I've been seeing Vi for about 15 years and cannot imagine letting anyone else color, cut or style my hair. I've run the gamit from long to short, dark to highlighted hair and Vi just knows what I'm looking for. Love the place and highly recommend it for men, women and kids. read more

I found the salon on Groupon (for partial highlights and cut) and gave it a go! The salon was very clean and cute. Abby did an amazing job with my hair which was poorly done prior. The color turned out perfect and I haven't said that about my hair in a long time! I will be back! read more

I went to Salon de Vive randomly as it was a salon close to my friend's place. I was desperate for a blow dry as my hair (curly, coarse, unruly) was not done and was feeling too lazy to do it myself. I booked a blow dry with the owner, Vi and she fit me in asap. To cut the review short, Vi gave me the best blow dry I've ever received (and as a person with thick curly dry hair, that is not an easy feat). I've had a blow dry done at the hands of many a stylist and I was shocked. I didn't even wash my hair for over a week to let it last as long as it did. Trust me, my hair is impossible to smooth out, and I don't know what she did, but it was magic. Also, while I was getting the blow dry, we talked about hair treatments and she recommended the GK keratin treatment for my hair. I've gotten many a keratin treatment in the past and was looking for something a little stronger. I didn't want to just eliminate frizz, I wanted to make my curls wavy so I can literally wash and go (because I'm very lazy and never, ever get to do that with my current hair). So I booked a treatment with her (because the aforementioned blow dry was insane and clearly she knew what she was doing). Two plus hours at the salon (I have a lot of hair) flew by because she's just super easy and pleasant to talk to, and the treatment is awesome. My hairline, which is often my curliest and coarsest part, was so smooth and straight, while the rest of my hair was wavy and soft. I didn't even bother straightening it, which I'm sure would have taken no more than ten minutes (down from around 40). I realize this review is getting lengthy but honestly, she was fantastic, as were the hair services! read more

If you're looking for a great cut/style/color every single time you head to the salon, then NATALIE is the person to see. She has been my stylist for 8 years and I have loved the results every single time I've gone. I'm super picky about who I trust with my hair and after finding Natalie, I wouldn't consider going to anyone else. Salon De Vive is a super cute, boutique-y salon...warm, relaxed atmosphere and sweet people. 5 stars for sure. read more

Beata is the best! She recently moved to Salon de Vive from her prior post at Haircut City, and although Salon de Vive is much farther away for me, it is totally worth the trip. She has been cutting my hair for 5 years now and I wouldn't trust anyone else. She is thorough and VERY talented. The salon itself really impressed me too. It has a nice homey feel and everyone else seemed very approachable. Highly recommend! read more

I saw Christina, the master waxtress that shares space with this salon and OMG- she is amazing! Professional, fast... I swear to you she did my ENTIRE brazilian in less than 5 minutes. It took me longer to take my clothes off then it did for her to wax me. She made the entire process comfortable and I will be referring everyone I know to her. Not that I will be going around suggesting that people have their foof waxed off...that would be weird. But you know...if anyone asks, read more

Christina was a pleasure and wax was pretty painless. We did get off to a rocky start as she missed our first appointment but her great attitude and wonderful customer service made up for it. read more

I called in very last minute asking if they could fit me in for highlights and a cut on the same day. They were able to accommodate and did an absolutely fantastic job. I have extremely curly hair and very picky about salons, but I had let my color go for so long it was just time. Emmett fit me in later for the afternoon and walked me through what his thoughts were for a "fresh" look. I appreciated that they didn't try to up-sell me for services or products and I ended up spending more because of that. They had a special on the website for first time customers but it was just an added bonus because of how happy I was with my service. HIGHLY recommend and with absolutely be back. read more

I love this place .. Emmit my stylist really takes his time to give me the hair extensions of my dreams. He really explains how to take care of them . The salon is super friendly and everyone makes me feel welcomed .. Just wish I cam here years ago . Since, there 2 blocks from my house. Thanks Salon De Vive .. read more

