She is a master at the art of hair cutting and Jaylen was phenomenal with styling and really understanding my hair's unique needs. The salon's energy is truly set by Diane as an owner, and I couldn't be more grateful to have had my first curly cut in close to a year with her. All the staff was so warm and lovely, and I have never had such an easy going experience in a salon like this. There isn't enough time, nor space to describe the horrific experience I had when I went to Cole Steven's Capitol Hill location. But little did I know the call I just finished with one of their staff, ( I hope he was management trainee and not an actual manager) made my initial experience almost palatable.. I don't have one complaint about doing my small part in making some of the very best in the bussiness like Liz Nolan, The Ashby Brothers and Shelton's (first when he was Adams Morgan and then when they moved to Connecticut Avenue) extremely successful. Providing my history as a client of the aforementioned salon owners as evidence/ or how you say..receipts regarding my acquaintance with both stellar services and client relations. But never have I had a professional in the business talk to me like I was stupid. Even in the trash talking sessions that seperated the girls from the women; where shade was thrown like confetti; because it was always a party!! While I've been stung by the wit and awesome comedic talent of stylists and customers in the salon my fair share of times, this was the first time someone in the salon business was more concerned with being right; then making money. I (calmly at first,) tried to get him to confirm whether or not their offer to make amends for the deplorable service I received in April; was still valid. ( On my first; and what surely will be my last patronage, when I was having conversations with a manager about the sub par services I'd received; my hair looked so bad that when my eyes met with stylists and customers alike- everybody looked down to the floor and had that " I'm praying for you" look that Black Women give when they see you looking so tore up; it can only be made right in the hands of the Lord On June 10th I felt ready to address what had happened and what had been promised after receiving services from ColevStevens for the first time. The gist of it was , " does your offer still stand to make amends for the service I received on April 4 2025l" I'll stop right here because I might want to write a script or something on what ensued next. This conversation was one of the most inane AND disrespectful conversation I've ever had with an salon owner or any of their managers. When I asked direct questions; he was evasive: slippery than a slug. Then he went on to making assumptions that were never stated by me in my email or any conversations I had at the time of my receiving sub par services in April. His fervent need to be right overrode any semblance of professionalism. I'm glad I forgot his name; but I'm sure whoever he had communication with about appropriate next steps will know who was given the assignment to close the loop And I'm directing this tirade to the owners attention.. I believe I did due diligence before airing your dirty laundry. But your staff just had a meltdown on the phone with me; as the object of his tirade. Get him a therapist, a date, a candy bar or something. But until whatever it is kicks in...get him off of your frontline of customer relations; at least when you have to do the unpleasant business of cleaning up your mess, with grown folk. read more

I had a wonderful first experience with this company! I called on Sunday and was able to get an appointment right away. I have naturally course 4type hair texture and I typically take take of my own hair. I have not used heat in my hair in 2 years and I was ready to try a deep conditioning treatment, cut and blow dry but I am ver particular about people in my hair. It's been a week and my hair still looks GREAT! The receptionist was very helpful and knowledgeable over the phone and I felt like she was able to stir me in the right direction. I was very satisfied with Cole Stevens' services for my wedding. I had a very specific goal in mind for my big day, and Koren was able to execute it. I have natural hair, so making sure that my hair looked nice for my outdoor wedding and reception was very important. The process was easy, and Koren made me feel at ease starting with the initial consultation until the final touches on the day of. With her help, I picked a style that worked for me and remained intact for the entire day. Even the next day when I took it down, my hair looked great! She even made a special trip to my location to add some finishing touches and fit my veil. This is the first time I've ever gotten a trim with my natural hair in its NATURAL state!! This salon is the epitome of Black excellence, professionalism, class, and grace. Miss Diane was so warm and knowledgable!! I enjoyed every second of