When I (reluctantly) wash my hair after she blows it out (very beautifully) I just let it air dry and it looks beautiful still. . . I have been to salons on newbury street and after washing next day I am reminded of the bad haircuts I gave my Barbie dolls in the 80s. Today was my first time visiting any of the Salon Capri locations. I had a cut/color with Tatiana....I couldn't be happier with her work! She really listened to what I wanted and helped me pick out the perfect color combination for my hair. She also gave me an excellent cut/style. The cost was $165 plus a 20% tip. I had just moved to the area and was tired of treking downtown for my Newbury Street salon. I had just tried a Groupon deal in Wellesley and had gotten the worst haircut I can remember! Needless to say, I was a bit gunshy of new places. From the beginning, I was impressed with the customer-focused service at Capri and felt like the staff genuinely cared about my experience. I was booked with Tatiana, who thoroughly impressed me with her time, analysis, and meticulous work. I even took my 3 yr-old son to her the next week! I called last minute this morning and was given a same-day appointment for a cut, color, and eyebrow waxing. When I first entered the salon, I was happy to be greeted warmly by the two girls at the front desk, one of whom took my coat and was going to take me back to Sylvia for my eyebrow wax, but Sylvia was already at the front desk waiting for me when we turned around from the coat closet! She was so nice from the very beginning, and she escorted me back to her lovely, serene room, and she went right to work. Not only did she do an amazing job on my brows, but she noticed that I was slightly dehydrated and offered to put a treatment on my lips for me. She also gave me some great tips for keeping my skin healthy in the winter, and when I mentioned that I would love to come back to her for a facial, she gave me her card and a pass for 10% off should I decide to return. She was so sweet, and she really knows what she is doing! Sylvia escorted me to the color area where I met with Betty, who listened to me during the consultation and offered her opinions. She gave me to option of the regular color or their other ammonia-free line of coloring, which I chose (and loved!). The entire experience with Betty was a pleasure; I usually have a hard time keeping up conversation with a new stylist, but she was so easy to talk to, and she really made the experience great. I LOVE my new color and cut...Betty and I discussed the cut throughout the process, and we decided at the end to go with blunt bangs instead of side, and I am THRILLED with how it turned out! I've always struggled with finding a stylist who understands what I want as I stumble to find photos and to describe the look I'm going for, all the while trying to tell them what I didn't like about my past cuts & color. Not only is she very knowledgeable about her trade, she is sweet/kind. My hair is thick. I have a lot of it. AND it is super stubborn. She has been the MOST PATIENT stylist I've ever had. Every time I leave Salon Capri in Dedham, I am ecstatic. I feel like she has changed my views. I used to think my hair was impossible and the look I wanted was out of reach. First off, the design of the place looks like a factory-not warm and welcoming at all. Second the front desk staff was very unfriendly and someone came over and offered water to a man sitting in the waiting room but not to me and didn't thank me after I paid. 3rd, my hairdresser Mona was quite brisk, laughed at my gray hair and was basically not warm at all. I thought I really liked this place, but they quoted me at a price $70 lower than what they charged me the day of my appointment, didn't do the correct coloring I asked for, added on a $35 fee from something I never asked for, and then never blow dried my hair. I got a cut and color from the owner a few weeks ago and I am extremely disappointed and angry. The support staff was wonderful and the environment was relaxing but the actual cut and color were terrible. What's worse is that I paid $350! The owner feels I guess that his expertise warrants him charging that but the color looked like a beauty school student did it. I knew what the cost was ahead of time obviously and I should have complained while I was there but I didn't know how bad it was until a few shampoos later when the top of my head looked like it had a faint orange glow all down the line of my roots. With 3 small children, i was too disgusted to even hire another babysitter and go back. I've gone to all the high end salons on Newbury and I thought this place looked great and I liked the fact that I could park and do some foodshopping after. When I met with the owner, I explained that I liked the look of natural highlights rather than striped ones. He did foils then brushed the lightner directly