Just had my hair done by Beata and cannot stop smiling! I purchased the Groupon to try out this local salon in my neighborhood and I couldn't be happier. The salon ambiance is a perfect blend of elegance & homey from the chandeliers to the comfy couch in the waiting area. They use high end products like Aveda, Moroccan Oil & Kevin Murphy. The salon chairs are heated & vibrate and the wash bowls are actually comfortable. Beatty listened to what I wanted and delivered it perfectly with a wealth of knowledge and outstanding skill. I'm blonde so I'm pretty particular when it comes to finding a stylist and now I don't need to look any farther. Would highly suggest this salon! read more

My first time here was last week. I saw McKenzie and she was really sweet and asked a lot of questions about what I wanted to do. I love how my hair turned out and using my groupon to pay was not an issue at all. read more

I had a great experience here. I had the Groupon for full highlights. My stylist, Beata, was very kind and listened to exactly what I wanted done with my hair. She blended my blonde highlights perfectly, and even though I arrived a few minutes late (uber driver got lost) she took her time doing a wonderful job. I also asked for her to trim off just the split ends and that's exactly what she did. I love my new color!! Everyone here was very friendly. I had never been to this salon and would definitely come back. Thanks Salon de Vive! read more

I have been coming to Salon de Vive for a few years now. And Vi the owner does an amazing job! She is very personable, pays attention to detail, and I can usually get an appointment within 1 to 2 weeks without fail. Her rates are very affordable. And parking is free! I would highly recommend anyone to switch to her as you will not be disappointed. A few of my friends have switched stylists. And they all sing her praises. I constantly get compliments from strangers on my cut whenever I am out. read more

I highly recommend this salon. Vi is my stylist. She's attentive and is never afraid to try something new. The atmosphere is elegant but the personalities are very down to earth. Hip music is always on in the background. Thanks for the awesome service and hair cut! read more

I got a groupon here for a single process color and cut...beata was reallly helpful and did an excellent job. Definitely would return!!

When I moved to Chicago, I searched long and hard for a hairstylist who could get my color (blonde) right. Well, after lots of failed attempts, I finally my home for hair coloring in Chicago with Stefanie. She nails my color every time, even when I adjust the shade of blonde depending on the season (I know, I live on the edge!). Stephanie has a way of making you feel like you're long lost friends from the moment you meet her, and she genuinely cares to know what's going on with you. I have since referred other blondes who are equally as happy with their color and cut. The salon is near a pastry shop, liquor store, bar, Starbucks, and cute shop, so you're able to celebrate and/or show-off your new look in style! read more

I've been a client of Natalie for over a year now for highlights and hair cuts. Now my neighborhood go-to spot for great and reliable service. I first came to Natalie with too short layers and she's been awesome with helping to keep me stylish while we've worked on getting my hair to a happier place. Natalie is great professionally and is a pleasure to be around personally. So nice to have a hair stylist that listens and that I trust. I look forward to seeing her on a regular basis and knowing that I'm going to leave a little happier and more glamorous! read more

I just got my hair highlighted and cut by Beata. I am so impressed by how amazing it turned out. Beata is truly a great artist. I look 10 years younger. So happy to find someone who knows exactly what I wanted! read more

I really like Salon de Vive and the people who work there. It is a calm relaxed place with fair prices, and the people their know what they are talking about and actually listen to their clients. Stephanie cuts my hair and has always done an excellent job. I am rather picky and bounced around from place to place. I have had success at other places in Chicago, but this is the place I will get my hair cut from now on. read more

I have been going to Stefanie for years now and have always been thrilled with my cut and color. She always does a fantastic job! Stefanie even did my makeup for my wedding. And considering I got no sleep the night before, she worked wonders!! I even "cheated" recently by seeing another stylist and lived to regret it. The other cut ruined my hair!! (insane split ends, to the point of breakage) But Stefanie has worked with me to repair the damage and months later, my hair is (almost) back to normal. I swear I'll never stray again! read more

