UPDATE #2: they have now made a fake number to act as the FBI to lure me into so trap. Screenshot is attached I was shocked at my hair trauma experience as well as inappropriate and disgusting behavior by the staff. Especially after the reviews I saw online. I had scheduled an appointment with Miguel to get JUST a partial highlight, as I informed him I have K tip extensions that I get taken care of elsewhere for years. The whole appointment Miguel is asking me to go on dates and telling me he could just do my hair at my house next time. That behavior was actually the least of my concerns. When my hair was done, I left the salon with normal highlight touch up, at least I thought. My hair looked slightly thin but I didn't think much of it since it was styled. The next day my 25 inch extensions had zero volume, and the beach waves were completely gone. I texted Miguel the next day asking him if he put a hair masque on my extensions and he told me "yes I put a conditioning mask and didn't charge you". I have NEVER had any extension problems before because I know as a client, not to use this type of treatment on k tips. For the Slovak K Tip extensions I have, they are very very thick and volumous and conditioning treatments thin and ruin them. I was NEVER asked about the mask and never gave consent for this. I was not even being told that I was getting a treatment put into my hair. When I called the salon to speak with the "manager" Angie, I told her what happened, asking for a resolution to my $3100 extensions that were ruined. She interrupted me several times saying "are you done talking yet" then hung up on me out of her anger for not understanding how expensive my extensions are. It has been only 5 days since this appointment and I have now had 7 -K tip extensions come out of my head as well. The reviews on here are great for when they actually do their job, but the unprofessional approach and lack of accountability and to make things right, is where this salon lacks their true credibility. I would say solely after this type of interaction, their licenses are at risk. UPDATE: it has been 12 days after my appointment and I have lost a total of 15 extensions from my hair, in the last 12 days. WTF GLEAM I'll take some of the blame here with this one, but hear me out. I called to book an appointment for a full head balayage. I was seeking a last minute appointment for the following morning and was thankful they said they'd fit me in. I'm assuming that means they're squeezing me in for a balayage like I asked. Negative. I show pics of what I want which was a pic from a client that had gone to their salon and gotten a balayage. Disclosure: I'm aware everyone's hair is different and based off of the last time I had balayage done will determine my results. I've only done balayage 2 or 3 times and I really don't know a lot about hair. The technique that was being done on my hair was different, but again I don't know much about hair and assumed there are different ways to do balayage. I now know what was being done were HIGHLIGHTS. Towards the end, my stylist made a comment that there wasn't time for a blow-dry because I was only booked for highlights. THIS IS WHEN I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN. But from my perspective I'm thinking oh he accidentally said highlights because not once during the booking of the appointment or the initial discussion before the process was the word "highlights" used. In the moment I'm also thinking - wow I've never left the hair salon without a blow-dry, but I'm lucky they took the time to fit me in. Not a big deal. (I mention the blow-dry because that's why I left the salon with wet hair not realizing how it actually turned out. Not having time for the blow-dry was understandable and not the issue) I'm honestly so upset with the way my hair turned out. I am not a fan of the look of chunks of my natural brown hair and then a bleach blonde highlight. I feel embarrassed that I don't know more about how balayage is supposed to be done vs. highlights because I would've spoken up immediately. From what was being done, it was looking like there was going to be so much blonde. I truly believe this was just a fluke thing because all the reviews and pics I saw of other clients looked fabulous. The salon itself was such a nice place and the experience I had while I was there was nothing short of amazing. I'm just not sure how booking a BALAYAGE got translated to HIGHLIGHTS. Again, I'm putting part of the blame on myself for not calling the salon immediately, but I booked that appointment right before leaving for vacation for 2 weeks, so I just tried to push the whole ordeal to the back of my mind. read more

