It was my first time ever coming here, and I gave Grace my complete trust. I requested a hush cut…read moreservice, and I absolutely love how my hair turned out. Grace immediately got to work after we communicated what I was looking for, using the reference photos she asked for along with her own input as a hush cut specialist. The salon itself is very clean, airy, and modern. Despite looking small from the outside, it doesn't feel small at all. There's no strong chemical smell from hair dyes, ammonia, or bleach, which I really appreciated. The staff are super friendly and made me feel comfortable right away. I would definitely come back again in the future. After the cut, my confidence level boosted so much. Thank you Grace.

When reasonable pre-service questions about timing, sessions, cost, and hair health are treated as…read morea problem, that's something potential clients should know. I reached out before booking a $500-$600 hair service because I genuinely care about my hair and wanted to be thoughtful before committing. I asked straightforward questions about how many sessions it might take, how long it would take, pricing, and how my hair health would be handled. These were not abstract questions. They were about my own hair and my own money. At first, I was told I could come in for a more direct consultation. When I followed up and asked when a good time would be, the tone changed. I was told this is "not an educational organization," that questions about my own hair should be directed to my previous stylist, and that consultations were not available because they were "too busy," especially on Fridays and Saturdays. That honestly caught me off guard, especially after being encouraged to come in. It started to feel like asking questions at all was unwelcome. What bothered me wasn't that they were busy. I get that. It was how I was shut down. Instead of simply saying we might not be the right fit, the responses felt dismissive and made it seem like I was being difficult for wanting clarity. I stayed polite the entire time and never asked for anything unreasonable. I just didn't want to walk in blind. This experience was especially disappointing because I chose this salon intentionally after reading negative reviews and believing the public responses showed care and accountability. I understand every business has bad reviews and nobody is perfect. But after this interaction, those reviews suddenly made a lot more sense. I'll be honest: I almost booked based on the photos alone. The work looks beautiful. But talent isn't the only thing that matters. Integrity, communication, and having a client's best interest in mind matter just as much. Sharing this so others know to read beyond the pictures and decide for themselves what kind of experience they want. No one should feel small or brushed off for asking questions before paying for a service.

I wait then she.. gets a phone call, but she doesn't not put the phone caller on hold; instead, she prioritizes the call over an in-person guest who had already been waiting. At this point I'm just over it.. this salon has no basic service standards. So I write a short review. But the real issue is the salon manager, Cathy. See screenshot Rather than acknowledging the experience or taking responsibility, her response to my review was defensive, dismissive, and borderline hostile. She reframes the situation and even added a passive-aggressive comment along the lines of "too bad we can't review you." Wow! That last remark says everything about the culture here. Customer feedback should be met with accountability. A manager who responds vengefully instead of constructively tells you everything you need in how guests are valued. If this is how concerns are handled publicly, I would be very cautious about how problems are handled here about your hair!

The stylist was very knowledgeable about curly hair which I attribute to the cost of their service. I don't think I'd return for color again but will definitely return for the deva cuts. It could be helpful to give customers a rough estimate of the booked service so we get the chance to financially plan instead of being told the price once we're in the chair- at that point, I feel most customers could feel obligated to comply.

Finding the salon was easy and there was parking right out front, which made it even better. I stay in South Pasadena on weekends at my boyfriend's house, so I decided to give it a try. EJ was incredibly kind and welcoming. I arrived a few minutes early while he was finishing with another client, and he saw me right at my appointment time. He also offered drinks and snacks, which I really appreciated because I definitely needed the caffeine boost that day. He washed my hair and gave me the trim I desperately needed, removing all my split ends while still keeping my hair long just like I asked. I'm always nervous about losing too much length, but he really listened and delivered exactly what I wanted. His station was also very cute and calming, with plants around the mirror and a dream catcher. I deal with anxiety, so I really appreciated his relaxing energy during the appointment. I usually get my trims done in Beverly Hills with my longtime stylist, and I was pleasantly surprised that the price here was about the same -- $120, which is pretty standard for a good trim in Beverly Hills as well. Since I happened to be in the area, I thought "why not?" and I'm really glad I did because it turned out to be such a pleasant experience.

On top of all of this, she's been well aware that I've developed moderate to severe eczema over the past year, and ensures that my scalp health is also a high priority by checking in regularly throughout the process. She consistently gives me the most amazing razor-cut shags that don't require the extra curling and blow-drying I've seen other stylists have to do to make it even resemble a shag. I can wake up, put some Hairstory products in, and I'm good to go. The way Rae cuts my hair gives it texture and shape, making it less bulky and complimenting my round face. She also gives me the most fantastic curtain bangs, fringe, and wings to flip out my hair. I recently took a new driver's license photo, and thanks to Rae's haircut, it was the first DMV picture I didn't massively hate. She's trained by Jayne from Edo, the Shag Queen that you've probably seen all over Instagram and TikTok, but it doesn't cost a fortune. Plus, Rae is the nicest, most down-to-earth stylist, so it's always good to see her, and the space in Highland Park is very chill. I've definitely been to IG famous hairstylists that made me feel like I was beneath them and gave me a super underwhelming cut. I'm more than happy to make the drive from South LA to Highland Park because Rae's cuts are that good and when I'm out, I always get a lot of compliments on my hair, too.

After my first and only appointment, she left me with bangs that had some strange long pieces on one side that went over and kept poking in my eye. Not only did it not look right aesthetically (others later confirmed what I was seeing), it was physically annoying. Although everything else was great as far as the cut, this was clearly an oversight that, for whatever reason, neither of us did noticed at the time of the appointment. Frankly, although Rae does not charge as much as many very expensive hair stylists, she is *not* inexpensive and this was the most that I've ever paid for a haircut. I felt that I should not have to correct anything myself plus I did not want to mess with her work at all. After contacting her about this very small matter, as I was willing to make the effort to go back to her to have this corrected, she ghosted me. Instead of being agreeable and embodying all of the positive things she purports to believe in and represent via her Instagram page, she apparently decided that I would be "a difficult client." (And apparently this is a thing with hairdressers, as I found mention of this on a hairdressing professionals site.) There was absolutely no consideration for my feelings. I am far from a difficult client. But the client should be happy, and she could've done a couple of snips and that would've been that. Instead... After receiving no reply via phone after leaving her a couple of messages, I finally had to find her on Instagram and sent her a photo of my obviously uneven bangs. Apparently now fearing that I would post something negative to her account or leave a bad review somewhere, she offered to refund the entire cost of the haircut rather than make this quick fix. I was floored. While happy to not have to end up paying my hard-earned money to someone who basically was cruel to me via her respect for only her feelings with none for me, I knew that she was paying me off. As I didn't want to spend any more time or energy on this or her, she's been successful with that until now. But she's come up again, and I can see all of these great reviews and the feelings of rejection have returned. So I must be such an asshole to deserve to be treated like one, right? No. Our session together was perfectly normal, and Rae just cannot accept that she could make such a small oversight and that a client may not be 100% happy with her work--i.e. she exists beyond reproach. She's an artist, mind you! If you can be happy with that, yes she does good work and it seems that most of the time she gets it right with clients (particularly if they have lots of Instagram followers, I suspect but cannot ascertain) or they just don't bother or feel comfortable mentioning any dissatisfaction. I just don't like people thinking they can treat others like trash because they are an artist in some high-priced field. It's a fucking haircut attached to a human being. Just be a nice person and have some grace.
