I'll admit when i went to the salon a month ago with a haircut in mind it was another one of my impulsive decisions and i was a little nervous seeing a stylist whose work id never seen before. Especially since i have a natural curly textures and not every stylist knows how to work with all textures. But thankfully it more than worked out! I saw Abby and she was amazing. She took time to consult with me and get an idea of exactly what i wanted. She made sure to take into account my hair texture and provide me with a style that would look good curly or straight. I would not recommend this place. They charged me $97 to cut my daughter's hair in a straight line. It took less than 2 minutes to do her haircut. They took off only 2 inches when I asked them to take off 5. And they wouldn't let me stand next to her while they did the haircut so I couldn't tell them I wanted more inches off at the time. There were multiple open seats and the only 3 hairdressers working all sat clustered next to each other, and the one next to ours told me I was "in her way" even though she didn't have a client! read more

I showed up for my appointment that I made a month in advance only to be told that there was no appointment in their system. They told me they could reschedule for 7 am on Saturday only to call me an hour later and tell me that 7 am was no longer available and that the woman I wanted to see could only do 8 am. When I received the confirmation, they booked me with a completely different person for 8 am despite telling me I could see the woman I wanted on the phone. Frankie is the best!! I have really thick, corse, curly hair and he does not hesitate or bat an eye. He greets me right at the door, makes me relaxed and comfortable, and we talk about all the things while he works his magic. I had just ran out of my shampoo and since this salon thankfully closed at 6pm on Sundays, I quickly drove over to pick up a bottle (I only live 8 mins away) -- but was surprised to see a blue-haired girl locking the front door at 5:35pm. So I walked up and this is the conversation that ensued: Me: "Hey there! Do you guys close at 6pm?" Girl: "Yes we do" Me: "But it's only 5:35pm...?" Girl: "Yea, but all the stylists are gone." Me: "I just need to buy shampoo, though -- is it possible for me to purchase a bottle real quick..?" Girl: "No" I've since learned that the girl's name is Lauren. She offered ZERO apologies for closing up shop early -- for an unjustifiable reason, at that. Thank goodness I don't go here for any services -- I sincerely hope that the stylists and other associates have MUCH better customer service and work ethic than her. read more

tried but no. I have been getting my haircut here for a while, but it never really comes out the way I ask. Even though I bring pictures of me with the haircut I want from my previous hairstylist. I keep coming back because the stylist is so nice but I recently came in for a blow dry for a wedding and the whole thing lasted 20 minutes. No conditioner when they washed my hair, and blew it out with no style and not as I asked. I have gone to Salon Capri in Newton for years. The quality of the haircuts has been good but the attitude of the staff has on many occasions been appalling. I have tried to overlook their treatment of clients because I did like the way my hair looked but today was the last straw and I will never go back. Whereas none of the staff wore masks, I was double masked, including an N95. While waiting for my color to set, I took a couple of walks from my chair to the magazine stand in the front of the store. This is when a woman at the front desk called out to me that due to the rising COVID cases I should either sit in my chair or at the front but not walk back and forth. I remarked that the risk of transmission from a well-masked person is far less than an entire unmasked staff. She simply deflected, stating that there Is no mask mandate. The fact that they would respond to their elevated concern around rising COVID cases by restricting a masked client from walking across the floor instead of by putting their own masks on demonstrates the prioritization of their own comfort and lack of respect and consideration for their clientele. Salon Capri on Newbury St. is quite the opposite. They are considerate, respectful and value giving the clients a relaxing and positive experience. read more

I had a gift certificate I had to use for two blow outs before it expired so I came to this salon for the first time. (Their sister dry bar went out of business, so the blow outs transferred, which was so nice) I had Brittney for one blow out and Jillian fir the other. Both girls were incredible and so nice. They did a fabulous job on my hair and gave me just what I wanted, beautiful job ladies. Definitely super happy and two of the better blow outs I have had, especially after receiving a pretty bad blow out at their sister salon. The only reason I am giving 3 stars is because I feel the prices are a bit steep for what you get. Again I would like to reiterate the girls did an amazing job, but normally if I am going to pay over $40 for a blow out with waves I want to at least get an hour in the salon and relax and enjoy the experience. If you want curls or waves that is additional to the $40 base for the wash and dry. It is just a little out of my price range. read more