I love this salon! Very far from my home, but will travel to get my hair done here! Stephanie is beyond words! She is the sweetest and nicest person, plus she leaves my hair great every time! I get so many compliments on my hair every time I get it done here! Stephanie is the girl to book with! read more

Great experience with Beata. I went here with a Groupon for cut and single process color and she was speedy and my hair felt great and healthy when I left. My only complaint is that I was not offered a drink of water (or anything else) the whole time there. The sinks also kill my neck/back of my head but that is something that happened everywhere for me except one salon. read more

Had a great experience at Salon De Vive! I bought a Groupon for full highlights and a cut and was not disappointed. Beata did a wonderful job with my blonde highlights. She really took the time and made sure I received exactly what I was looking for. Definitely recommend! read more

i have been getting my hair cut at Salon de Vive for over eight years and have been with Stephanie for the last five. I would never consider going anywhere else. The room is open and sunny and as invitingly warm as each member of the staff. From the moment I walk in to the shampoo to sitting in the chair, I am treated like the only person there. Stephanie is so attentive to every need and hair on my head I never have a moment's doubt that I will look my best when I walk out. I'm just a dude so I can't speak for the much more intensive women's services, but if I'm paying $37 for a haircut and raving about it, you know it's good. read more

I started going to Salon de Vive two years ago when I moved to the neighborhood. By chance, I made an appointment with Stephanie and have been so happy with her styling ever since! I have long hair, so I don't go in that often. However, every time I visit, Stephanie makes me feel like a valued client. She takes her time and gives me an awesome cut. I almost feel bad going back more often, but my hair always looks great, even when its going out. The place is great. Its really clean, its never hectic and loud. Street parking is available. Overall, a great experience and I would never go anywhere else! Be sure to ask for Stephanie! read more

Emmett is the only person I'll let cut my hair anymore. Completely worth $50 + a hefty tip. He's talked me through every new haircut idea I've ever proposed, was very open-minded and willing to go in any direction I wanted, but also explained to me the potential downsides of the cuts I was interested in. I've learned so much from him about hair, products, styling equipment, and techniques. He's always coaching me to advocate for myself with other stylists who may try to cut my hair using an incorrect technique or convince me of one thing or another that isn't true about my hair. He's been my sole hair stylist over the past two years, and has given me the very best haircuts of my life. Really personable, interesting, and sweet as well. I highly, highly recommend him. read more

I tried this place for the first time a few days ago and had the best experience ever! I got my hair cut and colored. Not only did Stephanie do exactly what i wanted with my hair, she was super nice also. She made me feel comfortable and like she really wanted me to be happy with her work. The salon is so cute and cozy, great atmosphere. The chairs were even more comfortable than any other salon I've been to. They have definitely gained a new loyal client! I have been looking for a place for a while now and the search is over! :) read more

I was searching for a new salon and saw all the positive reviews for Stefanie, so I listened to Yelp and I'm so glad I did. I have never loved a hair cut so much. She really listened to what I wanted, and went over the plan before she started cutting away. Nice atmosphere, overall great salon. I have 0 complaints, and again her work is flawless. To think I almost spent over $100 downtown somewhere! **TIPS ARE CASH ONLY!** so come prepared. Don't hesitate, book here you will not regret it. read more

I went in for a full blonde balayage, cut, and asked for a deep conditioning/hydration treatment as well. Beata did my hair, and I ended up with streaky blonde highlights. It wasn't at all blended, and there were even two random spots of blonde near my roots where she accidentally dripped some of the color and didn't fix it... It looked like some terrible color job straight out of the early 2000s. She spent most of the appointment telling me what terrible condition my hair was in and how she couldn't understand why it was so damaged, when it actuality it wasn't even that bad (my hair has definitely been in worse shape.) She made me feel terrible for the way that my hair is naturally thin and fragile and like I had been walking around looking ugly. Then she proceeded to dry cut my hair for a total of about 3 minutes, making it look choppy and leaving split ends intact. She said she wouldn't do a deep conditioning treatment because I apparently "didn't need it"....despite her going on and on about how dry my hair is. I left the salon in tears and embarrassed by how bad she made my hair look, and I immediately booked an appointment the next day with a different stylist at a different salon. Thankfully she was able to make my hair look healthy and beautiful. I wish I hadn't purchased this Groupon, because I never would've paid for the terrible cut and color I received. Do yourself a favor and never trust Beata with your hair. Unless you have a thing for bad haircuts and wish it was still 2003. In which case she's probably your gal. read more

