In town for business. Came here on a Sunday night on recommendation of Hansen Cabins (which is a great place to stay!) They had Shiner Bock, which made my Texas heart happy. Started with a side salad. The blue cheese dressing was full of chunks of blue cheese and perfect. I'm picky on that! They didn't just use iceberg lettuce but a mix of other lettuces. I like that a lot. Whiskey tips in a sauce that was great. As promised, there was a kick. Side of beans ands they were cooked to the right al dente. Just the right spices. I felt like the portions were generous. I think two people could split that order. I would have taken leftovers but was on an expense account and wanted to try another place my second night! Pros: Delicious, well-cooked food. Polite, friendly server. Cons: None that I could see. We had a nice experience here. On a not-too-busy evening, we had a server who was polite, kept to himself a bit, gave us advice on the menu items, and brought our food promptly. The bison burger was, like a lot of other South Dakota food, very delicious, cooked extremely well. Fries were not greasy with a light crispiness. Chicken tenders were also very good, nothing dry, light batter, very nice flavor. It's unfortunate some of the other reviewers had a poor experience. I guess you could call Wall, SD a two horse town and they roll up the sidewalks around 7pm. We waited a little while to be seated. Our server was very friendly, which is why I gave her 3 stars. Unfortunately, she was bartending as well, so our service was very slow. My food was brought out around 15 minutes before my husband received his. My husband had chicken strips and fries. Fries were okay, but chicken strips tasted either old or some off brand pre-made frozen breaded chicken that is thrown into the fryer. I had mozzarella sticks. They were okay, no flavor to the batter though. The marinara tasted like tomato paste. Yuck. We ordered lemonade, but the machine ran out. All in all, not a good experience. read more

I thought this was the best place in Wall! We went there on night 2. Great country music playlist in the background, decent drinks, GREAT food! the chicken fried steak was HUGE - we shared it and still took home leftovers. But most importantly, it was really good - the batter was crispy and perfectly fried, the meat inside filled the entire thing so not crust with air lol, and it was tender, the gravy was on point! Pleasantly surprised and would definitely go back. I like the small town country feel of the place. Our waitress was great & attentive. We went in November during Thanksgiving actually, and it was already decorated in holiday festiveness. The service was incredibly slow. It feels like they don't really train their staff that well. It took 20 minutes to get a drink ordered and even longer to order food. We asked many waitstaff for waters or drinks and got ignored. Some of the fried pickles were NOT fried. Eating raw batter is not ideal. There was even a dog in the bar. You can't make this up! Boyfriend and I shared the plate and it was PLENTY to fill us up without over loading the belly. Enjoyed their IPA on tap (yes, at 9am no judgement). The lady sever on this Sunday morning was very sweet and quick with service. Open indoor area with beautiful wooden individual booth seats that were rather large. We made the obligatory Wall Drug stop during a recent I-90 road trip. After wandering Wall Drug for a while, everyone was hungry, and we ended up across the street at Badlands Saloon & Grille. This is a Saturday evening, probably around 6:30-7:00 pm. As soon as we walked in the door, it felt like a bad idea. In all honesty, Wall Drug also gave me that same feeling, so I thought maybe it's just the area...or maybe it was just me? We entered to a lengthy line of people waiting to be seated. There was a long empty / unstaffed bar just inside the door. Also, there appeared to be a lot of empty tables inside what appeared to be a very large restaurant. This gets one wondering, what is the holdup here? We waited probably 15-20 minutes to be seated. And our group of 5 was seated at a table suited for 4, so I was positioned at the end of the table. It took a long time for someone to take our drink order, probably close to 20 minutes after we'd been seated. We had to talk the waitress into taking our food order at the same time, which she did reluctantly. Then we waited a long time for our food! There were a healthy amount of people around us, but it was nowhere close to capacity, with several vacant tables. We were all puzzled by the delay, but ultimately we all agreed that they must have a staffing shortage. When our food did arrive, it was hit or miss for everyone in our group. Some things were great, others were not. Two of the people in our group got burgers and both commented on how the fries were cold. One said her plate was ice cold, which appeared to causing everything else to be cold. I tried the philly cheesesteak. Overall, not