He's a great doctor with a great personality. He remembers little things you tell him. He's a sweet man. All of these reviews about him being weird or creepy are totally FALSE. I am a 27 year old woman and he never once made me feel uncomfortable. He is a professional, a little old school but amazing nonetheless. I want him to deliver my babies once I have them in the future. I put my full trust in Dr. Porter. read more

Dr Porter is one of the most awesome doctors I know. He's experience and knowledge is unparalleled. No matter what he is always on YOUR side and has YOUR interest in mind, which I cannot say about every doctor out there. He's very wise and lots of fun too. He always has a fun story to tell during the visit and at the end of the visit. Always fun to be around him and feel secure with his experience. read more

Dr. Porter is an amazing doctor. I had both of my kids with him, and he did a great job both times. I felt that I was taking care of and had full confidence that both me and my child were in great hands. His staff was always attentive and respectful, especially Rada, she was always on top of everything. Thank you Dr. Porter and the staff for everything. read more

Dr. Porter is very knowledgeable with great chair side manners. I had a high risk pregnancy which included severe Hyperemesis and anemia. When time came to deliver my first born, complication arose leading to emergency C-Section. Rada stayed on top of the progress, communicated with the hospital, handed over Dr's orders to keep my child and myself safe. Dr. Porter dropped everything, rushed to the hospital and performed an emergency C-Section. He did a great job and I am very thankful to him for his great care and dedication. I highly recommend Dr. Porter and his staff !!! read more

After reading all the negative reviews, I guess many people do not know Dr. Porter very well. He will be delivering my third child in a few days and I don't get offended by his comments, because it's true what he says. He could say things differently, but that's just who he is , straightforward. I've never had an issue with him. He's one of a kind so I took advantage to go back to him. YOU ROCK DR PORTER!!! read more

One of the best doctors I've ever met. Thank you Dr. Porter for being such an amazing soul.

Dr. Porter is the BEST OBGYN. I am currently seeing him and he will be deliver my second baby. The office staff is really nice and helpful. They are accommodating and flexible. Dr Porter can can be a little strict when it comes to diet and exercise but only because he wants you to be healthy for yourself and of course for you baby. He always makes you comfortable and laugh. He is very experienced and knows what he is doing. He is a great story teller and will always keep you comfortable. If you have any concerns or questions he will answer them for you. read more

I love Dr. Porter and his staff! They have been so helpful and caring to me since I found them online when I first was looking for a great prenatal physician. He is so experienced and had a good reputation so I was thrilled to be under his care. He makes you feel comfortable and is full of jokes, such a lovely man. I have no complaints and I feel very blessed to have him in my insurance network, a real gem! read more

Dr. Porter was my OBGYN while I was pregnant with my twin girls and he delivered them via cesarian because Baby A was breech and it was the safest option for all of us. This was my first pregnancy and was very nervous, but he was reassuring when appropriate but also matter-of-fact. He's been practicing for a VERY long time so he has a pretty traditional approach, but he has delivered thousands of babies. Under his care I carried my twins to full term and they were/are big, healthy babies. I never had problems getting an appointment and his office is open every other Saturday which was really convenient. The office is small but I never had to deal with long wait times. He has a quirky sense of humor that isn't for everyone, but most of the time I found it endearing. He'll also tell you the same stories every visit - I always reacted like I was hearing it for the first time. read more

Awesome experience with Dr. Samuel Porter and his whole staff. He is very professional, kind, and has an amazing personality. Right when you walk in, you can see the office wall being filled up with cards and photos from patients. I have never seen any other doctors do that before. It just gave a nice cozy feeling. If you meet him in person, you can tell he genuinely cares about you. I honestly would come back to him if I was to have another child in the future. I miss hearing all the funny, heartwarming, and interesting stories that he had to share during the visits. Thank you for everything! read more

Unprofessional & creepy. Asked me to pull down my mask to "see my whole face so he can recognize me." Unsafe, unsanitary & unprofessional. Then pointed to his family tree photos on the wall and asked if I "recognized the handsome young man" that was him. Made up an excuse to leave before having an exam because I was so uncomfortable. Do not go here. read more

