A cute little Mediterranean cafe. It was empty when were arrived, and boy were we lucky. As soon as we sat down a very large group came in - the two employees had to call a third person in from home to get the order done. And our order still arrived in great time, and with no issues! My chicken gyro was perfect in every way. It was is absolutely what I envisioned when ordering it. The chicken was tender and juicy, and the flavors were exactly what I wanted. The fries it came with had a nice crisp outside with a soft inside, as fries should be...without any weird seasoning or added starch like seems to be the popular thing these days. A dab of salt and pepper made them really pop! My partner got a huge salad and said it was delicious. Staff were awesome! They handled the group after us with ease and professionalism. Clean. Small with 4 tables. Well kept. Good service. We live in the area and have always wanted to try Samara but never did. Until tonight. We wanted it to be great and it was ok. To start, there's nothing going on in side the restaurant. They need a TV or some music. It's very quiet. You only hear sounds from the kitchen or the phone. As we sat waiting for our food my wife said "why's it so quiet in here?" I ordered a lamb gyro, my wife a chicken gyro and we hummus app to share. To start the hummus looked delish with warm pita. But it had no flavor. It was missing seasoning. On the other hand the gyros were good but skimpy. I'm used to street cart gyros that are overflowing with meat, lettuce, tomatoes and onions with heavy white sauce. These things were barely there. Honestly I don't know if we'll be back. From the moment I walked in, I felt like I was transported straight to the dining room of my childhood home back in Cairo. Not impressed. Maybe they do a great dinner, but they really need to make some improvements on breakfast or maybe just forego breakfast service. There are bagels listed on the menu - bagel with butter, bagel with cream cheese, sandwiches on bagels. Arrive just after 9am. No other customers in sight. I order a sandwich on a bagel. And I'm told "we have no bagels", though his voice was so low I had to ask him what he said. Then I was.told I could have it on a roll. Fine! Not what I wanted, but fine. I was hungry. A family came in after us and Mom was reading the menu to the kids. Yep, they wanted bagels. Why not put a sign up somewhere that says you're out of bagels? The sandwich itself was just mediocre. I had bacon, which was tough. Hubby had Taylor ham (or pork roll as they call it). Since we don't live anywhere near NJ anymore, it's something he really likes to have when we visit. He was less than impressed. And I'm not sure if they're behind on their electric bill, but the a.c. is certainly not on at the moment. We definitely won't be back for breakfast. And not even sure we're all that interested in trying them for lunch or dinner. read more

Food was ok, not good not bad, just average. Compared to other halal not a lot of flavor. Beef was good, chicken kabobs were not and seemed like they were made hours ago. I feel bad rating this place 1 star..... but I have to. First, the service was just horrendous when we went, the portions were abysmal (considering it's not exactly a cheap place to eat, relatively speaking). Worst of all, the food was bland. 3 strikes, you're out. (I've seen other reviewers have noticed the super-skimpy portions and poor service as well) I was also blown away by the fact that there aren't any lamb options on the menu. This is the first Mediterranean restaurant I've ever been to w/o lamb. That said.... I assume I wouldn't enjoy the lamb either, even if they offered it. For good Mediterranean in the area.... my money goes to Authentic Greek Eats and Royal Grille 37. Both have lamb the menu, along with better tasting food, better/friendlier service, MUCH bigger portions, and are even a little cheaper! read more

Casual spot, which is perfect for a place two blocks from the beach. Had lunch there and was first impressed by the cleanliness and nice seating area. Started with the Hummus and Baba Ghanoush, which were both outstanding! Great fresh, interesting flavors! The Samara mixed grill was kefta kebab, chicken and beef gyro, with seasoned rice, salad, and an amazing sauce that topped all the fresh, authentic flavors of each food. Very unfortunate event coming here for breakfast. We went because it was right around the corner from our hotel. I asked for Taylor ham egg and cheese on a plain bagel. The service was not welcoming. He said, "oh, you mean pork roll?" Like if you knew what it was, why did you have to correct me? We want to the Tom's River location. Service was good, fair pricing for a good bit of food. The only complaint is the Adana needed to be more seasoned.
