This is my favorite local place to grab a slice. They're quick and relatively cheap (slice of cheese & slice of roni came to $4.90 today). Love this place! Super yummy pizza and fries! Super friendly people who work here! I caught a situation where a man came in to use the bathroom not realizing its a bathroom for customers only. One of the people who worked there kindly mentioned it to him and then turned that situation into a friendly one asking him if he had caught any fish ( having come from Jamaica pond) and joking around with the man and wishing him to have a nice day! I particularly love thin crust pizza, cooked well, with delicious sauce and cheese blends--and the Same Old Place keeps that love alive for me without even working hard at it. It true that I may be biased because my family has been getting pizza and subs from here for as long as I can recall. The food is tasty, well-portioned, quickly prepared, and always reliable. A staple at our parties--their fried eggplant pizza is ridiculously yummy and uncomplicated. Subs and dinners are your standard sub shop fare but the ambience and authenticity of your local sub shop experience is only rivaled by JP House of Pizza a few blocks down. They have great pizza and great subs. I'm from New York, pizza is better there. It's a fact of life. But as far as Boston goes, I'm pleased to say that this is a suitable substitute. I am originally from New York, and certainly ate my share of pizza growing up. I love Same Old Place. Thin crust, sweet sauce, cheese that is salty enough without overdoing it. Atmosphere is utterly casual - I used to go with friends to split a pie and watch Jeopardy. Good times. Been going here for close to 15 years, and I'll continue going for as long as I live in Boston. These guys are a gem. Anyone who knows their history, knows that. They are just a great bunch of people. And the food is about as good as you can get from a take-out Italian place. The pizza, though a bit variable, is generally excellent and rivals some of the best in the city. It's not gourmet, but if you're looking for a good New York-style pie, this is as good a place as any. Always a pleasure. The only thing that keeps me from giving them four stars is the prices. When you have so many other decent pizza places in the area, it pays to be competitive. Why would I pay $17 for a two topping pizza from SOP when I can get one for $11 from Zesto's just up the street? The pizza isn't as good at Zesto's, but we're talking almost 50% more in price for SOP. What gives? That and they don't do normal sized calzones. It's large (and $16) or nothing. For shame. I truly hope that some day I can bump this review to four stars and happily eat here at least a couple days a week. Fingers crossed. Exactly what you expect to find in every neighborhood: a dependable sub shop. Great for hangovers or guilty pleasures. Nothing they make is perfect, but it's not trash either. The portions fit right in line with the price as well. The large sub is nearly 18" long! And the large pizza is massive. My go-to's are the steak & cheese sub (with onion, always get it with onion. In fact, if you're ordering a steak & cheese and not getting onion, then you're doing it wrong. Trust me on this) and the super pizza. My only gripes are that they sometimes miss the little things (hots on the side, pizza got a little lopsided). To sum up: don't order from this place when you want to impress your visiting mother. Order when you and your significant other are focusing on more important things and you want to feed yourselves quickly. read more

I think Same Old Place's pizza is just great. I am also from New York (where the pizza is better) but in as far as Boston Pizza goes, I'll eat here. I found the pizza is repeatedly better than Ideal, Zesto's, Cappy's, Boston's House of Pizza, Uno, Bella Luna and Penguin. I liked Il Mondo, but since I only went there once I can't rate it yet. I have also had the Greek salad here which was very good, but a little pricey. I think my number 1 reason for giving this place 5 stars is the cold beer on tap. I am not used to dive places having anything more than bottles. This really sets them apart. If you are in the area, stop in and try it out. Simple, straightforward, generous slices that aren't dripping with grease. Are you hungry yet? I've never had anything but the pizza here, mostly because their vast menu is somewhat overwhelming considering the small kitchen they have. They keep the place clean and prep areas look respectably clean from in front of the counter. Wow, I've been walking and driving past this place for years, but only thought to try their pizza last night, and I was amazed. This is just like the pizza I knew and loved in New York as a kid. The crust was light, yet crisp, with a perfect combination of tomato sauce and cheese. It was perfection. I found myself thinking about that slice of pizza I'd had all day, and just came back this evening with my girlfriend and once again: perfect pizza! I ordered a half cheese half hamburger and it was blah with too much red sauce, a salad and Italian sub everything is just a little less than average. The prices are fair and they give napkins. The food here is overall pretty good. And now they serve beer, yaay! Some of the pizza guys have pretty stinky attitudes. Maybe it's the extreme heat of the ovens, I don't know. Sandwiches here are kinda just ok. Pretty servicable and cheap pizza, definitely a place to pop in for a slice if you're in the vicinity and you're craving a cheap bite. I've had pizza here enough to know if I like it or not, notably once or twice from the optimal departure point of pizza criticism, the fresh out-of-the-oven slice pie. It was good but it was merely that. If you're willing a trek up to hyde square, Slice O Pie has this place beat for pizza. If not, stop in. Well, first off, it takes so much time before the pizza get prepared, Secondly, the place is always crowded, so there's barely any place to sit down. Thirdly, the pizza has so much grease, it makes you want to pass out. Fourth, and sadly lastly, you should only go to same old place if your craving is to get a stomach pump to suck out all that grease, or if you're on the streets, and you're lucky enough to buy something warm, otherwise, Papa Gino's is your best bet for to die for pizza.