Dr Porter is terrifying. During my exam he compared me to a pre-pubescent girl and talked about taking a girls virginity during my exam. I am a 31 year old woman. He winked at me during my exam and insisted on unhooking my bra. I felt violated and extremely uncomfortable. He prescribed a medication (antibiotic) for me and I had extremely bad side effects a few days later. I called his after-hours line on a Saturday night at 8pm and he was the on-call Doctor. He never even asked me what medication he prescribed, he didn't know who I was, he was incoherent, yelled at me that I was "high risk" because "I take too many medications" when I actually am not taking any other medications. He was extremely rude, telling me to go to the Cedars Sinai ER that he doesn't want to see me as a patient anymore and that he can't help me. This man should not be practicing medicine. Terrifying for any woman. read more

I just left Dr. Porters office and I am mortified. I left out sobbing because the experience was so bad. I have a history of developing Bartholins cysts (a cyst on the labia of the vagina) which I have to have drained. I've had 4 prior to this one and they have all been lanced and drained the same way. Today was a completely different story. Dr. Porter decided that it was better to use a medical machine that burns through the skin to create a hole so that the cyst can drain freely, I agreed to this. Upon getting on the operating table I was numbed with general anesthesia and he began to operate. After a while I asked if he was creating a hole on the inside of my labia, he hushed me about the question and I let him proceed. Then it started getting very very painful, even under the anesthesia and at this point I'm crying wondering what is going on and he is just shoving my legs open. He keeps telling me to open my legs but I'm screaming that he's hurting me. He keeps saying that there is no "pus" coming out of the incision. I had been trying to tell him, for a while now, that the outer labia is what's usually lanced. Finally he listens, numbs that part, and begins burning the skin (again) in hopes to drain it. While this was ALSO painful the cyst was drained. He rushed me to sit up afterwards, even after I told him I needed time to lay down after that horrible experience. He kept trying to reassure me that I should "feel better now" but I just felt completely horrified and violated. I now have two holes on the labia of my vagina. PLEASE DO NOT GO TO THIS DOCTOR. He does not care about your input or about YOUR OWN BODY. read more

It has been almost 42 years since Dr. Sam did a C section on me and gave me my second son! This man is the most amazing OBGYN EVER! I remember working at Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital and seeing this Doctor with such a great big smile all of the time and I asked a friend, what kind of doctor is this guy? She said and OBGYN, it just happened I was pregnant! I am so privileged to have had Dr Sam deliver my little Redheaded boy. I have not seen Dr Sam since but I really need to thank him for such a loving and kind pregnancy and delivery! When I asked him why the Big Smile? He said every Birth is such a miracle! Nothing more needs to be said! Hugs Dr Sam! Thank you for my Boy! His name is Tim! read more

Samuel J. Porter, MD - Obstetricians & Gynecologists Near Me - Los Angeles, California

Very bad doctor, I would not recommend anyone to see him. Completely inattentive and rude. In case of an emergency, he gave me his personal number if something happened over the weekend. I had an attack of urticaria and allergies during pregnancy, and in such a situation, he told me that he would not help and that I should go to emergency. He didn't even listen to being rude, she told me not to call again and to go to the office on a working day. I had to call my previous out-of-state doctor for help. The solution was very simple just an allergy pill. read more

Dr Porter is a part of the in-network for my insurance, Anthem Blue Cross, and I also read the yelp reviews before visiting his office. I am happy to say that the reviews are very accurate! I went in for an annual exam and everything was great! I was a little late to the appointment, but the receptionist was very understanding and told me it was absolutely no problem. I filled out paperwork when I got there and was seen within 10 min. At first glance, the doctor seems a little intimidating, and he is a little rough around the edges. But once he sits down with you, you'll notice that he's very thorough with questions and has very dry humor. haha He's very professional and will take you step by step through everything. The nurse/receptionist was very kind and helpful, very professional as well! I will definitely be going back in the future. read more

I had my first appointment at Dr. Porter's office. My experience was generally positive but there were a few things that stuck out to me. First of all, the office is tiny. I almost hit someone's knee when I opened the door. He was waiting for his wife. The receptionist was incredibly nice and walked me through the paperwork I needed to sign. After giving a urine sample, Dr. Porter sat me down in his office to go over my medical history. Then we went into the exam room where he did a quick pap smear. It was one of the least painful paps I've ever had! Something I thought was odd was he kept calling his receptionist "my girl". As in "my girl is going to come in and help me with the pap..." And "my girl will schedule the ultrasound for you." I know he's a bit older and a very sweet gentleman but I thought it to be odd. The STRANGEST thing was after my pap I noticed the metal speculum used during my exam was just laying there in the sink.. REALLY?! Soooo every other gynecologist I've seen recently have used disposable plastic speculums... I don't know, it just grossed me out to see it laying there in the sink. I'm curious to see what my next appointment will be like. I do like the doctor and his receptionist... The office is just really off putting and outdated. read more

One of the best doctors I have seen in LA. professional, smart and great sense of humor. Saved my son's life 20 years ago.