Terrible experience. Went there Friday for the first time. It seemed like an upscale salon so I booked with them because my regular stylist hasn't been able to do my hair. Anyway, I went in the get my roots touched up. I told the colorist Paul/Robert (forget his name) to do whatever you need to do to fix it. My roots had an orangey tinge to it when k went over to get the haircut. I explained to the girl that this wasn't what I wanted. The colorist came over and was just not understanding that I wanted my hair to be all one color. He said "you just wanted me to fix the roots. Your ends were never going to match your roots" I don't know any colorist that would just let their client go home looking like that. You could clearly see the line with the two different color blondes. Jillian (girl who cut my hair) foiled it to fix it. I went to the counter after and they wanted to charge me $335! They were charging me for all the services I got including his screw up. I went home the next day and washed/styled my hair and you can still see the difference in color and the back is patchy on one side. Will never go back there again. read more

I will never go here ever again. It was a waste of my time and money. The stylist kept telling me that there is nothing I could do for my curly hair besides getting a trim. I said OK that's fine since I didn't know what I wanted to do. She barely did anything, and it cost $60 bucks? It was a complete rip off. As a hairstylist, you should be able to offer new looks/ ideas to clients who don't know what they want. I know my hair is hard to style, but I should be provided with options to see what CAN be done not be told what CANT be done. Finally. I have a place where I can return. From the time you walk in, these gals are about the customer. Which is pretty atypical from the comparably priced "You're-lucky-we-took-you-and-we'll-let-you-pay-us-us" attitude of the overrated and underwhelming Newbury Street salons. Nice and friendly women. I went to Meghan and I can tell you that I am not the easiest client in terms of how I articulate what I want. But I brought a picture of a cut I had done by my favorite stylist in the whole world who is, unfortunately, in NYC. Megan listened to me, calibrated my understanding of "darker", mixed up some colors, painted 'em on, clipped me down, and VOILA! 14 years of searching for a great colorist and cutter in Boston, I have found one. I have tried so many salons in Boston since I moved from NYC 14 years ago. I have tried at least 7 different Newbury Street Salons and all I can say is "Overpriced and underwhelming" again. What a joke. I have been to "Shag", the talk of the town a few years back. Pretty decent colorist, totally banal and pedestrian cut by the owner of the salon who is more concerned with his own image than he is with his customer's. Dude, the "Studio 54" typeface on Shag's banner is no longer cool hip retro, it's outdated. Get OVER yourself. Anyway, this isn't about those other salons, this is about Salon Capri in Newton. It's a soothing, non-attitude environment, and I actually got something that I really really liked! There was a little snafu with a gift card I had, but the manager of the salon 'put the customer first' and because of that and Meghan's great job, I am writing this review to say that I will return. I even waited for her to come back when she decided to move to UK for 3 years.(I went to other people, don't ask) Candyce is a professional & has been nominated Best In Boston as well. She does full body waxes, facials & eyelash extensions, as well as makeup applications. She has been featured in Several Boston based magazines as well I had to come get my eyebrows done and the Evil Neccessaty-The BRAZILIAN wax. I have never gotten an ingrown hair when I go for a Brazillian with her, The cost is $55, which is pretty good for a Best of Boston Hair Salon. I don't care what anyone else will say she IS the BEST for eyebrows, I have a major infatuation with perfect, groomed arched eyebrows The cost for a Eyebrow Design- $25-$35 and a regular wax is $20.00. I am particular about only a few things, one of which being my haircut. I need a good haircut, and I'm willing to pay for it. Shanon has been cutting my hair for about a year now. She is phenomenal. I always just tell her to make me look good, and I'll be happy. She is consistent with what she does, which I really appreciate. And, she's a lot of fun to chat with--very personable. The place is clean, and all the other staff are friendly. The receptionists now always say hello to me by first name when I walk in... And that is one of the things that keeps me coming back--the personal touch. Guys, the cut will cost you $35 plus tip, but in my book, this is something worth the cash. read more

