Another disgusting power monopoly. SRP, like all power monopolies, is allowed to pass on all costs to build and maintain their grid to their customers. Then they are further rewarded by being allowed to jack up the rates during the summer. This is a supposedly non-profit company that pays its CEO a $1 million salary and its president a $220k salary (reduced after word got out that they wanted to increase it further). These same people have also in turn done everything in their power to kill solar and punish anyone going to solar by pushing required rate plans specifically designed to make solar unaffordable with heavy demand charges, rate charges and an inflated service fee, the worst in the country. It has worked exactly as they designed it to, solar installations dropped to a tiny fraction of what they were prior to the changes. Despite all of the money they are getting my power in the South Scottsdale area has had numerous outages in the 5 years I've lived there. Can't say I have a whole lot of positive to say about this company other than they are cheaper than APS which isn't saying much, and that's as long as you don't try to go solar. Maybe I'll just go fully off grid and be done with them entirely. read more

Where do you begin with this company? Putting themselves before the ratepayer to protect their monopoly is all they do now a days. I have never seen such a well respected company turn a 180 this quickly. They buy things before they know how to pay for them with the assumption that they will ALWAYS hike rates every other year. They put in place anti-solar fees (demand based charges) that make going solar more difficult to understand. Rather than adopt ways to work with rooftop solar-- they encourage you to only buy it through their "community solar" program (off site). The sad part is, as much as I hate this company-- theres not much I can do aside from saving up my money and going off grid. I am appalled at their antics and the fact they are so corrupt. First some back story. I live with some roommates, I'm a college student, so all the rooms are sub leased. One of my roommates use to have a srp account but allowed it to go to collections (keep in mind her debt was already in collections in her name). I paid the deposit required to have it put in my name so we could be on a plan and paying for mpower. Then one day i get a letter informing me that i owe srp my roomates debt. I was never informed of this during the process of setting up an account at any time. Why should I have somebody elses debt in my name, this debt was never mine. SRP you are theifs! If SRP wasn't a monopoly I would gladly switch to another electric company. read more

So, so very thankful that Salt River Project sent their electrical repair team to Lake Island this afternoon to correct/replace the worn electrical wire that was shorting out and leaving 4 homes - including mine- with low or no power for lights or appliances. Within the first hour of calling for repair a team of four men were on our street determining the source of the problem and then digging up the old wire and replacing it. It was a tedious job and was raining the entire time. The team showed up shortly after 4:00pm. I left at 7:00pm to go to a movie so I wouldn't have to sit in the dark. SRP had to turn off the electric to the homes involved with the problem. I returned around 9:00pm and they were still digging to make sure they got all the bad wire. They knew they would have to come back if it wasn't done right. At approximately 9:30pm they completed the wire repair/replacement and were on their way to the next home with electrical problems because of the rain. These men were friendly , knowledgeable and competent. I was so worried my house had wires which shorted because of the rain and I would have to hire an electrician but SRP found the wiring problem was theirs and took care of it. SRP has demonstrated their willingness to demonize first adopter solar customers, whom they encouraged to put solar on their homes up to as recently as mid 2014. Solar incentives were phased out years ago but implementation rates continued to rise due to solar price reductions. As a result SRP has decided the solar they used to encourage and the customers they used to partner with, is now a problem in spite of still less than 2% of their customers having solar. During the public comment period proposing the recent rate changes, they said their recent rate changes would not affect solar installations. As it turns out, the data shows just the opposite. In 2014 they averaged 400-500 installations a month. Since December 8, 2014 there have been a total of 58 over a period of nearly 5 months! That is the definition of killing an industry in SRP territory, which happens to sit literally in the sunniest state in the union with an average of 330 days of sunshine. SRP used to have integrity at some level. That is out the window. If I had a way to be free from this monopoly utility, I would be. Technology may just give me that chance in the very near future with Solar + Storage coming on line. I must be the only one in my neighborhood that has faulty service. I have between 8 and 15 outage a month, but all of my neighbors have power. I get more text messages telling me my house is in an outage area than I get junk mail, but every time I go out my whole damn block has power. I've called so many times that I'm starting to think my number is screened. I don't see how they can justify charging me the bs summer rates when I don't even bother resetting the clocks on my appliances because my power goes out so frequently. When I call I get the same run around, "please call between 9 and 4 to talk to our public works department" just to be told the same information I got in the text message. 3 hours into this current outage, it's a swamp in my house right now, and I won't have power again until after I've already gone to work. If I didn't have to use this crooked company I would have changed providers after my first month. read more