onto my roots. I figured he knew what he was doing but as I mentioned earlier it looked horrible. I went to another colorist to get it fixed the following week and he noticed it right away, he called it hot lights? The cut I got was mediocre at best and the guy practically pulled me out of the chair when he used the round brush. I have long hair and he was so rough it was painful. By far one of the worst salons I've been to. Gossip and discrimination is spoken loudly throughout the salon by some of the "senior" stylists. The esthetician rooms are thin and you can literally hear every conversation from the employee break room. The bathrooms are dirty and never have proper tissue and paper towels. The receptionists are rude and seem to not know or like the job they come to everyday. You can see the lack of enthusiasm. It's also very disturbing to hear "TALK" of the owner having sexual relationships with his employees. To sum up my experience I would definitely spend my money elsewhere. read more

I came in for a full balayage and cut/blow dry. I showed many pictures and of a full blonde and mentioned that I wanted something where my root could grow in naturally. She took this a little too literally and did a few babylights, and my hair looked no different from when I came in - and I still paid for a full balayage ($$). My stylist also covered for someone and did a blow dry, while I sat with the heat done on my hair for a good 20 minutes. All the stylists were whispering and gossiping the whole time, which did not make for a relaxing or even pleasant environment what so ever. I've been getting in the habit of getting a wash and blow out once a week. I read some bad reviews about this place, but I decided I will experience it on my own and so I gave it a shot. Here is my dilemma: I have long thick hair, I know that a GOOD blow out on my hair will take about 45min. I had an app. At 545pm and was out at 608pm. That's a 23min blow out. Now you can just imagine how it turned out. 1. She did not section my hair, like you are suppose too. 2. She did not take her time with it. Normally you section the hair and you go over a piece of hair until is nice and straight and soft, but nope! She would go over it once, two if I was lucky! 3. It was mediocre. I could still feel parts of my hair damped. I saw her do my front bangs, and of course I expected for her to go over it multiple time, because I told her I wanted some volume as well. Nope, she went over it ONCE! And says she's done. My hair still looked freezy! I looked at her and told her that was fast. And she goes " that's what we do, fast and ready to go"...... not exactly what I want to pay for! They charged me $40. Which is average want I pay for my hair, but not for mediocre work! read more

I've been here a few times and each time has been disappointing. It is overpriced and you can't even leave the tip on your card. The blow dries are meh, curls didn't stay, and a haircut which I got from a master stylist was just ok. The service here is less than satisfactory. They are not too warm and fuzzy. No one offered water or tea and the place just seemed cold. A few of the workers are really nice though. I really wanted to like this place but it just didn't work. Maybe because I have paid the same prices for impeccable service and work in Boston so places in the suburbs who are going to charge just as much should be just as on point. I have been going to Salon Capri for a couple years and have had okay experiences for the most part, but last week was my last time there. When I made my appointment they made it for a color when I wanted a foil. So my hair stylist was annoyed when I got there and said "I guess I can stay late" and kept telling me what I was doing wasn't going to look good and trying to make excuses for her not doing a good job. My hair was long and I wanted it at my shoulders so to rush things along she took my hair in a clump when it was dry and just cut it all off way shorter than I wanted. After sitting around for an hour with color in my hair they gave me a conditioning treatment that I never asked for and was never told I'd have to pay $30 for. My hair stylist then cut my hair and it looks so bad I have to wear it up all the time. It's uneven and sloppy and my hair color is so much darker than I wanted. I wanted blonde and she dyed my hair dark brown (my natural color) and put a few measly strands of blonde highlights that didn't even show up. This all cost my $270 and 4 HOURS of my time- what a friggen rip off! Now I have to go get my hair done the RIGHT way somewhere else. I'll never be back. read more

