Very disappointing visit. I came in to place a to-go order and was immediately asked if I was picking up, instead of being greeted with a simple "hello" or "welcome." The customer service was lacking, and although the staff seemed overwhelmed, the restaurant was not busy at all. After placing my order, I was informed less than 10 minutes later that the item was no longer available, which was surprising. I ordered a basic bolognese, and it's hard to understand how such standard ingredients would run out three hours before closing. Salt & Spoon has always intrigued with their continuously high ratings since they opened. I finally got a chance to sample their menu and can see why they are getting all this love. First off, the interior is really simple which can throw you off as the menu is a bit fancier than one would expect. We went on a Tuesday, so it was a bit quiet with only one other party dining there when we walked in. We were greeted immediately and had our choice of seats. * Parmesan Truffle Fries $12 - We got the larger order (small order is $6) and shared it. You definitely get that truffle oil and the parmesan is nicely shaved over it. * Asian Chicken Salad $18 - It's been a long time since I had an Asian Chicken Salad and it did not disappoint. Loaded with wonton strips on top, it was fresh and filling. * Miso Salmon Salt & Spoon Bowl $23 - My friend got this dish as he initially saw it when he was searching for restaurants to eat at. The salmon portion was super generous and looked amazingly moist. He said it was great and would definitely get it again. And it sat on what he described as a fried brown rice, which he also liked. It looks like their menu changes for the weekend as they are not open for dinner then. So it's more of a brunch menu on the weekends. I was curious about their Mushroom Risotto but did not see it on their current menu. Service was top notch. The only server working checked on us so many times, pretty much every time she passed by she had her eye on us. And it wasn't annoying either, she made it comfortable and not intrusive. As she was about to serve the other table their dessert, she made a point of showing it to us as a way to entice us. Very smart and it almost worked! Based on the ratings, I'm actually really surprised with our experience at Salt & Spoon. First, I want to start out with what was great. And that was the direct customer service. Our waitress was new and training but was super attentive and friendly, and the man at the counter who also waited on us was also very nice. Between the two of them, we felt like they were always there to check in on us, but not in an overbearing way. They were prompt to grab items we needed (like new utensils when some fell on the floor), and they were also fair when there was a menu discrepancy on the kids menu about drinks (btw, the restaurant owner should remove the wording about the drinks being included with the kids menu items if that has officially changed). Aside from that, everything else was pretty poor. The food itself was just not good, especially for the price. I got the Asian chicken salad, and for almost $20, I felt like it was so below average. The chicken itself was tough and actually unpleasant to eat. The only reason I finished it was because I hate wasting food and was starving and pregnant. I think the only thing I actually enjoyed in the salad were the mandarin oranges. My husband thought his Caesar salad was also below average. I guess we have to keep in mind that he has often made his own Caesar dressing and salads at home from scratch with high-quality ingredients, so his standards are pretty high. But again, for that price, it definitely was not worth it. The kids' breakfast platter was not that great either. The bacon was overcooked and hard. The toast was a bit hard too, but that could've just been it being sourdough. My daughter usually loves eggs, but she was not a fan of the ones here. The one thing they both enjoyed that was good was the strawberry jam. All-in-all, I left the restaurant feeling really underwhelmed with the food and wishing we'd gone somewhere else. The other big issue was the wait time. For similar orders (and even more complex orders) in other restaurants, it has taken a fraction of the wait time. We had planned for one hour to eat, but we had to wait over 30 minutes for two basic salads and a simple kids breakfast platter. The place wasn't that busy, so maybe they were understaffed? Either way, for that wait time, you'd simply expect better food at the very least. As far as the restaurant itself, it's not what I expected, but it was okay. The decor is very basic and plain and didn't seem like much thought was put into the look and feel. But it was definitely clean, and the waitress and other staff did an excellent job making sure to keep the tables tidy. All of that being said, I don't plan to come here again. The only reason I'd have to come here again is the really nice staff. But that's it. Unfortunately, a restaurant requires more than that for me to be willing to spend money there. read more

