The food was very good. The service was slow. Olivia was our waitress and she was trying hard but she was overwhelmed due to the place being packed. This is a steakhouse with a modern ambiance and reasonable prices. We would come back.

Ate here twice on our Badlands trip in November (Thanksgiving weekend when the town is like basically shut down)! The first night we tried the Buffalo Ravioli Bolognese & a steak with "seasonal veggies" (multi-colored-carrots). My Bolognese was good, but a little too much flavor on the meat sauce overwhelmed the ravioli. The Carrots with the steak were undercooked with no flavor. They really like Basalmic! its on the salads, veggie drizzle, coated the meatloaf - thinking in the bolognese too based on the flavor profile. 2nd day we got the buffalo meatloaf to share - my dad kept going on and on telling everyone how that's the best meatloaf he's ever had. It came with the carrots again & broccoli, plus mash potatoes. The Wedge Salad - probably the BEST I've ever had! We got it both nights! Now we are addicted to ordering them every time we have dinner together. I also tried the Huckleberry margarita (they were out of blackberries to make the Blackberries & Cream but I really wanted to try that too). It was sweet but unique. The ambience & decor was very attractive and part of what made us pick this restaurant first in our 3 night stay. It's on the corner down the road from Wall Drug. Beautiful white stone shopping strip. Had a gorgeous Holiday decor to it - Big tree in the front door and a few small ones. Brown leather chairs & hightop, Edison lighting everywhere, Cobblestone at the bar....Rustic and chic.

Last night in Wall and decided to try the Salty Steer even though the yelp reviews were mixed. Arrived around 6;00 pm and were seated quickly at a high to near the bar. Had to flag down a waiter to take our order. But service turned out good. The restaurant has a modern western theme which was warm and inviting. They also had a wedding going on up on the second level which was fun ands exciting. As for the food, I ordered the wedge salad with steak. The steak was chucks of steak (mo small portion) for $12.00 extra and they were cold but flavorful. The salad portion was also on the small side. My husband's side wedge salad was much larger. He ordered the Cornish hen was tasty severed with delicious mashed potatoes which were buttery and on point.

Great Good , Amazing Service ! Cost $$$ Family of five . I shared a 16oz Buffalo Steak . Wife had the prime rib melt . 2 kids had cheeseburgers . All food was very good ! A slight error was quickly and generously corrected . Steaks MAY be a little pricey for some . But it IS a steakhouse .

Although the menu selection is scarce our entrees were well prepared with a more than adequate portion size. Service was excellent even with a wedding party being held on the upper Miranda. As you can see from the pics the vibe is hopping and sophisticated which was totally unexpected at this tourist town eatery. What prevents a perfect score is the pricing/value......Expect to spend three figures+ if meat and alcohol are your forte' - enjoy.

Deviled eggs, Mac & cheese, steak fries, sliders,, and the Salty Heifer burger! Everything was great! My husband LOVES a good burger, and he gets angry at a BAD burger. He said the Salty Heifer was "a damn good burger" and "one of the best" and that's high praise "even though it was overcooked!" Yes... The burgers were all cooked more than we asked, so don't be afraid to order them less cooked than you like. We asked for medium, specifically saying they should be pink. There was no pink. They were all medium well. If they had been served at the requested temp... I can't even imagine... we might have bought a home in Wall tonight. We are from WAAAAAY out of town, so we were shocked to see THC cocktails on the drink menu! Never have I ever...

i just got the regular burger here for dinner with a side of fries, and the burger was pretty good (a little on the drier side if i'm being honest), but the fries were AMAZING!! i'm not used to getting diner fries and they were absolutely amazing. i haven't stopped thinking about them since this meal so i would definitely recommend you get them no matter what!! the restaurant is spacious with a lot of seating and it's not too loud that you can't have a conversation which is nice. the service is also really good! i'd recommend stopping here for a meal if you're in the area.

8oz. Sirloin, potatoes au gratin, and mixed vegetables

Great ambiance, very friendly staff, tons of drink selections, and amazing food full of flavor! Lots of choices on the menu with generous servings. Cobb salad was delicious, and the best meatloaf, steak, and potatoes we have ever had! Definitely add this to your list of places to stop when you are in Wall - you will not be disappointed!

Was recommended by a Wall local to go to Salty Steer and I'm glad we did. The sliders were good, however they were a bit on the drier side (so consider getting them a temp lower than you typically do) but ketchup improved it for me!

EXCELLENT FOOD & Drink! Service was a little slow, but the Swiss Steer Burger was delicious!!! My husband had the Prime Rib Dipper and I used his AuJu to dip my Swiss Steer Burger in and is was spectacular! Steak Fries were Da 'Boomb! I had the "I'm your Huckleberry Margarita" and it was worth the $15 price tag! HIGHLY RECOMMEND this Sakty Steer!

The meatloaf was so delicious and satisfying; a large enough portion to split with another. We each had the wedge salad and loved it too!

(But if you're looking for only bison, don't have any kids with you and willing to wait a hot minute, check out my review for Buffalo Dreamer.) If you do have kids with you, are willing to work your way around the crazy construction, or just want to try the coolest tap room around in addition to a bite to eat, the Mercantile & Taproom is your place! Firstly, I went there for the kombucha. It did not disappoint! Ask for the kombucha flight... it was incredible! Second, we each had the bison-elk burger and the cranberry stuff on it was... Oh. My. Word. I can't say what my tastebuds were doing to the food in my mouth and keep this review PG. The gluten-free bison/elk burger could have featured a GF bun, but I just wasn't feeling the extra bread so I got it without. The cheese sauce on top was just oh-so creamy delightful. And while broccoli salad may sound weird, it was actually freaking delish! The only issue I had with the burger was since I didn't get a bun to soak up all the juices, they disintegrated the paper lining in the basket. Pretty sure I ate a little extra fiber. Hubs got a non-alcoholic Margherita (although they can make it fully loaded if you wish), the bison-elk burger with all its gluteny-bun goodness, and the soup of the day, which he said was easily hands-down the best soup he's every had in a restaurant. (That's high praise considering the potato soup experience we had in Knoxville!) If you're in Hot Springs, passing through, or just want somewhere awesome to eat dinner, go here. Go early, as other reviewers have noted they may run out of ingredients. That tends to happen when a restaurant makes everything from fresh ingredients.

I had the Walleye Chermoula, and all I can say is...wow. The fish was perfectly cooked, and the subtle North African spices in the chermoula complemented the walleye without overpowering it. It was one of the best dishes I had on the entire trip. As always, we travel with a long list of dietary restrictions. My wife has gluten and dairy allergies, while I manage Alpha Gal syndrome, a tree nut allergy, and diabetes. Our server was outstanding. I didn't write down her name, but she took the time to understand our food sensitivities, answered our questions, and made sure we were comfortable with our meal choices. The attentive service really elevated the experience. The restaurant has a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere. It would work well for a casual business lunch or dinner, and families with small children should feel comfortable here as well. Its location is another plus. It's just off the main tourist area in downtown Custer, making it easy to walk to after exploring the shops, and there is convenient parking nearby. This was an easy five stars for us.
