From the exterior, there's nothing really standout about the place other than it clearly being a Spanish styled restaurant. However, the two-in-one combo of panaderia and restaurant is awesome. The pan dulce (I haven't tried) looks amazing and the food, which comes in large portions, is awesome too. And it is all made in house! The Jamaica is pretty good and paired with the chicken quesadilla that I had, I wasn't disappointed in the slightest. I don't quite understand some of the bad reviews here!? My partner and I ordered take-out via phone call for the first time here tonight and we had no issues/the young lady speaking was very nice! We just love Mexican food and this food was amazing!, so much so, that I felt inclined to immediately share our takeaway! Seeing that we recently re-located to Oregon, this is hands down our favorite Mexican food thus far! I read about this restaurant on Reddit (out of all places), while we still lived in MA, and this food surely did not disappoint! I took a Yelper's recommendation and ordered the fish burrito, wet, with green sauce. Oh my gosh!, it was soo so good! The flavors were spot on, and it certainly was not bland, as some other Yelpers have stated about their orders. It was a big, happy, burrito filled with protein, rice, beans, cabbage,etc. I ate each piece smothered in sauce, and a bit of pico! Heaven! It was big enough to save half for tomorrow to savor! :) We can't wait to eat this Mexican food again! Next time we will stop by and dine in-person, and try the pastries that everyone raves about in the reviews! I've been coming to Sanchez for years. I love the food but the price and portioning are not lining up. They Over charge for breakfast burritos. I just ordered a torta and it's basically a huge ass piece of bread with little meat or toppings. Had to cut it in half myself because no one did and had to otherwise wouldn't be edible. I told myself to go somewhere else but was craving a torta so bad. I've eaten about 5 tortas in the last 30 days and Sanchez has the worst one so far. Okay, this place caught me by surprise! The reviews are great, but I wasn't expecting to walk in with the enticing aroma of a bakery. I was aware they were a bakery as well, but that smell of sweet pastries blasts you upon walking in. Everyone's super friendly and helpful. I saw a pic of what was labeled as a "So. Cal Burrito" and was hoping they had an off menu California Burrito, but they didn't. Next thing you know, they're asking me what's in it, and after telling them they didn't have to, he insisted. So I told him it's basically a carne Assad burrito with fries, cheese and sautéed onions. No rice or beans. He showed me a pic of wedge looking potatoes they make in house there and asked if he could make me one with them in it. I really didn't want him to go out of his way, but he insisted, and I'm so glad he did. Their potatoes are really good and went well with the steak. So simple, but sooo good! I've heard about this place for months but haven't gone, but finally made the effort to try it out. It's right on the side of the road, and they have both a kitchen and bakery. We didn't get to try any of the baked items since they're all guten, but we did try a macroon (which was Huge!), and it was pretty dang good. A big interesting and different since it was yellow on the inside, so I'm not sure what they added to it, but it was pretty tasty. Apparently they have really good burritos, but I went for tacos, tongue, asada, and fish. The food seems authentic, in the sense that you get the meat, a bit of cabbage, and the tortilla, nothing else like onions, tomatoes, beans, etc. that is typical of tex mex. The tortillas were super fresh (I think they make it themselves since they have a bakery), so they were really nice, hot, and doughy. I'm not sure if they were wheat or corn because the texture seemed between corn and flour. Personally, I wasn't that impressed by the food and think there was too big of an imbalance between meat and tortilla (too much tortilla), and the meat were somewhat lacking in flavor. The fish were definitely my favorite, clearly fresh made and super hot. They have some also homemade hot sauces, spicy and bitter, or medium verde. Immediately i could tell this was popular with the locals. Lots of families. Food was served quickly. Both the green and red salsas pack a punch. 1.5 My colleague was hyping up how this place was his family's go-to Mexican restaurant, so I had to go check this place out (straying from my usual Don Pedro's). Plus, I pass by this place all the time while on my way to H-Mart. Needless to say, I paid the price for straying. My usual chile relleno was made with low quality freezer burn cheese and smothered in a thick tomato sauce. It was accompanied by a generous heap of refried beans, rice and four flour tortillas. I have had amy fair share of chile relleno goodness around Portland, and this is the first place that serves it with a chunky spaghetti tomato sauce that makes it taste all wrong. There is no option to pick whether you want flour or corn tortillas. At almost $15 a plate (Don Pedro's is only 8.99 for this dish), it was a huge plate of disappointment. No amount of their house made green or red sauce helped it. My date ordered a steak huarache, and while the meat is decently marinated, the huarache itself pales in comparison to the authentic huaraches you find in Mexican food carts (my favorite huarache is from Chopollo's). The tortilla/skin that was holding the huarache together is this thick, chewy, bland skin sprinkled with paprika? The price for this was also double the amount of your average huarache at other places. Not only is the food below average, their prices are double the amount of most Mexican establishments (restaurants and food carts). Overall, a very disappointing meal. read more

