Wow!!! New to Oakland and feeling so happy to have come across this place. Omar colored my hair a few months ago, and was so fun and awesome, I felt like I made a new friend. More recently, Tina just cut my bangs and was soooooo amazing and sweet I had to give her a hug at the end. And lastly, I am probably going to butcher her name (I'm sorry)) but a woman who's name i think is Kanchan threaded my brows which I've never had done before but will never go back to plucking them. I walked in and was happy to see that this salon knows how to work with wavy/hair. They have Deva Curl products and the stylist I met, Tina, knows how to give the Deva Cut. Anyhow, I walked in on a Sunday, Tina was super warm and welcomed me in. When I sat in the chair she really listened to what I wanted. I have wavy hair and often stylists cut my layers super short, over-texturize them, and leave me with a puff-ball of hair with frayed ends. When I told Tina what I wanted she understood exactly what I meant. She got to work cutting my length and bring up my grown-out layers. She also fixed my heavy, crooked bangs which I had cut myself! I walked away with a wash-and go cut that had body, but still had enough weight to it. I'm really happy I found Tina and will be going back to her. Walking in at about 5pm on a Wednesday without an appointment, with a picture and vague instructions to go on (as well as the assurance that I don't even own a hair dryer, so this has to be a wash-and-go style) Tina made my hair look fabulous! I haven't had my hair cut in at least four years, so this was a big deal for me. And unlike my experience (after a similarly long period between cuts) at Supercuts, Tina didn't make me feel like she could honestly care less about her work and my hair. Quite the opposite! I'm from the 'burbs originally, so 55 dollars for a wash, cut and style seems damn expensive to me, but it really was a good experience. I think Tina is a nice lady with a decent salon and skills. I was disappointed at the price tag for a cut and color ($180) but at least she was willing to work with my budget once I let her know just how out of reach this was for me and for what I needed done. She did a good color job and the trim she gave me was just fine. No frills, just business so if that's what you're looking for then this is the place for you. What was really disappointing was that she wanted cash only, so it makes me think she's more interested in the one time cash deal than in building a client based business. So I finally worked up the courage to get a haircut. I naturally turned to Yelp for help since I'm new to Oakland. I called this place up at 10:30 on a Saturday and got an appointment for noon the same day. That's a very good thing, 'cause had I had more time to my appt, I probably would have chickened out. My appt was with Karen and she was awesome. I wasn't much help to her... All I knew was that I wanted short hair (radical change from hair that was half-way down my back). She managed to work with my limited instructions and came up with a great cut that got me compliments all weekend... It's asymmetrical, imaginative, and unboring. I moved to Oakland last summer and have tried several different places to get my hair done, but I wasn't satisfied with any of them. I decided to just walk along Piedmont Avenue and see if any of the salons struck my fancy and there was Salon Fabuleux. It's a cute, clean little place, and there wasn't anyone waiting so I decided to give it a try. I wasn't disappointed. Tina was very patient and sweet when I wasn't quite satisfied with the length and went through the whole haircut again to get it just right. She spent an hour with me and did a wonderful job. I was really pleased with the haircut and the excellent service and I'm done searching for a new salon or hairdresser because Tina is the best! I was so pleased that I took my mom to her the next weekend and she did a fabulous job with my mom's hair as well. I swear she walked out of there looking and feeling twenty years younger! read more

I found Tina at Salon Fabuleux on Yelp this summer when my mother was down visiting from an isolated coastal village in Canada. Until then I had been getting my long hair trimmed once to twice a year in Vancouver when I went home for visits. Tina cut my mom's hair exactly how she asked her to, and it has grown out beautifully - she is down for another visit and returned to her today for another beautiful cut. Tina also did a beautiful pedicure for my mom that first visit. After getting a gift certificate for her to do my toes, I decided to also get Tina to trim my hair. She did a fantastic job of both, and I returned to her for a very reasonably priced manicure ($15). She gives a discount on your first haircut, is pleasant, listens to what you want, and delivers the goods. Not only that, but her little salon is very clean, and you can tell she maintains her things well and follows CA health safety codes to protect your health and that of her other customers. Considering the location, her prices are very fair - less than average for some services and average prices for hair cut. Like other reviewers, I have to give Tina my highest recommendation. PS - as an added bonus, she uses organic hair products for cleaning and conditioning that are phosphate free and I now use them at home. I love that going to her has also inspired me to take better care of my health and the environment. read more

Tina is amazing. I hardly ever get my haircut and when I do, I'm taking off at least 12-16inches. My hair is jot your typical Asian hair, its fine but kinky. I know, weird right? I showed her a style that normally wouldn't work and the magician tht she is, got it pretty damn close. I still have to do some flat ironing but I love how my hair turned out anyway she did show me how to get it flat with a barrel brush and blowdryer but I'm not patient enough to do it. lol. She also cut my 5 year olds hair. My 5 year old has never got a hair cut and was so good with her to make her comfortable. I love how her layers turned out and I'm usually not a fan of layers, usually because I've seen stylist use blades instead of shears. read more

This was my first time coming in after years of living in the area and Tina was very welcoming and accommodating. I was a walk-in for a haircut but knew I wanted to get my hair lightened too. The haircut was great! Then I came back for the color, which was more of a color correction because I thought I could get to a light blonde with box color, after getting my hair colored a dark brown and a deep red before that. After Tina was done the results were mind blowing. I did not think I would ever get the red/orange out of my hair! However Tina accomplished it on first try. I seen my friend at school and she got these beautiful blonde highlights that stood out. I asked her where she got it done at. She said at Salon Fabuleux by Tina. She recommended me to get my highlights done there since I liked her highlights. So I went that following weekend. And omg I am in love with my hair cut and style!! Tina is the best. She is soooo sweet and always has nice conversation while cutting my hair. Also, I always get a hug before I leave. I love it! She's like my new best friend. Listen, I have some thick, THICK hair and I know I shouldn't complain but I do because it can be really unmanageable. Right now I'm maintaining sort of a short a-line haircut which I love. Every other place I've been to get my hair done in the past year has charged me between $12-20 and I always walk out feeling bad about myself because they don't DO IT RIGHT. Tina is a magician. My hair is so sexy, manageable, perfect. I have that much more confidence because my hair looks good all the time. When I first went into the salon, she was concerned that I hadn't asked her about prices. I guess she'd had a few unhappy customers before about that. I had my hair cut by the owner Tina and she was FABULOUS at fixing the horrible hack job I recieved from a bored hipster clearly only cutting hair for drug money at public barber salon in SF. I live next door so I got the neighbor discount (which was so sweet of her) and she was also very nice and easy to talk to (sometimes I get intimidated by stylists). I was a little nervous because the salon looks like it might be targeted towards African American or Asian hair (not in a racist way but in a hair expertise way since i have dificult hair) but Tina was totally competant and gave my dry extremely curly hair a great style. I think it's normally $50 for a cut and I was happy to pay it even though it's a little more than I usually would for a haircut in order to support a local small business owned by a minority woman. Tina rocks. I went to a ton of different hair places, from cheap to hyper-expensive, for years before I found Tina. She knows how to cut guys' hair. She does what you want and has impeccable attention to detail. When it looks good even when it's messy, dry, with product, or just out of the shower, you know it's a good cut. I've done super-short (shaved head recovery) and grown it way out - she's managed every time to pull it off. Tina who runs the salon is a wonderfully helpful, warm and caring person. It is always a pleasure to go there. I have been using her for face waxing and eyebrow tinting and occasional manicures. I am very satisfied. She is predominantly a hair stylist and the only reason I have not had her do my hair is because I have been going to a hair stylist for a long time and am loyal to her.
