Amazing. Go do it, now! We drove over an hour from Alabama to try this place. Worth the drive and worth every penny. This place is amazing. Tried the smoked sausage appetizer. It was unbelievable. I was already composing my Yelp review before the main entrees even arrived. I had the lamb chops. They were perfectly cooked and delicious. My wife had the mahi-mahi. Also delicious. Our server Callie was knowledgeable and super friendly. The food was great, but she made our experience that much better. The atmosphere is cozy. It's a great place for date night. We will definitely dine here again, and we highly recommend that you try it EDIT: During our visit our child would not eat his chicken tenders. They looked slightly overcooked, but we dismissed it because he can be pretty picky. Note, they didn't look burnt, just darker than normal. However, we brought them home and I just tried to eat them for lunch. They were completely inedible. The meat was so tough that I could not even bite a piece off. I suddenly understood why he wouldn't (couldn't) eat them. This is partially our fault for not trying them last night while still at the restaurant. If we had caught it then I'm sure they would have made it right, but this was slightly disappointing given the otherwise perfect experience we had. Samba Loca is AMAZINGGGG!! Service was decent. We ordered the surf and turf & it comes with a salad and side of choice. We chose to change the salad to Mac & cheese (which was in up charge and we knew) and chose the loaded mashed potatoes for our side. When we got our bills an extra $2 was added to the bill for the loaded mashed potatoes. We were confused because the loaded mashed potatoes were UNDER the sides so we assumed it would be included. We asked the server why was that and he told us that it was extra for LOADED. Nowhere in the menu nor was it said to us that it would be an up charge for LOADED. It was a busy night and the manager could not come and speak to us. We ended up paying for it because the server stated they could not do anything about it. Please know that we are not bashing the restaurant in any way shape or form!!! It was just the miscommunication of the menu. read more

Excellent food, good service. First, the ambience is nice and upscale, but not stuffy, which is much needed in the college town of Carrollton, west of Atlanta and almost to Alabama. Being a college town, there are several fast food options like Moe's, Chik-Fil-A and typical corporate food joints like O'Charley's and Ruby Tuesday, but very few upscale craft food options. Samba Loca has a very nice menu and lots of variety in the Latin regions. The servers are young, but adequate, not as experienced for the food level, but definitely good enough. The bar and drinks are great and well crafted. I highly recommend! read more

Starting with the bread, they serve it with a small cup of pico de gallo on one side, and a small cup of what tastes like mayo and mustard mixed together (but mostly mayo) on the other. This just doesn't work. Just bring out some whipped butter. And the bread is cold. Ordered the Brazilian chicken, which comes with yellow rice, vegetables, and choice of sauce. I chose the Susu curry sauce, which ended up being the best part of the meal. The sauce is a mild curry and is rich and good. The veggies amount to a small bowl of stewed squash with a few stray pieces of broccoli thrown in. Decently flavored but nothing to write home about. The yellow rice was bland. I had to use the curry sauce like a gravy. The chicken was a large breast which appeared to have been pounded flat and then pan-roasted--in other words simple. It was grossly over cooked to the point where it had very little flavor and was as dry as the Mohave. There is no excuse for charging $15 for this plate and then not being able to execute a pan-roasted chicken breast any better than this. The sauce "saved" the chicken by imparting just enough flavor and moisture to render it edible. Service was average. Took 35 minutes to get the plate, and the server let my water glass go dry. Not unfriendly but not particularly friendly either. All in all a rather poor showing--certainly not good enough to make me a repeat customer. read more

Tried this place on a whim, thanks to a Yelp deal offer. We ordered the meat special, sweet potato balls, plantains, soda, cocktail and dug in. The meat was cooked well - flavorful, plenty of it, and a good variety. The side dishes were ok, the sweet potato side tasted a bit like tater tots and bland, but overall both were good. This little steakhouse is delicious!!! I got the ahi tuna with twice baked potato. Everything was perfect! The hubby's lamb chops were spot on & the steak stroganoff was amazing served with rice instead of noodles. The house salad dressing was a refreshing vinegarette with black olives. It was a nice restaurant with nice clean inviting decor, some relaxing music playing in the background. The prices were a little high but we decided to go with the chefs special Paella seafood. It was fantastic. The rice was delicious. I enjoyed the shrimp, mussels, calamari, chicken, Brazilian sausage, in a seafood broth. The menu stated it served 2 but it would serve 4 easily. My husband and I (finally) had a night out with no children. We decided to just stay local and go somewhere on the square. I am SO glad we chose Samba! Our server, I think his name was Brent, was superb. He was prompt and courteous. The red sangria was delicious and the calamari app was the perfect crispness. I got the filet that cut like softened butter and my husband got the Mahi Mahi. We ended our dinner with desert. It was a molten lava style cake with ice cream. Came here to celebrate my moms birthday since a friend recommended it. They didn't look open when we came in and the servers kept walking by us for a solid 6 minutes while we were at the host stand waiting to be seated. We finally got our table and waited 15 minutes before we got drinks. We finally got them and we were able to order. We got the provolone dip as an appetizer but had to eat it with a fork because they said they were going to bring bread but didn't and never came back for us to ask for it again before it got hard and cold. We got our food 1 hour and 40 minutes after ordering and it was good but not worth the wait. My mom got the surf and turf and her lobster was the size of a McDonald's chicken nugget with no flavor. We never got refills and never got our plates bussed it was bad. We had to wait minimum 10 minutes for a fork, then a steak knife, then again for a spoon. I've been a waitress for 6 years and always give the benefit of the doubt because I know how hard it can be but when there are 2 tables in the whole restaurant this is unacceptable. We left hungry and extremely dissatisfied. We will not be back and will not recommend restaurant this to anyone. read more