After almost a year and a half of searching for a stylist, trying multiple salons from the mid level to completely high end, I found a balayage queen! I had dark brown hair, and was told by many stylists that "it'll take time" and "you need 3 sessions" to get the color you want (which was a brown balayage with ash blonde vs amber). But even after multiple sessions, the blonde I wanted in my hair was amber, even slightly orange. I met Jennifer and let her know my hair story and everything I was trying to achieve. Thank God for Gleam! I found Gleam after having my hair messed up by another salon, who I trusted.... I was so upset and disappointed that I went online and researched like crazy who was the best in my area at balayage ombré. Tons of reviews and beautiful photos came up, with Gleam at the center. I called immediately, spoke with Carole, the owner, who asked me to come in for a consultation. Which she she scheduled within an hour. She said I would work with Renee, because she was patient and extremely detailed. ...obviously my hair was royally f&@*ed! Anyway, Renee looked at my hair and we discussed a plan of attack for getting the look I wanted. I scheduled an appointment for 2 days later. She was exactly what Carole said, patient, detailed and caring. She went piece by piece fixing the highlights and adding low lights to repair the color on my hair. She also suggested doing Olaplex in the lightener to help protect the damaged hair. This was a must, because the texture of my hair after was like new! I can not recommend Renee and Gleam hair studio enough! They were professional, compassionate and I walked out of there feeling like a million bucks, with EXACTLY what I wanted. It's sad to write a bad review after being a client for the past 4 years. Everything was perfect when my hair was done by Peter. As soon as he left I started doing my hair with Tish. First time was ok, second time not what I expected but my wedding was coming so I decided not to get it fixed. But third time was terrible. I came to the salon to get a balayage and left with some really bad highlights all the way to my roots. Customer service is great, immediately booked an appointment to get it fixed. Went next week to get it fixed but it still was not perfect. So came in for a 3rd time in a month to get it fixed. Not happy with the result. But didn't wanted to get it fixed again. Ended not having a balayage and having really bad $380 highlights . Paid $380 for this and a toner (never needed one before). So sad I have to look for another hair studio. read more

Responding to Carole's comment on my review (the business owner): it is not a twisted review. It is what happened and I wanted to let others be aware of what happened to me and my experience at gleam hair studio. The fact that you feel a certain type of way of my review, I cannot sit here and lie and apologize to you because I have not said anything wrong or offensive towards your business. The fact that I wrote the review now and not when it happened was because I was never into yelp and I just recently started actually writing reviews to places I've been. But I don't need to give any explanations to you. If you really are the owner then I'm sure you know who I am and what happened that day because there was a lady there who was the "owner" who apologized for what the hair stylist had done. I'm not sure if it was you as I cannot see your picture. Like I said I can't sit here and apologize for a certain way that you feel about an experience that I had in your business. Only word of advice to you is please make sure your hair stylists know what they are doing! This review is based on my experience back in January. I couldn't get an appointment with my hair guy and I couldn't wait (had to go on a trip), so I called around and asked around who had availability for the same day. I came across gleam hair studio and they told me they had an opening right away. My hair was already blonde and it was long I just wanted to retouch my balayage. I got to gleam hair studio and I asked for the price. They told me to hold on. I waited about 5-10 minutes before the hair stylist who was attending me decided to ask if I was gonna cut my hair, I said yes and she just chopped off my hair and started applying bleach before even giving me a price. I asked again for the price and the girl finally was able to come back with the price. The price was 570$!!!!!!! For a balayage touch up and hair cut. Can you believe that?! That is ridiculous. I said well maybe it's worth it. I arrived around 2 pm and left around 9 pm from that place. While I was there apparently there was a "yellow line" from my roots growing in that they were not able to remove. My hair stylist Renee kept asking others for help. It was ridiculous, if you don't know what you're doing, don't do it! When I was done I didn't like the results much but they weren't so bad and there wasn't much I could do about it. When I got home and actually was able to see under good lighting I was definitely not very pleased with my results as I wanted to retouch my balayage and the hair stylist basically did whatever she wanted. She made my hair an ugly white color in the bottom and on the top there wasn't even dark roots, it was a caramel color which definitely is not a balayage. It looked so wrong. Then when my mother in law saw my hair she said it was patches of color of yellow and white and a caramel color also that my hair was cut terribly. When I finally was able to see the back of my head (I took a selfie in the mirror backwards), I saw the terrible work they had done. TERRIBLE! Attached is the picture. I called and complained all they could do is offer me for the SAME person to fix my hair. (Definitely not pleased)..... I went back and fixed it although she didn't fix it much and she also apologized for the work she had done and she said it was 9 pm and that she was kind of in a hurry to get out of work.. ridiculous! She messed up my hair because she wanted to leave work, coming from the same lady who told me she had over 20 years of experience, must me bullshit. 