Since I moved to Easy Bay many years ago from the city, I have not been able to find a hairdresser I would go to regularly. So I drove to the city to see my old friend and my formal to go hairdresser. She cuts my hair short and says " see you in a year". But then she retired. On a Sunday walk, I ventured out of my usual path, and my luck struck. I passed by the corner of 44 th / Telegraph and discovered this hair salon. I searched on Yelp and read customers' praise. I called him and set an appointment. It is pandemic time, how does he handle the situation? He wore a mask. He cleaned out the room after the previous customer. He sprayed the room with an air cleanser, then left the door open for few minutes. He then led me in. He handed me an eye shield to cover my eyes which effectively protected me from any possible droplet. He handed me hand sanitizer before I left. He assessed my hair first, then asked how I would like it cut. I showed him a photo. He got right to work. My eye shield fogged up, I could not see how my hair was cut. But I felt very much at ease. Not worried about my haircut at all. After a meticulous and masterful cut, he washed my hair with a gentle scalp massage and a neck massage. This is almost the best part of the experience. Them came the layer by layer blow dry and styling. My hair turned out exactly what I asked him for, only better. K is an experienced hairstylist. He is gentle and patient. He pays attention to detail and style. You also get great music ( jazz) to enjoy and relax. I left there with a great feeling and a better look. I am so glad I found my hairdresser. Once you walk in, you know you're in a salon that is clean, well valued, and have a sense of serenity! The decor is also on point and there has never been a time that I've gone that the shop has been in a disarray. What shop have you ever been to that's always spotless and smell good at all times no matter how busy it is. Toni makes sure she takes pride in her brand and is a perfect example of her work! She is always put together and never makes excuses as to why her hair or appearance is a mess and she is always professional. This is why I was shocked to see the 1 star review that was left! I'm not a hairstylist, but I do have curly hair and know that my curly hair will never be bone straight with a relaxer. A relaxer is made to straighten your hair, but a good stylist is able to keep your hair healthy by keeping the integrity of your texture, especially when you want to add color. That is one thing Toni and I have discussed when she has colored my hair in the past. Her motto is healthy hair first! She is not one of those stylist that will put chemicals in your hair without you understanding what comes with the process. I love how she has taken care of my scalp; which has allowed my hair to grow and it's the healthiest it has ever been. No more shedding! No more flakes! No more dead hair! I have a beautiful full short cut with volume and she's even gotten my thin sides to fill in. I am thankful that Toni always puts her clients first, always reinvesting in her hair studio, takes the time to always educate her clients, and most recently have made major changes to incorporate COVID changes that proves she's not playing any games with our health nor hers!

Eric is the best and a real hair-artist! I've been going to him for at least 3 years and I always love what he does. He's especially great for people who are looking for unique and edgy cuts (but of course he can do the normal ones too!) I love how he always coordinates the color with the cut so that that they work together. And if you ask him, he'll be honest about whether or not he thinks a certain cut or color will look on you with your facial shape/skin tone etc, which is great! He's also super fun to talk to in the chair and has a great sense of humor! He's always working on separate hair-art projects too and even designed some amazing wigs for one of my films. read more

I recently received airy curtain bangs and layers from Eric a few weeks back. I found them to be very approachable and we had a fantastic conversation. This was my initial experience with a razor cut, and I was pleasantly impressed. It's clear that Eric is highly skilled and pays attention to detail. I made an appointment weeks ahead of time for a cut and highlights. When I went to my appointment Eric was late to begin with and had a general bad attitude. He then told me he was triple booked and didn't have time to highlight my hair, but could maybe do a single process. He made me feel like a nuisance and that he just wanted me to leave. Instead of having him rush through my hair and give me something I didn't want, I just left. I have never been in a more unprofessional salon. Eric did an AMAZING job taking my virgin Asian hair to platinum blonde. I didn't even know my hair could get this color... I am emanating STRONG Daenerys vibes. "It's shorter than the photos and I don't feel very good about it." She decided to stop and told me she wasn't comfortable cutting my hair anymore, since "you're clearly uncomfortable," and "the trust has been broken," Which I mean, I was... She suddenly offered to refer me out and said she'd reach out in a couple of days, and didn't charge me, but not paying hadn't even occurred to me... she rushed me out so she could do her "cleansing ritual" for the "negative energy" or something since she had 7 more clients after me... which she kept saying over and over. I asked if we could dry it or add some product or do the finishing touches and she said no... so I just awkwardly left with very wet hair. I just moved here and was really looking forward to developing a long term relationship with a stylist. I think gender affirming hair can take some trial and error and working with a stylist over time can help find "the" haircut. Feedback after each cut, taking in the knowledge from the stylist/learning from them, coming back every few months, etc. it's a journey. I was nervous and dissatisfied, but breathing and calm since I know this. The cut itself is fine, it's not exactly what I asked for but I mean... her skills at cutting hair are evident. My first haircut with her was a 10/10... To me it was more the reaction and shock and being rushed out and now I have a much shorter haircut (that I didn't ask for) that could use some touch ups, and that I don't know how to style, since normally I air dry my hair with some basic product which we talked about. The plan was that I would still be able to put it up and now I have basically a pixie... it's been a very upsetting and confusing experience... and it's hair and it'll grow out and I think it'll look more like my reference photos in a few months and with some small adjustments... I just wish she had responded differently and we could have continued working together. I'm not angry or posting this to be a "Karen," just thought it would be appropriate to share since this has really hurt me and been an emotional roller coaster, I felt a lot of distress that day and am still feeling distress and anxiety over the experience. Other stylists have confirmed that my concerns were logical, that the cut is in the same family but missed the mark and is definitely significantly shorter... and that the response was odd, we could have talked about ways to style it, product, addressed my concerns, made a plan for next time, anything...