I was a bit worried after I read some negative reviews at Yelp. However, everything went good! Doctor Samuel is a nice old man. He was respectful and friendly. He mentioned a couple facts about him moving to America and asked about my story since I'm Russian. He assured me that procedure was painless and he was right. What else can I expect? The receptionist Natalia is very sweet and helpful. read more

Dr Porter is a great Dr. he is old and funny. I was very comfortable since day 1. I saw different doctors and my experience was horrible with other doctors. But then I found Dr Porter and I was really happy. He speaks Spanish too so that's was a plus for my husband :) I had my baby at Cedars's so that was amazing. I really don't care if the office is old or tiny, I care about the efficiency. Oh and Natalia the receptionist is awesome, she helped me a lot. Thank You so much I will be seeing you soon! :) read more

32 weeks with no doctor because I moved here 2 weeks ago . Literally kicked me out because I've been taking aspirin prescribed by my OBGYN in my hometown . Didn't let me explain why I was on aspirin . Just open the door and threw me out and said he can't see me without reviewing my medical records as to why I've been put on baby aspirin. read more

I moved to Los Angeles 5 years ago and struggled with finding an OB-GYN who could even come close to my OB-GYN in my hometown of Hawaii. I had seen two different physicians, one of them being part of the UCLA team, but neither had met my expectations. Upon my first visit with Dr. Porter, I immediately connected with him and his friendly staff. There is never a long wait and really puts his patients first, and as a registered nurse I totally appreciate that quality in a physician. I am currently pregnant with my first baby and he always seems to be available even after hours. He also encourages phone calls no matter what time of day as he says it's better to be informed to be on the safe side. My husband and I are confident that Dr. Porter will make the birth of our baby a great experience for all of us. read more

Love dr. Porter, it's gonna be my second baby and he is still my OBGyn. He's honest and caring. I love the ladies over the counter, they're very sweet and really above and beyond service. Will definitely recommend him! read more

Please do not go here. Pay attention to the negative reviews and save yourself the trouble. When I cried because of pain he said "big girls don't cry", I don't know if he was calling me fat or just saying that I was too old to cry from pain. Also, he told me two stories of people who died because of mistakes other doctors had made during the procedure. Literally the worst thing you could say to someone as they are worried and in pain. I don't know if he's a good doctor or not, but the bedside manner was truly atrocious. read more

Dr. Porter was a nightmare for me! He told me I was fat on a constant basis. He told me, "you're husband doesn't want a fat wife." I would leave his office in tears. He was rude to me at every appt. I didn't change doctors because I of issues with my medical insurance. I hope this man stops practicing soon. read more

Excellent doctor! Thank God I found this place. Going to the gynecologist is not the easiest thing, but if you find such a great doctor as Samuel J Porter, then you don't mind going at all because every time is a great experience and him and his staff make you feel comfortable. He answers all your questions, cares about you and talks to you throughout the whole process so you know whats coming next and you feel comfortable about it! 100% recommended! read more

I was really presently surprised. I 've been several times and each time is great. There was no waiting, and they can get you in in the same week you call. Just really really nice people. I didn't have alot of cash to pay for the parking ( this was before I knew it was very little) and the Dr. walked down with me to speak to the attendants. He was very helpful in helping me understand all of my questions. He was very personable and that is something that I haven't had in a doctor in a very long time. Its nice to know that there are those that are out there to help, for the sake of helping. read more

I would never go to anyone else. He has delivered my four children ages 18 months to 17 years now. I hear stories from friends how when they went into labor their doctor was on vacation. It seems like this man never vacations. His number one priority is his patients. I live in Palmdale now and would travel to his office for all my doctors appointments. I would rather give birth on the freeway then go to another ob/gyn. read more

