Best sushi place I've ever been too, service is great! They really make you feel at home. Small restaurant the owners are extremely sweet, the daughter sometimes bakes cupcakes and gives them out to the costumers. Highly recommend this place, perfect for a first date. I am here for lunch: rainbow roll, Cali roll and Saki...place is about half full with everybody seeming happy with the food... You can tell the guy behind the counter is a master at his profession by the way he makes his moves...prices are reasonable and ambience is real...I will stop by next time I am in the area!! My brother introduced me to this place when I was very young. I was not the biggest fan of sushi since I was never introduced to this type of food cuisine until I was a teenager. By far, Japanese food cuisine is one of my favorite types of food next to Portuguese and Ethiopian cuisine. Samurai Sushi was one of the first Japanese restaurants I have ever tried, and they established a high standard for all of the other Japanese restaurants I will try in the future. I would keep going to this restaurant for family events and enjoying a dinner date with my girlfriend (ex-girlfriend now). Each time I would dine-in in this restaurant, my experience was different in a good and bad way. Food: Samurai Sushi has a great selection of sushi organized in alphabetical order with unique names. I do not bother to select anything besides a sushi roll from this restaurant; I am just not a big fan of the other menu choices in the restaurant because I am so decisive on the rolls only. Also, the portions are not too different from other competition in the Turlock area, so do not expect to get a bargain from their sushi rolls. Since fish and other seafood are typically more expensive than land animals, the price of their sushi are very reasonable and can be correlated to other competitive prices in the area. In addition to the restaurant's pricing system, they have a wide pricing range from small rolls (4-6 rolls for $6.95. maybe even cheaper?) to $13.95 sushi rolls rather than only providing expensive rolls to their consumers or customers. I am very content for their price ranges. This restaurant is a pescatarians' food paradise and also contains some vegan options! Location: Their location and restaurant placement is such huge factor for their business. If you are a first timer or just a wandering individual, you may not notice the restaurant's location. The restaurant's location is one of their weakest areas because they do not have any advertisements outside of their restaurant nor at the side of the road to direct new customers to their restaurant. I know they will continue their business by attracting sushi lovers and transforming them in regulars. Service: Their customer service can be a lot better from my past experiences eating at this restaurant. I have not seen the certain individual in a long time, so my experience has been very delightful lately. On the other side, I am always greeted by the owners and staff each time I stop by to eat some delicious sushi rolls! Environment: The environment is very calm and couldn't be any better in my opinion. However, the restaurant does have two televisions, but I barely see the televisions ever on from my experience eating at the restaurant. Also, I think some cool Japanese music in the background can help the restaurant's atmosphere to the fullest potential. Overall, I will continue to dine-in in this restaurant for their atmosphere and food. The only area and advice I would give to this restaurant provide some unique sushi rolls that involve some fruits and other combinations, so their regulars see some great alternatives. The service has been excellent! I would recommend this restaurant to my friends, family, and clients. Samurai Sushi is a perfect place to share a meal with friends and relatives. read more

While at Baskin Robbins my two year old niece wanted to use the bathroom, since this business doesn't have a bathroom I walked outside to look for one in the businesses next door. I walked in this sushi place and asked if my two year old niece could use the bathroom. An older Asian lady said she she couldn't use it, it's for customers only. They had no customers inside so I'd understand if they were busy but refuse to allow a two year old to use it is just plain selfish! I told her, "Really? A two year old can't use the bathroom? You have no customers." She finally allowed her to use it and kept arguing with me while the server was laughing. Refuse service to a 2 year old? I'll NEVER go there to dine EVER! read more

Eh this place has the potential to be good but very shitty service. I was visiting the area and wanted sushi so my cousin took me out to eat. We came to this restaurant, walked in and we were the only customers. We were seated right away but it took our server more than 15 minutes to come by so that I can order a drink. I noticed the place was super quiet. I saw tv's and I kindly asked if they played any music and our server gave me an attitude and said no. I was very surprised that she gave me the face that she did because I honestly asked very nicely in the case that maybe they didn't play music. Anyways things got worse. I love sushi and theirs was pretty good (which takes a lot for me to say because I know good quality sushi) except for the fact that I could immediately tell that the fish was not cold. It felt room temperature (almost all places I go to serve cold cuts of fish unless it's fried). My sister and I had this issue before at a different place in Santa Cruz and she kindly asked if they had colder fish and in that case they did and gladly replaced our rolls. Here I asked kindly and in return I got an attitude the server said it is cold after I had said that I felt the fish was on the warmer side and wanted to know if they had colder fish. She ran to the back and I could hear her telling her mom with an attitude that I was complaining about the temperature of the fish. She made me sound like I was being a prick but I totally wasn't. Her mom then came by and she handled the situation fine except that towards the end she started to get an attitude and so I told her I wasn't complaining, I simply wanted to know if they had colder fish. Whatever the server was being a b***. If I had been by myself, I would have honestly walked out of this place without paying. The food was good but the service was horrible. Perhaps this restaurant should consider being a take-out only sushi place. It is a shame. They need to fire their daughter, she's ruining the place. read more

About a week ago, I met a friend here for lunch because she used to frequent this restaurant. Since her last visit the owners had changed and there was a new menu that my friend was not familiar with. Apparently during some of the discussions about what might be good another customer thought we may be complaining and wrote on their receipt something about my friend being a "Karen." Well the food wasn't great but it wasn't terrible either. However, one of the employees took a pic surreptitiously of my friend, and another of this receipt the customer had left and posted both of them on Snapchat. My friend had no idea that her image was being exploited by some ding dong that probably thought he was being funny. She never felt so mortified in her life. And the thing is, neither one of us complained about anything. Not the lame food. The server was pretty good and I left her a tip. It wasn't until later that day that a friend of hers showed her the Snapchat post. From an employee. For a company that had no problem taking my money. Hands down, most amazing sushi place, ever!!! I didn't start eating sushi until 5 years ago when my cousin had me meet her there. I didn't even want to try it, but am so glad I did ! It was absolutely delicious and so full of flavor ! I have tried several other sushi places in the bay area and nothing compares or is as wonderful as samurai ! I absolutely love this place... I got really bad food poisioning from sushi about a year and a half ago, and this is now the only place that I order sushi from in the area. The Golden Eye roll is delicious, I love the spicy teriyaki sauce that they put on top. And I love spicy, so I go for the Mexican Roll, a cali roll topped with hot sauce and jalapenos. Definitely going to be a frequent customer here. Loved the warm homey feeling of this place. Every customer was greeted by the whole staff as they walked in and wished a good day on their way out. I have read the negative reviews on the service and food but it seems like it has stepped up since then. Our waitress was constantly checking on our table and clearing it of dirty plates that we finished with and kept up with our demand of thirst. I am VERY picky with sushi and I give this place a thumbs up. Very fast service but at the same time you can taste the "love" in every roll. If you are in the Turlock area I definitely recommend Samurai Sushi and if in Modesto I would visit Raw Sushi. PS: My friends and I got the Countryside roll, the Elizabeth roll and the 007 roll with a side of the combination friend tempura. Mmm good! SIDENOTE: I dropped my wallet that had about $150 in cash in it without knowing it fell out of my pocket and the waitress did not hesitate to pick it up and give it back to me! Delicious! Stopped in for some sushi to go on our road trip. We got the My Way, the California roll, and the Super Girl roll. Wow!! The customer service was also fabulous. Knowing we were taking it to eat in the car, the employee gave us some cups to use for dipping sauce without having to ask. So thoughtful!