Every time I've ate there it's been great. Each steak is delicious. The last time I was there, about a month ago was for lunch. The lunch portions are small, still expensive and literally half my steak was fat. We sit outside and I never saw the server again until the check came out. It started off poorly as we brought our dog and planned to sit outside ... we were informed twice, once by the server, and again by who I assumed was the manager that dogs were not welcome ... EVEN OUTSIDE. This was conveyed in a most tactless manner. We were granted a table outside despite the presence of our very well-behaved, unobtrusive dog. I ordered steak ... tough and gristly throughout ... fortunately, my dog was glad to assist. The service was slow and very uncoordinated. HOWEVER ... the highlight of the evening was the loud argument between a server and the manager-apparent. I should have sent my steak back ... I suppose I was trying to be optimistic about the consistency and did not want to make the evening any more unpleasant than it already was. One of the tips said this was the best tap beer selection in Carrollton which was a major decision maker for me in determining where to have lunch as I was from out of town and wanted some local beer. I found only 8 draft beers options, 3 of which were local craft beer--Two Sweetwater selections and one Red Hare Brew. For lunch I had a Red Hare Watership Brown Ale, the Brazilian Smoked Sausage appetizer, and a veggie panini. The smoked sausage brought the HEAT in the form of crushed red pepper. Thank goodness for the Red Hare! The veggie panini was packed with roasted red pepper, zucchini, pesto, tomato and mozzarella. The prices were very reasonable and the server very personable. We were the only ones there for a while so we had time to chat her up. Yelp offered a 5% check-in discount and this was the first time our server had seen anyone use the yelp discount. This restaurant's atmosphere is mediocre. The food is delicious and high quality if you have 2 hours to sit around and wait on it. I have been here twice for take out and both times they didn't have one of the items I ordered and I had to wait 20 minutes longer than specified the first time and 40 minutes the second time. I could have eaten and left at any other restaurant by the time I received my take out. I suppose that's why there are always very few people in the dining room. Today there were 12. This review is a little late been looking for time to write it, but I ate there last week. It is a wonderful restaurant, maybe my favorite in Carrolton! Lots have complained online about the service, but my service was amazing. The atmosphere is great. Tall booths and comfortable lighting with like decor makes it a romantic hot spot! There are TVs and a bar for those looking for a more casual feel, but the high booths makes it where you can tune them out for the romantics here. The food here sealed the deal. This restaurant earned the right to call itself a steak house. High quality ribeye for the price you pay. Excellent marbling as well as tender makes it incredible. It's paired with an in house made herb sauce and lemon to add tang to the steak, and wow is all I can say. The Caesar salad is made in house, dressing and all, making it a must. Final Verdict: Great atmosphere, excellent service, the food is incredible. Order the ribeye and use the lemon and the herb sauce, it takes it too the next level! read more

My husband and I recently found ourselves in Carrollton, GA at dinnertime and decided to check out somewhere we've never been. I had heard and read a lot about Samba Loca and the last time we were in Carrollton I had wanted to eat there but my husband insisted on another restaurant so this time I was determined to have MY way. It was around 7ish and they were about half full. The restaurant had low lighting, white table cloths, etc., so the ambiance was romantic which is good for a date night with hubby. We ordered a glass of wine while we perused the menu. They had a fairly good wine list which is always a relief. The hot bread they brought out was great so we were off to a great start. My husband ordered the soup and salad and I ordered the short ribs with twice baked potatoes and side salad. The salads were good. My husband's soup was called vegetable bisque. Correct me if I am wrong, but, I was under the impression that "bisque" is a cream soup with the vegetables pureed. What he got was a bland vegetable soup at best. The "broth", if you can call it that was runny and it seriously looked like someone had opened a bag of frozen mixed veggies and threw it in a pot with water and that was their bisque. Large chunks of serrated cut carrots and other rough cut veggies and no cream.... Isn't bisque supposed to have cream? At least they could have cooked it in beef or chicken broth to give it some flavor but no... just water and very bland. We could not detect a hint of any spices at all. Seriously, it was a very dismal soup. Now, on to my dinner...The twice baked potato was large so I guess that was a plus but it was very dry and lukewarm like it had been left over from the day before or sitting out for a while. My "short ribs" were unlike any short ribs I've ever had in my life, but, not in a good way. They were tough, stringy and pretty tasteless. Being in the service industry I hate complaining or sending anything back but for the price I paid I truly could not eat them. I chewed and chewed but couldn't even get it chewed enough to swallow. I seriously spit it out in my napkin because I couldn't swallow it. I tried a piece from another one and still couldn't eat it. I cut off a piece for my husband to try and he had the same reaction. It looked like they had taken spare ribs and cut them sideways across the bone instead of up and down like you usually would spare ribs. They did have a little spice but since I couldn't chew or swallow them, it didn't really matter. Most short ribs I've had in the past were moist tender and thick cuts of meat. I called the waiter over (who was training a new server) and to his credit he did take the price of the spare ribs off our ticket but no owner or manager ever came by our table to see what the problem was and as they walked off with my plate we overheard the trainee ask "Do we always get this many complaints and returns?" to which he replied "We get a lot but not usually as many as we have tonight" which tells me there is a problem in their kitchen that sending food back is so commonplace there that no one from management even bothers to come to the table. I really, really wanted to like this place and give it a great review (especially since I insisted on eating there) but I just can't recommend it. Maybe it was an off night but from the waiter's response to the trainee, I doubt it. Started off great but quickly went downhill. I can recommend the salad, bread and wine though.