I always get a little nervous about gyno appointments, and I have never had a doctor act insulted and annoyed about my slightly quavering voice and body before Dr. Porter. He kept telling me that he wasn't going to hurt me; I had to keep assuring him like "it's not you, it's me." Additionally, it was one of the more painful gyno appointments I've ever had. When I called him to check on pap results, he told me it was abnormal and that I'd need surgery but "would still be able to have children." When I pressed him for more details, he didn't tell me and acted patronizing, just telling me to schedule an appointment. I went to a different gyno, who told me what I had, that it was very minor, and that I didn't need surgery. It seems like others have had good experiences with Dr. Porter, but if you are young and/or get nervous about this kind of appointment, I would strongly recommend against him. read more

I didn't get the personable experience Elizabeth mentioned and frankly it's 5 weeks til my due date and I wish I could switch doctors. I went to the ER last wednesday where he said he would meet me, he never came. It was discovered I have a pinched nerve or another time of muscle issue going on so I am in constant unbearable pain. Hospital gave me Vicodin and said to call dr. porter next day. I knew it would be a pointless follow up but I still did as I was instructed. All he said was "you'll be fine drink a lot of water." I can't say how awful it is to be in physical pain and be dismissed in such a way. I have to say though the only upside is he is very prompt and the front desk girls are super nice and helpful. Bottom line: I had to do my own research as to what I can do to help myself and I am seeing an acupuncturist who specializes in pregnancy to help with the pain. Oh well. read more

Dr. Porter is top notch, he went out of his way time and time again to make sure my wife and I were comfortable and taken care of throughout the entire pregnancy process. We actually had our health-care changed mid pregnancy because of work and Dr. Porter made sure we were able to stay with him [our request of course]. Once you get to know him you couldn't think of trusting anyone else to deliver your baby. Thank you Dr. Porter and his entire staff for that matter, everyone was the best. read more

Dr. Porter is so nice and helpful. Thank God I was referred to this doctor. His receptionist is super nice too. The clinic was empty (good thing) they took my in right away. Dr.Porter is a hilarious old man full of life advise! His assistant is nice and personable. Very professional service!

Dr.porter delivered my child almost 5 years ago and honestly I would recommend him to any expecting mom! His sense of humor and no bullshit type of bedside manners is definitely needed when you are worrying about every kick, every morning sickness, etc! Loved him!! read more

I am close to my due date, I started going to Dr. Porter when I was about 4 months Pregnant because I was very unhappy with "Kaiser". I wanted to deal with one person instead of being tossed around from one person to another. Dr. Porter delivered and not to mention his receptionist, both are awesome! I am so happy I choose Dr. Porter to be my doctor in this important part of my life! :) The only thing I would say is that he needs new sofas in his waiting area, maybe a little upgrade to make his office look a little more nicer for the patients. read more

Appalling doctor. I am 22 weeks pregnant and due to losing my health insurance, needed to find a new ob/gyn. I went to see Dr Porter and after reading the reviews was very excited to find a doctor that was so good. I had had a scan the previous day that had diagnosed me with partial placenta previa and was feeling very worried about it. After keeping me waiting for 40 mins he took me into his office and proceeded to spend 15 minutes telling me a story about how he fell and hurt his leg while walking his dog. Then he took my history and then laughed as he told me that I was too much trouble for him and he didnt need the hassle aged 72. As I had read about his 'sense of humor' I figured he had to be joking. But then he told me he was serious!!! I just couldn't believe it and left the office in tears. So I guess he's only a great doctor as long as there is nothing wrong with you. Not really the idea behind a doctor. Worst doctor ever. read more

All I can say is to reconsider your options with this one, please do some major research. His offices and the rooms haven't been updated and he uses a lot of old school techniques. I had a procedure go WRONG with him and it was one of the worst times of my life. read more

This Dr, is by far the worst i have ever came across!!!! He is so unprofessional. He is only nice when you don't ask any questions, once you have questions or concerns its like a flipping a switch. He yelled at me and brought me to tears, told me that he wont drive 30 minutes away to deliver a baby and he prefers to have his friend deliver for him. Further, he is very unorganized and outdated, on several occasions he mixed up my chart with other patients and then yelled at me that i had the wrong due date. More over he is very forgetful and repetitive, i had to hear the same story over and over again, on every visit. HE presented the results of my blood test on three different occasions, when i told him we already went over it he, yelled at me for correcting him. I am very concerned that he is loosing his mental capacity and it is dangerous for a man in his unstable state of mind to deliver babies. Some Dr.s are to stubborn or greedy to retire until someone gets hurt!!!! read more