Quirky on the outside, warm on the inside was my first impression of Sanchez Taqueria. We entered and were greeted with big smiles and a polite hello. We ordered from the counter and paid, grabbed some cold water and took a seat while our takeout order was prepared. My wife opted for the chicken burrito (no beans or rice), our son and his wife ordered the tacos, I opted for the flautas and our grandkids had the quesadilla and of course a big bag of chips for all. Order was completed during a short wait and we noticed there were no chips. Tears rolling down our cheeks we tell the kind lady we are missing our chips. She checks the receipt and notices she forgot to write it down and of course we were not charged. Instead of making a big deal of it she goes to kitchen and comes back with a huge bag of chips and with a smile says we hope you enjoy. Now, that is customer service. We get home and unpack everyones food, open a couple cold ones and begin our Friday night feast. Tacos are huge and come with a choice of several different meats. My flautas are rolled in corn tortillas and I am impressed with the flavor and with four it makes a good meal. My wife mentioned her burrito was a bit dry but had a good flavor. So Mrs. BurgerDogBoy and I used to go to this little bar down 99W in Tigard, I think it was called Rodney's - and I'd get a club sandwich (which was fine!), and she'd get ribs or a perfectly adequate steak. The staff was personable, and they'd have bar type events, which we didn't participate in, but often seemed to draw a crowd. In one corner of the bar was a small counter selling tacos, and poof! One day the "Rodney's" part was gone, and the entire joint had been commandeered by the taqueria, now operating under the name of Sanchez's. They have a fairly simple, brief, authentic Mexican menu, and last nite Mrs. BurgerDogBoy had a yen for a little tongue, so we were off to visit the Sanchez's. She ordered the tongue plate, which came with a pile of meat, prepared in the usual manner,with onion and cilantro, and some ample sides of beans and rice. I went with the beef, offered similarly, and our plates each came with four warm soft tortillas, clearly prepped in the home-style manner. The food was flavorful and ample, and the plates were $11.00 each. The building houses the taqueria at one end, and a Mexican bakery at the other, tho the bakery is closed at night, except for self-serve coolers of the day's oven proceeds. As Mrs. BDB was raised in Los Angeles, she knows her Mexican, and she loved this meal. Portland has been a black hole when it comes to authentic Mexican food, but lately, the offerings have improved tremendously. Particularly on that trip of 99w, a number of Mexican cafes, groceries, and bakeries have popped up. The Sanchez's offer a wide variety of Jarritos sodas, including my favorite, the pineapple one. They also have a few beers. You won't find the garish decorations usually associated with Americanized Mexican cafes, nor any staples we have become used to, like nachos, or chips and salsa. What you will find is filling, tasty, home-style Mexican food, and some pretty hefty-industrial strength fluorescent lighting. It's worth a stop. read more

When I'm in SW, I try to make it a point to frequent different eateries, just because the makeup of the communities is constantly changing and evolving. But the food here, for whatever reason brings me back to summers I would spend with my grandparents down in Woodburn. I think it's the combination of authentic Mexican flavors and the smell of fresh baked goods lingering in the background as you eat. If you think the prices are a little higher here than some of the taco carts you see around town, your probably right. But let me get this out of the way - the portions are huge, and a plate of anything will easily feed two people. On this visit, I got carnitas enchiladas, and they're buried away somewhere in there under the lettuce, next to the two mountains of beans and rice. For perspective, that place is at least 12 inches in diameter. I don't leave without something from the bakery, no matter how full I am. On this visit, I split one of their giant donuts 3 ways with some friends. The food is prepared fresh, the portions are enormous, and the prices are reasonable. That, and it's one of those places that may not be super nice on the surface, but reminds you of your grandmother's kitchen. read more