1 months later I went to my hair guy and he was finally able to really fix the problem. My hair has always been a huge deal for me given that I have so much of it! Anyway, a lot of patients at the office I work in have recommended we go to Gleam Hair Studio so I gave them a call as soon as they opened on Saturday morning and Carole answered the phone. Very attentively she listened to what had happened to me and put me on hold to try to accommodate me that same day. It's very hard to get an appointment here, some stylists are booked months in advance! But she was able to book me with Peter. When I got there I was greeted and sat immediately. I explained to Peter the problem I had and he explained everything that he would do to fix it. Any stylist can cut and blowdry hair, but it isn't the same when you KNOW about colors and how to get the perfect shades. Well Peter is a pro! Very skilled and professional! Everyone there is very attentive and kind. You feel cared for. Which is very important! I was so happy I was able to go in and get my problem fixed! I should've gone there to begin with! Two hours AFTER I was confirmed for all three appointments, I get a call from Gleam saying that they were so busy the day I was scheduled that in order to keep my ALREDY CONFIRMED appointments, that I was going to have to pay full adult pricing for a cut and blow dry for my 7 and 9 year old daughters. . .JUST BECAUSE THEY WANTED TO MAKE MORE MONEY. I don't normally write reviews but this was one I had to finally get off my chest because after a few months, it still really bothers me. *This is not a reflection on Gleam and the other hair stylists, as I have seen very good work come from them.* I went to Gleam because my hair stylist had recently moved and I was looking for a new one. I had heard great things from friends about Gleam, so thought I would give it a shot. I was placed with Renee. My hair was dark brown and I wanted balayage. I told her about my hair history so she would not have any surprises, and she seemed wary, but I trusted she would know what to do. After over 8 hours at the salon, many of those with foils in my hair, I ended up with an extremely splotchy balayage that was very brassy. She seemed very unsure about what to do and I could see on her face that she knew it didn't turn out well. I mentioned that I saw some very blunt areas that weren't well blended, and her solution was to dye it back darker. At the end, my bill was close to $600 which I felt was astronomical for any salon, especially for one that has a stylist that I feel is not well trained or confident in her work. I had multiple people tell me when I got home that my hair wasn't done well and that I should go back and say something. Unfortunately, I am very timid and rather just sweep it under the rug although it was very difficult after spending so much money. I waited to write this comment because I gave her the benefit of the doubt. I understood that I had box dye in my hair that was growing out that may make it difficult. BUT, shortly after, I went to another stylist to fix my hair because I constantly had to curl my hair to somewhat hide the uneven blending. I told her my same hair history, and she had no concerns. I was there 2.5 hours, spent almost half the money, and came out with amazing, well blended balayage. It showed me that hair coloring really is an art, and that I shouldn't have settled for what was done to my hair that day and for that price. I don't doubt that Renee can be a good hair stylist, but I don't think it is appropriate to have a hair stylist do a technique that she is not comfortable with at such an expensive salon. I am not writing this to hurt the salon in any way, just as constructive criticism for this not to happen to any more people. read more

I moved to Miami from NYC about 1 year ago and have been on a salon search ever since. I hoped Gleam might be "the one" but unfortunately not. I have blonde hair (natural brunette) and get a full set of highlights about every 3 months. I called Gleam for an appointment and said I wanted a master stylist who was experienced with blondes. I was set up with Tish and assured that she's especially good with blonde highlights. I already had pretty light blonde hair, but wanted to go for the latest icy blonde look. The end result was not good. The lower half of my hair was the color I wanted, but the roots and underneath of my hair was very patchy and orangey in places. I didn't notice the roots while sitting in the chair, but when I got home and took a better look I immediately contacted Gleam with a picture and said I would need to come back in to have it corrected. Even though I spent $500+ and everyone was very friendly on my first visit, after I expressed dissatisfaction I received the complete opposite treatment. First, they asked if I could wait until 5 days later to have it fixed. Why would I want to wait that long with messed up hair? I pushed for an earlier appointment and went in the next day. No one greeted me, the owner Carol who had been so nice the day before completely ignored me and didn't acknowledge the issue. Tish fixed the problem areas, but to be honest the color job just isn't good and I still have orangey tones to my blonde. The whole situation was extremely uncomfortable and disappointing. I can't speak for the other stylists there, but I wouldn't go back or recommend Gleam just based on the complete lack of customer service I received. read more

