I don't go to Sam's Club often as I only go when my sister is in town and has a membership. I can say I do like the scan and pay feature so you don't have to wait in line to cash out. I do feel there needs to be another person at the exit when we went there was only 1 person and quite the line to get out. I do like the selection they have however sometimes the produce can be iffy. I'm reluctantly a member at Sam's only because there's some things they have that I can't find at Costco and price wise it works out better than going to regular stores. For the first time I tried their snack bar, which until recently was a must stop at Costco. Both offer the same price for a hot dog and drink, $1.50. They both have pizza and ice cream too. The hot dog at Costco tastes a little better than Sam's and is bigger, almost too big. Sam's has Pepsi, which Coscto no longer offers. They switched back to Coke. Boo!! Another bonus for Sam's is Dr Pepper at the fountain too, but no diet Mtn Dew and the cup size is a bit larger than Costco's is. At both places if you ask for onions for the hot dog when ordering they offer a small container for free. Costco has self serve condiment containers and Sam's has theirs in individual packets. Sam's also has a cutlery dispenser and they're recyclable. So there you have it. A review of the snack bar! read more

This Sams Club is just fine. I probably wouldn't go here alone after dark but during daytime hours it is just fine and safe. Lots of samples. I rarely leave without getting everything on my list. Of course those impulse buys always get me ! Sometimes you just gotta try something new. Ordered tires and a week later still waiting to be installed. They double booked me so had to reschedule and then the tire shop went down so once again no tires installed and on top of that the tire shop has no phone apparently that is on the fritz as well. Sam's is Sam's, pretty much wherever you go, and this one is fine. Just different. I always use Quick Scan, and I only went in for two pastry trays for the convention I'm attending in Raleigh. For some reason, the items scanned, but then I had to go to a self checkout to complete the transaction. Weird. Maybe it was because I was out of town....but I live in same state. [Insert shoulder shrug here.] The bakery items all look fantastic as always, and the baker was doing her thing behind the window. At my home club, you can't see the actual bakery, so that was a pretty cool difference. I think this may be one of the original clubs or something. First time visiting this club. I found the prices very affordable and the selection is really close to Costco and Bjs but the prices I noticed slightly lower. The store is large and layed out well, I didn't feel overwhelmed as I do sometimes when I enter a large store. I really liked how they organized the sections of produce and cold items. Everything was easy to find. The coolest perk they have (my friend used) is that you can scan all of your items on the app then go to self pay with the list and check out. You avoid scanning at checkout and or being in a line. This was very smooth and efficient. I picked up a pre-made salad kit so I'm looking forward to trying this. read more

Only two cashiers and 8 or more self checkouts. Lines backed up in the aisles. This is madness. Take a hint from Costco and employ more humans during the holidays to combat the rush of customers that you have. Even if you did scan and go, the line waiting to exit was backed up past the hot food section. Just poor management and staffing all around. I've purchased several car batteries over the years from Sam's Club. Unfortunately, two months ago, it wasn't easy for the Durham staff to find the Rocky Mount receipts online because we switched back and forth under different accounts with new promotion offers. I was sincerely tested, disappointed, and frustrated with one disrespectful agent (Bryan?) who stood against me and continued obstinately and belligerently when I attempted to trade in one failed battery under warranty. San Antonio was the gentleman who made all the difference in redeeming the situation and salvaging my interest in remaining a Sam's Club member. I later found the applicable receipt myself (online) and additional receipts for other car battery purchases. The failed policies, poor electronic synchronization, and mentally unstable staff may send droves of dissatisfied customers to the proficiently competitive Costco in perpetuity, which unfortunately cannot compete otherwise, simply because they have too few shopping locations. I want to compliment the staff at Sam's Club in Durham, NC. I visited with Reggie who is a manager there and he was surrounded by his employees. They all had great attitudes and were genuinely friendly and helpful when I asked for help finding batteries. It was obvious that Reggie had a positive rapport with his crew. One of them walked with me to the section where I could find the item, even though I told him he didn't need to. They all went above and beyond to help me. I also want to compliment Kia at checkout. She was also cheerful and efficient. Every time I come to this store I'm impressed with the graciousness of the staff. I also like the variety in products. I belong to another large discount chain and I never thought I could find a store better than that one, but this Sam's Club Is just as good and possibly even better because of the customer service. I was having a super hard time in sam's in the clothing section and out of the corner of my eye I saw a this pretty hispanic girl in a bunch of gold chains Folding a bunch of clothes. i asked for her name and she said it was Angelina, She was the nicest worker ever, I told her how I was struggling to find some jeans for my boyfriend and i did not know his size and she was actually really helpful because i would say im super indecisive and she really helped me pick out the best pair of jeans for him. But turns out they didn't fit but the second time i came in to return to jeans I saw her again working hard at folding clothes and basically explained how they didn't fit him correctly and she recommended me a different size for him and it actually fit. I went in to buy Yard soil that was on sale. Sams was out of stock. It's the beginning of the growing season in NC. It's poor management not to have an adequate suppy of this prodouct for members. Manager told me that " it's first come first serve". I expected better from Sams. They could at least offer a rain check. As soon as I walked in the door I was asked for my Sam's card. There were 10 people trying to get in the door behind me, including one family with kids who were clearly harassing my service dog. I'm not sure I will renew if I have to pull that out every time I go in. Ridiculous. You have to have it to check out anyway... Do not use the optical department! I paid over $400 for glasses and they were cut wrong and blurry and the worker tried to get me to have my prescription changed to match the messed up glasses. When I insisted they redo the glasses they said well we will only redo them once...I said well this was your mess up- not mine. They again tried to convince me it was my prescription before actually measuring the glasses and realizing they were cut wrong. I just said give me a refund- what a hassle! Avoid!!!! read more

