I got my hair dyed here on sept 9th 2023- I never leave reviews, but after going through so much trouble just to fix my hair these past few years I thought I'd inform others... Got my haircut sept 2nd which was great-- can't remember if it was Nicolette or Natalie but the stylist was super transparent with me which I loved. The hair color is a different story. I was going from brunette to a full head of blonde highlights, my colorist was Terry, and she destroyed my hair completely. This was my first time dying my hair, she told me she used 4 different types of bleach in my head so I didn't know (at the time) that this was BAD. She put me under the hood dryer and left, my nose and eyes were burning so badly from the bleach I could barely breathe, I had to find a different stylist just to ask if I can be done with that thing. As we were looking at my color in the mirror, I tried to ask her nicely why the highlights look "choppy" on the top of my head-- I was NOT happy with them. She basically tried to gaslight me and said that it's supposed to look that way because I wanted highlights?? The highlights were uneven on both sides of my head, and my hair was YELLOW. To top it off, she got bleach stains on my sweatshirt, even though I had a cover on. How do you even manage to do that? Terry was nice/welcoming from the beginning, and I still tipped her 20% because this was my first time and I was clueless. But I NEVER went back after that experience. Could've gotten some sort of reimbursement for my sweatshirt at least because that was plain messed up. If you have darker hair and want to go lighter or blonde, please DO NOT go to Terry. read more

I have naturally very dark hair and have dyed it blue-black over the years. Two weeks ago I impulsively decided I wanted a change for the spring time, to go from black to cherry red, and chose to go to Salon Norman Dee as I had found this salon years ago and never had any issues. Due to my previous hair dyes, I was informed it would take multiple sessions but at the very least I would leave with a cohesive even color, unfortunately, that was not the case. I sat at this salon for 5hrs...five hours...my entire head was bleached and this was the result I was left with. Due to my own personal time constraint I was unable to be fit in for a cut/blow dry, nonetheless, I sat at the salon for 5hrs to be left with horrible, dry, damaged, and unevenly colored hair, all at the cost of $300. I contacted the owner, Christy, who had requested for me to return, but considering the circumstances I was hesitant and rightfully so. I chose to go to a different salon to have my hair corrected, and they were heaven sent. In the same 5hrs Salon Norman Dee took to destroy my hair, this other salon not only properly bleached it, but dyed it, applied a hydration treatment, and gave me a cut/blow dry...all within 5hrs. I have waited for a response from Christy for 3 days now, don't expect any sort of compensation/reimbursement even if you paid for a service that was not provided. Zen, the hairdresser I was scheduled with, was very nice but the scheduler did not appropriately prepare Zen for what I needed. Also did not tell me what I needed to do to prepare for my appointment. I went to the salon for trial hair and makeup for my wedding. The scheduler told me it would only take an hour when I scheduled.i also asked what I needed to do to be prepared. I was told nothing and I was not asked any question other than the date of my wedding. I brought my wedding hair piece and my extensions. I arrived on time with freshly washed hair which is naturally curly. I plan to maintain my curls for my wedding day with a style half up and half down. Since my hair was wet, Zen decided to blow it out and then curl it with an iron. I have a lot of hair and blowing it out roughly just creates a frizzy mess. At the end of 45 minutes it was clear that more time wasn't going to fix or help the situation and we opted to stop and try another day and I continued onto my makeup trial. I no way did I think this was Zens fault since she was not aware of my hair type or length until I arrived. When my makeup was finished, I went to the desk to reschedule a trial for my hair, to come in with my hair fully styled for Zen to start from. I was then told I was being charged $43 for the hair style which was not close to being styled. I asked for a manager. Chris, stating she was the owner, explained that even tho I had not received the service as scheduled, I was still expected to pay. Not only is Chris not a hairstylist with knowledge of hair she is also an unskilled manager and business owner. Chris was disrespectful to my maid of honor. I explained I had no issue tipping Zen for her time but felt I should not be charged for any hair style I had not received. Needless to say, I cancelled all future appointments. My makeup was nice and I did tip both Zen and Kerri $20 each. I felt bad that their manager failed to support her staff in succeeding while being ignorant to feedback. In the end I was forced to pay for the hairstyle I never received and when I left I had to put my hair up in a bun since I had other appointments to go to. I paid for my makeup session without an issue as I did receive that service. If the receptionists were trained appropriately for what information they should provide to clients for wedding or prom trials as well as question to ask the clients when they call to schedule, Zen would have had a chance to do her best. Terry butchered her clients color, then when the client returned for Terry to correct it she was met with Terry's nasty side. Terry humiliated her client, treating her badly and speaking to her as if the client caused the problem, then Terry forced the client to blow out her own hair while Terry watched. I'll start by saying how much I love Terry for highlighting my hair. She's amazing, listens to what I want and is very personable. Unfortunately, that's the only good thing I have to say. I had my hair done a little less than a month ago. The guy who cut my hair completely destroyed it! I asked for some layers just to give it some body and framing around my face. He cut layers so short they literally just sit on top of my hair. They don't blend at all. I have had to wear my hair up in a ponytail everyday since my haircut. Of course you really don't realize how bad it is until long after you've left. It seemed fine (a little shorter than usual) until I washed my hair and tried to style it on my own. I'm not fancy. I wash it, blow dry it and straighten it. I'm in tears whenever I attempt to do anything other than pull it back. I'm praying for it to miraculously grow back in overnight. It has literally been years since I liked my hair. My highlights wer either over or under done and the cut was never even close to the picture that I brought (I have medium length hair and wanted a face-framing bob). Someone I know recommended Patti at Norman D's. So, I figured I would give her a try, after all I never liked my hair afterwards anyhow. OMG!! What an awesome job she did. The highlighting is exactly the shading that was in the picture that I showed her. And the cut? The best one I have ever had. For the first time in years I don't have to struggle to style it. Second and third day? - still looks good. Windy day? - I can use my fingers to arrange it back. I am praying that she is consistent and I will not hesitate to rebook with her. read more

