TL;DR: Really effin good chowder, Maine lobster roll is friggen loaded, shrimp po'boy is awesome with the bun, OLD BAY FRIES
So, I'm not a New England clam chowder expert, but I've done a stint in Boston and, suffice it to say, I've been around a good chowder or two. The chowder that comes out of this truck is pretty on the money. Huge flavorful chunks of clam and a good creamy base to sop it in. Plus you get a pack of oyster crackers, so you know it's legit.
I went with a couple of coworkers for lunch when it strolled through town, so we were able to get a pretty good spread of things and get a real taste for the truck. Along with the fantastic new england clam chowder I got an order of calamari, which was pretty standard. Nothing to write home about, except for maybe the amount you get. a half pound doesn't sound like too much, but it's a hefty amount of chopped and fried squid. Plus it comes with a tartar and cocktail sauce, with a wedge of lemon, so squeeze that and dip pieces and enjoy the balls out of that.
One coworker got their Maine lobster roll. It's a pretty price sammich at $16, but the sheer amount of lobster meat you get is pretty ridiculous. It's good lobster too, like, Maine lobster. This isn't like, Brian's discount lobster meat emporium lobster. This stuff is delicious. And you get a ton of it. On a roll. That's equally as delicious. If you like lobster, order this. It also comes in a 'shortie' size, but it's still $11, so may as well go big (or go home).
Another coworker got the shrimp po' boy sandwich. The shrimp seemed pretty small and fried, but was still flavorful. What really did the sandwich for me was the bun. I'm not sure if the lobster roll uses the same bun (I didn't check, I was too distracted by all the LOBSTER MEAT), but the effin delicous spongy buttered toasted bun they use for the po' boy sandwiches are, like, poem worthy. They remind me of the buns I saw at Umami burger, except buttered. And full of shrimp. Also the po' boy comes with Old Bay fries, which is just fantastic. Old Bay is some damn good seasoning that those zany New Englanders got right, and when they put it on their fries, and you take those fries and dip it in their clam chowder, and then you take a little piece of the lobster meat and you hold it with the fry and then you put all of that into a calamari ring and then you dip that in tartar sauce and then you put that in your mouth?
Hot. Damn.