I called SRP yesterday and spoke with the supervisor named Ricardo who could not give me any more information about himself. He acted like he didn't care and didn't even explain anything to me about the problem with my account even though I am an unsatisfied paying customer. My issue was that my sister Rosemary had an account with SRP from February 2017-June 2017 and she owed way before February 2017 so SRP decided to put her debt on my account because at some point we had the same address. So when I asked about the account and information Ricardo said he couldn't give me any information except for the balance and that it is my debt and problem now. I told him that I wanted to take a survey at the end of the phone call and he almost laughed and said there is no survey at the end. There was a survey which I did take and gave them the lowest rating. I am so unsatisfied with SRP and I will be telling everyone I know about my bad experience as a customer. read more

The more I deal with SRP the more I absolutely hate this company. Their policies toward people who suddenly experience arrears from summer billings are appallingly abusive and EXPENSIVE. Deposit requirements are beyond the reach of most consumers, and businesses are absolutely ripped to pieces by even more outrageous deposits. Upset at being charged more? They don't' care. Enraged at being forced into difficult and inconvenient programs zero flexibility? They don't care. SRP is a money vacuum with mafia like disregard for customers. I can't stand them. read more

------- Fraudulent - as defined by Merriam-Webster: done to trick someone for the purpose of getting something valuable ------- This review is rated at 2 stars, only because customer service actually compromised. I still believe their practices to be dishonest and FRAUDULENT. My home has a smart meter installed. I pay attention to the website, including the amount of electricity I use each day and hour. Before leaving for vacation in the last week of July I noticed that the website had not updated with the prior day's readings. Sometimes it takes a couple days for the updates, so I was not concerned. I turned my air conditioners off, unplugged all items and left for a 5 day vacation. I received calls from an individual watching my property that my electricity had gone off twice, this was obvious because I have a pond with a waterfall that stopped functioning. I returned home to find puddles of water under both freezers (garage and kitchen units). Both clearly were not operating for a significant amount of time in order for all the ice to have melted. After cleaning up, unpacking and getting some sleep, I logged in to SRP's website to look at my energy usage history in hopes of being able to determine when my electricity was off (I suspect an electrician that worked at my home during my absence made a mistake causing a short in my system). There was no recorded usage during my entire trip. I phoned SRP and explained everything. They admitted that they could see the smart meter was not working. They said they would look into the situation, but had made notes of our conversation and would see that my bill was adjusted to reflect my vacation instead of just averaging my usage to fill in the blanks. I logged in a couple days later and noticed that for all the days since the meter had stopped working, there were now random numbers of usage! Every single day had slightly more usage than my prior weeks and the prime time usage numbers were all higher than my previous real usage. I phoned SRP and advised that I felt their practices of making up time and then trying to blend it in each day to look like real usage was a horrifying lie and a fraudulent practice. They noted my account and assured me everything would be considered when my bill was produced. They never addressed their misleading billing practice. When the meter was replaced on the 13th or 14th of August, I asked the SRP employee why nobody responded sooner since I told them on the 5th that my meter wasn't working. She advised that they actually knew before that, but had so many meter replacement calls they just get to them as quickly as possible. She showed me the list! SRP was not receiving reads from my meter from July 30 through the 13th or 14th because that was the soonest they felt they could get to the issue. When I phoned SRP today to further address the issue of my bill being higher than could be justified, the individual indicated that she could see I did not have a working meter until August 17th!! ------- SRP was manually entering false usage for every single day that their unit did not send data!! They do this will all their meters when they stop working. They do this to every customer. This is a common practice for them. Be aware of your energy use and watch them. Closely. ------- There are more points to this story and I wish I could attach screenshots, but as you can see it is too long already. I hope I have assisted somebody in realizing that even with something that should be black and white, like how much energy you use, you MUST watch your back. It is absolutely insane that companies can get away with these unethical practices. Which, in my opinion should not be legal. Their position is that they must estimate energy use in order to bill fairly. If they are able to take such a stance, perhaps the customer should take the opposite position; If SRP does not have a record that energy was used, then they cannot prove that ANY electricity was used. I think they should be held to more equitable standard. Perhaps if their mistakes were less profitable they would be prompted to make repairs more quickly. read more

I've been an SRP customer for over 15 yrs. When I first moved to the "Valley of the Sun" they were seen as a great community asset that has brought electricity and water to AZ for many years. They however have made a 180 degree turn to protect their monopoly by imposing egregious fees on solar customers. They are not regulated by anyone in the state so unless we can get some state representatives to get involved, there really is nothing that can be done to stop them. The elections process that was setup in 1937 needs to be adjusted as entire communities in the "Valley of the Sun" (greater Phoenix area), are not able to vote for members of the board or run as candidates on the board. They need to innovate and adapt to new distributed energy technology or continue pushing people away from them and eventually become extinct. From the actions they have taken so far, it appears that they have chosen the path of extinction. read more