I always mean to rate this salon and I finally remembered! I come here a few times a year for highlights, haircuts and blow drys. Christy is THE BEST colorist! She transformed my box-color black hair with highlights and after 3-4 sessions my hair is back to natural brown with blonde highlights and you would have never known my hair suffered years of $5 box-color. Each time I received highlights they came out awesome and not brassy considering the circumstances. She's really good at her job, thank you Christy! Also, I have received haircuts from Natalie, Dawn, Sara and Noreen (my fav!) and they all do a fantastic job and are very consistent and lovely to chat with. I really like the overall vibe of this salon. The stylists are so pleasant to guests and each other and rarely appear rushed or overwhelmed. Ok so let me start by saying that the girls I had do my hair were absolutely great. Cate did my color and Nicolette did my cut. They were very personable and did an excellent job with my hair. I love it a lot. The color and cut is great. My complaint is that my hair feels extremely dry and overly processed and still does. I've used a lot of conditioner and my hair still feels disgusting. Not sure if this will eventually fade. It's been 3 days and it hasn't faded yet. I've never had this issue anywhere else before. The waiting area is extremely uncomfortable. I went early because it didn't make sense to go home after dropping my daughter off at preschool. My back was so painful after sitting in those chairs. The greeting I received when I walked in left a lot to be desired. The lady acted like she didn't want to be there. She was a little better when I left so I chalked this up to her not having her coffee yet. When I went to pay I almost fell over. $160 for color and cut!!!! The most I've paid was $120-$130 for master colorists and stylists to do it at other salons so that seemed a little much. I was then told that I couldn't put the tip on my card!!! What?!?!? Why wouldn't you tell clients this on the phone when scheduling appointments? Especially new clients. Most places you can and the ones you can't either tell you when scheduling or have ATM's inside their salon. I was told there was one at the Giant a couple doors down. I went to get cash. I was charged a ridiculous transaction fee of $3.50. I wasn't able to tip the girls as much because I was planning on using my credit card. So because of the practices of this business the girls lost out a little on the tip. Which is a shame. I was going to give them double of what I ended up giving. They do a great job so I recommend Cate and Nicolette a lot. Just be prepared with cash for a tip and be prepared to pay more than you would at most places. My mum got a hair cut and color very similar to mine and only paid $60. Granted her hair is not as thick as mine. I would go back but only when I have an extra buck to spend and I'll remember to bring cash. read more

