We had our wedding in the Missouri Botanical Gardens in September through Catering St. Louis (the…read moreonly way you can reserve an area in the botanical gardens). We regret this decision. The wedding itself was beautiful but the entire planning process and getting Catering St Louis to actually work with us was a NIGHTMARE. First of all, it's a full non-refundable deposit that you must supply to hold your spot. This is also rain or shine, no refunds. We knew this and accepted this, but then (after we paid) they sent the full package with other restrictions we were not expected. No signs, no glasses or anything breakable. The seats that day will be set up for the largest group of the day, so if you have a small guest list compared to the other weddings occurring that day, too bad. You have to pay an additional $300 for a golf cart if you want help transporting people to the wedding site (NOTE: this only applies to the wedding party! They don't want you to use it for all your guests). Additionally, if this golf cart breaks down, too bad, they only have one, there goes your money. For a $3000 non-refundable deposit, you think they would provide reserved parking for at least the Bride and Groom. NOPE. When we met with Catering St. Louis representative, she assured us since it was a wedding earlier in the day, that we would find parking, but nothing was reserved. When I arrived with my parents in my dress, there was NO parking. My dad had to drop us off, park somewhere a mile away, and then RUN to the ceremony site. This was absurd. We talked with the folks at the botanical gardens themselves after this, and they said they would have supplied us with reserved parking if Catering St. Louis would have talked to them. ALSO, the people with Catering St. Louis refused to meet and work with us/answer questions until a month before the wedding!!! It was incredibly frustrating not knowing what was going on and what else we had to do. The only support we actually got from them was the ONE meeting with the Catering St. Louis representative less than a month before the wedding (which wasn't even in the botanical gardens, they met us in a cafe), and during the rehearsal. We got an hour for our rehearsal time and that process was smooth, but nothing was set up, and there was no way to hook our music up and to coordinate that. During the day of, the rehearsal coordinator gave us our ques to walk and then left. We would NOT recommend having your wedding at the Botanical Gardens through Catering St. Louis. We are SO glad we didn't use them for our reception.

Kirk brought all of the food along with 2 wonderful servers to set up, serve, and clean up so we got to relax and enjoy the party too. The Citrus-Cured Norwegian Salmon "Lox" with Traditional Garnishes & New York bagels and his Farro (WheatBerry) Salad with Dried Michigan Cherries were my favorites. The food was beautifully presented and so good that the bride & groom and a few guests asked to take some of the leftovers home so the servers packed up to-go packages for them. I would definitely hire Kirk again!!

I hired Kirk to cater my wedding, and the food was amazing. Kirk does not normally do weddings…read morebecause he gears his catering business more toward small get togethers and "foodie" audiences. His largest group is between 60 and 100. I think one of the more popular of his services is coming to people's homes and cooking a gourmet meal for a small group of family and friends. Wedding's tend to me super stressful, and the people planning it can be hyper active, irrational, controlling, etc. There is absolutely no need to be this way with Kirk. My whole philosophy during the planning of the wedding was to let the good professionals do their job while I had a good time. I chose Kirk because I was terrified of serving "bad wedding food". I started searching for caterers online and found a mountain of results. I had no idea how to winnow down to a good, wine friendly caterer. After contemplating the problem for a while, I emailed Catherine Neville, editor and creator of Sauce Magazine. She emailed me back with three or four names. I hit the jackpot! I went with Kirk because of my love of King Louie's restaurant, which is sadly, no longer; he was a chef there a few years back. I also chose him because he was confident, laid back, and capable of providing the most services. He was willing to be a go-between for the tables, chairs, china and what not. He also understands wine--which is what we served our guests, instead of an open bar. Kirk sent me some sample menus, some pricing. I consulted with my father, who was going to find the wine. We okayed a menu and that was the end of it until the wedding. The food was gorgeous and, according to my guests, sooooo good. I was, of course, too wound up to eat. And I knew I would be. It was buffet style. I didn't want to deal with telling my guests where to sit, or having to choose between chicken or beef. So, there was fingerling potatoes, asparagus, crusty breads, chunky salads with goat cheese, cherry tomatoes, little bites of toasts with salmon and some kind of spread, dates with cheese--and much much more. So, with Kirk, his menus tend to use the most obscure name for things--which required constant Google searching while reviewing the sample menus. The only other "tip" I have is if you are working on a wedding, make sure to ask for a separate plate for the bride (for after the wedding), and make sure you get all the leftovers. I think there was some food we paid for, but didn't get to take home. I could be mistaken--but I find it improbable that my guests ate all the petite fours! After the wedding, one of my guests told me that her cousin had hired Kirk to come to her home and make a dinner for her and friends, and that it was so much fun, and so good. I didn't doubt it. I highly recommend working with Kirk for any event. You will not be disappointed, especially if food quality is important to you.

