When I called to get request an appointment to my unknown who would have thought a stylist named Jami would accept my request! Little did I know she was the owner!! She was responsive almost every week all the up to my date and up to 12 hours before. The day of my appointment she had already studied my inspiration photo and then she discussed options. She explained my hair what it needed, what was missing for years, how long the process would be , and maintaining. Jaimi was thorough and experienced of course! But she also was very honest. Warning: Long Review: I'm giving Moda Salon two stars for the hairstylist and the receptionist. Otherwise, I would give it 1. I'm writing a bad review regarding the manager of the salon. I will not be back. I genuinely liked my hairstylist, but she didn't listen to me. When I first asked her to cut my hair, I asked for a hair trim (1 inch); she cut off 3 inches. It was a cute haircut, so it didn't bother me. We talked about hair color several times before our appointment. I explicitly said I didn't want dark brown mahogany hair. When she was drying my hair, my roots were bright red, and the rest of my hair was dark brown. We had to dye my hair dark brown to remove the red roots - that mahogany brown color. I told the receptionist I wasn't happy with my hair as I checked out. She said she understood, and I shouldn't pay, but I had to talk to "Mayghan," the manager. I waited for the manager for 10 minutes after she got out of the bathroom. She said, "I understand you're unhappy with your hair, but I saw the hair color, and our hairstylist gave you what you wanted. So you'll need to pay for the full appointment." I understand that mistakes happen. However, the lack of accountability is the issue here and is why I'm writing the review. It's like asking for salmon at a restaurant, and you receive chicken and being told you're supposed to eat chicken because that's what you ordered...f*cked up, right? Just no. In the end, I would have returned to this salon if they had taken accountability, admitted they had made a mistake with the hair color, and offered a free color correction. The manager was so off-putting that I don't want to return to my stylist again.  It's clear that the salon doesn't care about its customers and especially doesn't welcome constructive criticism. Thankfully my bank will refund me. UPDATE (from Google): After the owner's response I am reducing the two star review to a 1. The lack of professionalism of this spot is appalling to me. I have gone to higher end salons that are willing to admit they've made a mistake, and it's hilarious to me that they're telling me I had the hair that I wanted. I'm happy to provide photos with the inspiration I shared with my stylist. It's nothing like what I had asked for. For anyone who is considering Moda as their new salon, I would look elsewhere. I've been a customer at Moda for about 15 years, now and referred family and friends. So why three stars? The hair cuts are great, but customer service and management can be a mixed bag. On the one hand, you could have a lovely chat and be greeted by a pleasant host at the front desk, on the other hand, they may be so overbooked that your stylist is juggling three different clients - no exaggeration. It's also a mix in terms of stylists, some have been amazing to work with, creative and talented. Others stuck to the most basic cut, barely styled it, and seemed unhappy to be there. That sense of unhappiness has been a pretty long going trend. It can be hard to find a good salon in the area, so if you're in Edmonds it is worth a try, but I've personally chosen to move on for now. read more

5 stars always & forever! I love the girls at Moda! I have been going to Dani for a number of years now for my blonde hair and there is no one I trust more. She has gotten me to a place of growth and low maintenance... which for a blonde, is never easy! I came to Dani with over processed, broken hair and now I am able to come in only every 4-7 months (depending on how far I want to push it) for foil touch ups. No matter if I am fresh out of the salon or 6 months since I've been in, I ALWAYS get complimented on my hair color. It's all thanks to Dani! Dani will only suggest products she thinks will help you achieve what your *hair goals* & you need to trust her because I am speaking from experience. My hair has never been longer! DON'T GET HUSTLED LIKE I DID! Was referred by my community group as I wanted to keep my money local. Booked first appointment for a full balayage and haircut, had my service, and felt great about my hair and my stylist; so good, in fact, that I booked a repeat service every 8 weeks through end of 2018! Second appointment I come in for the same service, again felt great though the cost was almost $100 more (thinking: stylist received more certifications? She's worth it). Had barely made it home when I received a call saying they in error UNDERcharged me and I needed to pay the difference. When I call, they say I need to pay ANOTHER HUNDRED DOLLARS. When I asked why the total cost was almost double from my first appointment, when I had booked the exact same service, the poor girl on the phone stammered about how she didn't know... Come to find out that not only did I have to pay an extra $100 on an error they made, but I NEVER RECEIVED THE SERVICE I REQUESTED AT FIRST VISIT. My stylist did call and leave me a VM apologizing and offering the $100- But ONLY if I booked another service!!!!! Wow. I work in a customer facing industry as well and know how to take care of people when we make a mistake (hint: this isn't it); though we actually provide what our clients ask for and are transparent all the way. read more

This was the second time I had set up an Appt for my niece that didn't go well. This review is delayed, but she had her hair done when she was home in Winter break. Not only was the stylist over booked (3 people in the salon to see her at once) but when she asked how she wanted her hair styled post cut she said: flat ironed. The stylist explained that was not possible because you have to call in and ask for that in advance. Wow, really? Since WHEN? Next, she then made her sit and dry under a dryer for 1hr+, while she helped her other clients. Explaining to her, that her hair would look best in its "natural curl" elements. Once it was semi dry, she decided to add ringlets in the "natural curl". She came home looking like a 12yr old flower girl (she's 19) and the bottom of her hair still wet and not dry or styled. One of the reasons you get a hair cut is for that awesome, salon fresh look. She came home in tears and it was far from that. Too bad this is the second time with that same stylist and paying $70 for a trim. I've called and the response is to come back and have that SAME stylist fix it. Nope. Not gonna. Moda is a luxurious spa, right in the heart of Edmonds. I highly recommend Dani M. I took my 6-yr-old daughter for a haircut, after a summer of harsh chlorine and sun damaged her hair. She had extensive damage and I was afraid that a lot of length would need to come off. Dani took the time to assess her hair and prescribed a treatment, in salon, to restore some of the biotin in her hair (I think)? My daughter thoroughly enjoyed the 10+ minutes of deep conditioning treatment, complete with head massage. In the end, Dani was able to preserve a lot of length, and simply thinned my daughter's hair out where the damage was most noticeable. $62 for a kids cut. 1-Hour service. Best haircut ever, and well-worth the cost for the extra pampering. read more

