Had some friends take us there for dinner tonight. The atmosphere is casual. The staff is very friendly and they only work for tips. They are only open three nights a week and they do not take credit cards. The steaks are great and the portions are large. I was not disappointed. read more

Drove 45 minutes to the place. Saw it on tiktok and thought we would try it. Waited 1 1/2 hours to be seated. Another 45 minutes for our food. Fried shrimp was good. My husband order steak and sent it back because it was under cooked. They brought him two back and they tasted so bad we had them take it off the bill. Whole evening wasted for mediocre food. Very expensive too. read more

Husband and I went with friends to the Backwoods Steak house. I probably would have gone anyway to see the Scottish cows and emu's walking around. We heard that the fish was good and the steak so half of us ordered the steak and the other the fish. I enjoyed the weird shredded iceberg lettuce bar because they had potato salad but not my husband. Then the entree come out. The fish was not very fresh and was fishy. The steak was the thinnest steak in the world. My husband said his was gristly which is weird for a rib eye steak. They cooked it correctly (med rare) but how, I don't know. Next time I'll just hang on the fence and watch for the cows and emus. read more

Doesn't even deserve a star staff and owner was rude. I watched the cook drop my food on the floor and still cooked it. That is so unprofessional and disgusting. Never go here it's so dirty and nasty. I also had to wait for over an hour just for a table of two that is unacceptable 10/10 do not recommend read more

Steak was a quarter inch thick and tough. Do not believe it was a ribeye cut. Better steaks at Outback.

Awesome food and staff Steak are some of the best we have ever ate. Log cabin look makes it so cozy read more

Great service and great people and great food. Loved the wood fired steak. Came out perfect.

Food was very good. Big portions. Great service pretty fast for the amount of customers.

Location: BFE, but doesn't bother us. Price: in my opinion, overpriced, but you do get a lot of food. The servers only get paid through tips and THEY ONLY TAKE CASH. Service: service was great. Everyone was friendly and quick to have our drinks and food ready. Food: Sub Par. I doubt I'll eat here again. The fried foods (mushrooms, onion rings, pickles) need some sort of seasoning on them. They all taste the same. I ordered the seafood trio and my scallops and shrimp seemed to be cooked the exact same and were sitting in a pool of grease when served. Salad bar was delicious & I should've stopped there.... HOWEVER, the Possum Drops are a MUST HAVE for dessert. The full order is huge so go for the half order. read more

Backwoods Steak House - Possum Drops -- MUST Have!! - Steakhouses Near Me - Tallapoosa, Georgia

My wife and friends ordered the Fried Shrimp and it was good. Two of us ordered the Ribeye Steak but I was disappointed, it was tough and the taste was just okay. Several years ago the steaks were good but they righter need a better quality meat or better chef. read more

Lots good food for low prize. Enjoyed all of it. Waiter Ben was awesome, one of the friendliest, most attentive and accommodating wait staff have had served me. The steak was cooked to taste. read more

This restaurant by far is one of the best steak houses around Haralson county Great food very good prices and superior staff

One of the best in the area. If you don't know where it's in the middle of no where. Service was awesome and so was the food. Great family setting, so friendly. Got to meet the owner and the story behind his restaurant. read more

See all

The food tasted great. The service was amazing. The rolls are full and not a bunch of air like most places. Everything had such good flavor. Love the big glasses of sweet tea!! Went an hour away just to try Backwoods. I'll do my best to return and try the most heard about steaks. I had the shrimp, which was scrumptious. read more

Great Steaks , never had a steak that came close to this. Service is great , all smiling faces. We love this place !