This salon was a HUGE no for me. First I called multiple times to confirm my appointment time, the front desk never answered my calls but when I was there, every call was answered. When I walked in I was not greeted. No one said anything to me. Customer service here is TRASH! The girl who washed my hair didn't even put a cape on me. When the cape was put on for my haircut, it was put on backwards with my clothes exposed and I was covered in hair when I got up. I observed the other stylist with their clients, very talkative and kind. My stylist barely said anything to me and it was very obvious my stylist did not want anything to do with me. She cut my hair in less than 10 minutes and I was charged $48. I originally booked a haircut and blow out but when I saw how I was treated, I told my stylist to forget about the blowout and only do the cut. I left with a wet head but I refused to spend another minute in that horrible salon! Never again. read more

Had an appointment for eyebrow threading, gel manicure, and pedicure. The salon is very nice, modern, but that music is waaay tooo loud. You cannot hear each other talk!! The eyebrow lady was super nice. She did a nice job on my 1st threading. She did miss a few spots that i had to fix. For 15.00, i should not have to fix a thing. My manicure lady was very nice and personable but horrible pedicure and gel manicure. My heels are really ruff still and felt like it was hurried. The woman next to me was half way thru her pedicure when i sat down but we finished at the same time. For 65 bucks, its not worth it. I wanted to try a new place for something fresh and new. They don't have matching gel and polish color either. That took 20 min to find a similar color. Overall, save your money. Its too loud, not worth the price, and u will be sorry. For a $50 haircut this was not worth it. To start off, the Hair Washing staff is beyond rude. She barely even touched my scalp while she washed my hair. Then she broke my necklace when she aggressively pulled the towel off my neck. I unfortunately can't remember the woman who cut my hair's name, but she was very nice. I didn't ask for much. I essentially just wanted some inches off and side bangs. I had to go home and fix the bangs myself because I didn't like the way it looked afterwards. I came in last night to this salon for a gel manicure and the experience from entering the salon to getting out was great! I was greeted by a really nice girl who worked the front desk and didn't make me wait for my appointment, although I wouldn't have minded anyways! I was taking in the vibe and trendiness of the salon as I came in. There was Today's music playing in the background, very clean, and very welcoming. My manicurist was called Alina, and we hit it off really well! She was social and very patient at what I wanted to get out of my manicure. I wanted something different than a regular French Gel Manicure, and we talked about the different color combinations that would look well for me. I had gone to a previous nail salon and in comparison to Alina's style, Alina had taken her time with me and made sure that I left the nail salon happy and satisfied. I will definitely recommend Alina to ANYONE that wants a job well done for a manicure! Upon exiting the salon, the workers there were making sure that the work area was clean and presentable. I came in on 10/30 for a haircut w/ Julie & partial highlights w/ Bev through a recommendation of a family member. I showed Bev two pictures of what I wanted -balayage style dark & light caramel. I wanted my hair to be painted & not foil highlights. Bev assured me that she could accomplish what I wanted w/ foils. I trusted her & let her continue. She came out w/ only 1 color (bleach) & began highlighting my hair. Again, I thought maybe she would be able to pull pieces out & tone them differently to achieve what I wanted, which was not the case. She toned my hair & brought me over to Julie. Bev let Julie know that I was ready - she looks over at me & says, "I don't have a partial" which made me feel uncomfortable & was frankly unprofessional. I reconfirm that I specifically booked w/ her. A