I am not sure what happened ... the Royal Grill 37 was a regular take out location whenever we visited our daughter because they offered non-meat options and really really good food. Well, I always went for the chicken because I don't need to worry about non-meat options but the food was always really really good. One other consistency was the service! For some reason it has been awhile since my daughter suggested Royal Grill 37 and I didn't know why but there are lots of options for take-out in the area but I was going to be in the area by myself and I wanted something good to eat so I called Royal Grill 37 and ordered my favorite. Chicken over Rice with extra white sauce. I walked into the small storefront restaurant that gave off a nice positive energy. Yes, I felt very welcome and that friendly team was friendly just like they always have been. They handed me the 'heavy bag' because you always get a lot of food at Royal Grill 37. But when I opened the container to enjoy my solo dinner it was ugh ... the food was not tasty and the amount of chicken was minimal on top of a big pile of rice. The side salad was ok. But it really didn't taste very good ... yes, I know I could add the tasty white sauce but that would merely hide the fact that the chicken wasn't very good. When I talked to my daughter later she said that they had stopped going there because the taste just wasn't what it used to be. Not sure what happened .... GREAT SERVICE ... LOTS OF FOOD ... We had take out from this place and it was delicious, certainly had one of the best meals in terms of Halal food (we compared it to the trucks in NYC) and felt was better. Their baklava was EXCELLENT! It was flavorful, moist, full of pistachios and left me wanting more. I tried a brown roll and the traditional triangle shaped baklava. They have a variety to choose from so that was a plus! The inside is clean and simple, and you can smell the food being cooked upon ordering. All was delicious and quite a feast as it was our first time here and weren't sure what to order, but wanted to try it all based on friends raving of this place. Great place, for a vegetarian or for meat lovers alike. I placed my order online and it was ready when I arrive to pick it up and the counter person knew my name and pointed out my bag immediately. My veggie combo was very good as were the sandwiches my fellow diners got. Plenty of sauces included had no extra charge. Unfortunately the plaza where this is located is currently under construction, so the place doesn't look great from the outside and a little hard to find. I can't say that I would want to go and sit in the restaurant as it didn't look like it was comfortable nor that there would be table service. Every time I see an extremely high rating on Yelp with lots of reviews, I have to try it. There's just this burning question every time: Is that high rating warranted? This place? 100%. Affordable platters, juicy, well-seasoned meat, Indian type basmati rice, and portions that will give you leftovers and then some. The interior is just a counter and deli-style tables, so it's really more of a takeout place, but we were just passing through so we ate in. Great spot in Toms River with a lot of options and the staff is so nice. The mix deluxe is a must have and the portion is generous! The prices here are very good. They sell a lot of food so clearly their plan is to give a great price and have people frequently come, which seems to be working as there's people always there. The high review comes from the prices mostly and speed of the food. The falafel is definitely subpar, as well as the hummus, and tahini. The grape leaves come cold but upon heating them up I could tell they were fresh and definitely made right, and very tasty. The food truly reminded me of a NYC halal food cart! Out of this world - gyro was stuffed with lamb meat and copious amounts of white sauce. The homemade garlic nan had a perfect texture and taste. Top notch service, top notch food, all around amazing. We're summer birds here and needed a good meal for a decent price. This place delivers. We've had the chicken/beef Chapli kabobs, chicken seekh kabobs, and the chicken tikka. The salad is fresh, but rice is delicious, and the sauces are a great compliment to your meal. I believe we've been going for about 5 or 6. The nice man poored my husband and I a cup of the most wonderful flavorful aromatic Mediterranean tea. The staff can be very aggressive talking, but are not mean lol. This is definitely more of a hole in the wall, but still a clean place to sit in if you want to dine inside the establishment. There was also so much food for a good price. I got two platters, as well as a side of pita and hummus, and three pieces of baklava for $37. It is cheaper to pay in cash! Everything was really yummy. Sigh... I had such great expectations because of all the wonderful reviews from my fellow Yelpers, but I was awfully disappointed. I got the #43 tikka and lamb to go. The lamb was hands down barely worthy of 1 star. It crumbled apart and was incredibly dry. The tikka was meh at best. Usually when I have dry food with no flavor that comes with sauce, I'll mix it all together and it's much better. I'm sad to say this wasn't the case this time. The flavors just didn't work well together. I personally don't think this place is worthy of 4.5 stars at all. read more
