She stopped working there years ago, but despite that I still like to come with my mom every now and then to get something done with my hair. I decided to do something big: I've been wanting to dye my hair a crazy color for a while, and I finally went and did it today. I got my hair dyed a deep purple and blue mix by Chris, and she is incredible. She had me come in about a week and a half ahead of time to consult with me and give me an idea of what she could do and to let me know what I'm getting myself into. I got it all done today and all I have to say is wow. Granted it was a very time consuming process, but in the end I love the finished product, as Chris and the other stylists know what they're doing. She took the idea that I wanted and put her own twist on it and it came out beautifully. Thank you Amie Marie!

With very limited success. That changed today! A good friend of mine recommended her salon but when I made the appointment, I accidentally called the wrong place. Figuring it was meant to be, I decided to keep the appointment and I'm so glad I did. Ruben was the stylist they suggested for my daughter because he has experience with her hair type. I have to say that on top of his styling skills, his people skills are top notch. He put my daughter at ease and invoked confidence in my husband and I. I purchased the livingsocial.com deal for a wash, cut, blowdry. I had never been to this salon…read morebefore and I'm desperate to find a new stylist that I can be loyal to :-) I have had some scary experiences (I think a few of them are on yelp!). When I first walked in, I was a little confused. There wasn't a receptionist so I just took a seat, someone came over a few minutes later to greet me. I then waited a few more minutes and a woman came and said she was going to wash my hair and I could have a seat at the wash station. A few initial observations - this place is very small. VERY small. They are also VERY busy so all the chairs were occupied with stylist behind them making things very tight. There are two wash bowls in the middle of the salon. I sat and waited. It was a little awkward. I almost wish she had just let me wait in the seating area. I had my hair washed - very relaxing and nice and then I had to go back over to the seating area and wait for my stylist..it was only a couple of minutes. Jess was my stylist and she didn't introduce herself, I only knew her name because when I made the appointment they said it would be with Jess. So needless to say, we were off to a rocky start. I wasn't feeling super welcome or super comfortable. However, once Jess started talking to me and we had a good conversation going, it was very nice. She was very warm and I was happy feeling I was in good hands. Overall, I was happy with my hair cut. I will be back to see Jess. A few notes about the salon. It was very warm (temperature wise) in there. I was sweating..eww. Also, it's very "swampscott-ish" - meaning the other clients walk around like they own the place and I wouldn't go in there and share "what you heard last night over dinner" because I guarantee someone in there knows someone you are talking about. That would be the only reason I wouldn't go back - which is a shame because I did like my hair, I just didn't necessarily love the environment which is not really the fault of the salon. I'm not sure how you would resolve that..but if you want a good cut I would recommend Jess.

First off, she took the time to speak to me over the phone and ask good questions. I brought my Mom with me who also needs a hairdresser. She was very kind, patient and understanding towards her... my Mom has dementia so the person who works with her has to have a lot of patience. Even the other hairdresser was friendly & engaging in the salon. I have been to a ton of salons in my lifetime... it's rare to experience this kind of upbeat & kind attitude. Cheri gave me a courtesy reminder call prior to our appointment which I always totally appreciate.. When we arrived she made us feel like SOLID GOLD. Her genuine and amazing personality & TALENTS are so outstanding in person. She went above and beyond to make sure that we both felt and looked our best. She sent me a thank you note, which I always do with my own clients. Thank you Cheri for being so totally fabulous! As I said in a review of her former workplace, Cherie delivers a high-end cut at a very reasonable price, and is truly an artist when it comes to hair color- I've been approached on several occasions by other stylists asking who did my color. I tried several times to find a salon closer to home, but I was always disappointed- either the quality of the service wasn't up to par or the price tag was astronomical. I recently moved across the country and one of my last stops before leaving was to see Cherie for one final touch up. Since then I have been daydreaming about flying back for my next haircut.

I've been to multiple salons, and have gone back for either a full foil or partial foil every 6-8 weeks for years. After my last visit to my former salon, where the price for a foil and blow dry was over $300 (no cut either, and my hair is very fine, so not much to blowdry!) I decided to try yet again to find a salon that was not only affordable, but would make my hair look the way I wanted. I called A Unique Salon & Spa after doing a google search for Aveda Salons in my area. The woman on the phone was very pleasant, and I booked an appointment within a reasonable time frame with Camille. I met Camille and explained what I wanted done with my hair. I wasn't super specific, but it was almost like she read my mind! I had a partial foil and just a teensy trim. She then blowdried and styled my hair and I couldn't believe the final results! I left the salon SO HAPPY with my hair for the first time in YEARS! I feel so relieved that I have finally discovered a hairstylist that knew exactly which color to apply to my hair, and also how to style my hair perfectly! I'm not kidding when I tell you that I would leave my salon and go immediately home to rewash my hair because I HATED how it looked! And that's after paying them hundreds of dollars! The price was extremely reasonable, as well, and I will be a happy repeat customer for years to come. The only slight issue was the parking situation. Parking is along a busy one-way street, and there were no spaces available on a Saturday afternoon. I did circle the block and ended up finding a space, though. So, just allow plenty of time to find parking before your appointment! Highly recommend Camille and A Unique Salon and Spa!

I've been *extremely* hesitant to get a real haircut for about two years since my last attempt at a different salon by a male-splainin' stylist (went very very very very badly). I'm finally ready to re-attempt a funkier cut after two years and a lot of trust building. :)