this experience. They really take the time to understand your hair needs and what you're looking for. I received a curly cut and my curls look good in three different variations: afro, wet w/ product, and dry w/ product. I didn't get a picture of the afro unfortunately but the shape I received just worked for every style. Also, when I left and stretched it out after the shrinkage, my shape was as gorgeous as ever. I went to a party later that night, and my curls are still gorgeous. I'm shook. I was LONG overdue for a haircut and decided to do a complete chop. I looked over previous yelp reviews and decided Precious was the stylist for me. I arrived a bit early for my appointment and was immediately greeted and offered some refreshments. The employees there really do take care of their clients. Everyone I came in to contact there from the front desk, the young man offering refreshments, and the ladies who did my wash and rinse were incredibly friendly and attentive. I spoke with Precious what my idea for my style was. She immediately sensed my nervousness since this was my first big chop and made it a point to keep me well informed of what she was doing or planning to do every step of the way. She eased my nerves and did an amazing job with my pixie cut and style. I kept it longer on the top and she gave me tips on how to style it straight and curly since we discussed earlier that I never usually wear my hair straight but am looking to start. Honestly it was so weird seeing my hair so short at first but I haven't stopped receiving compliments since I left the salon. I loved my experience. Yes, the wait was pretty long( my appointment was at 1:30 and I didn't leave until 5pm but it was a Saturday and the place was thumpin so I expected as much) however they made it a point to check on me whenever they could and let me know my expected wait time. Wow wow wow. I had to leave a review for the excellent natural haircare I received at Cole Stevens salon two weeks ago. I had been wanting a haircut for awhile and searched for several salons in the area that specialize in cutting curly hair. I was torn between Cole Stevens and Fiddleheads but decided on Cole Stevens because I saw it as a more luxury treatment and wanted to pamper my hair. I had heard good things from friends and colleagues, so despite the slightly higher price ($130 vs. Fiddleheads $100) I decided to book an appointment. I was given a choice of who would cut my hair and I decided to schedule an appointment for a consultation and curly cut with Aliya. I walked in for my appointment, expecting to only receive a cut and be on my way, but I was told the cut also comes with a complimentary wash, deep condition and light styling. My hair was given the luxury treatment with the caviar deep condition and steamer. Finally, before the cut, Aliya used some excellent products to give me the best wash and go I've ever had. She walked me through every step she was taking and gave me tons of helpful information about how to take care of my curls. My curls were popping!!! I NEVER do wash and go's but I was instantly made a believer because of the great care she took of my hair. I will give a 5 star rating because my hair truly feels so soft and tangle free even two weeks later and I am beyond happy with the care she took with my hair. The only negative feedback unfortunately was the cut was not quite what I'd hoped. I came in specifically to get my hair shaped and cut significantly, but I walked out with a very similar haircut to when I came in. I definitely wish she had been a bit more aggressive with trying to give me the shape I wanted. I know many naturals don't want much hair cut off but I was ready for a change. It totally sucks to have to write this review because everyone is so nice including the owner but unfortunately this will be my last time visiting here :(. All of the stylists are not created equal when it comes to hair care and proper detangling. The stylist attempted to detangle ALL of my hair at once, not in sections, from the root down! I have thick curly hair and I was in pain! She was literally pulling from my scalp. After speaking with a few other stylists here, apparently this is a trend with this particular stylist and this wasn't her first run. They actually told me I should have stopped her. When I told her I was in pain it's as if she wasn't understanding. The owner was there but was getting her hair washed but I'm sure she heard the whole ordeal. Another stylist had to tell the owner what was going on and this same stylist who was very sweet ended up doing my blow dry and style. I am shocked that the owner allows this being she is big on hair care. I won't be returning. It was a nightmare and my scalp still hurts. read more