We recently had our wedding ceremony and reception at Trigg Banquet Center, and I genuinely cannot…read moresay enough about the experience. I say this from a different perspective than most reviewers because I worked in the banquet and event industry for years. I know what it takes to execute an event well and how quickly little things can go wrong. I have never seen an event executed as flawlessly as ours was. Our guests were impressed, our families were amazed, and most importantly, my bride was treated like an absolute princess. Our experience with Trigg started about a year before the wedding. I had attended events there before and always had a memorable time, so I recommended that my then-fiancée and I meet with them. We had already done tastings at other venues. They were nice, but pretty much what you'd expect: us, our moms, a chef or event planner, an empty banquet room during business hours, trying to imagine what the room would look like during an actual reception. Then we went to Trigg. They offered us a private tasting, but we attended one of their monthly tastings instead, and it absolutely blew us away. The entire room was set up like an actual wedding reception: DJ, photo booth, lighting, bar, buffet displays, passed appetizers, different table and linen setups, centerpieces, hotel representatives for room blocks, plus recommendations for cakes, flowers, formal wear and other vendors. Instead of asking us to imagine our wedding, they actually showed us what it could be. Even our moms were in awe. We tried the food, used the photo booth, heard from vendors and met the owner, Terry, who personally went around introducing himself. And the food was phenomenal. Having worked in this industry, I know there's a huge difference between preparing a few great tasting portions and producing that same quality for a room full of people. Trigg proved they could do both. By the end of the tasting, both our moms were telling us to book. We couldn't book fast enough. Some of our original dates were taken, and Trigg worked with us to find alternatives. They offered the DJ, Chiavari chairs, reasonable bar packages, fantastic appetizers and several great dinner options. The hardest part was deciding what we wanted. For the record: Beef Tenderloin and Chicken Marsala. Great decision. Later, we met with Tommy to finalize our menu and details, and then there was Chef Chessa. We gave her a challenge. Our guests included vegans, vegetarians, gluten-free guests, people with shellfish allergies and diabetics. She didn't treat a single request like an inconvenience. She exceeded expectations for every one of them, in some cases preparing specific plates for individual dietary needs. That's above and beyond, and it meant a lot to us and our guests. Roughly two months before the wedding, we ran into a scheduling conflict with the church and were struggling to make the timeline work. Trigg suggested having the ceremony at the banquet center. I'll admit, I was apprehensive. I didn't want to inconvenience our guests or create an awkward transition between the ceremony and reception. Instead, Trigg made it completely seamless. The ceremony ended and drinks and appetizers began almost immediately afterward. The execution on our wedding day was seamless, flawless and flat-out impressive. We had Teams meetings beforehand, selected our songs, prepared our programs and established a timeline. I even managed to get us about ten minutes behind schedule, but their team never lost control of the event. Wedding-party introductions, dinner, prayers, speeches, cake cutting, first dances and everything in between stayed organized and flowed naturally. Their staff moved with a sense of urgency, which, having worked in this industry, I can tell you is something you don't always see. Terry personally checked on us during the reception, as did his team. Our DJ was fantastic and even honored one particularly important request from the bride and groom: not a single Taylor Swift song was played the entire night. To each their own! My wife wasn't stressed. She was treated like a princess. She was able to enjoy her wedding instead of worrying about what was happening behind the scenes. It truly was one of the happiest days of her life--and mine. I've never heard as many compliments during and after a wedding as we got about ours. Guests were still talking about it the next day. Trigg accommodated our guests. They even let my Dobermans be part of our day. But most importantly, they understood something that sometimes gets lost in all the logistics of planning a wedding: the bride wants to feel like this is her day. Trigg made absolutely certain that it was. Happy wife, happy life--and if you want to start yours off right, I would recommend booking Trigg Banquet Center as soon as you can. Trigg helped give my wife the wedding day she dreamed about and gave both of us a day we'll never forget. Five stars doesn't feel like enough.

All the drinks, condiments etc. are self-serve, including tea - you make your own tea bag from looseleaf tea. You also order at the counter and then find your own seat. It's a small operation and that didn't bother me. The only thing is there wasn't a bathroom, or maybe it was through the kitchen? That seems like a health code violation to me, but oh well.
