Finding a new stylist after a move is always nerve wracking, so if you've recently moved or are looking for a new salon, look no further! After living in the Miami area for 5 months, I decided to check out Steven Michael's because of the high ratings and close location to home. Their hours are also awesome as many salons in the area are closed on Sunday. I was able to make an appointment for a cut and balayage between Christmas and New Years without a problem (and I only called about a week in advance). When I called I was connected to Elizabeth, who is a balayage goddess. It was great for talk on the phone about what I was looking for since I was pretty much jumping into the deep end without an in person consultation prior to the cut and color. When I arrived to the salon for my appointment, I was seated right away and Elizabeth got to work. I showed her some pictures and it was clear she knew exactly what I was looking for. I was in and out in about 2 hours, which was awesome (I had previously gone to a salon where this process would take 3 hours even with my short, fine hair). I put my trust in Elizabeth, and I was not disappointed! I went from a dark brunette color to a honey/caramel color in no time. I'm so excited to return! read more

I have given this salon way too many chances. last time was defínitly the last. I had my color put on and a man walked through the door. my stylist left me in my chair and proceeded to take a new customer while doing my hair! no big deal because I had a 20 minute wait but 45 minutes later I had to remind her my HAIR needed to be rinsed. I was rinsed by the owner and sat back in my chair. waiting and waiting. I brushed my own hair out and blew out my bangs and left. I was so pissed. I've honestly never had a bad haircut before. I have an A line cut and I was hoping I could go to this salon since it was so close to my house instead of traveling to my usual salon. The hair cutter was Casey, who I think was relatively new at cutting hair. She cut my hair and never showed me the back of it but when I came home my brother starts asking me what happened to my hair? He shows a mirror to the back of it (which I couldn't see in the salon) and pointing out the uneven chunk missing from the back. I have chin length hair so fixing it is pretty much just dealing with the crappy haircut until it grows out again in a month or two. Very very upset and unhappy with this experience which is pretty much unfixable. Edit: After fighting with the owner "Kim" for the past 4-5 hours about giving me a full refund, they finally gave me one. I've decided with how the owner treated me and how long this took to keep the review up. She was unbelievably nasty about the whole thing and claimed it was a cow lick. I actually grew up in a barbershop, and because of that, never gave much thought to where my inevitable next haircut was going to be done. Once I moved away (and then back to) from Miami, I had to find a new one, and pronto. Enter SM's. I found them by accident- literally drove by it on Old Cutler Road. Made an appointment, which was handled quickly and easily, (even got a text reminding me of it the day before), and got sat down immediately upon entering. My stylist/barber was a young guy named Zach who had just started cutting hair, despite having had his license for a few years. Apparently, the Owner and her husband split up recently and the salon had been slow, so he'd taken it upon himself to help it get back on track. My haircut came out great, and I was even offered a free wine or beer, which I could get behind if I had planned on being there longer, but sadly, was in a hurry. All in all, this little salon saved my from going around looking like a caveman, and for that I'll be coming back once it's time to get trimmed down again. read more

It's been a while since my first review of Steven Michael's but whenever I look at my hair now, I can't help but think that they deserve another shout out from me. I've been enough times that I know I don't want to get my hair done anywhere else. That is what they do to you. Every single hair designer at Steven Michael's does wonders. Mahum was my first experience, she was amazing and so patient when I went from an angled bob to a pixie cut. Shawn has taken care of my cut and color, with an ombre look. She is a such a wizard for transforming me. Steven Michael's had me giggling the entire time I was getting my hair done. But not only is he funny, he made over my hair that I am so happy with now. Every single time I go and visit Steven Michael's I'm always there for a long time, but I appreciate it so much, that they do take their time with you and there is no rush, you and your hair are what matters. The prices are never bad, and I don't mind the investment that I'm making on myself, it's always worth it. This is my second time going to this salon. The first time I went I had a very pleasant experience this is why I went back. When I called to schedule my appointment I was kindly greeted by Zack. While he was searching for my name in the system or looking for the next available appointment for my oh so wanted balayage, he made me laugh. He is hilarious. Prior to my scheduled appointment day, Elizabeth contacted me to get an idea ahead of time of what I wanted to get done. I thought this is so awesome, it'll save time when I get there because she will know exactly what I want and how much time she will need. Anywho, the day came to get my balayage. I was so excited because I just recently had a baby and I wanted a change, just a not so drastic super blonde change. Zack booked me with Elizabeth because the hair stylist who had done my hair the first time was no longer there. I was greeted by Zack then Elizabeth. If there was a way to give this place a negative star I would! Beware of this place! They ruined my hair. I had an appointment on a Friday night which I was extremely excited for. I even brought my stylist a picture of what I wanted. She looked at the picture (Jessica Biel) and said no problem. She turned my beautiful brown hair to black! I was in tears. She said give me a chance to fix it and I was asked to come back Saturday morning, I knew I should have ran and never turned back but the stylist was really nice and seemed sincere when she said she was sorry and that she would fix what she had done. So I came back Saturday bad feeling and all. When she was finally done putting all sorts of things in my hair (at one point I told her my head felt like it was burning) I looked like a monster...I left in tears again! I was so embarrassed that immediately put my hair up in a bun and cried the whole way home! My kids didn't even recognize me! I had thick streaks in 5 different colors. I was charged $160 which I tried to get back through my bank and they refused to return the money! Less than a week later pieces of my hair fell out from the over process and my scalp was flaking due to the chemicals she had put in my hair! I wasn't going to write a review because I know this is someone's livelihood and I felt bad for the stylist...yea guess who's the real sucker, ME! So here's my NEGATIVE REVIEW because the bank just contacted me to let me know the Salon refused to return the money. HAD THEY JUST RETURNED MY MONEY I would have never said a word. This too me is bad business and lord only knows how many others have gone through what I have.