Great first visit! Easy commute from my office. Warm, friendly reception. Taken upstairs right away. Didn't really even have a chance to get my jacket off. And wouldn't you know it - I got a chance to chat with Diane the owner the moment I walked in. She's so fun! I booked on a co-worker's recommendation and arrived unhappy with the state of my hair. So I braced for the "your hair is damaged - you messed it up" speech. To my surprise, Diane and my stylist FiFi COMPLEMENTED my hair, and listened attentively. My stylist didn't just ask what I wanted today. She wanted to know my long-term goals for my hair. We talked a lot about that, and hair health and maintenance. I really appreciated that. I usually wait a LONG time to get to know a stylist before letting them color or cut my hair, even just a trim. I'm super conservative and explained that upfront. FiFi listened. So, against my better judgment, I let FiFi color and trim (Kyra actually apply the color that FiFi mixed.). I'm glad I did. My hair looks and feels GREAT! They did roots only, and that's just what I needed. Other places have insisted I needed more, charged twice as much, and took twice as long. Hydration treatment actually felt good during application. Kyra did that too. I was impressed that she was not only really comfortable to talk to, but also seemed very interested in her craft and knowledgeable about the Cole Stevens philosophy of hair care. Clearly not just a "shampoo girl." I complimented how gentle she was with my hair. You know what I mean - some people seem to want to remove your scalp to get your hair clean. She explained their philosophy about that as well, using a technique that's comfortable for the average person. Atmosphere was great. I was offered water, tea and snacks multiple times. Even the other clients were fun to talk to. It's an upscale salon, but not so stuffy that the ladies couldn't chat and laugh a bit during our visit. And the best part of all - turns out it was actually less expensive than the last two times I got color at salons not nearly as nice as Cole Stevens. Don't get me wrong - it's not CHEAP. But you get what you pay for. And I feel I got good value for my money. Do your homework as I did and realize add-ons to make your hair healthier are going to cost a little more. FiFi is awesome! Super nice. She did a good trim - not too much. And she styled my hair EXACTLY like I wanted. I hate that feeling when you go to someone new and try to describe what you want. You leave with your hair feeling great but you have to go home and touch up the style to make it your own. That didn't happen here. I explained my hair issues, irregularities in trouble spots and she got it and styled around them. I left with beautiful, flowing, healthy hair. I was there just shy of three hours, which surprised me because never was I left sitting and waiting for a long period of time. Of course color takes a little longer. Chatting with the ladies... Love this salon! Koren always does an amazing job with my hair. She even did my wedding hair and nailed the style I wanted. She's also been taking great care of my hair as I'm going through my transition to natural hair. I'm very happy to have found her as my go to stylist. The salon itself is great. Made a somewhat last minute appointment with Bianca for flexi rod set. She warmly greeted me, asked a few questions about my hair, back to the bowl for wash and conditioning. Who doesn't love a good washing, I almost feel asleep :) Under the dryer for about 45min to an hour. My set was perfect, hair super soft and she only used a tiny bit of oil to separate my curls (which I love, because some stylist get really heavy handed). My appointment was at 3, I was out by 5! First Color: 5 stars First Cut/Trim: 5 stars Second Trim: 2 stars Customer Service: 5 stars tl:dr: You know that nightmare where you dream that your hair has been cut off in some sort of terrible way and there's nothing you can do about it? Well, I'm living it. I usually wait about two/three visits before I write a review about a place, just to make sure that it's consistent in what they do. If I were to base my review off of the first two times I've been here, it would've been fives all around. Now, I'm not so sure. There has only been three times out of my life that have I ever felt like I've made a bad hair decision (out of all the hair chops and dyes I've received). Once was when a woman cut off 4 inches of hair when I didn't instruct her to do so. Another time, a woman put a relaxer on my hair when I was already 6 months into transitioning into being natural. The last time was the cut/trim I recently received here. A few months ago, I wanted to change my hair color, seeing how I like to do so around every season or so. I decided to go with Khadijah, seeing how she's a color specialist. She was everything I hoped for and more. I absolutely loved my color, and I'm still getting compliments to this day. While I was there, she told me that since I mostly wear my hair in it's natural, curly form, maybe I should try getting the DevaCurl Cut. I agreed, and came back in about 3 weeks to get that done. My cut was also AMAZING, and I didn't