Best haircut of my fine, wavy, slightly tender mid-life hair's LIFE. She listened deeply. Not just to what I wanted, but to my hair's history -- very fine hair, the over-highlightedness, the "please don't make me look like I'm trying too hard." I felt completely safe in her chair. She read my wave pattern, my energy, my lifestyle... then did her thing. And wow. It paid off. My sister said "va va vroooom." My partner lost it (in the best way). My friends were like omg YESSSSS. I walked out feeling like I'd discovered a glamorous secret femme hair club. The studio itself is serene and plant-filled, tucked up a quirky little stairway. No loud salon chaos. No stylists shouting over each other. Just a seasoned, NYC-cool stylist with impeccable instincts and her tiny sleepy dog keeping the vibe soft. If you have fine waves and want someone who actually understands texture, movement, and grown-woman glam, this is your person. read more

The Styling Nook - Hair color + new cut. :) - Hair Stylists Near Me - Oakland, California

After reading Yelp reviews, I reached out to Redd via SMS and she was able to fit me in before the end of day. She welcomed me and showed me to her clean. We talked about my hair and she made recommendations -- and did quite a nice cut and style on my hair. It looks much better and I have tips on how to help maintain the ends better. I'm looking forward to the next visit! Thanks! read more

Haircut was ok. Pricing wasn't transparent. Site mentioned something like 60/70$ but after the cut the stylist asked for $150.

Redd is dangerously good. If you're single, stay away, you'll fall in love with this hair stylist! She'll take your skull in her hands and scissorhands-sculpt art of your soul and into your hair. She'll reveal what your hair could've been all along. I've let her decide what fits my face best and I absolutely adore how cute yet bad a$$ she makes me look each time I go in. There's a very comfortable silence of trust after you let her know what style you're going after. She serves the kind of hair justice that makes you marvel at how beautiful it grows back. And you'll watch it transform as the weeks go by, obsessed, but you go back for more and'll get it cut again because she can make you look good again and again. A true artist. read more

Redd is hands down the best stylist I've ever had. She's one of the few people who actually cares about men's hair, and takes the time to actually consider what would look good with your hair texture, shape, and face. Her cuts also grow out very gracefully, so there's no awkward phase in a month where things look strange. She's also opinionated in the best way--she doesn't just mindlessly do whatever you bring up, she'll give you honest feedback on ideas and work with you to find what works read more

Redd is hands down the best when it comes to a great men's cut. She's got an incredible eye for detail and really takes the time to make sure the cut fits your style. The whole experience is relaxed and easy--she listens, nails the execution, and you leave looking sharp. If you're looking for someone who's talented and professional, Redd's your person. read more

Really unhappy with the haircut. I would not have posted if she had not been so condescending and irritated when I when back to attempt to get an adjustment. I have short hair to begin with and she probably cut over half of my hair. I don't know how there was such a disconnect in what I wanted and what I received. I usually have wave and movement to my hair, all I can do with this cut is smooth it down so it doesn't stick out in weird ways. What is left does not feel like my hair and all I can do is wait for it to grow out. read more

Redd has been my go-to stylist for a number of years. She's great at styling and cutting my hair. She always asks whether I've been happy with the last cut and listens to my suggestions. Redd is also not shy about telling me if my idea is a bad one! I appreciate that. I've been to too many stylists who will do what I ask without considering whether the style is right for me. Go see Redd. You'll be pleased with the result. read more

Red is an amazing with my hair. I love the way my hair grows out of the haircut as well. She is a magician with the scissors! She's really skilled at cutting a lot of different types of hair. She can style my husband's hair (short haircut), my daughters, super long hair to her waist/ butt. Kinda wavy and curly. My hair's medium length, slightly wavy. We all have that asian black hair which can be sometimes difficult to style/cut. I'm always really happy with hair after seeing Red. in fact, I need to make an appointment ASAP. read more

Best haircuts in a long time. Redd helped me find a style that works and her cuts are consistently good unlike other experiences I have had. Highly recommend. read more

Redd is an amazing stylist. I take both my kiddos to see her at The Plum in SF, and Redd gives them the BEST haircuts! One of my kiddos has curly, fine, long hair, and I've always been hesitant to have his hair cut by just anyone, given the terrible haircuts I had as a kid - and I only trust Redd. My other kiddo has long, straight, fine hair. Both cuts for the kids are awesome! Redd does an incredible job of listening to both me and my kids' input and then ensuring their cuts are precisely what we are looking for. Redd's cuts are so good that I only need to take the kids in about 3 times a year for haircuts. She's worth every penny! read more

Redd is a great colorist who is mindful of the sensitivities I have with hair dye. She is a good listener and worked with me to help me achieve a proficiency with styling my own hair at home. read more

