I want to leave an update since I last reviewed Sugar Pop. Three years later since my first visit and I still come here on a monthly basis. Beth and her crew absolutely rock. The salon is SO cute, inviting, and they do an awesome job on your hair removal needs. After successfully sugaring my own legs, I now think the problem with my waxing here was the technique. They used the ball of sugar to do armpit, bikini, and feet (my skin was fine in these areas afterwards). Instead of using balls of room temp sugar on my legs, tiny section by tiny section, they spread like over 6 inches at a time on my leg hair and pulled it all at once like that. It was still pulling with the grain- they said, i should have looked- but it left me with all those bumps. They said this is what they were trained to do but i think it broke a lot of hairs. Using MIM sugar paste tubes from the bodega i got flawless results at room temp doing a half tube at a time and ripping quickly. Cornstarch beforehand, afterwards cool water then mountain rose herbs brand witch hazel, 5 min later jojoba oil with 20% tea tree. Total cost buying all of this in bulk: $30 read more

1 star because the service was complete. Sadly my first sugaring was ruined by a heartless encounter with Emily. Unfriendly is an understatement. Knowingly performing my first brazilan Emily worked quickly without guiding me through the experience. Emily laughed at zero of my jokes or desperate attempts to lighten the mood but was quick to laugh when I would shriek from pain...Emily went as low as asking me if I planned on having children.. Based on reviews I feel my service fell short compared to other patrons who raved of feeling comfortable and pampered. As a Latina I did not feel handled with care or accomodated. The Location: very easy to find, close to public transportation (brown line and CTA). The Atmosphere: really cute and light and airy! I really enjoyed the look of the place and they had some fall decorations in the window! I came in to a lot of happy chatter and I felt welcomed into the conversation. Reception: the receptionist was so kind and thorough in her explanation of the waiver process and was willing to answer any future questions I may have. I rescheduled for my next appointment on the spot (if you come back within 5 weeks you pay $10 less). They heavily emphasize that this salon is no tipping - leave an honest review instead! And she gave me these cute referral cards for discounts for my friends. Awesome! The Wax: Jossy was my Sugarista and I got a Brazilian. She's AMAZING! I, like many women, have trust issues when it comes to waxing down under. I felt totally at ease with Jossy and we had a great conversation. I barely felt her waxing. I've never had an eye brow tint done but thought I'd try it out after seeing positive reviews of Sugar Pop. The salon is nice and the staff is friendly but I definitely won't be going back. I had told my aesthetician that it was my first time getting a tint done, that I wanted something natural and definitely not dramatic because I have a lack of eyebrows to begin with. But, when she was done, I was so mortified I ran out and fixed them at home. And despite being someone who tweezes regularly, has had waxing, sugaring and threading done on my brows before... I have someone I go to that gives me a great deal with a Brazilian wax (regular) & brow threading (she's also a friend) BUT I wanted to try something less painful (hoping) & due to being a natural type of woman, with body products, face products, food, you name it, I thought why not my cooch service right?! Anywho....came in & walked into a lovely, positive vibe space. I was greeted by Sarah (sorry if the spelling is wrong) who was lovely and then made my way to the back with Beth. Beth is amazing!!!! We talked about my experience with waxing, she walked me through the process & she gave me tips on what to do in the future. I'm so thrilled this place is open and it's a 10/10 all the way around: the staff, the decor, the cleanliness, the nearly painless hair removal. I highly recommend Beth who is a top notch professional and the business owner. I did the Brazilian and eyebrow sugaring and it was a pretty painless experience (wow!). Not only does Beth know what she's doing technique wise, she makes you feel totally comfortable, educates you during the process, and works pretty darn quickly. I'd recommend calling to book your appointment as the online booking system was down and it seems like it might be glitchy.