really lose any length (yes, I know, now that's the real praise report right there). Khadijah was WONDERFUL. I received SO MANY compliments from the cut and color. I was in love. Fast forward 3 months and I needed a trim. I didn't want a cut, just a trim. I tried to make an appointment with Khadijah, but she was booked, and I knew I couldn't wait too much longer or my trim might have to turn into a cut. So, I went ahead and booked with another woman who was on her same level, thinking that I was going to receive the same type of treatment. The stylist was super nice, I really liked her. She seems knowledgeable of hair, and she made me feel at ease ( which is something I never feel when someone's about to cut my hair). I told her that I ONLY wanted a trim this time, seeing how I'm trying to grow out my hair. It seemed to go as planned, and I thought that I did a good thing by coming in and getting a trim from someone who knew hair. After the trim, I went downstairs to pay for it, and then I was told by the receptionist that they don't do trims, I'd be charged for a cut, and that my total was going to be $150. Now, understand that I don't mind spending a lot on my hair. I want good work, and I know that can be pricey. However, to me, I think $150 for a wash and trim was excessive (I'm originally from Texas, so maybe I've just haven't shaken off the sticker shock that happens in DC, lol). BUT, since my trim was done by a professional, I figured hey, at least it was done right, and I don't have to worry about anything being wrong with it. Of course when you get a cut while curly, you will experience having it a little shorter than you expected, seeing that they're cutting it while curly. However, I didn't think I'd have my hair be uneven. Yep, you read that right. So, on top of me paying $150 dollars for a trim, I now dislike my hair to the point that I don't even want to wear it in it's full glory, I've just worn headbands for the past 3 days to hide the choppiness. The whole reason why I even started to get my hair cut in the curly way was so that I could have pride in wearing my hair as is. Now, not only do I have a horrible cut, I don't know how I'm even going to wear my hair now, seeing how it looks like some sort of mushroom mullet. In addition, seeing how my hair grows a little slower than normal, it's going to take at least 3 months to even get it back to something that I can work with. Then, to add insult to injury, I'm in a wedding in a week and a half, and now I have to find a style that can hide uneven hair. I think part of the reason that this happened was that I didn't know the best way to cut my hair, seeing how I am a newbie at the DevaCurl thing. However, that's why we do go to hair salons and spend money on our hair, is because even though WE might think we know what's best for our hair, we ultimately depend on our stylist to make the best decisions for us. Especially when I'm paying $150 for a trim. Overall, I will return to Cole Stevens, if only for the glorious hair colors that Khadijah does (seriously, she's worth every penny). read more

Since then, not only did I have a chance to obtain initial services from the salon, I've become a regular! Their customer service is on point. The shop is always clean, light refreshments are always offered, along with a complimentary coat check. The stylists are all, extremely professional and they work hard to customize hair treatments and styles, specifically for you! FiFi gave me the most beautiful balayage color a few months ago and Precious helps me to keep my natural hair maintained from month to month. When she straightens my hair, it lasts for 3 weeks (I've admittedly gone 4 weeks lol), during the winter months (without me having to flat iron it at all from home). Diane, the owner of the Cole-Stevens salon, is a genius with hair texture. I met her at an event where we were both panelists, and she didn't hesitate to tell me immediately and diplomatically, that my haircut was uneven. She also swore that she could figure out how to make my unruly hair behave again, and she did. Diane took the time to talk to me for awhile about what bothered me about my hair, that I don't like it curly even if everyone else does, and that I had no time to blow dry and style my hair every day. Diane has now given me 2 Keratin treatments, the second time tweaking it based on my feedback after the first one. The result is the hair I always wished I could have. I finally gave up my allegiance to my old hair dresser and let her give me a full haircut a few months ago. It has been years since I've been able to go this long in between haircuts. Anyone that knows me knows I believe in second chances and that I am willing to pay top dollar for quality. Quality is what I believed I would find upon seeking out Cole Stevens Salon. Unfortunately, I paid $125 for hair coloring that did not represent what I requested event after a second chance to get it right. Time and money