receptionist comes over to me & says, "You're going to be w/ Sarah." & pulls me to a seat. Really? I just told you I specifically booked w/ someone & you don't give me any explanation - you just plop me in someone else's chair? So, I re-explain my situation to the owner, Tabitha, who proceeds to tell me that I didn't book w/ anyone specifically, which is why I can't see Julie - which is incorrect & honestly, a lie. I re-explained that this is my first time at their salon & I specifically booked w/ Julie & Bev, which was confirmed when I walked in. She speaks w/ Julie again to see if she can take me, which she can't, then comes back to me & says that what actually happened is that my highlights took longer - She says I would see Sarah & they wouldn't charge me for an increase in costs because she is a senior stylist. I let her know that I was really disappointed in my experience - that I felt like I was just getting shuffled around. Tabitha apologized & said that I would have a great rest of my appointment. She brought over a free shampoo & conditioner as an apology. This was a nice gesture, but all I wanted was to have my hair done w/ Bev/Julie & get what I asked for, which didn't happen. I asked for highlights w/ dimension - 2 caramel colors. I got REALLY BLONDE highlights. The color was skunky- dark brown hair w/ really blonde highlights. At this point, I'm on the verge of tears. Sarah brought me to the owner Tabitha & I showed her the pictures, expressed my feelings and they said that it was a just that they didn't tone it long enough - simple fix. I showed the pictures to Bev again & she re-toned it. They dried a portion of my hair to check the color, which was now an ashy blonde. Again, NOTHING like what I wanted. At this point, I did cry. The whole reason that I got highlights is because I didn't want a lot of chemicals on my hair, not touching my roots, because I was 7.5 months pregnant at this time. This was supposed to be a relaxing & enjoyable experience & it was nothing but the opposite. Again, I'm talking to the owner, Tabitha, expressing my frustration, sadness & disappointment over the experience. She listed to me, but honestly, I really felt like she thought I just wasn't going to be happy w/ anything. She tried to say that the photos I was referencing showed warmer base tones & mine was a cooler tone, which would look different. I understand that my hair is not going to look exactly like the picture but it should not be night & day in terms of comparison. Also, if there was ANY hesitation, that this couldn't be done, I should have been told as soon as I sat down. Bev should have pulled out a book & showed me options that were reasonable. But what I wanted WAS reasonable - that's why that didn't happen. Tabitha then suggested I go home & keep it for a few days to see if it grew on me. Really? No! I had already been at the salon for HOURS. All I wanted was to finish this process & be done w/ it. At this point, another stylist, Liz, came over & actually listened to me. I showed her the photos & she agreed that it was nothing like the pictures. This was the only nice and refreshing portion of the day. She took over & toned me (for a 3rd time) & this was when I was comfortable leaving. Was it what I wanted? Absolutely not. But did it look terrible? No, it was fine to leave in. Let me just tell you that at this point, I had been at the salon for 6 HOURS. I got there at 9:30 am & it was now 3:30 pm. I was drained. I went to the front & Tabitha, the owner, checked me out. This is where I am still angry - she charged me for EVERYTHING, despite knowing what I went through & then pulled me aside to let me know that I didn't need to tip Bev because of the challenges. Bottom line, I should NOT have been charged for the color services. Or at least 50% off to pay for the actual materials used. My hair looked nothing like what I wanted it to, I wasted 6 hours in the salon, never even cut by who I booked w/... it was a terrible experience. I will never be back. Overall, some people love it but go at your own risk. If you don't like what you get - expect to pay the full price no matter what. read more