I purchased a Groupon for a cut and single process hair color for $65 and got a decent deal...let's be honest: I'm just trying to not spend crazy money on a couple grey hairs and trimming a half of an inch from my grow out. And, yes! I did get want I wanted. Abby colored my roots and trimmed my ends without any extra toner costs or any extra service charges (of course I tipped - I'm not a jerk). She was fun, quick and nice enough to spend an hour with. The salon itself could use a serious sweeping but I was there on a Saturday afternoon so who's to say. Will I go back? Maybe. With another Groupon. read more

I bought a Groupon like everyone else, chose Beata based on other reviews. My ultimate goal was for my hair to look beautiful. I trust experts. I have EXTREMELY long hair. I showed her a photo of the color I thought I wanted and she was happy to do that but also showed me other reds that I might like. We settled on mixing two colors. While she's coloring my hair, she casually asks, Why do you keep your hair so long? I stammered and then told her how I thought it was my best feature (but wasn't asking for a compliment), she understood and then told me how she thought it could be more beautiful cutting off damaged ends and giving it shape. I trusted her again. A huge plus for me is she asked once, I told her I trusted her, and then she just did it. She didn't ask for permission again. And 30 minutes later, 5 inches shorter (but still very long), my hair is glossy, healthy and the perfect cherry coke color I was looking for all along. Another great thing, she carries on the perfect amount of conversation! No awkward silences but also no awkward small talk. Go to Beata, trust an expert to tell you what looks best. read more

I had a great experience here today. Not only was it a great groupon deal for the single process color with a haircut but Abby was fantastic. The owner & Abby were both very nice and accomodating. I just moved to Lincoln Park and I definitely will plan on coming back thank you Abby!!! read more

Good haircut, good price. I also liked my hair stylist and the atmosphere!

Go visit Natalie... After going from salon to salon and trying numerous stylists, I finally found Natalie (originally working at a different salon). She has been doing my cut/color for a couple years now and is fantastic. Natalie knows exactly what I want... I'm really picky about my highlights/low lights and she gets it perfect every time. You can imagine my panic when she was no longer at her previous salon but luckily I found her again at Salon de Vive! Salon de Vive is great. Convenient location in RV, easy street parking, clean/good vibe inside, and I've never had to wait for my appointment. read more

I just love Emmett! I have long highlighted hair and I used to spend HOURS getting it cut and highlighted. Emmett does a great job with my cut and color, is reasonably priced and lets me get on with my Saturday. He is friendly but also respects your privacy if you want to read or just relax during the visit. Couldn't be happier with this place :) read more

I've been seeing Stefanie for a few years now. She rescued my hair from years of damage and harsh products. She always gets the color to exactly what I'm looking for and the cut is always perfect no matter the request. I've also done two keratin treatments with her with great results! She recently changed her process with the keratin treatment and my hair seems softer and straighter than last time. She works so hard and efficiently and is very reasonably priced! An all around great experience every time. read more

I have been going to this salon for over a year now in addition to my son going as well. Vie cuts my sons hair and Abby cuts and highlights mine. I, coming from NYC and in the fashion business advertising world have high expectations. I love every aspect of the salon; the people, their work and eye, in addition to their care and concern. I would highly recommend Salon de Vive to all that want to look good and feel great about themselves. read more

I was shocked when Abby thinned my hair when we just had a conversation about "thinning hair vitamins"! She cut my hair the she wanted, not what the customer wanted! My hair is all choppy--that is NOT what we discussed. And when I stopped her and said I don't want to go that short, she SCOLDED me that it's not about the inches!!! So I guess you were telling me that you simply DON'T care about the customer!!! read more
