I came in the next day to have my big toe repolished that was messed up, even though I sat under the dryer for 20 solid minutes and, went home to relax (no shoes) rest of day. I came in and couldn't find the color I used and they basically acted like "oh well." The color I had was not on the shelf and so, I had to go with a color that was not it. The lack of care is what gets me. I paid $50 plus tip for a pedicure. I expect it to last!!!! read more

I would love to continue having Thao's services but refuse to put up with the rudeness of trying to get an appointment. Ugh, I hate that I even have to do this considering how excited I was getting my nails done the first time around. This time, not so much. Came back for another dipped manicure and pedicure. The pedicure was great. The manicure on the other hand was a bit rough. The tech did a great job with the design I found online. But before we started I made it very clear to be gentle with my cuticles because I've had experiences in the past where I suffer from inflammation and irritation due to rough handling. The tech said he understood and proceeded with the work. The manicure was ok, but there were multiple moments where the tech was pushing down my cuticle with his sharp nail and telling me that he's just trying to "stretch it out". In the moment it wasn't bad, but once I got home and washed my hands and used sanitizer my fingers were burning all over. Multiple cuts starting arising around where he stretched out the skin the most. And now, there is pus starting to develop under different nails that were worked on. I didn't have this issue last time I came, so I'm contributing it to the work done on my nails this time around. Unfortunately I won't be getting my nails done here again unless the young lady who did them the first time does them (I don't remember her name). She was very gentle, no cuts and no pain after service. The pics make it hard to see the irritation on film, but I tried my hardest to show the difference. I just moved here from LA and wasn't sure if I'd be able to find a place here that I was going to like (no disrespect to central Illinois but LA is kind of the beauty/trend mecca of the world). This salon actually had a whole system in place from check-in to check-out which made the service super organized and safe (respecting covid regulations with hand wash station upon arrival, temperature check, social distancing & signs everywhere). I also had a unique nail situation where I broke my nail pretty deep in the nail bed and had a fake nail on it from LA that needed to be removed. My nail tech Katie was able to remove it without causing any pain or discomfort and took her time carefully filing it down & checking in with me to make sure I did not feel any pain. I really appreciated her going over it a few extra times just to be 100% sure that it was good. I love my gel manicure and I'm so happy to have found this place and will definitely be coming back! No matter who has been my nail technician, I have always had excellent service. I have a recurring problem with ingrown nails on my big toe and they are always able to remove them for me. I've gone in all seasons and their service has always been top notch. I appreciate the Sunday hours during the spring and summer! If I had a gripe, it wouldn't be on the employees- it's the few customers who talk on their phones despite the sign requesting they do not do this. I've been here twice. My coworkers recommended this place. The first time was pretty good. The lady did a good job and my nails looked good after. This time was a different lady and she wasn't good. I had the sport mani and pedi and gel manicure. The massage part was more like 10% massage, 90% rubbing in the lotion. On my pedi she dug into my toe a little too much and made me bleed. She did not do a good job painting my nails either. She kind of rushed it. She didn't even paint my entire nail. Along the cuticle and on the sides some. I asked her to paint the entire nail and she kind of did on one nail but I don't think she understand what I meant. The overall paint job was not the best. I understand things are different bc of covid but I paid $75 and got pretty low quality. The pic is 3 days after and it already looks like my nails have grown out. ****update the salon offered to fix my nails. The tech I had was a whole lot better. She completely redid my mani and pedi including the entire sport portion with the massaging, not just the polish, which I told them just a new polish would be fine. She took her time with the massaging and polish and now they look really great! The massage part was really good. She almost put me to sleep! Katie, the tech, was nice and talkative. They were attentive, listened to our needs, offered us drinks, and most importantly, they took care of my nails. I hadn't had my nails done in months because they were so damaged. My daughter surprised me and took me to salon xpression and I am so grateful she did. My daughter had Paul and I had Kelly, she was so gentle, she didn't drill my nails to death. They were exactly what I asked for! Both Paul and Kelly did a fantastic job on our nails. I will definitely be back. tl;dr: nail tech ripped off part of my nail, did a poor and streaky job, and was very rude after I expressed my complaints. I've been coming here for over a year, and recently was treated incredibly rudely. I asked for an xpress mani and pedi, and the nail tech put almost no effort into it. None of my nails were filed smoothly and they all varied in shape, length, and size. My cuticles were never trimmed and the nail polish residue all over my fingers and toes was not cleaned. Every nail was slanting a different direction. While removing my old dip, the technician ripped part of my nail off, resulting in jagged edges that he didn't bother filing. He was even showing me how the dip ripped off each nail, which was annoying because although it might be fun to tear dip off of someone's nail, it kinda hurts and weakens the structure. This is all for $48. I didn't even complain for any of this, because I really liked this place and had good technicians before. When I was waiting for my nails to dry, the nail tech kept telling me I was done and good to go, although I felt the nail to be tacky. I knew they would smudge, but he was pressuring me to leave, so I reached for my card and....my nails smudged. I asked for top coat to fix it MYSELF because I still didn't want to complain too much, but the hostess told me the technician would take care of it again. As he fixed my nail, the nail tech told me I shouldn't have touched anything and that I should get dip. I tried to explain I was trying to grow out my nails from dip, but he kept chiding me about not touching things. He was the one who told me I was done drying and should leave! In "fixing" my nails, the tech also got several fibers stuck in the polish and his work got messier and messier. Eventually I just accepted whatever he did and left because the shop was due to close in 30 min. I still got charged for the dip removal, although he broke my nail doing that. When I didn't tip for the sloppy job, the hostess was very cold, even when I tried to thank her for her time. Basically I paid $48 for this mess, and to be treated poorly when I have never tipped less than 15% before and I come about twice a month all year round. I've dealt with worse technique before, but for $48 and to deal with that attitude, I felt shortchanged. read more

