I sent my hard drive to SalvageData and agreed to pay a high fee because my data was important and I trusted them to handle it professionally. For months, whenever I called for an update, I was told they were actively working on the recovery and that it simply needed more time. Then, out of nowhere, I called one day and was informed that my hard drive had been misplaced and they could not locate it. Their response was unbelievable. I was told NOT to keep calling for updates and that they would contact me if they ever found it. If they couldn't find it, the only thing they could offer was a replacement hard drive. Let me be clear: I didn't send them a hard drive because I wanted another hard drive. I sent it because I wanted my data back. What makes this even more concerning is that I was told they handle tens of thousands of drives, making it difficult to locate mine. If a company that specializes in data recovery can't even keep track of a customer's drive, that should concern anyone considering using their services. To make matters worse, because SalvageData lost my drive, I can't even send it to another recovery company for a second opinion or another recovery attempt. That option is gone. I trusted SalvageData with irreplaceable data, and they lost the drive. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this company. Stay away! read more

The service was really friendly and always available for calls to help with any questions. They did an amazing job recovering all my files--over 800 of them! They didn't just retrieve simple JPEGs but also RAW files, which I know can be difficult to recover. I was impressed by how quickly everything was handled; I got my entire USB drive back at home in just a little over a week. I definitely recommend them if you ever have data loss! read more

Nightmare to work with!! Avoid them at all costs. My personal external hard drive failed and I sent it to Salvagedata to get it recovered. I communicated with a representative and sent it into them for a quote. They said that I could get my data recovered, and we agreed on a price. The timeline they gave me was 5-10 weeks, which I had no problem with. After about 3 months I attempted to contact them to get an update. From this point on I tried several times to contact them with no luck. Even their website number was not working. Once I finally got a hold of them they said that my data was unrecoverable. This has been a five month process that could have easily been taken care of quickly, but their customer service and support have been horrible and very unprofessional. read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. HIGHLY UNETHICAL. I did not receive an email to approve/deny service, neither did I approve service. They charged me for the service as they hadn't heard from me and refused to refund me. It was stated on a call I would have the opportunity to approve/deny the service after seeing a file list. There was no disclosure I would only have 4 days to do so, I never received the email, nor was it in my spam folder. After talking with a representative who emailed me this file list after my card was charged, I determined I didn't need anything from the drive & wished to refund/cancel the card. The manager (who was supposed to call and never did) emailed me the terms of service (which I also never received nor is it available on the website for review). Absolutely TERRIBLE experience with SALVAGEDATA Recovery Services! Their representative was polite at first, assuring me that if they couldn't recover my data, I wouldn't have to pay anything. Sounded fair, so I trusted them and sent my SSD to the address they provided. BIG MISTAKE. A day later, I got an email saying my data was impossible to recover (which is fine, that happens), BUT then they hit me with a $40 fee just to get my own SSD back! They didn't even give me a choice-- if you don't pay, your SSD will be thrown away! So let me get this straight: you can't recover my data, but now I have to pay you just to not throw my property in the trash? This company intentionally hides this critical detail from customers. They tell you it's "free" if they can't recover anything, but conveniently fail to mention that they'll hold your device hostage unless you cough up more money. That's dishonest, misleading, and just a scummy way to do business. Save yourself the headache and go ANYWHERE ELSE. I wouldn't trust this company. Zero stars if I could. read more

This company had high ratings, so I thought it was the best place to go for data recovery. They assured me they could get data off my broken hard drive. So I sent it in. We paid for a 4-6 week extraction since we needed the information as soon as possible. After 10 weeks of no communication, I finally called, and they said they were working on it. After 3 months of waiting, they finally said they had my files ready to review. They had less than 1/10 of what was on my hard drive. I said, this is not enough for what you want to charge us. They told me I was RUSHING them. After months of waiting. So I said, fine, I'll be patient, please try again and see if you can get more. They never, ever communicated with me after that, until 9 months after I began utilizing their services, they sent a generic email stating it was unrecoverable. Not even giving me an option to receive the files they did recover. It was awful service. I highly recommend anyone look for a different company to work with than this one. read more

DOWNRIGHT DEVASTATED! I was told 7/12 that the evaluation on my device was complete and SalvageData was able to recover my data. I agreed to pay $2948 and was given a deadline of 7/20. Received a message 7/30 that device was deemed unrecoverable. I requested multiple conversations to discuss what was found between 7/30 and August 8th. Sadly, SalvageData returned to me a disassembled, irreconsilable device in pieces and won't return my multiple phone calls and emails over the last week. In February 2024, I opened a case with SalvageData to help recover some lost data/files on an external hard drive. I shipped my hard drive to them so they could complete an evaluation and they confirmed they would be able to recover the lost data/files for $1,016. I reluctantly paid their fee and a few weeks later they sent me a brand new Western Digital external hard drive with the recovered files/data, as well as my original hard drive. Upon receiving the new hard drive, I plugged it into my computer and was able to confirm that all of the recovered data was there and working as desired. After that, I set the hard drive on my desk - where it sat unused for 7 months. Fast forwarding to October 2024, I needed a file from that hard drive so I plugged it into my computer and found that while all of the data was still there, none of the files would actually open or play. I contacted SalvageData about it and they told me I'd have to send the hard drive back in for evaluation, which I did. On 10/31, I received a phone call saying that they had completed their evaluation and found that the "headers had gone bad" on this brand new hard drive that they provided me not even a year ago. They said in order to recover the data, I'd have to pay another $1,000+ which I was very angry about. I expressed my frustration and concerns but they continued to express that they weren't liable for this hard drive failure, despite being the ones who provided it back in February. When I asked to speak with a manager, their account manager Chris Morrissey laughed at me. I was eventually transferred to a manager and he continued to express it wasn't their fault/problem and they could either send the hard drive back to my and I can take my business elsewhere or I can pay the $1000+ for them to recover the data. Overall - I would NOT recommend these guys for data recovery services. If you do, be sure to immediately back up any data you get back from them because clearly they don't stand behind the products they use/provide to their paying customers. read more

After my SD card decided to "self destruct" I knew right away that a software recovery would be impossible. SALVAGEDATA was able to access the photographs still on the chip so that they could be retrieved. Something that could not have been down outside of the professionals. The alternative would have been to just toss the defective SD card and write off the pictures. With a price points that can accommodate most, I appreciate being able to retrieve my formerly lost data. Hope I never have to do this (data recovery / chip failure) again. But I won't be reluctant to call on them if I do. read more

I rarely give reviews but this one I wanted to do to warn others about this service. I needed some data recovered from a thumb drive and wanted to work with a local shop so I googled it and SALVAGEDATA showed up as having a location right near me. I hurried over and dropped off my drive and then didn't hear anything so I followed up. Turns out they are not a local shop and it just gets forwarded to them out of state. I think it took over a week but I finally get an estimate for like $1,100.00 to recover! At this point I want to go just pick it up and try another shop since they did say it was recoverable, but it's out of state and I can't get it back unless I pay the $40.00 shipping charge back to me. I felt like it was held hostage unless I paid, so I went ahead and paid to get it back. Now I have to hope they didn't do something to make the data unrecoverable since I passed on their over priced service.
