I've seen Laura at Salon Cielo three times now and I am so happy that I found her. She's a wonderful stylist, listens to what I want but also provides guidance and makes sure that I won't go for a style that won't flatter me. When I first saw her I told her that i wanted to cut off my long hair to go for a "Lob" look and she totally nailed it. The cut she gave me frames my face really well and works perfectly with my hair texture. She walked me through how to style it and I've had no trouble following her guidance (even though my experience with hair styling in the past is pretty limited). I've gotten so many complements on my hair, and all my friends marvel at how great the cut is. I've gone back to Laura twice to maintain the style, and on the most recent visit, I asked if we could go a little shorter. She again gave me a super flattering, easy to style cut. She recommends helpful products but is definitely not a product pusher. She's also usually available for an appointment within a couple of days. I've had my hair done by Thomas Shelton since 2003 when he first arrived in town. My friend Tara found him first at Bubbles in Pentagon City. We are both brunettes who were looking for both great style and color. Along comes Thomas. After Thomas left Bubbles in PCY he went to Bubbles on Capitol Hill. Tara and I followed. After a couple years he went to VSL and again Tara and I followed. There is no question we would follow him to Salon Cielo where he is now. I have not had another stylist touch my hair in 6 years and don't plan on going anywhere else. Thomas is terrific. He takes great care to make sure he understands exactly what you want, he is EXCEPTIONAL with color and he gives you his undivided care and attention when you are in his chair. I can't say enough about him and have referred many other people who have been thrilled with his work. In addition to being great with his work, Thomas is just a fantastic guy who is wonderful to be around. When you are with him I can assure you'll have a good time ;-) He'll make you laugh, smile and feel your absolute best. Everytime I leave his care I feel like a movie star. read more

I've gone to Salon Cielo for several years, and I get great haircuts and service for the price every time I go. The high quality is consistent, whether I see Chris (the stylist I've seen most often) or someone else. I appreciate that they can usually fit you in on short notice, and they don't seem to hurry your haircut when it's busy or close to closing time. My most recent visit was in November, and they welcomed me in from the cold with tea. I didn't have to wait long at all, and the person who washed my hair was very friendly. Chris did exactly what I asked - nothing fancy, just a trim with long layers - and then styled it a little differently at my request. I got several compliments when I went out that night. My haircut was around $55, and I've gotten much more expensive cuts that are not worth the extra expense (that said, my hair is pretty straightforward so I understand if that's not the case with curlier or colored hair). The salon's decor and layout are relaxing and open, and it doesn't try to be edgy (no pulsating music, dark colors, or funky stations), which is what I prefer. My one minor issue is that some stylists try harder than others to push the products they used. Otherwise, highly recommend. read more

I have been going to Jaime at Salan Cielo for 18 years! It's hard to believe it's been that long, but over all these years, I have never once been disappointed. I have lived overseas for several of these years, and as soon as I have a chance to get back to Jaime I do, even if it means flying into DC and then heading to my next destination. I read one review about Jaime that I just couldn't imagine because not only have I gone and been happy all these years, but I've sent others to him as well, and they've become loyal followers. During one cut while overseas, the "best hair stylist" in the city asked who had previously cut my hair because it was so well done. What's so great about Jaime? He listens and he advises. Sometimes people want a cut that just isn't going to do well with their hair or their face shape. Jaime educates. He's an artist. And he makes you look feel fabulous! And if you like your hairdresser to be more than a stylist, i.e., a good listener, someone to bounce non-hair ideas off of, someone who lets you vent despite having nothing to do with your problem, someone who remembers what you told him last time and often asks about it, and someone with whom you can laugh, then you've got the right guy. After a friend's recommendation, I came to Cielo to get a cut that would hopefully fix the mess I had before. Jamie did a great job. I am very happy not only because he gave me a great cut, but also because he carefully listened to my request of keeping as much as possible the length of my previous cut. This was the WORST haircut I've ever got...ever. I'm only giving them one star because zero stars is not an option. I went just before I left for the holidays, three weeks ago, and my haircut is embarrassing. My bangs were cut unevenly and extremely short (not what I asked for at all), and my layers were not trimmed at all. I wouldn't recommend this salon to my worst enemy. I need to get a new passport, but I now have to wait at least another month until my hair looks semi-decent. Seriously, don't be fooled by the convenience and first time price discount! read more

I have thick natural red hair that is wavy, but not consistently wavy. When it's cut it "Shrinks". This person was told that. I wanted my hair to be shoulder length, it's not even at my shoulders let alone my collar none. He used a razor and now I have ends that are all over the place. One side is longer and choppy. I normally go to Lilian at Mont. mall who worked in NYC 20 years. I went back to her and she fixed it. She understands HAIR! The glaze was all ready fading within the first wash, as I don't wash my hair that often (as it's bad to wash too much). I am so upset, the only good thing is my hair grows. He knew I was upset when I left as it looked like I had a balloon hair cut. read more