Do not use the Tire and Battery service department. I went on Saturday with just my tire on the rim off of my car to get the flat tire replaced. Unfortunately, after I returned home and put that tire on, I realized that another tire on my car was also damaged. I took that tire off and up there just as I did the other tire. I had not driven the car any since Saturday, so the tires were at the same tread. I ended up paying $50 more for the second tire replacement even though it was the exact same. When I asked "why?'" JON the manager stated there was a "glitch" in the system. I stated that that really didn't seem like a great reason for me to have to spend more money. I was then asked, "did I want the tire or not". It also took 2 hours to get a tire placed on a rim. read more

Awful service in the tire shop. They told me they would notify me when my tires were in via email and a call. Never got an email. They called and immediately called back but they didn't answer. I tried several times through the day and they just never answered. Went to have the tires put on and the guy made a smart ass comment about how if I would have answered his call he could have got me in that week. Well, sorry but I was in meeting and I tried to call back several times including just minutes after they called. Also when ordering the tires I was told I could bring my own sensors as they didn't know when they would get any more in. Well, that was wrong. They refused to install the new sensors I ordered on Amazon too. Bottom line is the service is really poor. A solid reminder why I love the small tire shops where they have great service. read more

This place stays pretty busy even on the oddest times of the day. I would like to recommend coming here towards the end of business hours on a Saturday. Its typically pretty empty them. I'm a fan of their protein section, deodorant, and produce section! Its nice to come here during the weekend when they have multiple stands to sample different food and drinks! read more

That would be a understanding of what good customer service is and isn't. I joined during their SUPERBOWL promo. The service person told me my bonus coupons would be mailed to me. He was obviously new and had no clue. Went back last week to get my bonuses, I got my free pizza and cookies, the other three items would have been discounted had I redeemed those within 30 days from joining. Then when they produced that promotional ad for all of us to examine, there was no expiration date whatsoever. If you want to join a club that cares about it's clients I suggest COSTCO. I've been standing here for over 60 minutes waiting for flooring that I paid for yesterday to be found & moved to the loading dock. I was told it would be ready for me to pick up last night, but now, no one seems to know where the flooring is. Horrible customer service! They have plenty of self checkout lines and they also support the scan and go app. I always liked the food court at sams clubs, and I'll admit this is one of the better food courts. I have been a Sam's loyal customer for over 20 years and have seen a steep decline in customer service and the way they treat members. Yesterday was no different and I was so incredibly frustrated and willing to take my business elsewhere. It's sad that organizations do not spend more attention and time taking care of their existing customer. After my horrible experience at CS I told them to keep the TV. Pissed and went shopping. I went to use the ladies and peeked in the office to find a very helpful manager named Drew. I explained what happened and told him from now on I will be purchasing my electronics somewhere else. He got up and we went to see the CS manager, the other store manager and he took a hard line on how important the members are and he made it right. The store by itself is just another Sam's club location. What makes it stand out is the bad service and the repeated instances of employees not being helpful. Self-checkout registers are continuously closed because employees monitoring say they can't keep up with all of them open, but are repeatedly on their phones, paying little attention to what's going on. Exit clerks and other staff do a great job. Management must be ok with huge lines as this happens every time we're here. read more