bad! I went with coleslaw for my side, which was pretty good, also. While eating, our drinks were empty for a long time! It wasnt until everyone was just about done that the waitress filled them. We asked for the check, but she must not have heard...or forgot. And we didn't see her again for quite a while. Then after a long wait, we asked again for the check. She brought it promptly after the second request. Altogether, the place is cool looking and is in a great location. The food was ok, but suffered because of delayed service. Our server was polite, but seemed way too busy for her own good, and altogether the restaurant service was terrible due to what appeared to be staffing shortages. Stayed in Wall on a frigid night, needing to get off the highway and rest. Since it's the off-season, and cold as heck outside, the town was pretty dead but our hotel recommended Badlands Saloon so we ventured back out and were not disappointed. The place was well-decorated and on-theme for the town and you can tell it's probably bustling in the busier months. There was one server/bartender and what looked to be a few locals at the bar and eating in the back, so on our visit it was quiet and service was probably slower than normal. Didn't bother us one bit since we were tired from our drive and enjoyed the calm and relaxed atmosphere. Food was amazing. Of course I need to highly rate any place that has mozzarella sticks as an app and actually gives you more than 4 or 5 to share. The marinara was good, and the sticks came out hot and ready to dip. My son got the pastrami burger and said it was excellent. The fries were also perfectly cooked. I ordered the NY Strip with baby bakers and a salad and was almost 100% satisfied. The steak was tender and cooked exactly to my temperature. It was just seasoned enough to add a little flavor without overpowering the meat and very juicy. I did have a considerable amount of fat on my cut, but I know some people really enjoy it, so I just cut it off and put it to the side. The baby bakers were delicious, but I do wish they came with a small cup of melted butter or some sour cream or even cheese dip. Not all of us like to slather our food in ketchup. The salad was very good, with fresh greens and the perfect amount of crutons, cheese and tomato. I'm not sure if their ranch is house made, but it was some of the best ranch dressing I've had. Finally, I did get a roll and butter, but the roll was very hard and I could not eat it. Again, I just set it to the side. Overall, this was a great choice for a satisfying meal after a long, cold day. The service was friendly, the ambiance was fun and cozy, and the food was very good, even with a few less than savory issues. If you're ever passing through Wall, I don't think you could go wrong stopping in the Badlands Saloon. read more

We chose this place because they advertised dog friendly on their outdoor alley patio. The menu sounded good, and since we travel with our fur baby we are always on the lookout for outdoor seating. Boy, did we get a surprise. Their outdoor seating was definitely an alley, with dumpsters right up against seating area. There were three tables, but only ONE was decent enough to sit at. Service was definitely slow. After we finally placed our orders, we sat for thirty minutes trying to struggle through pretty nasty tasting tea (bitter aftertaste). Every car that came through the alley kicked up dust. My husband went in to tell them to make our order to go, and they said the kitchen was backed up and she would see that ours was packed up. We brought it back to our camper to eat. As for the food, my husband ordered the pastrami burger with fries. He said it was "okay". I had a bowl of their loaded baked potato soup. It was some of the runniest I've ever seen, but the flavor was good. I also had a side salad with poppyseed vinaigrette, which was some very tasty dressing. The breakfast menu looked really great and I would have loved to try some other stuff if we were in town longer. If you have the free breakfast voucher, get the biscuits and gravy. They were pretty good. Update - If you have to spend the night in Wall, which is another review altogether, this place also services breakfast, and it was actually pretty darned good. The Days Inn we stayed in gave us coupons for breakfast so we gave it another shot and I'm glad we did. It was a much better experience than dinner the night before. I'm guessing the whole town or most of it is owned by whoever owns the restaurant or there's some other deal going on because everyone seemed to have coupons for free pancakes or free french toast. I wished the sauce was on the side and some pico de gallo would've been better. My biggest complaint is that they charge a 3% credit card service fee. The server should've informed us ahead of time. The saloon is a typical saloon - bar, wooden booths and tables, a western town feel, oldish music. The ambiance is actually very nice if you want that feel (which you do, of course, otherwise why would you come to Wall town?!). We got the veggie omelettes and the veggie burrito. I got unsweetened tea because they didn't have hot chocolate (what!!). My friends got coffee. The server was nice enough when taking our orders. But she disappeared for a long time after that and that's where the 40 min clock started. Several groups came after us and finished their food before we even got ours. When we did get our food, it was delicious! My burrito particularly was so so good, probably among my top burritoes ever! The potatoes on the side were delicious too. The omelettes were huge and yummy. The hashbrowns were delicious! Pricing is reasonable. Parking is street parking outside and could get busy but wasn't in the morning. We both ordered Chicken Fried Chicken with mashed potatoes. The chicken came with white gravy & they put brown gravy on our potatoes. We assumed mashed would be white gravy & he didn't ask what gravy we wanted. Our salads came out after our dinners. Would have been nice to eat our salads while we waited for dinners to come. I had a difficult time here ordering while having dietary restrictions. I ended up ordering a salad without croutons and chose a raspberry vinaigrette out of a range of selections which tasted pretty good. Unfortunately, our waitress was drunk and wandered around aimlessly when we were waiting on even our drink orders. We constantly found the urge to ask another waitress an update on our order as we were not wanting to be the rude ones, but in hindsight we should have tried to switch. When we ordered, she half listened with glossy eyes and toddled when she walked. We got our drink orders AFTER we got our food and even then, she handed hot plates to my friends to grab and they burnt their hands. When she gave me my drink, she then carried the rest of the tables' drinks away confused and then eventually came back. When she took our finished plates away, she spilled food over my friend's clothes. The ordering system seems unfair and unorganized. My friend was charged $3.75 just for a soda water. We got breakfast the next morning here as it's a very small town, and I ordered scrambled eggs but received an omelet. Pepper jack cheese was an ingredient in multiple menu items, but when I asked to add it to my side of eggs the waitress said they don't ever have that cheese, so I got American. I also got a coffee which was small and I didn't get refills even though I believe the waitresses were supposed to give refills. I don't want to be completely harsh as it is a small town and local businesses are important to have in comparison to a couple of the chains we saw in the area. read more

Our visit wasn't bad. We've been twice, had the country fried steak once and it was decent. Nothing spectacular, good size. Had a burger the next time, and again, it was fine, but nothing you couldn't get elsewhere. While the service is friendly, we had the same issues others had, where it's slow. The prices are big-city prices anymore. 4 stars or the food, minus one for the waits and the prices. Even in the off-season it seems that everywhere in Wall charges tourist season prices. I mean, if they can do it and make their money, that's great. It just means I'll visit less often. read more

Well, the folks that own this restaurant apparently own much of the town, including the hotel that we are staying in. The large restaurant is in town and is quite large with a "full" bar. Why quotes, you ask? Because they don't know how to make a Manhattan and serve wine out of a box. If you like yourself, stick with beer or fountain drinks here. This is if you can get a server to help you. Our server would show his face every 30 minutes or so. It was 52 minutes after our arrival - at least 35 minutes after ordering - before our food arrived. There were lots of burgers at the table, and they were all cooked more than requested. One came back medium rare, but we also got 3 medium wells. So much for asking for rare... The steak salad that I ordered was a supreme disappointment. It was fine once I removed the dry, tough, overcooked steak. Luckily, DH ordered the French dip, which was the best dish at the table. He was willing to swap some of the thinly sliced, tender steak for the tough cubes in my salad. A wonderful man! I strongly recommend that you do not go to this restaurant. We came on a Wednesday night during the off season and this place was absolutely packed for some reason. We were warned by our waiter that there was only one cook in the kitchen for the night so wait times would be long, so I will give them credit for that. I also want to give a shout out to the cook. Props on managing the kitchen alone during a very full night. You saved this review from being a one star disaster. Apart from the long wait times and non-existent wait staff, I would say our meal was enjoyable. I decided to try the Razzlesnake Burger which essentially was a jalapeno popper burger with