Sam's American Easter Celebrating 20 Years of Hospitality, Community, and Resilience Owner - Jeannie Kim, she is amazing does everything by herself. Her team is the best, some have been with her over 15 years. We are so proud of you and will always support. Thank you for including us on such an memorable event. Prime rib. No flavor. No horseradish
Natalie M.

Ordered the prime rib sandwich with tater tots. Service was good and waiter was nice! I like how we sat outside too because they have an outdoor area. I was looking forward to my sandwich but it lacked flavor and wasn't hot at all. The rus was missing seasoning and my sandwich missed the horseradish sauce so I had to ask for that. How disappointing! Very dry. The bread was unremarkable. It was an ACME torpedo roll but maybe they should have used a different type of roll. I did see very minimal meat in my meal. Pretty disappointed. I'd explore other food options next time I'm here for a show or for a different occasion.

My friends and I came here before our show at the Orpheum Theater; it was within walking distance from the theater. The restaurant was a bit busy when we visited, so we had to put our names on the waitlist. The place was also small but clean. Unfortunately, the restaurant smelled unpleasant when we entered. We eventually just got used to it that we stopped noticing the smell. I ordered Pasta Bolognese. It was okay and slightly salty. The pasta was cooked just right, and the dish had a lot of meat. The portion was generous, and the price was reasonable. The service was okay, too. Our server was nice, but he was busy with his other tables that he forgot to check in on our table after he took our orders. Lastly, I appreciate that the restaurant incorporated the names of the shows playing at the Orpheum Theater on their menu items; it was witty and fun.

Darby's next door in a different venue. No supplies like ketchup, sugar, salt, pepper available. Had to be brought over from the main venue. Server was a bit judgmental when my wife asked for scrambled eggs on her Benedict. No refill on our coffees. No one asking if we needed anything or if the food was ok. No refill on our waters. Just sitting and waiting for someone to come back...

SAMS American Eatery is conveniently located right off of the BART Station as well as many performing arts theater. My friend made reservations at SAMS for a Friday night dinner. Easy check-in, great service, and speedy cooks, what more could I ask for?! The menu isn't too overwhelming with something for everyone. I opted for the steak, should've said rare but I asked for medium that looked more well. That's ok, still tasty. My friend devoured her burger. My favorites included the hummus and dessert. Low-key inside with a slight homey vibe. Clean restrooms. Would visit again before or after watching a show. Reservations are a must as I saw walk-ins getting turned away. #8/2026

"Spicy" Rose Pasta (not spicy at all, but still delicious)
Jennifer C.

Got the "Spicy" Rose Pasta (spicy in parenthesis because it was not hot...at all...). The noodles were fricken fantastic though - so fresh and perfectly cooked! The sauce was a standard pink sauce and was good, but don't be fooled; there's not a drop of Korean inspired flavor in this dish. That said, the noodles were good enough that I'd happily get it again and since I wasn't hungry, it was the perfect portion for me without the protein. Note that the day we came in was a Friday night before a show and they literally had ONE man working the entire front of the house - greeting, seating, taking orders, serving, busing, cleaning. At one point, he had 10+ tables and I felt stressed for him. We stil got out in decent time but don't come here if you're crunched for time unless they hire more staff. And if you do come and their short staffed, be nice to the workers!

Came before a show at Orpheum and enjoyed the experience again! Food was generally tasty and high quality but there was a bit of a wait on service, hence the small knock. But onto the food... I went with the Warriors burger, done medium and it was done just right! The burger was juicy and just pink in the middle. The bleu cheese added funk, the arugula added a peppery bite, and the fig jam was a sweet surprise. I upgraded my fries to the duck fat fries which were also very tasty. I only wish that I could have chosen the fry cut because I personally do not like steak fries. Of my friend's dishes, I only tried the rose pappardelle. The noodle I had was al dente and the sauce was unctuous. All the other plates, though I didn't try them, all looked good too. There were minor complaints on several of the fries though. The one served with the fish and chips were cold, the waffle sweet potato fries were definitely not waffled, and the truffle parm fries seemed to end up as garlic fries. All in all, glad I discovered SAMS a couple years ago and glad it still exists as an option today!