I think this as equivalent to Walmart -- and I refuse to shop at Walmart! (This is walmarts sister company) Yes it has food at bulk prices, cheap-- but if I were to compare this to Costco-- it definitely does not meet that level of quality when it comes to fresh produce. However it does its job by supplying bulk stuff for your household needs. So, I had come here to shop a bit, my foot has been broken and I need to lay off of it, so I had utilized the electric carts. They have one so that's a plus! Cons: despite being on charge and off when I found it, it died on me in 10 minutes! While it was about to die, I ran into one of the managers there, I got his attention and told him that my cart is dying, can someone help me out? He said you'll make it to the front, if not when I swing back around I'll help you out! That was so rude! I'm on an electric cart-- the cart is moving slower than a tortoise, and you don't have the decency to help me? Another customer who heard the conversation was like, " I can help you!" And I was so embarrassed, that I didn't want to ask for help! So then, I start to struggle to make it to the front, my ride is on the verge of dying when all of the sudden this amazing couple with a baby, go outside find me another cart, transfer all my stuff and get me into the other cart! What?!? Then I ring up all my stuff and realized that I grabbed the wrong water flavor! (My bad) the cashier asked another manager there if he could grab the correct kind-- he says yes, but for 15 minutes he just stand around and does nothing. Anyhow, I finally got my drinks exchanged and I asked the manager if someone could help load my car. He said sure and walked off and disappeared again. I am really upset, bought Nintendo Switch bundle from Sam's Club , Dec24 ,2019, Looked like a great deal and bought for my spouse to take to military base where he works so he can play with friends. Even took pics of him holding with a smile. To my surprise when he unpacks and starts to follow instructions to operate switch, we notice that the actual console is not new, is has scratches and the actual screen has a tiny hole in it, WTF!! Payed full price for this and is not new, as well as I was embarrassed to see my hubby so excited about his supposed new switch and he couldn't even take with him, and it was his Christmas gift!!, nowcuz now I have to go and solve the issue. This Sam's Club is in the same lot as a Super Target (which has a better selection, no yearly membership, and doesn't have that warehouse feel). The choice seems clear. BUT, livingsocial was running a membership deal, so we signed up to try it out. I thought I was going to be starry-eyed at all the crazy low prices (that's why you buy in bulk, right?). Instead, we were met with a bit of a bumbler at member services (my photo appears on both my card and my boyfriend's), and a manager who he was quite snippy with. As we walked through the aisles, I kept saying, "well, this is the same price at Target...and I don't have to buy a month's supply of it." If you own a small restaurant or a catering service, sure, this place is a slam dunk. Throw that 250 pack of styrofoam take-out boxes into your cart and you're golden. But for me and my boyfriend, we'll be back in the land of Target, where we'll put our $45 membership savings towards some adorable knick-knacks that we never knew we needed (but now MUST HAVE). First off, let me say that you need a membership card to go (and you have to use it again to check out) so, if you are like me and seem to misplace everything... it could potentially turn into a stressful trip! Good news: If you forget / misplace your card, you can go to the membership counter and they will get you a pass. Overall this location is pretty good. The parking is nice since there are no other stores sharing the lot. They have an attached gas station for members to use but I must say... it is hit or miss with being the "best price in town." I typically go here to buy freezer good and food we need in bulk. The prices seem to be competitive for most of the bulk items. Also, if you like to browse, sometimes you can find a hidden gem in the books, clothes and holiday sections. My husband loves when we have to stop in because they have a super cheap snack bar. He can get a hotdog and drink for around $1.50 or a huge slice of pizza. This is a big plus so I can browse longer! read more

Real talk - I'm a Sam's Club convert! Yes, the Super Target is right next door and probably has a similar/more expansive selection, but what makes this membership worth it is the GAS PRICE. Their gas runs for a solid 20cents/gallon lower than nearby gas stations; even Kroger is no where near as affordable. Gas at this Sam's Club was even 15 cents/gallon cheaper than the Sam's Club in Raleigh. I've recently moved into a new apartment, and in the process have found great products here - super comfy Serta pillows $10 for 2, super soft memory foam bath mats, that are priced well below comparable items at other retailers. Make sure you google for Sam's Club membership deals before you purchase the membership - there's often groupon or living social deals that can get you the membership for about half the price. Seeing as how I load up on fruits and veggies from here almost weekly, I suppose this Sam's Club is a good candidate for my first non-restaurant review. Of course, you're out of luck if you don't have a membership, which runs something like $45 a year maybe (you get 1 extra card per membership for a family member and I coaxed mine out of my mom). The price should justify itself if you don't mind a bit of bulk shopping, but you need a good sense of market value for the items on your list. Many things can be cheaper, pound for pound, when they go on sale at your grocery store. My go-to items are baby spinach and broccoli florets, which tend to be way cheaper than you'll find anywhere, even on sale. They also have tons of free food samples on weekends, which can turn into a mini-meal if you try it all. One recent glorious day, they sampled all of their fresh baked pies, and naturally, I tried about 5 of them. Amazing.. and for less than $6, I took home the biggest pumpkin pie I've ever seen. Their cafe has your basic pizza and hot dogs, and I usually can't resist getting their pizza combo for like $2.49, which comes with a gimongous slice of your choice of pizza (including supreme or meat lovers) plus a 7-eleven sized fountain drink with unlimited refills. Generously sized, generously topped, and very tasty, it'll stand against any of the local pizza joint lunch deals. One day, I plan to take down an entire pizza on my own (for less than $9), but on a normal non-gluttonous day, 2 slices will tide over even my giant appetite. They occasionally have open days to the public. If you find yourself spending loads on groceries every week for the family, you may want to check out Sam's club (or any of the whole sale places in town) next time. read more