They place extensions at this salon for Great Lengths. There is no way the person who put mine is was properly trained. I had GL for years before. They took twice the time my previous stylist took and had no clue how to properly blend them. She did not bring the hair out for me to see before starting and did not cut and prepare them in front of me either. She basically dumped them all up on the back and did not blend the front so my short hair just sits on top of the extensions. The sides are about an inch different from where the placement begins as well. The back looks absolutely terrible when I pull up my hair. You should not be able to see them! I told her I pull my hair up a lot for work. She had no clue how to do this properly. I will include a picture. On top of all this, she burned my ears multiple times. There is no excuse for claiming to be Great Lengths certified and providing such poor quality service misrepresenting Great Length's quality. I will be reporting Moda Salon. Their business practice is shady as well, but the big issue here is that they are allowing completely unqualified and poorly trained people to provide high level services that require certification and proper training. read more

People kept telling me it was gonna hurt really bad and I should take an ibuprofen beforehand but I just went with the flow of life and didn't take any medication. A lot of it wasn't painful at all. I'm conflicted on how to review this place. I'm leaning towards a 2 star because "could have been better" is a good summary of this experience. Concerns: 1) I've had a lot of my appointments rescheduled. So much so I can't remember how many times I've been rescheduled but guess in total it's been half of the time. When I first scheduled, they rescheduled me twice. The first time someone left work early, then someone had a roommate with covid I think. Totally happens. Then the next appointment was okay, but then the following was cancelled because they stopped having Tuesday appointments. They did offer a discount one of the times which was nice, but it's still kind of chaotic. Most recently they had to reschedule me because I was first told my stylist was away due to an illness, then that she was leaving altogether. 2) High turnover rate possibly? It makes me worried when a place struggles to keep staff. The person who had been cutting my hair was really wonderful and sweet. Now that she is leaving they scheduled me with someone else who was great, but she is apparently also leaving. They apparently don't have anyone right now who can panel me that works with my schedule so I could see a trainee stylist? Not really ideal. Pros: 1) My hair cuts from my previous stylist were great. I felt like she knew what I needed in terms of hair cuts and colors. I'm really bummed I won't get to work with her. 2) The location is wonderful for me. If you are the sort to want to have a coffee before an appointment or maybe hop down somewhere for lunch or dinner afterwards? It's a great spot. I don't know if I want to keep coming here; I want to work with a stylist who is going to stick around. The more I think about it, the more deflated I feel. If the person who did my hair this weekend were available I maybe wouldn't feel this way. I don't want to wait around with trainees hoping I can have someone regular work with me because I think working with a stylist/colorist for long-term work is a valuable experience. read more

Been going to MODA for about 6 years now and am a happy patron for life. The first time I went I was randomly assigned to Emi and my life is better for it. Not only is she the most pleasant, wonderful person, but she knows just what to do with my hair to make me look good and not have to do much work to achieve it. I just sit down and tell her to express herself and I always walk away looking 100 times better than how I looked when walking in. Mandy has been taking care of my hair for the last three years or so and I couldn't be happier. Mandy gives great input to help keep my cut and color current but also really listens to my ideas and, sometimes when I'm being stubborn, meets me in the middle until I realize I should leave it to the pros. Today at checkout they forgot to charge me for one of my services and, as I was heading back to the salon to pay, I got the nicest voicemail from Mandy. She said "Please don't come in to pay, it's my treat, I appreciate your business." So I went in for a cut and a balayage color and my daughter a bang trim. I was told my cost was 130 and since you can't bring in purses I brought $150 cash with me. I get to the front to pay and I'm told my new total is $389 what!!! For a cut and a color even Gene Juarez doesn't charge that. For sure at that price I better come out looking amazing. But I did not, the cut was okay I have curly hair and they usually ask how I want it styled I usually ask for them to straighten my hair but after being there for 3 hours I'm like I'll just let it air dry thanks! The balayage was suppose to be a reddish color I specifically said no blonde. what did she do, a blonde. They aren't even streaks she had to use a toner which of course was an added cost and I think that was to mask the color because it came out too blonde. Or she left it on too long. For the most part it was okay but there's a section on my left side that didn't take to the toner and is pretty blonde doesn't match the rest of my hair. My daughters bang trim was not even when we got home I had to fix it. Needless to say I won't be back. A cut and a color should never be $400 read more

Bri was really easy to talk to. She really listened to me and did the color and cut based on the pictures I brought in. I'll definitely be back to see her. read more

I have been in twice to see Mandy. She is extremely friendly. She is also extremely quick. With wash and cut I'm usually in and out in 30 minutes. As a new mom, it is hard for me to justify leaving my baby for too long, so I appreciate a quick salon visit. The front desk staff is amazing. I have had to call to reschedule 2 times now (the day before my appointments), and they have always been friendly and accommodating. The only issue is parking. They do have a small lot in the back, but if you come during the day, it's street parking for you! And if you're comfortable parallel parking in downtown Edmonds, more power to you! read more
