    Baba ghanoush

When I had a late night craving for Mediterranean food, we placed a delivery order from Samdan through Uber Eats. What an absolute smash out of the park. We didn't realize an order of baba ghanoush came with pita bread triangles, so we also got an order of the Turkish bread. I wish I'd gotten a picture of it because it was truly a thing to behold. Larger than a human head, just barely warm, and a soft and tender dipping vessel for any gooey and smushy dip. Suffice it to say the subaltern pita triangles went largely ignored once this was unbagged. Speaking of the baba ghanoush, this was also a joy-giving dip. Warm, with a hint of smokiness, and with a drizzle of olive oil, this hit the absolute spot. Our entrees were just as satisfying. Falafels somehow retained their crisp and crunch through the delivery ride, and the ground chicken adana was juicy and flavorful. It's a daring thing to give five stars to an establishment I've never visited in person, but in this case, the food spoke volumes for itself. Since then, this has been bookmarked as my go-to spot for when the Mediterranean yen hits.

Food and service was delicious! We came for Mother's Day and got to sit outside and enjoy the weather and space! Drinks were delicious and food was good portion!

Solid restaurant. It's classy, yet you can walk in a tracksuit with a wad of Benjamins building from your pockets. Quality and quantity, coupled with kind service - you will not be disappointed here. Highly recommend for middle eastern food as this has Turkish influence. Parking lot in the back with plenty of spaces, but shared with other businesses in this lot.

The food is always good here. Love the borek, they are filled with cheese and lightly fried.

Nestled amidst its picturesque streets are eateries where every dish tells a story. One such establishment, Samdan, meaning "candelabra," is located on Piermont Road in Cresskill, where my partner, our friends and I came as first-timers for dinner on Saturday night. Reservation was easily made via Open Table. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the host and got a table in their newly renovated dining room with a modern vibe and relaxing music in the background. Their menu centered around Mediterranean cuisine on lamb, eggplant, olive oil, grilled fish, and some vegetarian dishes. But the prevalent tastes of Turkish cooking featured peppercorns, paprika, cinnamon, sumac, and cumin. As appetizers to share, we opted for Lebni (curd of yogurt with walnuts and a hint of garlic) and Borek (flaky pastry filled with cheese and parsley). As our meal, we decided on Creamy Chicken Special (breast of chicken in white wine, heavy cream sauce, and a hint of garlic served with rice and grilled vegetables), Side of Mashed Potatoes, Lamb Chops (4 pcs broiled baby lamb chops served with rice and grilled vegetables), Chicken Shish Kebab (charcoal broiled tender cubes of marinated chicken with chef's seasoning served with rice and vegetables), and Meatballs (Korte)--ground lamb mixed with bread, onion, and garlic served with rice and grilled vegetables. Complimentary hot bread accompanied with balsamic vinegar and olive oil began our meal. All our dishes had a great artistic presentation that was amazing, made with fresh ingredients, well seasoned, and tasty. The portions were just right. The only complaint was not all dishes came out at the same time. The service team was perfect, as we weren't rushed. They were very friendly and nice, especially our server, Seder. The chef/owner, Chef Emre Yeşil, came to our table to make sure everything was to our satisfaction. The price was comparable to the area. We had a wonderful dinner experience, which we can recommend.

Excellent dinner. We had the shrimp kebab and the salmon special; both were memorable, fresh, and perfectly prepared. Highly recommended.

Did ownership change? Went in there today and didnt recognize any of the staff. Openned up the food and the rice is now all of a sudden short grain rice. Food tastes a bit different.

The food is just awful and not only rice has changed but apparently the chef

Inside the restaurant, it was even more nicer, with modern cozy dining space and full service bar. We started with the grilled octopus that came with plenty of well cooked octopus pieces, with some delicious mix of onion, peppers and red wine vinaigrette. For entree, I ordered the braised lamb benedict, a rare dish I haven't seen anywhere else. It came with two pieces of bagel base, topped with decent tasting braised lamb and perfectly poached eggs. The side of salad and potato has were good too. I also got the Lefkes Shrimp Tempura roll, which was the best dish of the night for me. It was a big roll, filled with ingredients and topped with massage. The virgin mojito a tasty drink as well. The service was okay. Our waiter did his basic duties. The dishes seemed to be coming out slow, though were one of the only four parties in the restaurant. Overall we had a nice family lunch, but the experience fell far short of being upscale, since the dishes were priced that way.

I thought it would be a salmon filet in the buns but it was actually a salmon patty mix with veggies. It was not terrible but it was not good. Waffle was kindda dense. Not very fluffy. Grilled octopus and sushi were the best out of the lunch. Fresh and flavorful. Big portions.

The menu length reminds me a bit of a diner menu in comparison to the usual Greek menu. There are pitas/gyros, platters, entrees, apps, salads and soups. There are also a few things on the menu that don't belong on a Greek menu: burger, quesadillas, and chicken francese; I'm not sure what to think about this but it would be something picky eaters could have! I enjoyed the spanakopita platter with fries and grilled veggies (spanakopita didn't have a strong taste, grilled veggies of zucchini, carrots, onions were soft and perhaps slightly overcooked but good). The shrimp souvlaki platter with mashed potatoes and rice was also tasty. Most platters come with two sides. They also give you complimentary hummus with pita bread. Service was nice and not pushy. The decor is pretty casual with some Greek art and knick knacks around, along with plenty of pictures of the chef. Their website isn't that great and seems more catered to to-go orders. It's located on a street with a few other places like a pizza spot but there are also a lot of empty storefronts. Street and metered parking before 8 pm. Given its location, not sure I'd be back anytime soon but I recommend!
