Great place for a dinner party! Excellent food, staff and service! Very family oriented Turkish restaurant.

If you like Mediterranean food, you will like Samdan. A must is their shepherd's salad with extra cheese. A large will feed four adults. We usually order lots of appetizers instead of entrees so we can get a taste of different foods. Try the fried calamari, eggplant in tomato sauce, yogurt with walnuts. The pita bread here is the best I've tasted. It's probably a good idea to make a reservation. read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Northern New Jersey. The menu has so many different selections, and I've probably tried them all by now. The food is authentic, and you can tell they go out of their way to ensure that the diners are satisfied. They have a prix fixe menu which is offered before 6 PM. On this, they have a large variety of appetizers and entrees along with either soup or salad, and a dessert. In many other restaurants, I've found that the portions are much smaller on the prix fixe as opposed to a' la carte. That's not the case here. You are served a good portion, quite comparable to the a 'la carte. It's a very good value. read more

Samdan is a very good restaurant, its consistent. We ordered a medium dish of the dip type appetizers which I though was a bit to expensive for what we got, however, everything was tasty. The bread they serve is fresh and warm. I at the chicken kebab, very good. I also have had the donner kebab and the lamb - lamb is cooked perfectly and if you are a fan of burgers try the donner kebab, its tender and delicious. The shepherds salad is my favorite thing on the menu. My vegeterian friends at the zucchini pancakes which were delicious and they enjoyed the vegetable couscous as well. Its a BYO place, casual, can be a little loud.....I was actually feeling bad for the other guests there since MY table was the loud one!! read more

This place USED to be great. We ordered out or ate in at least once a week. And it was my go-to place for lunch with the girls. Then I made a special trip into the restaurant to speak to the owner about placing a catering/takeout order for a special event at our home. He assured me all would be taken care of and ready for pick up promptly at 5:00 on the appointed day. When my husband arrived for pick there was no record of the order at all. After calling the owner the staff assured us that our order would be forthcoming. My husband arrived home an hour late with more than twice the food (hence twice the price- and we're talking hundreds here). Every guest went home with their own TRAY of leftovers. I spoke with the owner - no apology, just an offer of free dessert if we came to lunch. P.S. Everybody makes mistakes. Although we had not been back to Samdan in months, we decided to try takeout again tonight. My husband returned home but his bag didn't contain the extra rice he had ordered. No itemized receipt in the bag to check if we'd been charged for it. SO another call to the restaurant revealed that they had indeed charged us. I called to make a to-go order. Asked about appetizers with eggplant. Wanted to order two different ones. I asked questions about ingredients of each, the guy on the phone rudely said 'I am busy, call back when you make up your mind'. I was on phone with this guy only for ONE minute!!! I was so shocked by the rude service, I hung up and we didn't go in, even though we were 2 minutes away. We live nearby and as a whole family we always go to this restaurant for dinner. But after this attitude, neither me, nor my husband are ever going there again! read more

Ate here last weekend. I cannot believe I waited this long to try this restaurant. The shepherd salad, recommended by the waitress, was very good. My main dish was a combination of lamb and steak. Perfectly cooked. Service was good without being overly attentive. Sorry I was too full to try dessert. I highly recommend this place. read more

Wonderful food and quickly friendly staff, we're never disappointed here! The last visit I ordered a dessert off the menu that wasn't listed to have nuts in it and they were very considerate and quick to change it out for something else with no hassle. OK, but boring. We had three appetizers, and four mains. Worst was the manti, which had no flavor profile, just gummy pasta in a light sauce. Best was the lamb shank special, though with just rice to go with it, it became one-note and boring as well. Two specials they were out of, even though we arrived at 6:30. After leaving our original restaurant for my daughter-in-laws bridal shower due to NO power Samdan with 5 minutes notice was able to accommodate our 50 guests with amazing professionalism. They had an over abundance of some of the best food I have ever had outside of Turkey, Can't believe they were able to serve 4 appetizers, the choice of 5 dinners and dessert for all 50 without any advanced notice. The waitstaff was incredibly nice and accommodating . Could not have asked for better!! My new favorite restaurant. Can't wait to go back for dinner. read more

This review is for the recent lunch I had with my mother in law, husband and two young children on weekend. First the service was warm and friendly. I love the fact that they give you a large pitcher of water and a large container of ice cubes so you can help yourself. My husband drinks a lot during meal. Their bread basket was very generous and the lunch special, probably one of the best values in NJ. We ordered some hummus and an eggplant appetizer. They were all very good but I've definitely had better hummus. The lunch special comes with either a cucumber and tomato salad or lentil soup. Both were very good but everyone loved the lentil soup(and I don't even like lentil soup). My mother in law ordered stuffed eggplant which she loved. I ordered lamb kebab and chicken kebab for me and for my 2 kids. Lamb cubes were moist and delicious with no gamey flavor. They were quite generous with meat portion too. Chicken was also moist and flavorful for white meat. Both came on generous amount of rice with grilled tomatoes, pepper(extremely spicy!!) and onion. My husband ordered falafel which was also very generous in amount but to me, they were a bit dry. We ordered desserts..baklavah and sour yogurt drink for me...Now, I had a bit of high expectation on their baklavah but it was just ordinary just so so baklavah. My husband had almond pudding which was also good but a bit too sweet for my liking. I'd love to try this place for dinner. read more

Very good family restaurant. We usually order salad, Shish Kebab, Lebni, Hummus. It used to be BYO, but they got liqueur license and now charge corking fee - still better bring your own bottle - food is much better then wine there. Great for group gatherings - they will accommodate large table, and food is good for all ages. They also have very inexpensive lunch special. read more

