This was my first appointment here and I was with the Hair Stylist Danielle. The appointment was long but I loved the amount of care and effort she put into cutting my hair. I wasn't rushed or anything! I had the sudden urge to cut off all my hair into a bob after seeing my current hair in a picture of me in the sun... My hair was BAD .. I could see the color difference between my natural hair growing out and the old bleached hair that I dyed a chocolate brown. I was panicked when I saw this in my picture... It was literally looking at two separate people's hair. YIKES.. Danielle saved the day! I usually have a tough time finding a good stylist but I'm glad I trusted Danielle with this transition from long to short hair. For background, I'm the kind of person who is petrified - PETRIFIED - of telling a hair stylist if there is something I want them to fix or add about the cut. I tell hair stylist what I want, I show pictures, and pray to all mighty God they understand. 40% of the time, I leave unsatisfied and go get a second hair cut and this process starts again (more of a me problem - I know, I know). BUT - with Jinky, she not only asked me what I wanted prior to the cut, but it was an on going conversation throughout the cut. It felt like every 3 minutes she would stop, explain what she was doing and confirm if this was what I wanted. She actively was seeking my input the WHOLE TIME. It was amazing. And it was clear she totally understood what I wanted - and she TRUSTED what *I* wanted for *my* hair, and went for it. I wanted tons of layering and texturing, and instead of just moving on to the next section of hair after texturing, she would STOP AND ASK ME if I wanted more or if it was enough. She would give me time to look. She would ask me to run my fingers through my hair to get a sense of what I wanted. Do YALL UNDERSTAND HOW FABULOUS THIS IS????? BUT I got out of the shower and just kind of scrunched my layers as they dried- SUPER CUTE. Natural volume and curl. Sorry, but I'm not paying nearly 1k for braids. I'm also not paying $60". Yes - these were the prices given to me via other braiders I reached out to. Anywho, I sent Matoma a text, provided her with a pic of the style I wanted and asked her for a price. It was extremely reasonable and within my budget. I showed up to her home with my hair already washed and blowdryed. She has a salon chair in the middle of her living room and she was very welcoming, even asking if there was any show/movie I wanted to watch on Netflix. I had no preference and just staying glued to my phone. I was also, as she was braiding my hair, able to relax and take a really long nap, which was much needed. She didn't hurt my scalp while she was braiding and listened to my instructions of not grabbing my edges to braid - which is important if you want to keep them! She quietly talked on the phone or watched television herself. This was definitely appreciated because sometimes you just want to relax while getting your hair done, which was the case with me. Anyways, a few things to note: depending on the style of your braids, you may have to provide the human hair, but she does provide you with affordable options and tells you where to purchase. Also, I would recommended keeping your schedule open the day of your appointment. I was there from 8AM-4PM. I also have long, thick hair, so that could've been why it took awhile, but regardless, I would not make any additional plans the day of your appointment. That being said, I think Matoma is very talented, very nice, and her prices are very fair. I will definitely return to her going forward.

I had spent a year growing my hair out and specifically asked for soft layers while keeping the length. Instead, there's barely any visible layering or shape at all. Friends and family genuinely keep asking if I even got a haircut. The attached photo is my hair five days later, and this was supposed to be the final result of a layered cut. I've now booked another haircut at a different salon because I still don't have the haircut I originally asked for. I completely understand subtle cuts and preserving length, but this did not feel like premium service or a professional result for the price point.