Made reservations a few days before & it was easy. I really liked the text reminder to confirm my Sat. reservation at 11:30am. Once I entered the restaurant, I could see how small the place was & so it could get crowded easily. Orders: Salmon Eggs Benedict: Perfectly cooked eggs Benedict that oozes out once cut. The salmon pieces were nicely laid on my English muffin. I also really enjoyed the salad. Whenever I see vegetables, I get excited that the meal is a well balanced plate. It is definitely a plate to re-order again. Loco Moco: This was my friend's order, so I could only give my visual opinion of the dish. It was a generous sized plate & looked very authentic to ones I've had in Hawaii. My friend devoured this dish, so I take it that it was not only satisfying but was delicious. Matcha Latte-consisted of an earthly aroma of matcha with steamed milk. Considering we weren't at a Matcha Cafe, it was enjoyable. Glad I was able to visit Sam's & have the convenience of walking over to The Orpheum right after my meal.

Came to eat here before a broadway show--loved how their menus are tied with what's showing!! This time it was related to Book of Mormon. Food was honestly pretty great, especially the rose pasta! Drinks were whatever in my opinion. Service was quite slow to be honest, but nevertheless a great spot to eat at before heading to the Orpheum Theater!

For some reason it shows no reservations available when reserving for same day on Yelp. So I called and made a reservation for 5:30pm on a weekday. When I arrived, there were many empty tables so it's not like they were booked up. It might be a glitch. On this particular day, September 24, there was a strong odor in the dining area, similar to sewage. It was very offputting, but we just put up with it. We had ordered the Korean fish tacos, and the beef bourginon. The fish tacos were very tasty and I would get this again. It was a big portion. Probably the biggest fish tacos I've ever had. As for the beef bourginon, it is by no means authentic. It resembles a Japanese curry without the curry so just the gravy. The beef and vegetables were cubed tiny. I couldn't taste any red wine in the gravy though. It was a comforting meal.

Came here with a group and got brunch! Good: - Solid mint coffee latte drink - super refreshing and adding the foam was unique - The loco moco was really hearty and the beef was extra tasty - Nice servers even though the wait was very long - Super cute and modern decor! Cute home-like ambiance and very clean - good double date location Bad: - We waited about an hour for our food - it seemed like they were too busy on the day that we arrived. - On the more expensive side Overall this was a cute find - would come again if they aren't understaffed.

Came here before a show. We came fairly early around 5 and it filled up fast after we arrived. Service was kind and attentive. We had the fried chicken sandwich with a ton of tater tots, meatloaf and a lava cake. Everything tasted yummy. Decorations were fun and festive. Good spot to come before a show.

Deviled eggs
Julian C.

Got the restaurant week deal - which was actually a good amount of food for the price. I had low expectations coming in but the food really wasn't bad. Nothing incredible or mind blowing but all was pretty tasty. The deviled egg trio was actually tasty and so was the soup. Salmon entree was well cooked, sauce was a little sweet but again tasty overall.

Do you guys have any happy hour specials?

I recall seeing signage for $8 cocktails from 4-6pm. I would bet there are some small bite options that go with it.

How much cost the breakfast? thank you in advance.

Their menu is on line. I can't guess what you might order. Their prices are very reasonable for such good quality food

Used to come here all the time, but after moving away from the area, I hadn't been back in a while…read more Eating here again reminded me exactly why this spot has been around for almost two decades the food is just that good. Everything we ordered did not disappoint: Fried Chicken: Crispy, golden, and classic. The meat itself is mild, but it works well with the sides, the punchy, savory collard greens balance out every bite. Creole Crawfish Étouffée: Rich, deeply flavorful, and comforting. Fried Pickles: Crispy, tangy, and great on their own, but pro tip: put a fried pickle right on your spoonful of étouffée. The crunchy, vinegary pop against that rich crawfish sauce is incredible. Pork: Perfectly seasoned with the perfect tenderness with just the right amount of satisfying bite and chewiness. Dr. Pepper Simmered Short Ribs (Daily Special): Boneless, melt-in-your-mouth tender, and beautifully balanced with sweet and savory notes. Side Note: The chicken, pork, and short ribs all came with mashed potatoes, and the way they season those potatoes managed to complement each distinct main dish perfectly. Honestly, not a single miss on the table. Highly recommended!

