been here on a couple of occasions to hydro bike through Naples. I'm bummed to know they no longer have a Groupon since an hour for 30 dollars seem a little high. I say this because it takes about that long to do a big circle around and through naples. I'd like it far more if there was time to peddle and take breaks and explore around without having to rush back within that hour. Last time I did this was about 10 months ago therefore I am unsure if they're much stricter a about this. Regardless this would be a fun activity during the holidays and I'm waiting to do night biking through naples to see all the fun decorations that are up. Hydrobikes were $25 per person for one hour. It was so much fun. Initially I was scared because I don't know how to swim but k love being in or around water. These hydro bikes definitely allowed me to be on the water without being afraid of drowning. They are very easy to navigate and all you have to do is pedal. I suggest going on a day where it's not too windy so that you aren't afraid of falling off. They also provide you with a life jacket so you are totally safe and nothing to worry about. They have a parking lot and stores nearby to have lunch or dinner afterwards. It's and unforgettable experience. read more

What a fantastic day it was to hydro bike at Alamitos Bay. I had such an incredible time zipping through the open bay and Naples canal. Mechanics are straightforward. Peddle forward to go straight and backward for reverse. The pontoons keep the bike in balance. Thus you won't have to worry about tipping over. I was also glad that they had free JBL Bluetooth speaker for rental. Connecting to my phone was a simple process, and I blasted that baby to the tunes of Queen, Guns N Roses, Journey, Aerosmith, etc. The cost was $15 per person per hour (Early Bird Special), and it is possible to ride to the canal and back within an hour. Also, if you are a fan of seeing nice houses, you will enjoy the view. read more

Pedaling can be a bit of a workout if you want to push it, or you can take it easy and give your thighs a break. For those wondering if you will get wet or might fall in the water, I'd say the chances are pretty slim for both. Beautiful date idea, excellent views, and plenty of post-ride dining options near by. Booking was easy. They have clear and specific rules on their site and signature page before you ride. Service is quick and friendly both times. They answered all my questions and concerns with ease. Tips: (1) Add their help line phone number to your cell before you get on the bikes in case you need a tow, need rescue, or need anything. (2) Bring a thick Gel Bike Seat Cover and attach it before you ride. Both times, my calves and legs did not give out, but my butt hurts because the seats are not comfortable at all.