I had a really great experience. I made the stupid mistake of using boxed hair dye and ended up with bright red hair (which was fun, but not really okay for the office) so it was a mini disaster. I called on a Saturday, explained what happened, and asked if she had ANY available time to fit me in. They told me to come in when i could and they would check it out- that already was a good sign! It shows they care about the customers. The salon is really bright, pretty, and clean inside too. Everyone at the front desk is really nice and not snobby at all, which can be a pretty common thing to experience in salons. They offer you coffee and make you feel comfortable. I ended up getting a coloring with Gia, who was awesome. She was so friendly and down to earth and was honest about what to get done. I wanted to go lighter, back to my natural red, but she explained how damaging going lighter right now would be for my hair- which is great because some stylists will do what you want regardless and not look out for the health of your hair. She ended up toning down the vibrancy of the red so it wasn't as bright and i was happy with it! I got my hair cut with Sarah, who again was very friendly. It was only a trim so i can't comment on it too much but we also talked about hair extensions, since she does them there, and showed me one of the girls who had it done that works there and they looked great! The salon really values customer service and i liked that a lot. Everyone remembers your name and Gia asked me to come back and see her once my blow dry was finished, which just shows they care. All together it cost $100 for a trim and color- i'm not used to going all out so i don't know if it's "pricey" necessarily but it was worth it to me. I'll definitely be stopping back whether it's for color or extensions, and i would recommend trying this place out! read more

This was my first visit, and although there are not a ton of reviews posted, there were enough positive ones that I thought it was worth a try. I recently relocated to the Northeast and need a new salon. I called and spoke with Patti, who was able to fit me into their schedule today. Upon arriving I was greeted pleasantly by Noreen, my stylist, and taken for a brief consultation, then the shampoo chair, then back to her station. She was very nice, and listened to what I wanted well. I just wanted a trim off the overall length, some more layering, and some angling in the front. She also did an excellent blow dry style. From arrival to departure it was about 45 minutes, which for me, it just about the right amount of time. I think the price was worth the quality of the cut and service. Another great perk is that is it in a shopping complex, so there is ample parking. I'll definitely be going back for my next cut. read more

As long as things go well, it's okay. I've been a long time customer, and tried to look beyond a few recent issues. But this salon is not what it used to be. One colorist left me under a hot drier way past my time, because she forgot about me. Subsequently, my hair was burned and broke off. One of the hair stylists there, helped cut off the burned hair with gradual haircuts, until it grew back (which took the better part of a year). I paid for the haircuts, not to mention dearly, for their mistake. I never complained, and only the stylist who cut my hair was aware of what happened. Recently, my new colorist called out sick when I was walking out the door for my appointment. I accepted someone else do it. That person really messed up my hair, and my color turned orange. She tried 3 times that day to fix the problem area, and since my hair was still fragile, they could do no more that day, so I left in tears. They didn't charge me for ruining my hair (ha!!) but told me to come back when my colorist was there to correct the problem. I did, but they charged me through the roof to compensate, and my hair is still not back to normal. My colorist didn't want to do too much because of the condition of my hair, and said wait til next time. There will be no next time!! I am already scheduled at a reliable salon. It will take time for me to forget you, since I'll be nursing my hair back to normal, but you can no longer screw up and then take advantage of my good nature by charging me a ridiculous fee to try and correct your mistakes at my emotional and financial expense!!! read more

I guess it depends on who you get, but I had one and I was done. They are overpriced and not worth it. I went in for a cut, blow dry, and curl. with the trends going on you would think the younger stylists would have a sense of what to do. I asked for curls and I got these tight Shirley temple curls. I'm a 27 year old woman. She didn't even ask what kind I wanted. Why would any adult want that unless it's going in an updo? It ended up being $80 + tip. I will not be going back. read more

I will never let anyone but Christy touch my color. She's amazing, and she makes me look fantastic every five weeks. I see Sarah for a cut every six months or so (I grow it out and then want to chop it off, then grow back, then chop) and she is the first stylist I've ever found who can give me a style that I love, instead of just liking okay. Finally, I had an awesome updo with Natalie for a wedding a few months back and got SO many compliments. The prices are comparable with the service, and certainly less than Center City salons where I've had far more disappointing experiences. read more