was wasted at Cole Stevens. I have never had a stylist tell me how I want my hair or color especially if I am paying. Respectfully, when a client says they want red violet, they show you a picture and the are patient even after you the stylist does not do what they ask/plead. Missing the mark is an understatement. Prior to getting color at Cole, I had zero color or chemicals in my hair thus it was very healthy and free of damage thus a proper lift and color of my request could of occurred if it had been applied/attempted. My first visit was on 3/29/2014. I had scheduled at hair appointment with Michelle at 1pm for a full head of color, red violet aka Red Wine. When I arrived 5 minutes prior to my appointment and my hair was washed and I sat with a wet head for 55 minutes. I was asked numerously if I was there to get highlights and told that is what I needed (what? this should of been a sign). I kindly stated no, and explained that I consulted with Michele prior and wanted a full head of red violet color. I was at the salon from 1pm to 645pm and I was never finished. The coloring did not actually take place until 2:36pm. Following color I was deep conditioned and transferred upstairs and told to wait for Mimi although I did not even know who she was had never with her prior/during my stay at the salon. At 5:33pm after waiting upstairs for Mimi since 4:23pm with a shower cap on my head I went to the reception lady who seemed aloof about my situation. She told me Mimi had another client and I would be next so I waited. At 6:28pm, I still had not been seen therefore I opted to paid and leave the salon unfinished for $150 ($125 for the color which I could not see due to a wet head & $25 for deep condition). The salon was supposed to be closing 28 minutes prior so I did not see how Mimi would even get me in and out in less than 30 minutes. Now I am "Queen of Patience", because the entire time, I was polite, calm, paid but really I was hot because 5-6 hours at a salon for color, really? When I got home I took off the shower cap, twisted my hair and allowed it to air dry. In the morning my hair was nothing RED but a brownish orange color. The following day, I wrote a professional message and expressed that the service rendered was unacceptable and unprofessional especially as a new client and paying the fees that I had. The customer service received was excellent and a new appointment was booked (good job AJ & Nicole!). The second visit was on 4/2/2014. I arrived 10 minutes prior to my appointment and Michele apologized for Friday and explained things were crazy on Friday. She opted to fix the color free of charge but did not listen to what I wanted stating it would not look right. Since when do you tell a client what they want when they pay you and provided a visual of what they want? Brick Red is not Burgundy Red. A full head of color is a full head of color. I never asked for highlights but now I understand that they were insisted because they are listed as a higher price. It took all I had to leave with my desires unmet, money lost and time wasted. Jackie did provide good natural hair advice, thanks love. But everything else, total epic fail. You know, this is so sad and my first ever poor review. I loathe to say anything negative about a business (especially an African American business) as I strive to look for strengths but this was just SO HARD. I went to the mall in Pentagon City and while there was referred to a Thai lady totally fixed me. I was humbled and shocked that an Asian woman knew my hair and did a much better job. She did so well I tipped her $15 on top of the correction color service she provided. You know those commercials where a woman with perfect hair, that blows in the wind and it falls right back into place, just before she steps into a really nice car? Well, that's how I found Cole Stevens Capitol Hill location. I stopped the lady, with the perfect hair and asked her where she had just come from, she pointed to the entrance of the salon. I couldn't get up the steps fast enough, I scheduled my first appointment with Fabienne right then. When I arrived for my appointment, I had a little bit of a wait but I was greeted by all of the staff and kept busy with current magazines. The salon is clean, the staff is cheerful and the products are well stocked. After my consultation I was escorted to the shampoo room by the salon assistant, who was up on her product knowledge. I can't just let you wash my hair, I need to know what you are putting on my hair and why. At no point did she, ummm-uhhh or anything else. A second assistant came through while my hydration treatment was processing, he brought freshly made iced tea and snack mix for me to enjoy while my hair processed. When I returned to Fabienne's chair she dove right in and presented me with my options, cut it short or cut it way short. I opted for way short, with more length on the top. I left with a cute edgy style that has kept it's