The hair dresser explained to the front desk that she didn't give me a gloss and instead a semi-perm. Not once was this stated during my color. This was my first time getting a pravana treatment, mind you the treatment itself costs 200.00 then I was charged 35.00 for my hair to be dried come on I just spent 200.00 on a treatment that doesn't include a blow dry. I look forward to my visits because everyone that works there is both friendly and professional. Before Jill starts working on my hair she always asks what I am looking for and will have suggestions if I'm not sure. Look for another salon. Inconsistent at best - waste of money most of the time. The colorist (Paul) is fantastic and worth every dollar (also very prompt and concerned with your desires) but that is all I can say that is good about Salon Capri I originally was a customer at their Hyde Park salon for many years. Although I regularly had to wait a half hour or more beyond my appointment time before getting serviced, I stayed with them out of convenience. However, once the cost started getting to be so high and they kept adding additional services (gloss, oil treatments, etc.) that I didn't ask for or want, I found another salon. When that salon moved, I thought I would give Salon Capri in Dedham a try. Same old story, but now even worse. The first time back, I waited about a half hour before being shampooed and then 15 minutes until the stylist could take me (working on four customers at once). Not a bad cut but certainly not worth the $100 charged (took her less than 10 minutes) and for a junior stylist to blow dry. Out of convenience, I kept going back. Stupid me. Each time the service got worse. The master stylist (Gina) never asked what I wanted before she starting cutting, ignored my input when I did speak up, and spent more time talking to staff and taking care of administrative tasks than on my hair. And after spending less than 5-10 minutes with me, would turn me over to series of junior stylists for blow drying. The cost did not reflect this and for over $200 (including color) I would expect better. And the cuts were never that great. Look around for another salon, you can do much, much better. read more

Jill is simply amazing!! I am so glad I stumbled upon her as a first time client at the salon. She does an amazing job and is always super busy when I am there. Last night she was training a new girl and was doing a great job training her. I know good hearted people when i meet them and Jill is definitely one of those people. She does a great job with my haircut but I know she rocks women's hair cuts as well. The salon is always clean and people are always friendly. All I wanted was for him to follow the lines of my previous cut and take an inch off. This place is a disaster from the minute you walk in. If your lucky enough to get the person's attention at the front desk to check in...to the inexperienced staff, I saw Danielle and unless your one of those people that likes to pay for a haircut and color and walk out looking no different, than this is the stylist for you. She does not know how to cut hair, a trim at the very best. Color, same thing, could not notice any difference looked more like a root touch up. BUYER BEWARE! Stupid stupid me, I scheduled an appt here for my daughter's First Communion. I did specify that I wanted her hair braided. I never asked the price on the phone, which was so so stupid of me. I expected around $50. First off, I asked the stylist (who was very nice) to put her hair in loose waves and to braid her hair around the back. I showed her a picture of what I wanted. She immediately said that "Thank God that's a very simple braid because I don't know how to braid very well at all." Um, ok. First off, when I specified I wanted her hair braided on the phone, why did the receptionist book an appt with a stylist who cannot braid??? Second, you work at a supposedly cutting edge hair salon and you are unable to braid very well? Seriously???? OK, so her hair did look very pretty but the braiding around the back didn't look too much like the braid I had showed her in the picture. But since her hair did look pretty, I just let it go. Fast forward to check out. $85!!!! You're charging me $85 for some curling of her hair and a simple braid around the back??? She spent a total of 35 minutes with her. No wash, no blow dry. Just a curling iron and a braid which you can barely do. Shameful!!!!!!! I cant believe a salon would charge me $85 for an 8 year old's hair styling for her First Communion. And THEN I couldn't put the tip onto my debit card. So I had to go to the ATM next door and withdraw cash and pay a $3.50 fee since it wasn't my bank. NEVER NEVER NEVER AGAIN! This is hands down the absolute worst haircut I have ever received in my entire life. For the first time, I cried over this hair. Two days later I saw my best friend, and she sympathetically said my hair will grow back. It's that god awful. Just.. I don't understand what happened. My hair is chopped up and 10 different lengths, not in the cute way. In the back of my head, there is a 5 inch difference between the longest and