This salon is the worst. They will greet you and smile in your face yes they are polite but the work is horrible. The lady who does nails is like 80 yrs old not that age matters but she was shaking and almost falling out of her chair. She didnt cut my cuticles and left alot of polish on my fingers and toes. Horrible job. ALSO i had eyelash extensions done and was never given a skin test beforehand which caused me a severe reaction with swollen eyes and burning for weeks. The lady never even cleaned out my eyelids or even asked me if i cleaned it which i did but still she should have asked. They rush their jobs and are always talking with each other. Getting shampooed by Barbara was a religious experience. She is an amazing colorist, especially with me being a "blonderexia" she always gets it right. Julie cuts my hair right every time. Ive been to this salon on several occasions. When i began getting services I was already a blonde but just wanted it freshened up. I absolutely loved my hair... until I got home and washed it and my hair was fried beyond belief(mind you my hair was past my shoulders and healthy). I thought ok next time ill get a cut maybe that will help. Second time I went before I could even get a cut 2 inches were gone from over processing. I noticed around me all of the colorist were sitting around on their phones just talking and fooling around up at the front. I went a couple times after that just for trims and it was beginning to look healthy then I went for color just to test it again and lets just say I went home and cried for the rest of the night my hair was so thin and gone. I know things happen when your a blonde but I have been blonde for almost 2 years and it was not even this unhealthy when i transitioned to blonde from brown. Now all the progress I made is gone. Another complaint I have if with the women who was supposed to do my makeup on a visit to the salon, that was until I saw her station. It was FILTHY. Lip sticks were open and exposed, dirty tissues everywhere and she reeked of cigarettes. Most definitely a health code violation. I quickly said I could not afford the service anymore. I am instead choosing to write a review to help people steer clear of this place the entire salon just seems so unprofessional and like no one knows how to correctly do hair. I will not be returning. I was wash, cut and blown dry in under 1/2 hour after waiting 1/2 hour for my appointment. Explained the problems with my very straight, heavy hair and what I was looking to do. the stylist cut a few layers in back, trimmed my bangs, and charged a hefty price, $60.00 later my hair does not even look styled. could have done as well in Hair Cuttery for half the price. I'm not one to write reviews, good or bad, but I felt it necessary to share the experience I had with this salon. I started going to salon approximately 2 years ago, and about 6 months ago decided I would never be back. When I started out, I had extremely short hair and went in to have extensions put in to attempt growing it out. The first time I went in, I had the extensions and had them put in..I had never had fake hair put in before, and didn't realize that they hadn't been properly put in nor had they been trimmed to blend into my hair. I followed all instructions from the stylist, but within 3-5 days I was back in the chair to have the hair reattached because it had fallen out. This same thing happened several times, most always ending with me paying for additional services to have them put back in. I spent thousands of dollars during the time I was being serviced here, and never left fully satisfied. About six months ago I went in to have extensions put back in & my hair colored...I was over processed resulting in a major loss of hair in the back of my head. The color was left on my hair well over the time it should have, and within a few days I had a complete bald spot down the center of my head where the color was left on the longest. I've since had to go through extensive conditioning and repairing of my hair, and I'm still left with a major section of hair much shorter than the rest. Not only did I spend a good amount of money to be left with this result, but I've spent a good amount of my time having it fixed. read more

Never again, thought a few times I booked one service and got a lesser one and paid for the higher priced one so decided to confirm. Time passes between the time you make an appt and actually go and let's face it we're all busy sometime we lose track so when I made the appt wrote down exactly what I booked. Sure enough booked a full color received a partial and they tried to charge me for a full...oh and when the got snagged belligerent is an understatement --- watch your wallets there's a network of thieves in there. read more

I've been a Salon Norman Dee client since 2007 or so, and I can't say enough about the great services I've received. The salon space is beautiful, the staff is friendly, experienced, and professional, and the operation, as a whole, is very client-centered! I go to Christy for color and Lauren for cut. As somebody who plays with hair color constantly, Christy is always up for my ideas and does a fantastic job every time. She definitely knows what will work in my hair and what won't, and will be honest if something won't come out like I picture. Lauren does my cut, and whether it's just a trim or I'm chopping it all off, I've never had a bad experience. She takes her time with you, communicates, and gives fantastic blow-outs to boot. I've also had make-up done here, and it's beautiful every time. Best of all, the pricing, I find, is very reasonable (I live near Center City, and it definitely beats the usual city pricing).