Finally tried this place! We went around brunch time and it was still pretty chill. About an hour later it picked up around lunch time. I've been to Salt & Spoon a few times now but never got around to leaving a review, figured it was time lol. This time I ordered through DoorDash and picked it up. I got the breakfast plate and the steak & eggs. Everything was so good! The steak was cooked just right and the chimichurri sauce on top? Fire. The hard scrambled eggs came out perfect, not dry or rubbery. The chimichurri potatoes were crazy good! I could honestly eat a whole bowl of those. Bacon and muffin were also on point. It was busy when I walked in (it's Sunday so of course everyone's out eating), but my food was still ready in a decent amount of time which I really appreciated. Unfortunately, I ordered the pesto pasta and it was so bad, in my opinion. They really need to change this recipe or remove it altogether. It was a challenge to swallow each bite....so saturated in pesto (the entire pasta just tasted like pesto, as if you're just eating spoonfuls of it) and it was so salty. 3 of us went on a Saturday and found that on the weekend they have a brunch menu. It was about 4:15 when we arrived, and they do a last call at 4:30 because they close at 5ish ( depending on if they still have guests in their restaurant). We were served by Andrew and he was great in answering our questions and attending to the basics of the table. We ordered to share the beet salad and my mom and I split their burger and we did regular fries not truffle fries. They were delicious. My dad got steak and eggs and said it was good. The food was ample, fresh and nicely plated. I wish I knew it was a brunch menu, because it wasn't listed on yelp that the menu was different. This is a restaurant with potential, but currently is not the go-to American spot in the southwest (we desperately need a good one to mix it up with the amazing Asian restaurants in the area). My waffles also had the old grease taste, not sure if the fried chicken grease dripped onto the waffles. We also got bulgogi fries, which were great. The fries themselves were excellent, reminded me of McDonald's fries, which are my personal favorite fast food fry. I would've given the spot 4 stars if the environment was more comfortable. The interior was a little disappointing; it looked like a DIY project. The service was A+++ The chef and the server really went out of their way to make us feel welcome, and tried very hard to take care of our needs. The chef even showed us how to turn the high chair upside down to accommodate the baby seat. We went for a birthday celebration as everyone had different food concerns. I would have liked to try some of the pasta dishes, but I don't do too well with heavy milk products such as the cream sauces and I don't eat meat. Instead I had the salmon a là carte (perfectly done) and the Caesar Salad, with the to die for French bread with Parmesan and seasoning! The salad has a deep anchovy taste and for purists it will fill your happy place. For me however, it was too much anchovy. The wine that Alicia advised me to try (a white Spanish wine I believe) married perfectly. I also had hot tea on the side. I will rate this per the items that I ate and not everyone else's. Made special trip since the location was so highly rated. Came in shortly after the lunch hour (1:30PM) and found the place was hopping. The location is in a strip mall and parking was a breeze. The restaurant itself is not very big but nice and clean. Server was very polite and did her best to keep up with the packed restaurant. My wife ordered the hamburger and I had the chilean sea bass. Both entrees were worthy is a top notch restaurant, the burger was juicy and very tasty it was accompanied with truffle fries and they were also very tasty. The sea bass flavorful and it was presented on a bed of spinach which made it more of a gourmet item. A few weekends ago, we decided to stop in and try out Salt & Spoon. We've had a few places that we wanted to try out, but always forget about, and Salt & Spoon was on that list. So here's the deal. I'd really like to give 3.5 stars , but really didn't feel rounding up to 4 was appropriate, even though the food was really tasty. Salt & Spoon is a small, cute restaurant that is bright, clean, and open. The location is in a strip mall, not horribly far from our house. We went and ordered a strawberry lemonade, the mushroom risotto, calamari appetizer, and the crab pasta. Let me start by saying that service was nice, and pretty prompt, and the food tasted really good. The mushroom risotto is not to be missed. The rice was cooked absolutely perfectly, it had a generous helping of mushrooms, and lots of parmesan goodness. The calamari was really good too. The addition of the little pepper bits was super nice. Where we lose some points is the crab pasta. The menu didn't mention crab anywhere but the name, so we asked, just to be sure "Is there actually crab in this?" and our served responded with yes, real crab. The problem was that it was canned crab. So here's the good about the dish: The pasta was cooked perfectly. The sauce was really nice. And there was a lot of crab...BUT...since it was canned crab, it was kind of "shreddy" if that makes sense...and it absolutely got lost in the sauce. It ended up being kind of mushy and a mess. Yes, you got crab flavor, but for $26...it just wasn't worth that price to us. In our opinion, they'd be better off getting 2 nice snow crab legs, putting the meat on top whole, and charging $28-30 for fresh crab. That would have made all the difference. Will we come back? Probably. Like I said the food was good, and they source fresh ingredients from California (I struggle to say "Local" when talking about Cali, but that's just me lol). We definitely won't be getting the crab pasta again though, its just not worth the money. One of our absolute favorite restaurants in Vegas. We eat here at least once a week and it never disappoints.