Writing a review like this is difficult for several reasons, and I very rarely leave negative…read morereviews. As someone who has works in the restaurant industry, I understand firsthand how challenging this business can be, and I have a tremendous amount of respect for the people who work hard to make a dining experience memorable. That's why I don't say this lightly when I say that our food experience tonight was extremely disappointing. We ordered the pork chop, which was okay, but the cabbage side was honestly hard to eat. I'm not sure if it was intended to be slaw or steamed cabbage, but it was essentially wet cabbage with very little flavor. The potatoes were decent, although the portion was quite small and they had a texture that tasted almost like boxed mashed potatoes. The biscuits were extremely dry and hard, and unfortunately, the butter served alongside them wasn't very good either. The spinach that came with the special was, without exaggeration, one of the worst parts of the meal. It had a very unpleasant taste that made us question whether something was off with it. There really wasn't another way to describe it. For a $44 plate, I expect the steak to be cooked properly, the sides to be flavorful and thoughtfully prepared, and the entire dish to feel worth the price. We also ordered a peach soda that was $10, which already feels very expensive for a soft drink. What was even more surprising was finding out that refills were not complimentary. That's something I feel should be clearly communicated when ordering. This is supposed to be soul food, a style of cooking known for bold, comforting, flavorful food. Unfortunately, our meal just didn't deliver that. Everyone at our table left feeling unsatisfied. We spent $163 for three entrées, three drinks, and two orders of biscuits. When you spend that kind of money and the food is exceptional, you leave feeling like it was money well spent. When the experience falls this far short, it's understandably frustrating and leaves you questioning the value. I do want to give credit where it's due: our server was wonderful. We had absolutely no complaints about the service. He was attentive, pleasant, and did her job well. I genuinely hope this feedback is received in the spirit it's intended. I know how difficult the restaurant business is, and I'm not looking to tear anyone down. I simply believe that when a meal costs this much, the quality, flavor, portions, and overall execution should reflect the price.

The peppercorn sauce was delicious and had a mushroomy taste. The steak and sauce complimented each other so well. I love a side of fries but they were maybe a tad too salty. Safe to say I will be back for this dish again. First time trying french onion soup and was delighted about the gooey cheese and the soaked bread bits at the bottom. You definitely can get a good cheese pull with this. The onion wasn't as overpowering as I initially thought this soup would be. Fettuccini with mushrooms was buttery goodness on a plate. Pretty standard dish and filling. There's lots of street parking around the restaurant and a nice bookstore to walk in afterwards. The staff were so welcoming and i loved the diner ambiance. We arrived around 2 PM on Sunday, August 23, and waited approximately 30 to 45 minutes before anyone took our order. We were seated on the patio, and during that time I watched two other parties get up and leave after waiting just as long without being helped. The table next to us was also having service issues and ended up receiving the wrong order. The food itself was bland and not something I would come back for. The one positive part of the experience was the gentleman bussing the tables, who had dark hair and a beard. He was extremely polite, attentive, and kind. Unfortunately, our waitress, who had red hair, seemed completely disengaged. She never checked on us after taking our order, did not bring us our check, and even her demeanor while taking the order felt dismissive. When we ordered, her response was basically "okayyyyy," which was uncomfortable and unprofessional. Overall, this was not at all what I expected based on the reviews. Between the extremely slow service, multiple tables being neglected, incorrect orders around us, and underwhelming food, I would not return.

We got the salad, happy hour mole chips, and taquitos to start. Everything was really good. The salad was bright and plentiful, the lettuce was nice and fresh. For my entree, I got the short rib mole. Holy smokes it was outstanding. The beef just fell off the rib, and the mole had a very deep and complex spiced flavor. It was one of the better moles I've had in SF. The sides it came with (fresh tortillas, beans, picked cauliflower, and rice) were all really good. To finish, we had every churro dessert they offer. I especially liked the churro with fresh buko (young coconut) ice cream from Mitchell's. But the s'mores churro and the traditional churro were both also great.