shape. It has been two months and I am scheduled for my second appointment this Thursday. So similar to the first reviewer on here I found Cole Stevens because of a young lady walking down the street with the cutest twist out ever. I asked how she did her hair assuming that like most African American naturals she was a DIYer. She told me Cole Stevens and that she had went to the salon on Pennsylvania Ave. About a month later I finally made my appointment. (Sept. 21) For background I have highly textured afro hair that I wear naturally. For curly girls who are into types I'm probably a 3c/4a only because my hair does make spirals when wet. When it's dry it acts a fool. I big chopped about 3 years ago and have been trying to grow it out. Unfortunately for the last year I've been experiencing incredible dryness and frizz. This I have attributed to a double color process and also to protein sensitivity. After chopping a lot of the color off myself - haphazardly I would add I was desperately in need of a proper trim. The best trim I've ever gotten was at Miss Jessie's in NY but they are about $500 minimum and you have to get to NY. I was desperate to avoid that trip - so I tried Fiddleheads DevaCut before trying Cole Stevens. Fiddleheads wasn't awful but it didn't do the trick. I made an appointment at Cole Stevens - I wasn't able to go to the DC salon because they were booked up so I went to the Greenbelt one. I drove and it was a really quick ride just by getting on the BW parkway. The salon has two spaces in a suburban office park. The left door leads to the main salon w/ receptionist and the right door to a downstairs salon that has a few bowls and dryers. There were 2 hair dressers down there. My hair-dresser was Brenda a younger looking Latina with very long thick hair. I asked to get a twist out with a trim since I heard natural hair was their thing. Brenda washed my hair and conditioned and then did a moisturizing treatment - which is basically sitting under a steamer which is very good for moisturizing dry natural hair. She then blew the hair out in order to trim it. FYI I've had it done both ways - both blown out and natural and it has always turned out better for me when it's blown out. Some people don't like to use heat but honestly I hardly ever use heat at home so I'm ok with it every 4-5 months in order to get a good trim. She gave the hair a really nice trim - was sure to ask me how much I wanted to take off and I asked her to not take off so much because I was trying to grow. She then re-wet the hair with a spray bottled and did beautiful flat twists with Design Essentials foam. After she was done twisting she took me upstairs which I thought was to put me under the dryer - but she proceeded to check me out so I guess that meant I should just go home and air dry. I wasn't aware of this but actually was fine with it - since I didn't want more heat. I went home and took the twists out two days later and they came out really nice - I wore the style for a whole week until I went on vacation. I paid about $115 which was much easier to swallow than $500 and a trip on the bolt bus. It's been two weeks since my appointment and I must say styling my own hair that it's super soft has nice shape and it's looking better than it has in a year and it's holding moisture a lot better. Cole Stevens isn't uber fancy but it gets the job done and they know how to handle natural hair - they aren't perfect but they are pretty close to it as far as black hair salons. Even the clients that wore their hair straight were encouraged by another stylist to stop perming their hair because it wasn't necessary. I've been doing extensive research on hair salons that are TRULY & SINCERELY concerned about hair health & maintenance. My teen daughter is natural , however, has trouble maintaining her hair on her own. We've tried many other salons that claim to be "professionalized" in natural hair, however the outcomes were negative. Let's just say, her hair has been damaged, fried & burned by the "Dominican" hair salons, as well as, (I won't name drop) a popular known salon on 9th Street NW (off of U). So with all the negative experiences, you can imagine my daughter became discouraged & frustrated not only with trying new salons, but with her natural hair. While doing my research, I happen to run across a review of Cole Stevens Salon on Yelp, which lead me to read ALL Cole Stevens reviews on Yelp. Every review had nothing but positive feedback, so I decided to visit the salon personally before actually making the appt. Upon entering the salon, we were greeted by Hair professional/stylist - Martin, who was in creation mode (tending to his client's hair.) No receptionist was sitting at the reception desk when I entered. Martin was warm & welcoming, & introduced me to Jackie (who I requested to make an appt based on the great reviews she received.) Jackie gave consultation of my daughter's hair & we made the appt right away. Appt