I went to Xpress Salon Sunday morning (April 14) to get a pedicure. I would have shared this review sooner, but I've had a very busy schedule. I arrived and signed in at 11:09 am for a charcoal pedicure. After choosing my polish color, I was taken to chair #5 about 10 minutes later where my feet sat in water until around 11:58 am. The gentleman who did my pedicure made me feel uncomfortable as soon as he started. He lifted my feet to try to shame them. First of all, that's why I'm here! I don't need a pedicure and a show. I can absolutely do without the unnecessary commentary. He consistently made comments and I was annoyed, even expressing to him that I was very aware of how my feet looked and didn't need a play by play. Then, he said if I lost weight it would be better for my feet. I just started at him. Look, I'm determined not to cause a scene in public businesses...even if it may be warranted. I had to leave for work afterwards so I didn't have the energy to invest in the drama. After my nails dried, I paid and asked the young lady at the front desk if I could speak to her once she was done on the phone. She said yes and when she attempted to speak with me, another gentleman sent her to do something else and asked me what i wanted. I told him I wanted to speak with her. He said she was busy (or something like that) and he could help. I said no thank you because I wanted to speak with the young lady because1) she was a lady and would better understand my concerns and 2) she was a fluent English speaker who I assumed I'd would be able to converse with without language barriers. But, I left because I had to get to work. I gave it two stars because the pedicure was ok. Basically, I won't be giving them my business ever again. I suggest others think about giving them business as well. My hope was to remedy the situation in shop, but I was left having to share this review instead. read more

Worst mani/pedi of my life. THIS PLACE DOES NOT USE FRESH TOOLS ON EACH PERSON. IVE EXPERIENCED THIS ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION. Informed technician of a blister from shoes on my foot, asked tech to leave it be. Technician asked if it was painful I said yes. A few minutes later the tech started picking at the blister with cuticle cutters that were NOT FRESH TOOLS. Absolutely horrifying. Moving onto my manicure, polish is far too thick and shape is just plain bad and it took over an hour for a no chip manicure with NO soak off?? Just for it to look terrible. At the end of the mani, technician spilled bowl of water on me (accidents happen, I get it!) but then proceeded to wipe the table up and then walk away...without acknowledging the fact I got wet. Did not offer me a towel or anything!!? Walking out unhappy that I paid for this service ($75) and it reminded me why I stopped going here a couple years ago. read more

