First let me say this, I have been here before and had a good experience in the past but this time something was done differently. This last time I went to good beauty for color and cut the stylist left me processing at the sink with my neck laying on a wet towel with chemicals and WITH IN hours my entire head and neck had broke out. I had to go to the emergency room to be seen with $1500 worth of medical bills for a chemical burn reaction. The owner acted as if she was going to have her Attorney reach out to me which she never did. Carla then stopped responding to any of my emails. I'm going to be taking them to small claims court to sue. I also filed a complaint reported them to the IDFPR agency. Did they give me a refund? While walking to drop off migrant donations I passed Good Beauty Thursday afternoon. I circled back to pick up a service menu, but the door was locked. With all that's going on in the area I get that. It appears there may only be 1 or 2 associates working. I knocked on the door and waited and waited. A lady reluctantly came to the door. After looking me up and down with a confused face she reached to unlock the door, but decided instead to talk to me through the glass. A very off-putting experience that I suspect "varies". Having owned a full service salon and day spa for several years I know the importance of moments that matter. I was certainly profiled and won't be returning. read more

I had gotten an airtouch balyage done a few weeks ago at another salon and tried to recently diy toning my hair at home to remove some of the brassy blonde. Well that was a disaster because my dark hair turned brassy and light brown with my dark hair showing up in patches! Ahh! I was looking for a place that could schedule me quickly to fix it and found this place for a next day appointment. Booking was super easy online and when I got there they took my temperature and had me wash my hands. I think Amanda was the girl that was doing my hair (I'm terrible with names sorry!) and did an amazing job fixing my hair! I love it SO much! She added some extra toner to the blonde too and gave me some tips if I were to try to attempt diy toning. I might just stick to the professionals though haha. Loooved the music selection (upbeat) I found this place because i followed my one and only stylist, Nicole. She's the only person i trust with my hair. I want to give a huge huge shout-out to Christina who did my hair on Friday. She was extremely patient and helpful with me with choosing an ideal hairstyle, because I had no idea what I wanted. She did an excellent job on my hair and even today it is super manageable and low maintenance and I still freaking love it! I can even style it without any hassle (thank god). I also wanted to say thank you for being so kind and making me laugh that day, because I was super stressed out and tired all week. Establishment is still amazingly clean from when I had visited about a month ago and they continue to adhere to COVID-19 policies. The staff sanitizes everything after every use and wear masks when taking care of clients. Music is also still super lit AF. Just got a haircut with Carla. Amazing she truly is DA BEST!! I have curly hair and I been looking my curls due to over processing it between bleaching it and diffusing it. She told me what I needed to do and the cut I need to start getting my curls back. She told me straight out, no frosting on the cake. It was hard but majorly appreciated. Customer got life!! I have a party to attend later this week, and I am grateful that I discovered this salon in the process of planning it. Because I truly wanted curly hair, but other salons that I had visited in the past had never been able to get the curly hair that I had always desired; nevertheless, here at good beauty, they were able to create a great curly hair for me. She listened carefully to what I wanted, even though I was debating between two colors, and she walked me through the procedure, which I found helpful because I was worried during the process. I am ecstatic and completely obsessed with my hair at the moment. Definitely highly recommended!!! In addition, the environment was very pleasant, and the staff members were courteous and helpful. Victoria... knowshershit! My nails were MESSED up - when I first came in, I had powder dip AND gel shellacked all over my nails (because I am HARD on my hands at work and while doing demo/remodeling at home), three or four of them were broken down to the quick, they'd been growing out for weeks... and my real nails are weak and paper thin. She was patient, kind, and knowledgeable. She took the time to explain new types of nail techniques and she showed me this awesome new thing for fixing tips, where she creates an extension with a guide (instead of glueing those plastic tips on) - that is far more durable than the old way *AND* looks entirely more natural. She's funny and thoughtful and interesting and genuinely cares about her work and has been doing this, since forever (so, don't let her youth fool you, she's better than many women I've seen, who were two and three times her age)! I can't wait for when I get to see what she can do with my hair! Victoria is everything! {Oh *and* the music is SOOOOO on point!} I just cannot say enough good things, about Good Beauty... other than it should be called, Phenomenal Beauty! I had booked an appointment here for my first time because I had seen their reviews and photos and I was impressed but once Carla finished after 4 hours my hair looked exactly the same and nothing compared to the picture I had showed her. She only added few what seemed to be highlights on top. I was completely embarrassed and ashamed for spending $317 on something that wasn't worth it. Be sure you have the pricing firm before you commit to anything here. My daughter was quoted $250 for a haircut and bleach job and was charged over $400. Love this place! The owner greeted me when I walked in and my stylist, Natalie C., was ready and smiling when I arrived. I had walked in the week before because I was tired of having an orange bun (my balayage was not cute anymore) and wanted to go back to my natural color. Other salons had told me it would take lots of sessions to get back to that, but Natalie said I just needed a single process color and we'd be good to go. She showed me a few swatches and quickly understood that all I wanted was to go back to my original root color. She also understood that I did not want my roots to be touched by dye and she made sure to just cover up the lightened ends. I am in LOVE. The color is perfect and she blow dried it really well so it's smooth and shiny. The service started at $66 but I was charged 3x because my hair needs a lot of product which she had explained at the consult. I am well aware that I have a lot of hair! I have had quite a few stylists make me feel bad about my hair, but Natalie complimented it and said I was lucky to have it. I'll definitely be going back for blowouts and a manicure. The owner had an amazing gold foil look and I need to have it. Best of all, I am all about supporting small businesses owned by women of color. Go here! read more

After my experience with Barbara and Barbara, I decided to try another salon within walking distance from home. My now too short bob (ugh) was growing out in an unflattering way, I was a walk-in on a Saturday late morning and they were able to take me right away. Heiddy is a "level one" but listened to my concerns as well as what I was hoping to not have happen during this grow out process and away we went. I love it. She was able to blend the mushroom layers (anyone with a short bob knows what I am talking about) to smooth out the back and stop that awkward flip. We discussed the timeline and what it will take to get my hair at a place I am happy with and I booked my next appointment. They offer great deals for referrals and rebooking - so make sure to ask! The salon is clean and up-to-date. It would be great if all the products they used were vegan/cruelty free. The only reason I knocked off a star was I stopped here before going to Barbara and Barbara and wasn't impressed with the front desk or lack of information on pricing. The girl at the front desk on Saturday was very sweet and extremely helpful. She was honest about the levels, prices and what I am willing to pay. The first time around - I was to be booked with a "Level 5" and a cut and color was going to be around $500 according to the girl and that was only after I asked! I arrived 5 minutes early and was not greeted and waited 30 minutes before being told the stylist was running late (duh!) with no apologies. I was finally brought back for a consultation and was asked if I wanted my base color changed. No, just a few face framing highlights. Again, I was asked about my base and again stated no. The stylist said she needed to check something. She came back and quoted me $327 for my base color and extra bowls to color my hair. I scheduled a consultation for hair coloring with Yari, I didn't want to make an appointment for the coloring unless I was sure about the salon. (In new to Chicago so I've been shopping around) Yari was so sweet and helpful with giving suggestions and she knew exactly what I was going for!