raspberry jam. It was a great combination that my taste buds absolutely enjoyed. It seemed like this theme wove it's way through much of the menu - jalapeños, cream cheese, and raspberry - and it works! I will be taking this flavor combo back home with me to make on my own grill. The fries were also the double battered crispy kind, so kudos to them for that too. The rest of our table enjoyed their food but you could tell things were not done as well as they could have been given the staff shortage which is a bummer. Some food was cold or undercooked, presentation was just thrown together, etc. Prices were pretty reasonable given that they are right across the street from the mother of all tourist traps, Wall Drug but still fall in line with a restaurant that is in a larger city and not small town USA. If I find myself in Wall, SD again and need to find a place to eat, I will probably come back to this place (given there are not that many option anyways!). Visited for lunch on the 4th of July weekend. The place is pretty cool, liking the vibe. But, unfortunately the food really was a bummer. We ordered a personal pan pizza. 14 inch? No way. More like six inches. TINY! We ordered a Hawaiian with Jalapeños. Around $14 bucks. It was decent, just minuscule. Bummer. We also ordered the Cowboy Slop. Decent enough, but again... the fried chicken was maybe half a breast. No enough meat, with a huge helping of mash potatoes. Just passing through town and found this gem, gotta seated pretty quick the place was super busy for a Thursday night. The place was clean and the food was absolutely delicious. Like drop down you need to eat here at some point I got the country fried steak I've had this multiple places and this was one of the best I've ever tasted I left nothing left on my plate. It truly was fried to perfection as described in the menu. I also loved how they put the gravy on the side, I didn't ask for it like that but it honestly was that much better that I could dip it and drench it however I pleased. When I checked into the Badlands Frontier Cabins I was given a coupon (on a nice sturdy business card) for a free breakfast for each person who stayed the night, at the Badlands Saloon & Grill of pancakes, french toast or biscuits and gravy. The times on the card were very clearly written 7am-10:30am. The same times that were verbally told to us. I did not get up as early as I expected to. But after spending one night at the amazing cabin, I packed up my vehicle and headed back down to Wall's Main St. Right across from Wall Drug. The location was fabulous. At 10:20am, I entered with my Service Dog (who is legally considered a cane) and my wife. There was a sign directly in front of us that said "Please Wait To Be Seated." There were also 3 employees standing directly in front of us. One was holding a broom and began sweeping away from us when we entered. The other two stood behind the bar. So much time passed that my wife and I looked at the sign again to confirm and said aloud, "yes, it says wait to be seated." The server asked if there were 2 of us as she reached for silverware. We said there would be 3. I asked if there was a table that would have room for my Mastiff Service Dog to fit under. The man and woman behind the counter whispered some more. The server stopped reaching for silverware. At least the other individual came around the bar to approach us so we did not feel like we were being screamed at. The man asked if we were there for breakfast. I indicated that we were. He said that they stopped serving breakfast at 10:20am because the kitchen had to "change over" to lunch food. I looked at my phone. It was 10:23am. We had walked in at 10:20am. When I told him, he said again with emphasis on the word kitchen, that "*the kitchen* stops making breakfast at 10:20am because they have to change over to lunch food." At this point, I had become frustrated and angry because I felt (but have NO PROOF) that the people present simply did not want to deal with having an extra large service dog in their location. I told the person that we were sent over by the hotel for a free breakfast until 10:30am. The person said that the kitchen had to switch everything over so they could cook lunch food so they stopped serving breakfast at 10:20am. I told them that I would tell the hotel that breakfast was only served until 10:20am in that case. I waited a beat, turned and walked out. We drove right back to the Badlands Frontier Cabins where I told the woman working that breakfast was only available until 10:20am. (At this point it still had not yet hit 10:30am yet.) She told me, "oh, no. It's supposed to be until 10:30am." I explained my experience and she assured me that she was calling the owner. She picked up the phone immediately. ÀI thanked her. Hopefully this is sorted for the next people because I did not have the ability to just spend time standing on my feet - hence the extra large Service Dog (for mobility). read more
