I love the vegan Neapolitan cupcakes from Rubicon bakers, for example--not only is the frosting delicious these chocolatey small cakes have a filling which reminds me of the (not as healthy) classic Hostess cupcakes. The eggless egg salad wraps from the deli are also good. Other favorite products are the almond chocolate pudding and the Virginia honey roasted peanuts. I don't do my regular shopping here but love to stop in when I'm in the downtown Rockville area. There is a convenient parking lot and garage spaces dedicated to the store, always a plus. There is a small salad bar which looked well-maintained when I was last there (but did not try) and a coffee and juice bar (the latter I've only found so-so--my açaí bowl from a visit months ago wasn't good, but I've heard the chai is tasty). I think there are wine and cheese events also held at the coffee bar seating area. I love the small book section although I've not browsed there yet, The only thing I've found not consistently great is service at the cash register. Mostly the cashiers have been friendly but occasionally we'll get the few who don't seem to want to be there... Recommended for a visit at least once...!

The Wal Mart for drinkers of all types. You like beer? They have a solid selection of big box beer…read moreas well as a solid selection of craft brews. You like wine? They regularly do tasting on the weekend typically with a good range of types. You like spirits? This place is how I benchmark whether I am paying too much elsewhere. This first thing I look for at any other liquor store is, how much would this have been at corridor? I've been coming here for years aka since I became of age. They take underage drinkers that come in this store seriously, so if you have a young face be prepared. They also may give you a hard time if you come with your sibling who might be not 21 yet. They once gave me a hard time for standing in front of someone who looked young, so that was weird. I guess the moral of that short story, is this place is for "relative" grown ups who are at least 21. As you walk in the store you will find yourself at the beginning of the wine section, to your left will be the beer and to the far right are two aisle that have the hard spirits. Ready, set, go. All the prices I've seen are on par with the cheapest I've found as far as the spirits go. The wine selection is massive however my prowess as a wine drinker is fairly amateur so I'll leave that to the corridor wine experts. The prices on craft beers are pretty much what you would expect, craft brew= higher price. They do have good prices on big box beer but I can't honestly tell you the last time I bought a 38 pack of any light lagers. I typically stick to the MD craft brews, always good to support good ol' MD. They also have all the bar supplies but the prices I've seen on red solo cups, ping pong balls, bottle openers, etc are a little bit high. It's good if you forgot the pick up something but you'll pay a little more. It's a good thing you saved money on all the liquor right??? Forgot to mention they also have cigars, also a rookie in that field though so no comment on selection or pricing.

The good, the bad, and the ugly: the good are the prices. The prices are great, not getting around that fact. The bad is the selection. They have very limited selection and most of it is brands, I have never heard of. So, when I went to look for yogurt, there was one or two brands and neither of those were Greek yogurt. I walked around the store for a few minutes and no one offered their help or asked if I needed any help or service. So, I found them lacking in employees. Lastly, it is just the ambiance. It reminds me of a big box store. It is not well organized or maybe it is just not my cup of tea. Now, to be fair, it could be this particular Aldi, but I just think it is a no frills shopping grocery store. And, I need some of those extras when I go shopping. Sorry, Aldi, we were just not meant for each other.

First, the fresh fruit section was small and the fruit was very expensive. So, I deducted a star. But, the store itself was pretty large. I did buy some strawberries and bananas. The surprises came in the ready to eat section. There was a ton of homemade soups, which looked delicious. I thought the prepared salads also looked really tasty. I ended up leaving with a Greek salad, which was fresh and delicious. Lots of feta cheese, lettuce, red peppers, olives and Greek dressing. Another, pleasant surprise was the bread section. There were a lot of freshly made breads. I bought a sourdough bread that was really good. It was hard to choose from the many different selections. The vegetable selections were plentiful and looked really nice. The service was excellent. I was checked out in a jiffy. My grocery helper was so nice and accommodating. The store was clean and well organized. I am sure the quality of food is higher, than a regular supermarket. I would probably return for the prepared foods and breads. But, the cost is pretty high. So, shop carefully.

Prices are typical for convenience stores of this type (e.g., Wawa, High's, 7-11, etc.) BAD: Precooked breakfast foods are horrible. They sell OUT OF DATE prepackaged foods (e.g., Tastykakes, donuts, etc.) so buyer beware. This is also illegal. On 29 August 2012, I bought two Tastykake lemon pies with dates of 27 August 2012. All the Tastykake pies were out-of-date as were several bags of Hostess donuts. The clerk assured me that they would be fresh but when I got home, the first lemon pie appeared to have mold between the crust and the filling. I hope they fix this issue before the state fines them or shuts them down because it is a nice store for the most part.