shortest strand. Like I have this side bang that wraps around my ENTIRE head- it's just one length all around. It's decimated and chopped with no rhyme or reason. This isn't layers, I usually get light layers. I wanted Bella Hadid modern, not Reese Witherspoon from Sweet Home Alabama. Why do I have a SHAG cut. I feel so dated and ugly and now I have to go back to law school, where I will be hiding my hair until it grows back and I can see someone I trust. For now, I look like a wolverine. my hair type: short and punky. i didnt think this hair cut was going to be much of a problem. I have been to many places asking for the same exact cut and usually it takes about 10 minutes without the wash and dry. i trim the top a tiny bit and buzz off the sides and the back (what is now known as the miley cyrus hair cut). I walked into the salon and my wait time was only a few minutes which was awesome. then i met my hair dresses. we went over to get my hair washed. the chairs used in this salon are supposed to message your back. i got the broken one. i wouldn't be complaining but i paid 60 bucks and go the broken chair. that not very fair. if i was running a business id put caution tape around the broken shit so no one uses it cuz why should someone pay for something they aren't getting. well anyways hair was washed. now going back to my hair dressers chair. she asked what i wanted and i told her. buzz the sides and the back and leave the top. she did the complete opposite. i told her repeatedly i like it short. not scalp but near enough. she buzzed my neck and then that was it. i have never written a review before but people should know what they are getting into when they go to this specific hair dresser. i mean if you aren't listening to your customer then what are you doing? I have gotten many compliments on my hair since i have gotten the cut but i don't feel like myself. I am pissed off. i dropped 60 bucks on something i didn't even ask for. i get that it is a 'high end' salon. i was thinking about going to a supercuts but i wanted some style. i wanted a cut that i wanted but i still wanted the hair dressers little bit. like her or his signature or something. well, i basically got something i didnt want. i hate it and i want my hair to grow out right now so i can get it cut at a place that will listen to me. i do usually have a punky look but that doesnt mean i cant be a customer at a place that doesnt specialize in the punky look. it was a simple job that she messed up. i havent had any spa treatment at this salon. and im sure other hair dressers are great but i am taking my business somewhere else once my hair grows back. read more

I decided to try out this salon with high expectations. I have never in my life gotten a haircut this bad! My hair was a good 1.5" longer on one side. My stylist did not even part my hair before she started cutting. She just brushed it and began hacking away. I asked her to part my hair in the middle and she just continued with what she was doing. I also asked for her to add in some slight angles and she cut a large chunk off of each side. I paid 185$ for a cut and color and could have gone to super cuts and gotten a better cut. This was also my first time to this salon and instead of making me feel welcomed and making conversation, I just listened to my stylist gossip with another stylist the whole appointment. It was very unprofessional. Then when she was done she rushed me out so quickly that I barely got to take a look at my hair. Once I got home I took a better look and saw just how bad it was. I called the salon the next day to see if I could come in to have it fixed. They told me I either had to drive a half hour to the Newton salon or wait til Friday (one week) to get it fixed by the same stylist. The salon was not apologetic at all about the issue. The color did come out pretty good and I was happy with that, but the cut was so bad that it didn't even matter. I wish I could upload a picture to show just how uneven my hair is. It is horrible. Update: I went back in today and Anna Maria fixed the cut. She was even surprised at how bad of a job the other stylist did. I was hoping to find a good salon close to home that didn't mean I had to go into the city for a cut and blowdry...ummm...let me just say that I literally left this salon with a mullet...no joke. my mother went there and had the worst experience too, but I just assumed it was an isolated incident...they used shears and it took her 3 months and 2 corrective cuts to correct what had been done there. The manager/owner is rude too and apparently not too talented... I have spoken with two other people that have gone to this salon and no one that I have spoken with has had a good experience there. It's been a long time since I've been able to "wash and go," but with Jamie's cut, I no longer have to spend (any) time futzing with my hair.
