My go-to dish when I go to Korean restaurants is usually jjamppong. I ordered this as well as some tteokbokki. Both were highly disappointing. I was brought the tteokbokki first. Immediately I could tell it was way too watery and under seasoned. The jjamppong tasted way too fishy (which made me wonder if the seafood was bad - but I didn't get sick). Once I noticed how overwhelmingly fishy it was, I immediately stopped eating it. Staff is pleasant, but it doesn't compensate for the disappointing food and long wait time. Conclusion: I will not be returning and I was looking forward to finding a hidden gem according to most of these reviews. read more

Nice staff, good food, ordered take out jajangmyeon noodles once and had bibimbap there. The jajang comes in a delicious black bean sauce and the bibimbap is a huge bowl of rice, meat, and vegetables. I also got kimchi with the bibimbap and plenty of other small dishes. They also give you a spicy sauce on the side but the dish alone is savory and the vegetables had a nice crunch. I always feel bad when I can't finish the food because the size of the portions! You can tell this is a "mom and pop" as they take their time to make this food. I am not a person to rush my meal if I know how much effort and attention it takes to make it good. Perfect authentic Korean food. My wife is from Seoul and this food met with her approval, which is hard to come by in the US. We had three lunch menu items: pork bulgogi, beef bulgogi, and a soup called woogeoji galbitang. All three were excellent. That soup is basically a beef brisket soup with fantastic broth. If you're unsure what to try and you like spicy but flavors that aren't too wild or foreign then go for the pork bulgogi. The beef bulgogi is good too; make sure to add the sauce they provide to bring out the flavor. And if you're down to try some authentic Korean soup then the galbitang won't disappoint. read more

I was craving Korean food after an appt and decided on Sami. I was the 1st customer that day since they were just opening up at 1100. I ordered the fried dumplings and the Bulgogi lunchbox. They were good and flavorful. My only complaint were some of the onions mixed in with the Bulgogi weren't cooked thoroughly. Overall, I enjoyed it and practically finished the main meal. My brother picked takeout from Sami's for his birthday lunch after reading Yelp reviews. I spent nearly $100.00 on a variety of dishes and waited an hour for them to be prepared and packed for takeout. Our biggest disappointment after we unpacked the meal at home: Instead of the authentic, marinated, slow cooked meats I saw being served to their lunch crowd, all the meat dishes in our takeout order were made from the thin, frozen, tasteless, precooked carved meat product like some Greek restaurants use in gyros. Driving up to this location I had my doubts. The restaurant was very empty for a Friday night, and my party and I were the only two tables there. Two friends had never tried Korean food before so I was hesitant that maybe we had come to the wrong place and I was happy when all my doubts were mistaken. One friend and I tried their bulgogi (beef and chicken) while another tried their bibimbap and the last short ribs. For the prices the portions were on the generous side, especially the bibimbap. I also tried their soondobu and it was delicious! I've never tried it before so I was excited and it definitely met my expectation. The only comment my husband made was that I was supposed to be given an egg to crack in the soup, but instead it was already in there and cooked. I definitely preferred the beef bulgogi over the chicken, but they were both amazing. The meat was very well seasoned and tender as well as the short ribs. The prices are very affordable and you leave the restaurant extremely satisfied. The server was very friendly and suggested what soondobu I should get according to my tastes. Finally I found a Korean restaurant that serves JAJANGMYEON!! Now mind you I am from MD so I haven't been to any other restaurants in the area but to the numerous places I've been in MD, not one served this. I watch Korean Supernatural dramas on Netflix and this is a dish that is very commonly served and it was delicious. I'm glad I finally had the chance to taste it. I also had Mandu and i loved the cabbage kimchi (not too much spices that it was hard to eat and a tasty flavor). They had a variety of 6 bonchon dishes. The rice cake was cooked perfectly and the sauce was exactly how it's supposed to be, sweet and spicy. I ordered black bean noodles as my main entree and it was amazing. The portion was enough to be filling and worth the price. If J remember correctly, the noodles were about $10-11. I'm so glad it wasn't over priced like any other Korean restaurant around here. Came in for dinner one night and the place kind of had a nice homey charm to it. Service was slow as there was only one woman running the front. Plus side though, she was very friendly. The mandu was delicious, my son enjoyed it a lot. I feel like the other two dishes (Bibimbap and Pork bulgogi) was decent but not overly spectacular. She forgot to give me the gochujang sauce for my food so I had to wait until she was done assisting other tables to ask her for it. I know it was late, but we still got there an hour before closing. I was meeting someone who just moved back and although he cooks Korean food, he's renovating his kitchen, so we decided to go out. We got there and for every choice we made the waitress came back and said that they either didn't have it or that the cook couldn't or wouldn't cook it. She kept apologizing, but instead of telling us what the cook was willing to make sure insisted that we make a choice and then, she would ask if it was available to make. I ended up with a third choice and my friend ended up just eating an appetizer and vegetables. The waitress brought out some pieces of hard cookie that seemed to just be whatever was leftover as part of the apology. My friend said that if I wasn't there, he would've just got up and left after her coming back for a second or third time saying that the cook would not make certain items. read more

But I was PLEASANTLY SURPRISED! The "bachan" (side dishes) were super tasty and fresh. We ordered "pahjun", "jjajangmyun", "ojinguh bokeum", and "yookaejang". All were very good and tasted just as I had expected them to taste. I've been to a bunch of Korean restaurants in the Hampton Roads area, some of them get lots of amazing reviews and when I go, the food tastes or looks nothing like Korean food.