day arrived! My daughter received a wash, hydration treatment, trim & blow out. Let me say, her hair looked FABULOUS & FLAWLESS!!! Jackie's professionalism, knowledge of natural hair, sincere concern for her hair's health & maintenance, along with her talented skills, gave my daughter hope & confidence with continuing to wear her hair natural. Thank you, Jackie. I also must say, I happen to see the finished results of Martin's client & another stylist ( I didn't catch her name but she was a funky (in a good fashionable/stylish way) and MY GOODNESS, both woman look fantastic!!! Clearly the best kept secret in DC! Where do I begin? I'll start at the top. The owner and chief expert stylist (Diane) "KNOWS" unequivocally knows hair care, and under her leadership some of the most skilled and knowledgeable stylists and colorists in DC have the opportunity to flourish! Cole Stevens has cracked the code to healthy hair! I posted a review almost two years ago when I first went from wearing an afro for over 30 years, to blow out and style, and ended up in Martin's chair. Over that time my hair has done some pretty funky things as I moved through some issues from not knowing what I was doing and damaging my hair at home, to hair loss from stressors and other environmental factors. Each time Martin (senior and very talented stylist) nursed my hair back to an even healthier condition. Cole Stevens specializes in "natural" hair (i.e. no harsh chemicals) and encourage clients to do what's best for their hair individually. They have loyal clients and I don't think anyone who has ever been there could say they've been any place else where the professionals were more skilled or knowledgeable about hair care. Some people say it's pricey but I think you get what you pay for. If Cole Stevens isn't in your day-to-day budget, consider going there for that special occasion when it is imperative that you impress from head to toe! The entire staff is friendly and courteous, and the environment is just comfortable no matter your walk of life. Everyone walks out of Cole Stevens looking absolutely fabulous!! So I've been going to Cole Stevens for over a year now, and while it's a bit pricey for my college student tastes, it's well worth every penny. I see a senior/creative stylist which is basically as close to Diane as I can afford lol, and I've never been disappointed. I've also never had to wait like you normally do in salons. The MOST IMPORTANT value about this salon, is that they aren't out for your money, they care about your hair. Period. And so after a long search for a salon that does natural hair, but can give me a weave if I want to switch it up, or even if I revert back to the creamy crack, or dye it blue, or cut it all off again, or dread it - they can do it! No matter what, THEY CAN DO IT! I've seen it with my own eyes. If you are reading this because you're looking for a salon to care about your tress, in ANY form, please check them out. I was in your position at one time, searching for someone who could tame my mess and help it flourish, Cole Stevens did. They have a stylist for every individual, even men. What can I say about this salon... It is wonderful. Let me start by saying that I am a type 4 natural hair girlie. I have been natural for 4 years and had never flat ironed my hair. For some reason I had the urge to straightened it and I decided to go with Cole Stevens Salon and I am glad I did. From the time I called the salon to book my appointment up until I sat in the chair, the service was amazing. I personally saw Diane, the owner, she is incredible and was very patient with me. I explained how nervous I was with flat ironing my hair for the 1st time and she was so patient and understanding. In fact everyone was patient, starting with the shampoo person. My hair was AMAZING. I intentionally waited to write this until after I washed my hair... And let me say no heat damage. Yayyy It is expensive but hey you get what you pay for. I've been coming to Cole Stevens now for over a year and my hair can tell the difference. After I did the 'big chop' 3 yrs ago, I let my hair grow natural for one year. I then went to Miss Jessie's salon in NYC for a 'silkener' treatment, which ended up just being a texturizer. I was so disappointed. But per the recommendation of.a friend, I tried Cole Stevens salon, first in Greenbelt. Shamika J started me on Keratin treatments, as a better (and healthier) option to tame by natural hair without subjecting it to harsh chemicals. For the past several months, I've been going to the Pennsylvania Avenue location, where Diane has been masterfully treating and cutting my hair. Michelle has done color & highlights on me and its Compliment City. The services ARE pricey, however, coming here is a great example of "you get what you pay for". Your hair is in the hands of experts. These ladies are not only some of the most sought after stylists in the city, they are preeminent in the industry.