Redd does amazing things with my hair! I am a 65 year old woman with fine hair that has been colored for 40 years. She manages to make my hair look full and healthy. She gives great tips , too. My nickname for her is "the hair whisperer". I highly recommend Redd. read more

Sophia was wonderful. I have coarse curly hair that can be overwhelming. She had a vision for taming and styling it. Wholeheartedly recommend her. read more

First, she is consistent in her high quality of haircuts. I've been going to her now for years and I travel from San Mateo all the way to Berkeley to see her because it's worth it to me to know I'm getting a great cut each time. Hard to not also love how friendly and flexible she is. I appreciate having a stylist that I enjoy talking to and catching up with each month. She's great. Sticking with her as long as I live in the SF Bay area! I could get a less expensive cut, but you get what you pay for - seeing her is definitely worth it. read more

Redd has been my haircutter/stylist for the last 5 years. I love Redd's cuts, as I look stylish, not just the day of the cut, but in the several weeks afterwards. With Redd, I can go a few weeks longer before getting my next haircut, as I love the way my hair grows in. Redd charges very reasonable prices. She is able to keep costs low as she operates her salon, which is very clean, decorative and professional, at the back of her house. read more

Sophia is a straight up hair artist! I felt transformed after this haircut and would highly recommend her to anyone that wants to be blown away. My hair feels lighter and way more stylish now! read more

Redd is nothing short of a true artist. I've had my hair done in Paris, New York, London, and SF and she absolutely stands out. Also has a lovely personality, creates a relaxing environment with a beautiful esthetic, and is a great listener. I wouldn't look further in the Bay Area and even if I didn't live in the Bay Area I'd come back for excellent service! Also very reasonably priced for the consistent, reliable quality. read more

I have been getting my haircut with Redd for a few years now. Not only does she understand what my natural hair texture is and what looks good with it, but she's taught me how to take better care of my hair! Totally worth it. read more

Redd is amazing. She is a gifted artist and applies this talent to her work. She listened and instantly knew how to take my wishes and incorporate them into a cut that was perfect for my face and so flattering. Her skill and attention to detail are outstanding. Amazing. I can't imagine what I would do if Redd ever decides to retire or move to another area! She's so so so good at creating effortless and beautiful haircuts - it's been such a game changer for me. My hair looks good, it grows out well, and I feel just great at the end of every appt. She's also a wonderful human being. Honestly, she's one of the best. read more

Redd is the only stylist I will trust with my thick, coarse, curly hair. She's been cutting my difficult hair for at least 10 years and manages to tame and style it in a way which is both easily maintained and flattering. She really understands hair and what best suits her client's personality and lifestyle, giving them what they want and explaining why a style will or won't work with knowledge and complete honesty. She has a true artist's eye and I trust her vision for what will work best for me implicitly. read more

Sophia is the best kept secret in the Bay. I came to her in a moment of despair after a stylist "accidentally" bleached and destroyed my hair. Now, 5 years after she performed miracles on my follicles, she is the only person I trust with my hair. Every time I sit in her chair I know I'll leave looking and feeling amazing. I've done everything from trims to bangs to major cuts, her environment is always warm and inviting, and my hair has never been healthier! read more

Redd started and perfected her craft in New York City before moving to the bay area. Her talent and skills are exceptional and she always gives good advice for the best style that suits me. Great customer service too and pleasant personality. I'd say she is one of the best hair dressers in the bay area. read more

Redd is wonderful to work with. I've seen her for almost 2 years and she consistently does a great job with my hair. She takes a longer term look at balancing out your hairstyle, helping shape it gradually over time to match the look you're aiming for, while ensuring you look really good at each stage. Her puppy, Nelly, is awesome too :) read more

If you are looking for an amazing cut in a covid-safe environment, look no further! Redd is fully vaccinated, her space is big and airy. And she is a hair genius! I went there ready to do a Pixie cut because I was so over my fried, thin, scraggly post-chemo hair. But she envisioned a bob with a lot of layers, a serious plan for hydration, and color. My hair looks great, and I finally feel good about it again! read more

What can I say about Redd that hasn't already been said? She's a wizard, extraordinaire, expert....whatever other words come to mind, she's that. Within a matter of 5 minutes she knew exactly what I wanted and how it would best suit my face shape and hair type. As we speak, I'm probably around 1 1/2 weeks into my new haircut and living my best life. I have my touch-up appointment scheduled with her in 2 months because you bet I'm not going to let this hair get ugly ever again. read more

Redd has been cutting my hair for about five years now, and I couldn't be happier. I completely trust her with my hair, ask her to do whatever she thinks will look best, and always get complements after I get it cut. Even after moving to the North Bay, I'm more than happy to travel to Redd for my hair care. read more

I don't usually write reviews, but this one is long overdue. Redd is exceptional, both for her skills and for who she is as a person! She has been cutting, coloring and styling my hair for years, and now cuts my daughter and son's hair as well. After a visit to her salon, I often get asked who cuts my hair or who colors my hair. She is very selective about the products she uses, so you can trust that they are safe, including the straightening/relaxing treatment she uses. She is genuine and caring. You should definitely go see Redd. Once you do, you won't go to anyone else. read more

I loved my haircut from last time so much, I knew Redd would not disappoint when I wanted a bob. I cannot get over the wave it's picked up. And it's so easy to control!! She's basically magic. read more

I loved this studio, very relaxing setting and Redd did a great job with my hair as well!

