Salty Steer - Large Wedge Salad, a very good meal with real chopped bacon and ripe sweet cherry tomatoes. The ranch is better than the blue.

We stopped by earlier to find out what time they were open until and even on July 4th they were still open till 10pm and even said we could walk in at 9:30 and still get served. We came back close to 9 pm. I wanted something light since I was going to be taking pictures for a while. The ultimate wedge salad with sirloin was delicious. The steak was cooked perfectly and my brothers bacon cheeseburger looked like something you would see on an ad. The service was phenomenal, they have a full bar and some nice cocktails as well. It's two levels and plenty of seating. Definitely a place to stop if you're in the Badlands.

The steak fries are terrific and the sides like Brussels sprouts are cooked perfectly. I haven't had the steaks but they serve prime beef and if the burgers are any indication, them I wouldn't hesitate to try them if that's what you're looking for. Is it perfect? No. The salads are overdressed (no surprise for South Dakota). But you won't do better around here. Wander into Wall Drug to say you did. Get a 5 cent cup of coffee if you like. Then walk over to Salty Steer for the only good meal you'll find near Badlands.

Salty Steer - Outstanding regular cheeseburger with crisp steak fries. Great juicy burger, ordered medium rare and cooked perfectly.

These fry bread tacos are worth going out of you way to give them a try. fast service, it's a simple good old fashion bar but the ambiance is nice. Again go out of your way if you're near there and enjoy a meal.

The menu is limited -- just a few sandwiches and the fry bread. That fry bread is fried fresh for you by Lulu, in a truck parked outside (in oil that's probably not fresh), but the result is a hot and fluffy and decadent base, on which Lulu piles the kinds of ingredients a 10-year-old would choose: cheap ground beef, packaged shredded cheese, iceberg lettuce, canned olives, sour cream, etc. Hot sauce optional. It's a warm and satisfying cholesterol bomb served with a plastic fork. If you don't expect more, you'll be fine. If you're not from around here, the bigger attraction may be that Lulu's is quite the authentic South Dakota roadside bar: a simple paneled structure with a gravel parking lot, bar-only seating, country music playing, and a room full of video games. The sad thing is that this may be the best meal you'll find in Badlands if you don't bring food in yourself. I hear the burger is ok, too, but if a burger is what you want, I'd seriously rather drive to the Salty Steer in Wall.