I've been seeing Blanid for the last two years for haircuts and overall I really like her. It took me a long time to find a stylist I like in Boston/Newton after coming from NYC and going to one of the top salons there that does a lot of editorial work (important because it means the salon takes time to train staff and does not just rent out chairs to stylists) but then I found Blanid. I don't like stylists who cut your hair like they're making 5 chops before they're done and Blanid definitely doesn't do that. She takes time and care when cutting my hair. She is very sweet and friendly and more importantly, she always "gets" what it is I want done. She does color as well though I only have her cut my hair. As of January 2009, she charges $60 for a cut which I think is reasonable for what the end result is and her level of experience. It seems that Salon Capri trains its staff on the latest techniques and encourages them to attend training workshops, which I think is very important because it keeps the salon up to date with trends and fresh. I've seen groups of more junior stylists around a senior stylist when she's working to learn techniques that are being done on a client. I've also seen Elena at Salon Capri for facials. She does a good job on my skin, particularly on extractions which I think is very important in facials. However, I think the salon charges a lot for a basic facial - $100. After each facial, she gives me recommendations as to what I should do based on my skin's current condition and she always gives me samples to try without pushing products. I don't find the staff to be particularly friendly to me overall but I'm happy with the people I see and that's more important. I also like that no one really pushes product. If only they took Amex though (Visa and MC only)! read more

While the salon itself was clean and inviting, I have to say I was disappointed with my experience. I was booked in to get my makeup done for a wedding. I feel like I could have done a better job myself. And I was told I'd be charged one price and I was charged more. I glued my own fake eyelashes on and ended up paying $75! Having been a customer for over ten years, I was surprised to encounter disrespectfully poor service recently. In a usually simple coloring procedure, Nick (the owner), who has a good reputation as a stylist, pushed my head in ways that were painful to me, When I explained I had a neck condition and asked for more gentleness in moving my head. he refused to acknowledge any problem, going so far as to claim he wasn't touching my head -- "I'm only touching your hair." That was patently false, but I thought at least he'd received my message. But no. He shortly went back to pushing my skull around. I repeated that he was hurting me, and I got nowhere. I was in no position to storm out, having meetings all day, and ended up simply gritting my teeth and hoping no injury was being caused This was only part of an awful experience. Sure, the hair looked ok at the end, and many of the stylists are both kind people and skillful artists. But I'll not risk such an experience again. read more

First let me say I love Shannon - she is great with color and she is so friendly and relaxed to converse with. I always leave her feeling like I love my hair and this last time I went in I was just as happy. The reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because of the OTHER stylists. Some seem so pretentious and this last visit I was made to get up from the sink I was at in the middle of having my color rinsed out and given a Kerastase treatment so that another stylist - Paul - could use "his" sink. I'm sorry, this is unacceptable. I am a client just like Paul's - why is my experience any less valuable? I feel bad for Shannon and her assistant Erin who had to deal with this situation and did so gracefully. I on the other hand found it obnoxious. I hope that Salon Capri continues with their successes but they hopefully will address the way some of the employees treat others. I'm writing this review after getting a haircut yesterday with Jerry. I very much appreciated the salon fitting me into their busy schedule at the last minute and was excited for my first haircut in Boston. I just moved here from Austin and was very sad to leave my stylist there. I am satisfied with my haircut (I just needed a trim and want to grow it out), but my experience with Jerry was different. I understand he has a job to do and needs to concentrate, but he was cold and often dismissive of me during the appointment. He was at times friendly and asked all the questions one asks when meeting someone for the first time, but dismissed me a couple times when I had concerns about my hair. I haven't gotten it colored in a while and asked "is my color bad?" and he responded "it's not the worst I've ever seen". I guess he was being honest, but I'd prefer him to be a little kinder or tell me he could fix it rather than make me feel bad about it. Also he said numerous times how I'm not styling my hair the right way and it's dry. I totally understand that in the winter hair can get dry and there's always new techniques for styling, but the way he delivered this advice was cold, and again made me feel kinda crappy. I tried to leave the appointment feeling upbeat, but was bummed about the experience afterwards. I really wanted to find a new salon and new stylist in Boston, but I don't think I have. I am also bummed to leave a bad review for the salon because the manager was so friendly and accommodating! read more