The multitalented Renee Barnes is absolutely one of a kind. I travel all over the world and I've never seen such an exceptionally talented woman. From the haircut to the color, Renee transformed long frizzy badly rusted, orangeish tinted hair into a healthy glowing crown of gold with life. I called gleam about 2 weeks ago for a consultation. I spoke to Bella who is a sweetheart and scheduled me with Tish. When I arrived Bella greeted me and was so warm and friendly. The salon is very chic and trendy. Clean and neat. I was immediately sat in a hair station and then met Tish. Tish was just as friendly and professional and sweet as Bella. We spoke as she took a look at my hair. She listened to my current issues with the hot mess, that wast current hair situation. I mentioned I had photos and we must have looked at 10 different photos that all had some aspect of what I wanted. Tish was clear and concise in what her plan was. I booked my appointment and just left from there today the happiest girl in the world. Not only did Tish once again confirm we were still on the same page but the owner, Carol, also introduced herself and gave her professional opinion as well. My hair was a bad mixture of streaky white highlights and a very bad attempt of balayage. The cut was completely uneven and the bangs. Smh. The bangs shall not be be mentioned. Tish used her magic and precise touch to blend and create natural looking dimension on my hair. She fixed the cut and executed the new cut I had in mind, perfectly. This review is based on my first visit to this amazing salon, but it won't be my last. Starting with the initial phone call I made inquiring about the stylists, prices and details. The way I interacted with Gina, her phone etiquette impacted positively on my decision of making the appointment. I was a little nervous because I chose this place just based on good reviews therefore It felt as I was going to a "blind date" with my new hair dresser, Rene. Gina welcomed me ( I was on time) and took me to the chair, no waiting, Rene came right after and that was an instant click! Rene took her time to listen to what I had in mind, gave suggestions, gave me a final reassurance of the style, making sure that I was in total agreement. ( I really love our interaction and her attention to details, not rush, no stress). It pains me to write this review because I really like this salon. However, I had such a bad experience with 'Schlomi' that I felt it was important to share it. I have been to the salon several times before with another stylist who was amazing. Unfortunately, they left and instead of trying someone from the staff, I tried this guy. To start, the owner of the salon was running the front and when I walked in said to this guy, your client is here. That's it. Not a hello, or how r u doing? Or even a welcome. Usually, the person at the front is really warm. This was the first time I have dealt with rudeness there. But I thought, ok, maybe it's a weird day. It so was. He didn't introduce himself, when I sat down he said 'what do you want', when I told him i just wanted the same haircut as before it had just gotten long and then said 'or if u have any ideas...' he said literally 'yeah that's fine'. And then the awkwardness started. There seemed to be some confusion about whether he would wash my hair or the person that usually washes my hair. Literally, it seemed like people were ignoring him. The vibe in the salon was very very strange. Either they had all just had a fight or everyone hated him that day. Then the cut: the whole cut took 20 minutes and it's not because he was fast. Also, please note that inside those 20 minutes, I would try to ask for something and he would say I DID THAT ALREADY BUT OK which to me is very strange. At the end of this pretty bad experience, the owner once again was at the front. I was going to tip the guy which I always do and he totally left. Didn't say good bye or see ya or anything. I ended up giving his tip to the owner and asking her to give it to him. She didn't even look up at me or ask how was it or anything. At that point, I decided I wasn't ever going back. I realized if the owner is like that, of course this dude was going to be like that. Again, the other stylist are really friendly. I just don't see the point in paying 125 with tip for 40 minutes of an ad haircut and putting up with divas. I have it two stars and not 1 because before when I had dealt with another front person and another stylist this was a five star salon to me. However, not anymore. I've been a client of Carole's for nearly a decade! I've been a brunette, a redhead and a blonde with Carole and she's nailed every single color every single time. I've also had keratin treatments and cuts done by Tish and she is fantastic. The entire staff here at the salon is incredibly talented and passionate about their work.