I told the lady who is in charge and handles all of the appointments about it. She came over and looked at my toe and walked away. She did not say sorry or anything. This salon should win some kind of community award for its COVID procedures! Everyone wears a mask, patrons have their temperatures taken and have to wash their hands when they come in, there are plexiglass screens everywhere. Update! Still love this place! Just came in for an ombré blue/white color for the summer and it was done so beautifully. I love this place! I always get the dip manicure and they're so gorgeous! Paul is seriously an artist who takes his time, never rushes, and always does a great job! They always ask me if I water (or if you prefer, wine) and give me suggestions for my nails. They're very professional and knowledgeable about the latest styles. It can get pretty crazy over the weekend - so I always come in the afternoon during the weekdays. It really wasn't even a massage, just quickly rubbing lotion into the skin on my calves and shins. Every time I thought I'd get a foot massage, nope, back to the shins. I called in to inquire about price to fix my nails after having not liked how they were done elsewhere and instead of asking about the issue and giving me options the person on the phone raised her voice at me immediately thinking her salon did them. This is easily the best nail salon I've ever been to, that's including salons in Chicago and St Louis. Went there last minute for gel (no chip) nail polish and there were so many colors to choose from and the technician was perfect. I cannot praise her enough for her skills, my nails look amazing and they are exactly what I wanted. She was even able to save one of my nails that had broke earlier in the day. Will for sure be going back in the future. Edit: I dropped it by a star because my no chip chipped in 5 days. Still was a fantastic experience. So tell me... is the new meaning of "no chip" chip in 48 hours? Because that's what my friend and I received. I have been getting my nails done for years back home, receiving the "no chip" treatment for as long as it's been an option. I have never had them chip so fast. I mean this was a record amount of time by a landslide. When I left with my friend, hers weren't cleaned up around the nail, leaving much nail polish on the skin. While I initially thought mine looked good, I quickly realized that the filing of the nails they did AFTER applying the nail color removed the seal at the edge of the nail. This is why I believe the nail polish came off so quickly. Now that 4 of my 10 nails were chipped after less than a week, I returned to the salon to have them fixed. My friend returned as well since hers had also chipped and discolored. For me, all that was done was the top layer of the nails were removed (I had to indicate exactly which to fix), and nail polish was placed over where it had chipped. No shock... the next morning after waking up from bed, I found that one of my nails that was "fixed" was cracked around where it broke last. I called later that day to complain about the poor service I had received TWICE and was told to come in again to get them fixed. Now, more of my nails, both redone and not, were chipped. Now the THIRD day in the span of a week, I arrived at the salon asking if I could have all the polish removed from my hands and receive a refund or have both hands completely redone. I was ignored about the refund and told I would get them redone. An hour & a half later, I walked out with them completely redone after two people worked on them. One of the people was the person who did my nails the first time, and the other got up no less than 5 times without any explanation, saying sorry only once, and providing no further conversation except a look of what can only be referred to as RBF. While they were busy, it is no excuse for poor service when a customer has had to return twice. I spent over 3 hours in the salon to receive a 30-45 minute service. Literally my worst nail experience ever. The skin by my nails is literally cut and bled a little on almost all of my nails. The top coat was not only flooded along the cuticle of all my nails, but also the sides. I have no doubt that they're going to start peeling up soon because of that. Also the person doing my nails applied like three layers of top coat and it burned so bad. It was $40 dollars before tip. I came here because of the good reviews, but I wish I had read more of the bad ones. read more

They buffed my natural nails to the point my fingers still hurt and my nails are now so thin they bend. If they get out the buffer for your natural nails- RUN!
