Thoughtful & kind customer service- from entrance to exit. Availability of power scooters is a must for accessible accommodation for my husband & myself- This warehouse style location is loaded with all kinds of goodies. I like the men & women sock bundles- lots of bulk household and food selections- eye glasses and eye care - bakery - a freezing room for cold foods( may need your coatspectacular meat selection - I feel reasonable prices for numerous items- I like to take my time & shop around to get the the items needed for the best value and consideration of time. Pharmacy service is available- the team is professional & courteous- maybe a wait line - but several meds are offered at very reasonable prices. This location is conveniently located off the I 85 corridor- past by and situated at a Mac Donald's- Verizon- accommodations- nail salon & many other customer shopping experiences. To me- coming off the interstate and a couple of short turns makes this a prime location & there is usually a line at the gas pump but well worth the price per gallon in this area

I normally enjoy shopping at Costco, however I experienced something extremely frustrating on my way out this evening. This happened around 5:50pm 6/30. I was behind my friend in line to have our receipts checked by an older woman on the left side of the door. My friend, who is Korean, began moving items in the shopping cart to make it easier for the woman checking to see everything since she had several clothing items stacked. The worker said in a very loud and rude tone "Ma'am excuse me!" to have her stop so she could count the items herself. I thought wow this lady is crabby. However, her demeanor completely changed when it was my turn, since I am white. She greeted me with a friendly tone opposite of how she had just spoken to my friend moments ago and asked me how I was doing. She looked at my receipt and said "Five items?" I said yes and held open my cloth bag and she said I was fine. Now mind you I had five pairs of leggings in my bag, four of which were black and all blended together. I could have very easily slipped a few extra pairs in or hid something underneath them. In that moment I didn't look like a 'thief' to that woman working so she didn't have to bother to check. This is not okay. The woman working is clearly racist, and I highly doubt this is the first time she has treated a customer like this.

A simple rotate of tires turned into a day of filling out an incident report. Always inspect your car b4 10/17/21

10/17/21 After Driving cross country and over 6,000 miles from California, to this side of the map, we pulled into this Costco to have our tires rotated. We were greeted by Chris in the tire shop. Everything was smooth until we went to pick our suburban up and noticed scratches and a big gouge on the passenger rear bumper. We asked for a manager but one of the guys decided to argue or debate the whole scene. He stated that the scratches were old and that it didn't happen there. We again asked for a manager. A manager by the name of Joe K., came out and went to work. Cris asked us to fill out an incident report. We will report back in a few days how this ends. For now, 5 stars for this tire shop and Joe for treating us right. The gentleman that told us the scratches were old needs to learn presentation. We were not there to argue. We just want to be treated with respect.

Senior Citizens Beware: Costco Primo Water Delivery is the worst!

Costco Primo Water Delivery: Seniors Beware! Senior Citizens Beware: When I ordered Primo water delivery at Costco in Durham, NC, the sales rep told me that the delivery would come in less than a week, and the delivery person would bring the heavy bottles and dispenser into my home and install it for me. I made a strong point that as a senior, I could not lift the bottles and the dispenser myself. No water or dispenser came on the delivery date set; when I called, I was told that it would take another week or more to deliver the water. So I cancelled the order and got a cancellation number. Two weeks later, a delivery person knocked on the door and quickly left. The dispenser and two bottles of water were left on my front porch. I have been told that when I call, it will take another week or so to come and pick up the items. Then, on the pickup day, no one showed; the excuse being that "we called and no one answered"! Yet they texted me before saying they would come, but there was no text before or on the actual pickup day, nor, to my knowledge, did they actually call. Mind you, dispensers and water bottles have been sitting on the porch exposed to the elements for almost two weeks now. Still, I was told to put in another pickup order, which I refused to do. It has been nearly a month now that I have been trying to get this resolved with Costco Pimo Water company... what really worries me is the fact that the water, when it is finally picked up, will be given to another consumer after it has been exposed to wild animals and the sun!

Update: Costco now has self check out lines and self order kiosks for food! This has greatly improved my experience by making everything so much faster. The self check out also accepts international cards without need for any special codes to be punched in (the cashiers have to type something special in and throw a fit if you don't tell them before they scan or swipe the card). Also, recently, the attendant on duty at the gas station has been much more easily visible and available. The tire center service is also great with fantastic pricing. The one downside again is that if you have an international card, sometimes the people at the counter make a big stink for no reason. I did manage to get my tires but not without lots of headache from the person on duty.

Move-in food (and plant) essentials. All this and a bit more cost over $200.

You can bring your own containers and use those, but they also have some extra glass jars if you forget. They have tea, spices, dry goods, bath and cleaning products, nuts, snacks, grains, etc. However, they don't have everything here, so don't expect to be able to do all your food shopping. For example, they don't really have fresh produce. I also don't think the prices are that bad!! The tea is a really good deal compared to other stores. Unlike a regular store, you can buy exactly the amount you need, which really helps cut down on the cost for certain items. I also really appreciate that they have inclusive employment practices and are affiliated with the Autism Support and Advocacy Center.

But getting to the back of the store to see those amazing rugs is only one piece of the adventure Nomadic Trading offers. You first have to walk through a collection of Oriental, Indian, Turkish art history of assorted items. All of them, the furniture, water jars, lamps, beads, etc. are striking -- simple, yet complex at the same time. The natural materials are a refreshing change from modern-day chemical-based creations. When you get to the back of the store, you'll see rugs in colors and patterns unlike any others. The blues and reds attracted my attention, but each of them is intriguing in its own way. The patterns and colors all had a story to tell. It's folk-art. If you're truly fortunate, you'll be able to listen to the owner play his drums - I think they're Dybbuk (I forgot to ask) -- to add to the ambience.

Brightleaf Square is a quaint retail development located in the center of the Brightleaf…read moreneighborhood in downtown Durham. I'd call it a "shopping center," but it's not like a typical suburban shopping center. The development consists of two repurposed brick warehouses, originally built in 1904, that used to store bright leaf tobacco (that's where the name comes from). So, Brightleaf Square looks and feels historic, and that's what makes it charming. That said, the development is kind of small and there's not that much here. If you want to walk across the street to, say, Rose's or Jeni's, then yes, the neighborhood (also known as the Brightleaf District) has more to offer. I highly recommend Rose's, by the way, for their ramen and ice cream sandwiches. Strictly speaking, within the square, Emmy Squared Pizza is terrific for their Detroit-style pizza. It's among the best deep-dish pizza anywhere, in my opinion. There's also Clouds Brewing, which is a craft brewery and restaurant. Other businesses are local/boutique shops, such as Bull City Art & Frame Company and Mill & Meadow Stationery Shop, and private offices. The brick/stone walkway, old-fashioned lamp posts, string lights, trees, benches, and early-1900s buildings can make for a fun, whimsical stroll with friends and family before or after lunch or dinner. It's also a good date spot, especially if you incorporate the larger neighborhood (e.g., pizza at Emmy Squared followed by ice cream sandwiches at Rose's). For parking, I suggest parking in the surface lot at the corner of W Main St and S Gregson St. You can enter the lot from either of those streets. Pay attention to signs as you may have to pay during certain days and times. Fun fact: Durham's infamous "Can Opener Bridge" is located on the south end of Brightleaf Square. If you don't know what I'm talking about, check out the bridge's Wikipedia page here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norfolk_Southern%E2%80%93Gregson_Street_Overpass Also, watch some of the videos on this YouTube channel to see the Can Opener in action: https://www.youtube.com/@11foot8plus8 The camera that captures those videos is mounted on one of the buildings at Brightleaf Square.