There are a lot of places to get a men's haircut in Oakland, but she is absolutely the best. She takes the time to listen to what you want, and then deliver the haircut you were asking for. Often this means understanding what you're asking for, even if you (the non hair stylist) don't use the right words to describe it! Scheduling is easy and consistent. For all of these reasons, she's been my go-to for many years. read more

Redd's fantastic! Even though she always checks in to see what I'd like to do, I feel completely comfortable leaving it in her hands. As a guy, I don't really have exact notes to give her, so it's so relaxing to know that she'll bring out the best. No corners are cut (pun intended!) and it always looks amazing at the end! read more

So far I am very happy with the work Redd does. I sent my husband to her after he let his hair grow out too long. He complained about most hair salons and stylists not quite getting it right, so I found Redd and sent him in. He has been SUPER happy with the magic she works. So I finally went in and had her do my hair. I have also been ruined in the past by inept hair stylists, so I was happy to try out a real professional. She NAILED it. I showed her a pic of the cut I was going for and we talked a lot before my appt about color ideas. Wow did she blow me away with what we came up with. I love my haircut, and its is pretty much exactly like the picture I showed her, if not better. I have very heavy dense hair, and she lightened the load on my head that I can finally have beautiful movement to my hair. I would highly recommend that you give her a try and trust her instincts. Do try and have a very good idea of what you want so she has a good place to start from. My husband and I will continue to keep going to see Redd and I hope you do too! read more

Redd will make your hair dreams come true. She's magical! I went in with the flattest, saddest, dated, basic, not me, not flattering for my face or personality hair ever--I didn't even want to look at in the mirror at it. I gave her the deets--post partum hair loss I'm trying to hide, cowlicks all up in my hair, I don't have a ton of time to style, etc.... The cut she gave me was so good I caught not one but two stalkers on the walk home haha (true story--funny, but not). Even my skeptical 6 year old complimented me on how different and better I looked. I feel I look at least 5 years younger. Her place is gorgeous, she's an absolute delight, and her skills are out of this world. Trust her to do her thing and you will be ecstatic with the results! Thanks, Redd! read more

What a badass, you know Redd is one of those once in a lifetime artists that transcend the norm and all preconceived notions that one may have of a particular art form. Instead of a stylist, I think descriptors like sculptor or even architect are more fitting. Whenever I get my hair cut by her all I ever do is indicate the level of rebellion vs. respectability I'm currently feeling and also the level of symmetry vs asymmetry I'm leaning towards and let her do the rest. Her space is great, nice modern and lots of light. Great chandeliers, a huge mirror and probably the coolest barber chair I have ever sat in, being that it started out its life as an Eames lounge chair. My only complaint is that I wish my hair grew faster so I could get more transformations of my look and style on a regular basis. read more

I told Redd I wanted Rock Star hair, and she gave it to me. She gave my natural hair a really great, funky cut, then added a few strategically placed extensions to add even more interest. I feel like a modern day Joan Jett....which is a pretty rad way to feel. She's way more than a "stylist" IMO. She's a sculptor. My hair is a work of art. read more

The Styling Nook - Who needs makeup when your hair makes a statement? - Hair Stylists Near Me - Oakland, California

I needed a makeover because 1. I've grown my hair 2. I have let it go grey, being very particular about the design values that a stylist has I turned to Yelp where I found Redd. I went to her and can easily say I got the best haircut that I've ever had and I've almost always gone to the best I could find anywhere. Redd is not only nice as a person as a stylist she knows exactly what she is doing and looks at you in her own way as an artist, that is priceless. She worked with my natural hair growth pattern and wavy hair and gave me a cut few would have the tenacity and subtelty to give. According to her "you dont want people to look at you and say what a haircut, you want people to look at you and say what a guy" I went with my partner and she also got the best cut of her life. The space is wonderful and her two dogs are the most adorable in the world. We hope to see her again in 6 weeks and reccomend her very highly. Redd is nothing short of a masterful creatrix. I have a thick mane of hair that she curates into perfection each time I'm in the studio. I can't even say how many people have commented on my "amazing hair". Both my cuts and color are always to perfection and most of all, EASY to shape on my own. She doesn't believe in "work" for great looking, every day hair. I literally wash my hair and within less than ten minutes, my hair is day ready. Highly recommend! read more