The food is good and the waitress staff are very nice and efficient. Salad bar is good. But the customer service of the man who seats you at your table stinks. The only complaint I have is that they tell you over the phone that they do not take reservations and that is first come first serve basis and everyone in the party must be present before being seated. Ok, that is all fine and good as long as you treat everyone that way. We tried to make a reservation for 21 people (birthday celebration) and was told no, but when we got there they had a reservation for someone called "Jimmie Mack" and was seating their party whenever they came in. They didn't have to wait for their whole party to arrive before being seated. Guess he is a friend of the owner or goes to their church. Who knows, but you need to treat every customer the same way. A person in our party ordered food to go and they don't bring it to your table, they tell you it is up at the check out register. She got ready to leave and was paying her bill and they had sold her food to someone else! Doubt we will be back just because of the way you are treated. read more

I did not mind the drive to this restaurant at all. The service was incredible, even though the waiters work only for tips. I wouldn't think that was even legal!! The food was not quite what I expected from all the great reviews. The steaks were only so-so. The baked potatoes had been cooked for quite awhile before being served. I ordered fried shrimp and they were dripping with grease. The salad bar, while small, was very fresh and tasty. I don't think I will make the trip again. read more

Awesome staff and food was excellent. The complimentary rolls were delicious, took me back to child hood. Definitely worth the drive. Out in the country this is why the name fits it perfectly "Backwoods". read more

We have been here several times. It has always been mediocre at best. But tonight was the last time that we will go here. The steak was terrible it was fatty it was raw and we just did not like it had a bad taste to it! Salad dressing was very watery and the lettuce was shredded up like grass. read more

Backwoods Steak House - Backwoods - Steakhouses Near Me - Tallapoosa, Georgia

Been here many times, always enjoyed the food and service. Until last night, their 16oz Ribeye was disgustingly 3/4 fat and gristle. When I complained to the manager/owner his attitude was even more disgusting. I understand a good steak has fat for flavor, but that was ridiculous. His attitude was even more ridiculous. Lost my business, I will never ever go back. read more

I usually never write bad reviews because I realize that anyone who works in customer service can have a bad day but I can sincerely say I have never been treated as rudely as I was tonight by the older gentleman on staff whom I assume is the owner. He was so hateful and at one point was literally two inches from my face yelling at me. This man is a poor excuse for a human being and needless to say I will never eat here again. The food isn't even all that good and very overpriced in my opinion. We ended up leaving and driving just down the road to a restaurant called The Lodge. Our meal there was delicious and the staff could not have been nicer. Backwoods will never get another dime of my money. read more

The steaks were good quality, the waiters were prompt and the food came out promptly from the kitchen. They were quite busy at the time but seated us very promptly after our arrival. The salad bar was small but was kept stocked. The wait staff works for tips only and payment is cash or checks only. The bathrooms were clean. We were first time visitors from Alabama and had overheard several people saying they were going there for dinner at a store in Tallapoosa and were happy with their recommendation. read more

One of the worst experiences I have had! Working in the food industry for 10 plus years I know how things work and what I experienced tonight was NOT working. We came in as a group but were missing two people that were on their way and they refused to seat us until all were present. If they weren't so rude about it would have been different! Poor cut in steak, we ordered a 16oz steak and it was 85% fat. $21.00 steak and had only a 4 oz piece of meat is outrageous! We ordered fried pickles and they never showed. Another steak we ordered well done and it came out medium rare and when we sent it back they charged $7 for the salad. Over all horrible and never would recommend this place to anyone!! Not worth the money or gas! read more

The only reason I am giving them a 2 is because their food was good. If it was based on customer service their would not be a low enough rating. We went there for my SIL birthday party, I tried to call ahead and was told they do not take reservations or call ahead seating. I understand they are small and locally owned so I am ok with that. I asked everyone coming to please be there when they open so we can all be seated together. That was pointless, we walk in and told them we would have 21 people I was asked "are you part of the Jimmy Mack" party? or did you call ahead. I told them I was not and I was also told they did not take reservations. They asked us if everyone was there? I explained we were 5 short but they were close. I was abruptly told to take a seat and let them know when we ALL there! So we took a seat and waited and while we waited we watched people come in and join the party they took reservations for...I am not sure who Jimmy Mack was but if you need reservations maybe you should try using that name. So when we were finally just 2 people short we were seated but at different tables...Problem # 1!!!! Problem #2: The way we were spoken to by the older man who was helping seat people. I know everyone has a bad day now and then but you are open 3 days a week, if you can't smile for 5 hours a day for 3 days a week you are open and make your customers feel welcome, well, then we do not need to give you our money. Problem # 3, my niece ordered a filet to go for her husband who couldn't make it, she goes to pay for her food and they had sold his food. Yes, they sold her to go order to someone else, what was she told? "I told that lady you would come get it when you left" I really hope it gets better but I can't say I will go back to find out. I am sure there are other steakhouses that would love to take cash from 21 people with a smiling face. read more

