Great communication and planning for our vacation. They were kind to me even when I made an embarrassing mistake and still scrambled to fix my mistakes and work out a schedule. I got exactly what I asked for: healthy food on an out of state vacation without having to stress about chopping and cleaning vegetables in a strange kitchen. Great experience. Has come several times and chef Don has been great. Very easy. Very inexpensive for what you get. (multiple meals beyond the stated) I froze some and had later and it still worked great. Hope they continue to service my area in the Hudson Valley of NY. read more

We had two different chefs calling us saying they would be at our home a different times. I immediately called Ryan and he said he couldn't take my call because he was going to a meeting. This was a great service, good communication leading up to the day of the Chef arrival. I wanted to experience a Chef come cook for me and my family for my birthday. It was really cool, she arrived, set up the table, cooked, had small conversations, served, and cleaned up. The food was good, the desert not so much which surprised me. I thought when hiring a chef I would experience an amazing food experience but it just did not meet my expectations. I was not upset about it, it was my birthday and my children enjoyed the experience. They enjoyed the meal she made for us. We decided to try Salted Chef to see if we could eat healthier and cheaper (compared to constant takeaway), and had an amazing experience when Chef Angela arrived. She is both professional and personable, which are important when you invite a stranger into your home to cook for you! The food was delicious and reheated perfectly, and our kitchen was cleaner than before she'd arrived. We had a great experience using Salted Chef for a personal chef service. My husband and I have busy jobs and were looking for someone to help us with weekly meal prep and this met our needs and exceeded our expectations. We utilized the shopping service so our chef came prepared with all the ingredients she needed. The food was wonderful and we look forward to dinner every night now, without the hassle of trying to prepare something and juggling the kids. Having a personal chef sounds like quite the extravagance but we will end up spending less money than we usually do- as we used to go to the grocery store almost daily without a good plan and get a lot of takeout. We would highly recommend this company, whether it be for routine meal service as we use them for or for special occasions because the food has been excellent so far! read more

Extemely poor communication by Ryan on multiple levels. It took 2-1/2 months to actually have someone cook for us after we were promised they would have a chef for us back in August. We tried to be patient assuming they may have Covid staffing issues though. Finally, I got confirmation someone was coming, but with only 1 day's notice, I had to scramble to get groceries, which was very stressful and inconvenient...the whole experience never got any better. The cook was an hour late after confirming her arrival time the night prior and I had to adjust my plans to leave the house. She ended up staying in our home until 8pm (was there for 8 hrs even after I helped her complete some tasks!) after we were originally told she would only be there for 4 hours (1 meal per hour, which seemed reasonable, especially if she were an experienced chef...). We weren't able to eat our meal that night until 8:30PM...! She still didn't complete/properly cook 3 out of the 4 meals we had agreed to with Ryan. She only fully completed a salmon meal for us, but even that meal wasn't done on time as I mention below. The rest of the meals were not completed as planned or were undercooked, like the basic oven-baked turkey breasts, so much so that even after warming our supposedly pre-cooked meal in 400 degree oven for 30 min, the turkey was still RAW inside.... We ended up having to microwave it, and it was tough and inedible. The rest of the meals were only partially finished and very basic items, nothing special or "personal and chef-like". Their re-heat instructions I received the next day were all the same repetitive lines, nothing specific to our unique dishes. All just said same tag line- to heat in oven or microwave... they even said to heat the cold dishes like pickled cucumbers! Like previous reviewer mentioned, these were just basic food network recipes printed out....Chicken lettuce wraps that were simply lightly seasoned chicken breasts in oven... very basic and bland... none of the other prep work for the wraps was done for us. We had to chop and clean all the veggies that went in the wraps ourselves and wash the lettuce...We had to make pickled cucumber side, etc. In the end, I had to clean everything up, scrub out all the pots and pans, some of them being burnt pans that needed SOS pads to clean, I had to put items she managed to finish in glass storage containers, etc, so she could leave and we could finally eat dinner. We were all starving!.... At noon when she first arrived, I asked her to make us the salmon meal for dinner that night and told her it needed to be done by 4pm for my daughter to have something to eat before her soccer practice, but she never completed it in time, finishing it at 6pm instead. My daughter had to scramble at the last minute to make a lunch meat sandwich to eat instead... That was really frustrating when the cook had already been there 4 hours by that time. Finally, the cook said she would return the next day to complete the rest of the meals and while that was very inconvenient for us to have her back in our home again, we wanted to offer her the benefit of the doubt since she said it was her first time doing this type of work- cooking for a family in their home, but she never came back and never called to explain she wasn't able to come, and no one from the company followed up either, except to attempt to set up the next week's meals...!! I explained in our response email, as well as a short responding text that things went really poorly and in email clearly outlined all the details of the issues.... Ryan never responded to us or followed up to this day, weeks later. It's a real disappointment for us and disruption to our plans because we were looking forward to and needed prepared weekly meals... If I had known they couldn't deliver, I would've researched other companies instead of wasting so much time and effort with them...I definitely would not recommend their irresponsible and poorly run business. read more

The Salted Chef is great! It isn't just a meal in a box like so many companies are doing these days. It isn't a healthy ready meal you have delivered and then heat up. It's an experience. You are literally having the restaurant brought to you. I have used them in the past, and I can't wait for Valentine's Day dinner tonight! We had a wonderful experience with The Salted Chef and will absolutely use them again and recommend them to others. They came to our rented beach house while we were on vacation and prepared 6-8 dishes, include appetizers and a delicious meal, so our family could spend more time together and away from the kitchen. The Chef was timely, professional, and even took over making our young child french fries and meatballs I was prepping for his dinner. The process with Ryan from Salted Chef seemed efficient and easy. We had some food restrictions and they accommodated those while providing many delicious dishes. We opted not to do the grocery shopping to make it easier on us and I would do that again, expect I would let them know some of the basics we had (olive oil, butter, salt, etc.) to avoid purchasing things we didn't need. But, on the flip side, we got to keep all left over ingredients and food, so nothing seemed to be of waste. Everyone enjoyed watching the Chef work and he seemed comfortable in front of our group. He even volunteered to take some group pictures of us enjoying our night! Definitely a neat experience and we'll do it again. read more

Wish I had more positive things to say about TSC. We contacted them to cater a couple meals for a bunch of friends getting together in St. Louis so our host wouldn't have to cook. We had a pretty open budget, and gave them plenty of time to come up with a reasonable menu. Ryan was poor with communication, and dropped the ball a few times with Emails, responses and group communication, which was frustrating. When the chef came, she had purchased items we already indicated we had in the pantry and forgot two of the sides entirely. Two meals were excellent, but one was inedible (like, really gross) and the other was _really_ basic. The chef brought printed receipes from The Food Network, so these were not very thoughtful meals and certainly not epicurean. Overall, more of a really basic home-cook catering company, not so much a professional catering company. Ryan did adjust our bill significantly for the bad experience, but ... unfortunately, this was our one and only, mediocre at best impression. read more