I love this place! Chris is my hair stylist and he is absolutely phenomenal. He is very knowledgeable and has literally done wonders to my once drab, once super brittle dry hair. After almost seeing him for 2 years now he has literally nourished my hair back to its beautiful state. He is creative and his customer care is over the top. He always recommends great things to help my hair keep healthy and I am now working with him to transition it into new colors which is very new to me, but I can say I completely trust him with my hair. While walking to the Hair Cuttery (and reading their terrifying reviews on Yelp) I passed Salon Cielo and saw their sign in the window that said they offered $37 walk-in cuts for new clients. I decided against the Hair Cuttery, walked in, and I'm glad I did! Elyse was wonderful, she gave me great advice on how to cut my hair to better manage the humidity. She didn't cut too much off, but my hair felt lighter and healthier immediately. She even convinced me to get face framing highlights (something I'd thought about for a while but never had the guts to do). They are very subtle, and she gave me a great deal. Not sure what their regular prices are, but Elyse gave me a 10% off coupon for my next visit. Highly recommended! Great products too. read more

For a really good 'cut n' color' make an appointment with Hanane. She has been my hairdresser since I was 18 years years old. I don't go to or trust anyone else. Hanane is able to give you a cut that fits your personality and lifestyle. I have tons of really coarse, extremely thick blonde hair that is pretty hard to style, but I walk away amazed that Hanane can give me a cut that tames my hair! Plus, I need my hair short enough that it frames my face, but long enough to put in a pony-tail for when I work out. Hanane listens and delivers. I am always very happy with my cut and I am pretty hard to please when it comes to my hair! The only thing about the salon, however, is that there is one girl who answers the phones that mis-books your appointments. A friend and I both go here and we both have had situations where we went in for appointments knowing we booked them for a certain day at a certain time, only to be told that we were there on the wrong day. My poor stylist had thought we just didn't show up for the appointment. So now I just call two days before to confirm my appointment, a small price to pay for an awesome cut! The atmosphere of Salon Cielo is also very relaxing. I usually make a day out of going to get a hair cut and then browsing the shops around Dupont followed by lunch! read more

I'm a relatively new customer to this Salon Cielo. I followed Elsy there when she left her previous salon on Capitol Hill, where I had seen her for what must be close to 10 years. As you might imagine, I can recommend her. The other stylists and staff seem like very nice folks, too, from the little I have interacted with them. Pascal wasn't really listening to me and what I knew my hair does and did a chop job. The next hairdresser I went to to fix it asked "what happened". Granted, I should have complained at the salon and asked someone else to fix it if she couldn't but I was a bit shocked. Perhaps being asked to pay 70$ for a haircut before she even got started made me think I was going to get a half decent haircut...and I don't have complicated hair. If you do go, I suggest you keep your glasses on and not be shy about about calling the hairdresser out if needed. read more

i had heard about people being overcharged for cuts here. but i just came in for an aveda product. i figured.. ok no hassle no attitude. when i brought it to the counter i was charged more for the product than was listed. when i asked why it was more than listed on the counter the young woman who was ringing me up said "you must have read it wrong." i went over and pointed out that the price she rang it up as was incorrect she just said shrugged and said "oh" and started helping someone else and didn't do anything more. great attitude. i didnt want to make a big deal about it but its just seems to be another example of the overcharge problem there. Had a really bad experience here. I told the woman (hannah?) that I was getting married and I wanted only a trim (told her twice actually) . And she cut a lot!! Half way through the haircut, before i realized what was going on, she saw my ring and said, Oh you are getting married! I said that was why I didn't want a lot cut, but from her expression she clearly had not listened to me at all. She kept saying It's going to be fine, you hair will be long for the wedding, don't worry, and even hinted that she wanted to do my hair for my wedding. It was not fine, it was awful for six months before the wedding. Luckily I found someone great in Alexandria to do it for the wedding who actually listened to me (and who was cheaper!!!) read more

The worst haircut experience of my life. After losing my appointment and being quite rude about it, I was pawned off on a stylist who was obviously new (didn't know where the coat room was). I clearly explained and described the cut that I was looking for-- a longer blunt, bob that hit just above my shoulders-- she pointed out the length and began cutting. Two hours later, my hair had been cut just below my ears and was all the same length-- obviously not a bob. I am not one to freak out over haircuts, or to even post reviews on websites, but I thought I should after this experience. I have had some good cuts and a good color correction with hilights, after I tried to color my hair myself. HOWEVER, I have tried more than one stylist here and have received one really awful coloring; another time, I got a haircut that was way too short, after I explicity asked that it be kept long and my hair was healthy. The hilights are nothing to write home about, standard for the area. But of the good cuts I've had there, the cut keeps its shape well for a really long time. The style was unremarkable--typical blow out with roundbrush, plain--def. not worth the price. Also, I always feel rushed, like they are just squeezing me in between clients. But, they do a fantastic eyebrow waxing. Bottom line: good luck! read more

I've been going to Salon Cielo at the Dupont location for over two years (since I moved to the area) and have had great experiences. I was picky when choosing a new salon in a new city and had passed by it several times and decided to look it up and give it a try. I've been to Lily and Chaz and they've been great. The shop is small and they expect you to tip both shampooers and stylists on top of the regular fee which can be pricey, but I feel like it's worth it b/c I haven't ever had a negative experience there. read more