This restaurant is in the top 3 of the worst restaurants I've ever visited. For starters, I looked up the menu online to see what Backwoods restaurant offered and prices. At the restaurant, all of the main items were $4 to $5 more. My wife I and both ordered steak. I ordered my NY Strip cooked medium. When the steak arrived it was completely rare. I sent the steak back and when the waiter returned, the steak was half rare and the other half medium-rare. I ate that portion and sent the rare portion back. When I got the steak back it tasted like charcoal and,was heavily salted. My wife's steak was mostly fat and extremely salty. When we left the cashier asked how things went. I said not good. She said I'm sorry and put out her hand for the money. Needless to say, this was our first and last visit to Backwoods Steakhouse. read more

Great steak great salad bar great service great price. Now I can't eat a steak anywhere else because I keep comparing them to Backwoods' steak. Our family's favorite place to eat!!! read more

To say this place is "off the beaten path" is stating the obvious. It is in the middle of the backwoods with nothing else around. The restaurant itself looks like an "authentic" Cracker Barrel style... heavy logs along the front with rocking chairs on the front porch which gives it a home-town feel. The interior is very low key but rustic. Wood everywhere except for the the tables and chairs, The tables where standard restaurant-style with metal-framed chairs. The prices are very reasonable for a steakhouse ($10-$20) but they also have seafood and other fare. However, the steaks is what everyone comes in for. I had the "bits and pieces" of steak. The Bits and Pieces are only available on Thursday. This steak is what is left over from when they get the standard cuts. The price was $13.95 and the size can range between 12-16oz. It comes with one trip to the salad bar, rolls, and one side. he salad bar was a little below par. However, the "bits and Pieces" steak was FANTASTIC and it was much larger that I was expecting. I travel for business a lot and this was the best steak I have ever had. The onion rings where not per-packaged but home-made with large cut rings and comes with ranch dressing.. The wait-staff is only paid through gratuities so the service was very good. Overall, this place is a MUST for any traveler in the area. There are two issues. First is they only take cash. No exceptions. Second is they are only open Thursday through Saturday. read more

Best food I have ever had I love how the place is so country and out there. And the waiters are all so nice.

Unfortunately, I had a terrible experience tonight at Backwoods. My family and I met here, as we have done many times before, for my mothers birthday. There was 11 of us total. The evening progressed normally with rolls, salad, and drinks. I ordered a small ribeye cooked medium. When the steak came out, it looked quite rare to me. I confirmed this with several family members and we all agreed that it definitely wasn't medium. I asked the waitress to please take it back and cook it more. She graciously obliged. A few minutes later, she returned with the steak, handed it to me, and ran off before I could check it. To my dismay, it was not any better. It didn't look like it was on the grill more than 30 seconds (if at all). I decided to not send it back again since most of my family and finished their meals and ate the remainder of my wife's chicken. I told the waitress that I still was not satisfied with the steak and to take it off my bill. Soon after, the owner showed up. He asked what the problem was and I explained the situation to him. I said I didn't want to send it back again and please remove it from my bill. Then, he asks me, "Well, was you salad good? Was the potato good? Did you enjoy the rolls?" I answered yes to all the question suspecting where he was leading me. He then asked, "Well, do you mind paying for all of those then?" Dumbfounded, I said, "Are you serious? How much is all that going to be?" He said, "About the same price as the steak." I angrily agreed to pay what ever. To make it worse, when I got to the register, the lady behind the counter asked how things were, and I said, "Not very good. You lost about 6 customers tonight." Her only reply was, "Oh well." The back and forth continued for a few more minutes before we left. We were treated like I was trying to steal from him. I am not in need of a free meal, nor do I want one. I am shocked, disappointed, angry, and sad about this whole situation. I don't know if he thought I was trying to get a free meal or what, but I've never been treated that way by a restaurant owner in my life. They had such a good reputation there, but I will NEVER set foot in their restaurant again. read more