If you were a former customer of this restaurant before i highly suggest you think twice. Greed had gotten the better of this restaurant to the extent it is quite a shame. I ordered the usual order i have been ordering for many years. I was truly shocked when i found our the price had risen to 29 dollars for one order but proceeded to pay. When i asked for extra hot sauce on the side i was astonished that they refused to give me any with my 29 dollar. They instead demanded i pay two dollars extra for measly hot sauce and two dollars for white sauce. I was flabbergasted. For the bland , dry , truly mediocre food ; with this absolutely rude and horrible staff attitude i highly suggest either going to greek village in Northvale or a middle eastern restaurant elsewhere. It is a shame the lady at the front counter and owner are truly greedy individuals. I wish they could have some level of appreciation and loyalty for their customers. As someone who has been going here literally all my life, it is repugnant this is how this establishment treats loyal customers. I will forever make sure my family never goes back and every one of my friends are the area understands this establishment . Truly a shame I hope the owner learns two things. 1. greed makes you actually lose more in the end 2. the woman at the front desk needs an attitude adjustment and to treat loyal customers in a more appropriate manner. read more

I love Turkish food! And Samdan definitely does not disappoint when it comes to delicious meat, chicken, rice and eggplant dishes! Last time i had Adana Kebab, Doner Kebab, and they both were amazing, soft and flavorful! We also got sheppard salad, fresh as expected. I really enjoy Arnavut Cigeri which is fried calve's liver, and Samdan makes it great, wish onions, lemon on the side! And Imam Bayildi is delicious as well, its eggplant stuffed with veggies. Location for this place is great, they have nice big parking lot, i enjoy beautiful interior design of this place with clean and white table linens. Waiters are friendly and helpful. The only no-no for me was when i ordered some hot tea, and i got regular lipton tea, with hot water on the side ( hot water was from the sink by the way). The only suggestion i would make to the owner to get some nice Turkish tea, and brew it fresh with bottle water. Turkish tea is known around the world for a great taste, and i was expecting to get that. When you sitting in this fancy restaurant with great food, you expect that it can only get better, but the tea part really disappointed my experience last time. read more

I do not recommend. Came here Sunday night and only waiter was nephew of uncle and feels entitled to ignore customers. Waiter got the order wrong, begrudgingly told of specials only when we asked, was Missing in action when we needed water. We skipped drinks desert and coffee because we felt unwelcome. We saw a family with young children who seemed to be having a similar experience. Food was good. But that seems to recommend takeout. I called the restaurant the next day to complain. I was told owner would be away for the week which might explain why service was horrible. But not to fear! The waiter called to deny everything. Skip this place. read more

Been here a couple times in the last year, and the food has been pretty consistent. Being Turkish myself, and having my mom's cooking to compare, it's relatively good food. They say when you walk into a restaurant, if most of the patrons are say, turkish in a turkish restaurant, it's a sign of the food's authenticity. Agreed on that point, but you'll find this place is filled with mostly non Middle Eastern people. The food has been somewhat commercialized, but they still stick to the basics and offer a good Middle Eastern mix of appetizers and entrees. Not a whole in the wall, it's more of formal dining space. I would suggest it more if you're bringing a date, having a family dinner, or there for a special occasion. Not a place to go with a few friends to hang, eat and be rowdy...Try it out, you won't be disappointed. read more

Samdan is one of of my favorite restaurants, and is probably the best Turkish restaurant in North America. I always get borek when I go there. It is basically feta cheese wrapped in phillo dough. This dish is one of my favorite foods. The kebabs here are absolutely amazing! The bread is peta bread with sesame sprinkled on top, always served warm. This place has traditional Turkish food, the decor is traditional, and the servants and host are very nice. You should definitely try this place out! read more

I enjoy this restaurant a lot. I've been here twice and the quality is consistent. I'm honestly not a big Turkish food connoisseur, but the ingredients used here are fresh and quality. It is a very nice place to go when the usual foods (ie. sushi, Chinese, Italian, American chain restaurants) are just too played out. I always like the doner meat. It's just like a gyro, but don't call it that in the presence of the Turks as they hate the Greek and that's an insult to them (see world history for explanation). In Europe they have Doner kebab stands all over the place and they can be amazing, so I figured with that limited Turkish food knowledge it would only be right to expand on that and I am happy that I tried out this restaurant. went there last night and had the lamb/chicken combo. the rice was buttery (yummy), the kebab pieces were good (although i thought the lamb was a bit salty). someone else had the lambchop/lamb combo. we also got the shepherds salad and lentil soup. everyone enjoyed their meal. the bread they give you is warm and tasty. the servers were generally very warm and friendly. not my favorite place or kind of food but if you like kebabs, i think this is a great place to go. read more

Another old favorite of mine. Lovely white tablecloth restaurant with warm hospitality reminiscent of Turkey. Excellent Turkish food. Warm grilled pitas on the table. Start with the Shepherds Salad. The large serves four people generously. With the bread it's easy to ruin your appetite. That would be a shame because you'll love the food. Get the Iskenderun - gyro slices with yogurt and rich tomato sauce. Try the tender lamb shish kebab cooked to order. Big portions. Try the traditional Middle East desserts. BYOB. My wife and I get take out all the time from Samdan. Shepherd salad is phenomenal. For something so simple, the salad itself can be a filling dinner. The falafels are light and very tasty. The Doner is spectacular, chicken kebabs (extra juicy and tender) are great as well as their combo platters. Authentic and delicious from top to bottom. LOVE THIS PLACE! read more