The hairstylist Vasti may be ok at haircuts but updos are definitely not her thing and I wish I had known this prior to coming in for my appt last week. As soon as she finished the updo, I asked her if she could fix all of it and showed my deep disappointment with the mess she had created. She tried to convince me it wasn't so bad, but she too knew she had created a terrible updo and had no idea what she was doing. Then, seeing as how she wasn't going to be receiving a tip, she decided to charge me $95 for this updo. I tried to contact the manager, Chris Houser, on three separate occasions following my appt but he never returned my calls. Please spare yourself the stress and listen to fellow reviewers. I have been going to Salon Cielo for years. I usually wake up, decide I need a hair cut, then call. Somehow, they manage to fit me in that day or the next day. Vasti is my stylist. She is always on time and has consistantly given me great cuts. People, (men, women and other stylists) comment on my hair cut. My natural color is gray to white. Vasti has helped me to enhance the color instead of trying to convince me to change it. Other women have commented they will try to wear their natural color after seeing my hair. I am delighted and will continue to go to Salon Cielo as long as Vasti is there. read more

I decided to try Salon Cielo after reading good reviews- big mistake. I wound up with bad color and an even worse cut, both of which were the exact opposite of what I asked for. I had a terrible time communicating with my stylist, who either wasn't listening or just didn't care. He basically stopped cutting after trimming the back. Ok, so I too have gone to Cielo in Dupont. What a disaster! Too small of a space & too crowded. One star for Dupont. I was in Bethesda & passed a new Cielo that opened this summer. It's not easy finding a salon you love! I go to Christopher here and found him through a friend on Instagram. He basically saved my dull, frizzy hair and told me how to keep it looking shiny for longer! This is definitely the most I've ever spent on my hair (Never used to dye it) but I can't help coming back because I always get the most beautiful shiny hair! By following his advice on product I feel like I have had mostly good hair days since starting coming here about 6 months ago! read more

I really love this salon. I always see Pascale- who is brilliant. She is just the right combination of creative and responsive to what I'm asking for. I was in Peace Corps, lived in Africa, and really low maintenance- but now that I've started working in DC wanted a slightly more professional look that wasn't going to take me two hours each morning. She really listens to what I want, but what she does is always stylish and pretty and I can go to work feeling like I look good. She is also really good at recommending products without being pushy- good advice, but she doesn't take it personally if you say no, and is often willing to suggest a less expensive alternative. Several posts say that this salon is pricey, but I think for the quality it is a relatively good deal. I never feel rushed, and am very happy to pay the prices they charge for the good quality and friendly service. read more

i'm confused why this place has such high reviews... it's pricey and un-professional. my sister and i went for a cut/conditioning treatment combo. the cuts were average - not great, but not bad either. the service, though, was terrible for a salon charging these prices. the greeter was sulky, the stylist next to us argued with her customer for over half an hour, my stylist wouldn't straighten my hair without an extra charge, and at the end we were overcharged by $30! definitely not a top choice. read more

I walked by this salon and thought it would be more convenient than the place I originally selected- which was a 20 minute walk away. I was staying at the Hilton and figured it would be convenient. They charged me an outrageous $50 and it sucked. It looked like I did it myself. I even had the guy redo certain areas because it was frizzy and puffy. I am furious. I've been here a few times to two different stylists. The stylists do decent cuts and are responsive to critiques. The first time I went, the stylist asked me what I wanted and gave some suggestions after a full consultation. The next time, I didn't get a consultation and the stylist pretty much did what she wanted. I have always ended up with a good cut (they won't let you leave until you're happy), but I'd be more inclined to go back to the first stylist. read more

I stopped by Cielo for a haircut on a Wednesday night. Since I was a new customer, I was eligible for the $37 one-time special. I thought it would be a one-time treat, since I am not accustomed to spending $60+ for a haircut, but Christopher turned out to be the only person I've found in 10 years of having very short, very thin, very straight hair who can cut it and make it look fantastic. He spent a lot of time to get it just right, and it looked great. (Normally I get it cut every eight weeks, and the first week after the cut, you can see my scalp). Yes, it's expensive, but since my hair is so hard to cut, I think it's worth it now that I found the right person to do the job. Go to Christopher and you won't be disappointed! read more

Her name is Carol and she was referred to me by my coo worker that has been going to her for years. I went from having long hair to a pixie cut and I can't be more happy. She did a good job, although I really wasn't asking for a lot. There was no product push and I didn't feel like I was being rushed in and out. Pascale at Salon Cielo is a color genius, I had been coming here for haircut/ blow dry for awhile. Today I arrived for a haircut and at our après cut consult, Pascale stated that she had been thinking about my color and had a suggestion! Well I was a little hesitant at first because I was mostly a color virgin (occasional henna) but I had started to notice my hair turning dull and needing some pizazz. Pascale presented her ides (I was impressed that she had been brewing ideas for me to look my best) and even thought I was hesitant, she was able to patiently communicate to me what outcome I should expect. Well, her intuition paid off! I was hugely pleased! The color absolutely shimmers & shines and to top it off, looks totally natural. I was so pleased I was moved to write.
